Having some touch issues. - Nvidia Tegra Note 7

Lately, when I power on my device, one of two things will happen.
Sometimes, I'll bootloop. 7 or 8 times. Sometimes it'll bootloop infinitely and I'll have to hold the power button.
Three out of four boots, my touchscreen won't work at all, for pen or touch. I know its not frozen, since the pen nav bar shortcuts appear and disappear normally.
I'm thinking it isn't, but is this hardware based? Or KitKat (which I very much dislike) based?

With every update we've had, my touchscreen has become better and more responsive, so unless something went awry during the update, I don't think KK is to blame. Do you use the slide cover? I know that when the screen wakes from the magnetic sensor while opening the cover, sometimes my touchscreen will be totally wonky until I do a quick sleep/wake with the power button. I don't use the cover any more for this reason (along with the floppy nature of the hinge that makes the thing a pain to hold with the cover on).

No cover or accessories, just stock KitKat, your usual social apps (minus facebook), and a bunch of games. I'm considering, much to my depression, returning it for a shield. RR3 lagged today on balanced, and so did monster hunter freedom unite and survival craft (96 block render)

Screen responding without touching it

Does anyone else have their screen respond without touching it?
I've noticed this in go sms. On the conversation list, the last one on the screen is sometimes pressed without me touching it. I will press back and it just goes back into it.
I recently noticed in web browsing too where the screen would refresh on its own. I clued in that the refresh button is on the bottom of the screen.
Seems like the bottom maybe 2 cm of the screen sometimes responds on its own.
Is there any app that I can see where the screen is being pressed?
Settings, Developer options, Show Touches
That will visually show you where any screen touches are occurring. The screen is a bit sensitive for me sometimes, but I haven't seen anything crazy yet.

I wish you could extend the amount of times those dots stay on the screen for.
Yeah it's unfortunately a little basic. Maybe something on the play store that could do the same thing but also have some customization?

Same here. Sometimes it happens to me. I would say one of 50 touches it'll react even without me pressing finger on a scren.
I definitely know what you're referring to, and it does seem to happen only on the bottom of the screen. Sometimes I'll trigger the screen if my finger is close but not touching it.

The thing that bothered me today is that i was trying to press a button in the top left corner and the bottom link kept being pressed so I have to hit back and I was trying to beat the bottom press but I couldnt lol
I dont think there was any moisture on that part of the screen either
Yep, but not on this phone yet...
I say not yet because it's happened to me on almost every one of my touch screen phones. It seems to happen to me when the air is dry and I bet it has to do with there being more static electricity around. On those days when you're shocking everything you touch, those are the days when my phones seem to act up. It happened on my G1, my vibrant, Droid1, Droidx, and two of my bionics. All of the problems went away although on my 1st bionic it was really bad and almost completely unusable. The next day it was back to normal. Maybe it's just gremlins.
answer:
it happens if/when you use a DIFFERENT charger for the phone. you should be using the charger that comes with the phone. If you use a different charger (from a G1 or from a razr or something), then the screen tends to mess up, even when off the charger.

So just had this happed today with the "show touches" on and I did not see any touches.
I am wondering if this is a manufacturer defect now

Is yours also happening towards the bottom of the screen?
For those of you with this problem, try pulling the battery out for a minute or two and also try touching something metal if you can. You know to discharge any static built up. (Worth a shot right) When I had this problem on my Sensation everyone was reporting that it was the charger they were using. I don't know if that was correct because the problem went away even though I was still using two different chargers. One charger was for the GNEX (same as GS3) and the other was the HTC charger. I really think it has to do with static electricity build up. If you think about the way these digitizers work it really makes sense. It seems to happen to me during spring time when it's dry and windy.

That is a good theory, but why would the static shock only be hitting the bottom part of the screen?
i don't know why. but i'm sure it's the charger. this happened back in the G1 days when android first came out. i did so many "experiments" with different chargers to figure out what was causing the screen to be all glitched like this. found out it was the charger. same thing happened with my vibrant, and same thing happened with my sisters sgs2.

Poor Capacitive Digitizer

I'm loving my Note, but just found a small issue. It's not enough to return it, but it's there. When, say drawing with your finger, or using Swype, the lines can turn out rather jagged if you move your finger slowly. I've attached a picture showing this. I alternate between drawing slowly and quickly.
I've noticed this on other devices, such as the Nook Color, but wouldn't expect this out of a high-end device. Has anyone else noticed this?
Sent from my GT-N8013 using xda app-developers app
Could the jaggedness be caused by finger shake?
Maybe partially, but here's my test on my phone. Its a Samsung Mesmerize: part of the original Galaxy S series
Sent from my SCH-I500 using xda app-developers app
That image isn't working for some reason, lemme try again:
Sent from my GT-N8013 using xda app-developers app
Also, don't forget that there's the object tool in S-Note. It'll straighten any lines you draw.
I've also noticed that with my finger, it only happens some of the time. This issue also makes scrolling a tiny bit jittery. All is smooth with the pen.
I'm wondering if it's just a slight defect that's specific to my Note...

A couple questions:
Is battery saver on?
Is this only happening when you are plugged in?
If nor, Is this phenomenon happening more pronounced when plugged in?
Is this happening inside the xda app?
Anywhere else?
My xda app on the tablet sucks. Its the one app i have that constantly crashes (other than crackle), randomly.
i haven't witnesssed this phenomenon OUTSIDE of the xda app - i have noticed a weird lagginess, almost as if the text was on a weighted spinning wheel, and when you spin it, it slows down almost as if gravity is pulling it down due to the weight.
some of the GS2's (especially sprint variety) had an issue where if it was plugged in, the touchscreen did not respond very well and TouchWiz went 4x as slow. it sometimes till happens if i use the wrong wall outlet. again, i haven't seen this happened while plugged in (the cord is too short for me) but try doing this without it plugged in.
i haven't had any problems with the Wacom digitalizer. i mean, it's top of the line, right? i haven't really used my finger to draw a straight line (i thought that's why we had a pen) but when i did, i drew it mostly straight until i drew slow. then my own FINGER was moving the line up and down and it became squiqqly. i doubt it has to do with the wacom digitzer, but perhaps you have a bad one. i haven't had the problems you've reported, and i can assure you i have been putting this tablet through the grinder TRYING to find things wrong with it. Blame Asus for what they did to me with the Prime and Infinity but all I can complain about is losing 14 pages of Snotes after the update and the squeekiness on the right side of my tablet. As i'm using this with BT keyboard and BT mouse now with no drop in speed, i'll take the squeekiness anyday.
I'll keep searching for this digitizer issue. originally i had some sort of digitizer issue but i haven't had it since the update. it was suggested to me to do a hard reset but i didn't go that route. i also find this fascinating that it's unlike the old Windows Phone 98/5/5.1/6 editions that had you touch your stylus to a certain part of the screen once hard reset to calibrate the screen.

Power Save mode was off. It becomes more pronounced while plugged in, and sometimes it'll stop tracking my finger while charging. It happens
in most, if not all apps I've used.
In CM10, the problem isn't quite as bad, but that could be due to Project Butter and how smooth everything is. It is still there, however.
I'm really hoping its an isolated issue, because besides this, this tablet is excellent(and this issue doesn't *totally* degrade the experience)

There's a good chance I'll exchange this for the 32gb (Best Buy didn't have it at the time), so I'll post back here if I do. Or maybe its just a driver/kernel issue that can be resolved in an update! Let's hope for that

Criticisms about HTC's choice in buttons

So I got the HTC One today and I have to say the build quality is out of this world. But I have a few gripes about it and I was wondering if anyone had the same opinions. First the feedback from the softkeys is really weak. I barely feel the vibration when I hit the key. This is especially an issue when I have to double tap the home key for the multitasking screen. I'm also getting incredibly irritated with the location of the power key. It literally could not be further for me to reach when I'm using the phone. I came from an S3 where the power button was on the side and feedback from the soft keys is always a good intensity. Maybe I'm being too critical but I'm wondering if anyone else is getting bothered by these issues.

I too am not the biggest fan of the power button being at the top. I have my screens set up to be used one handed, but the power button ruins it
I switched to Revolution HD ROM, which has a feature to use the volume up/down keys to wake the phone up, but I am slightly concerned about performance. I might be wrong, but I think the stock ROM was smoother (especially when opening and closing the apps draw). I will compare it with a friend's phone today.
I feel so sad for this
OK, had a look at the stock rom and the same lag is there. Will stick with Revolution HD Rom.
Either they fix this or I don't feel them unresponsive. They are working good enough for me.

The power button is at the top so that the you can point the phone straight forward when using the IR blaster. Not sure why everyone is overlooking this. As for the buttons, I don't see a problem with them. The lack of a menu key annoyed me but I re-enabled the long press back for menu and it's been fine.
We could have one more button yes. But there are phones with power button on the left so that's not a "mistake"

I was about to say the same thing...it would have been great to have the power button on the side about two-thirds up (Samsung Galaxy style) and the IR blaster on the top. It would have also been cool if they had put a second wide-angle IR blaster on the back of the phone (for example somewhere near the camera lens). The gyroscope could determine which IR port would be active...when the phone is horizontal, it would use the IR port on top, and when the phone is upright and in the normal viewing position it would switch to the IR port on the back. This would permit you to hold your phone in a normal manner and push the remote app buttons without having to swing your phone horizontally and point it at your equipment like a traditional remote control, which is kind of silly when you think about it.

Exactly. Everyone needs to stop complaining about where the power button is, pick up ya damn phone and turn it on and then everything you need is well within reach.
For me personally I don't care I like the button where it is, I usually leave my phone on a flat surface and when I pick it up or turn it on my index finger is already in the general area. NBD.

Nexus 7 Erratic Touchscreen - Android 4.4

Anyone had issues with random touches still after 4.4 update? Plug your tablet via USB to either your computer or an outlet and do some typing. Does the problem go away? I saw someone mention on the forum a while ago about a possible grounding issue, something to do with hardware. Mine does go away. I have zero issues typing when my tablet is plugged in.
Same issue. I guess it is related to kit kat. I am running omnirom, and the reason I flashed it was because my nexus 7 starting spazzing out on me. I thought flashing a rom would fix it, but it did not. What I do it enable show touches in developer options to see where the screen is touching. Then I swipe the entire screen row after row especially the point(s) where it detects the touches that you did not make. Just touch every area of the screen, and it went away, for a little bit at least.
Mine touch problem worsened after kitkat. Not recognising touch At all while lying on the table, to ghost touches to, missing touch it's having all. Though I still love my nexus but it has made the experience bitter sweet

Happens on my Nexus 7 2013 with stock 4.3.
I tested my screen when I first got it with no problems, after updating to 4.4.2. There was one time where it wouldn't register any taps, but problem was fixed after reboot.
My Nexus is still wrapped in its original plastic cover. I have used it very little, and have not noticed any screen mis-clicks or whatever. Are there any guaranteed steps to reproduce the problem ?

just using it, download a multi touch testing problem and place 2 fingers (imagining a grid) one on top of the other or horizontally, if it doesn't happen quickly, give it a few minutes without shutting off the screen and try again...
I sent mine for warranty and ASUS lost it... so I'm just gonna get my money back, dealing with them with the BBB
Mine actually improved drastically with kit Kat. I now get nearly flawless touchscreen response. The one or two times it has happened since, simply locking and unlocking the device resolves the issue.

Have downloaded a multutouch application and have tried it until I got bored. It seems that it detected correctly where my fingertips where, one, two or three at the same time and moving all the time.
I had it disconnected from the USB and laying on the couch, seemed to work OK.
Maybe it is the plastic wrapper making it all work OK?
I had zero touch issues when I first got mine (did 10mins of multi-touch testing with app), after the recent 4.4.2 update, I was getting erratic/missed touches. Multi-touch app confirmed the same, 8 fingers on the screen, it jumped from 8 all the way down to 2 touch readings. A little digging around and I found this thread:

Anyone Else hate the button placement?

I just got my Note last week, and I never realized how often I hold the tablet right in the middle. The buttons are constantly in the way or getting pressed. When I tried to switch holding it on the sides the bezels are so thin that my palm keeps touching the screen. I originally loved the slim bezels, but not so much anymore. Anyways I've started using my tablet upside down now, and it seems to have fixed my problem.
Anyone else experienced this?
Coming from a HP Touchpad, I've come accustomed to on-screen buttons and a single home button. I would love a rom control/mod to turn off the backlight buttons. I have the on-screen navigation bar in the cleanrom and love it. Especially for when using the tablet in portrait mode.
I feel your pains. Button placement is bad. I'm annoyed by the backwards volume buttons the most. Especially when shooting for recovery.

I noticed this problem from day 1. I bought this tablet because of the Spen. I can fill out invoices and make notes. I can then hand the tablet to the customer for their signature. But every time they started signing their name they would press one of the buttons. So now I always hand them the tablet up side down. Works great this way.
So far its not been a problem for me at all but I have to admit i very rarely hold my tablet as its always propped up or on my lap.

The palm rejection from the app I use is good for that. Its not input from the screen that is the problem. Its accidentally pressing the home, back or menu button.
Easy fix for that ..Root it..get Lmt Launcher along with Gmd gesture controls and unlock the beauty of this tablet!!!

I read up on that app and it does not block the soft buttons or home button.

Never mind it does disable capacitive buttons but that's not a good enough reason for me to root. Its working fine the way it is.
Yep, I hate it too!
