sensor co-processor - Xperia Z2 General

Several of the latest Xperia devices, including Xperia Z2, feature a self-contained sensor co-processor. This sensor co-processor makes it possible to continuously collect data in the background, without using the main application processor. This will enable up to ten times lower power consumption when using always-on features in sensors, compared to a system without a sensor co-processor.

Looks like a good improvement

Good find! But the article says even the Z1 had it.

It's even easier than that.
Why does this even matter, It is absolutely pointless.
If you want android get an android phone, if you want ios get an iphone.
You might want to add the battery capacity of both devices?!

it shouldn't be a question...
everything in xperia Z blows up ip5
and the price will be lower too :\
You should've asked yourself, what you need and what you dont. if it was me, of course I prefer Z all the way. Taste-wise.
Why do you people even bother to make threads like this?
I think everyone knows about the 'compare' feature on gsmarena.com . If not, google it.
And I do believe (now for the 99999^999^999 time) that this has been discussed before;
You choose your phone based on what you're used to and what you want.
You choose a phone based on how it looks to you. You only, you don't go asking about for your own opinion!
And, last, but most important; You choose a phone based on fluidity and how it works out for you...
I didn't choose my phone because 'it's great, a flagship' and all that duck... I got it because I said 'I need a new phone' so I went to the shop, saw what they had, tried those phones out and bought my nozomi! If a HOX or GS3 would have the same features as the nozomi, I'd buy another phone!
Z design is the best, and specs is enough for 2013 - i think, i'll buy it, not IP5 or S4 or. ....
how about bluetooth transferring, wifi direct, usb otg???

I would add to the iPhone better optimization , better calibrated screen and better gaming thanks to the great gpu and lower resolution screen and maybe even better speakers and integrated earphones, to the Sony I would add the exmor rs camera and its f1.8.

Why iphone 5? No one here cares about it. Besides, the Xperia Z is the iphone 5s/6 competitor. The Xperia T is the iphone 5 competitor and even the Xperia T wins so no point comparing the iphone 5 with the Z.
Xperia Z is pretty much the first contestant of 2013 flagships. It doesn't have a sparring partner yet and having it beat up on the iphone 5 is not thread worthy. Maybe have it beat up on the Droid DNA instead or wait for the HTC M7 or Optimus G pro to start the versus threads.

Sony Xperia Z4, Z4 Tablet, Z4 Compact, Z4 Ultra: Exclusive Leak

So the Z4 Compact phone is going to remain 4.6" display, but being bumped to 1920 x 1080 HD. That is awesome. The 10" tablet specs sound amazing, unfortunately, I prefer the 8" tablet size.

a 1080p resolution on a 4.6 display is a total waste. After ~320ppi anything else will just consume more power with no visual benefit.

I totally agree. I think the current 720p screen is beautiful, and if it means subtracting from the awesome battery life (unless battery specs change in Z4C), then it is a total waste. I think they are doing it for the higher pixel density crowd. It is the only negative potential buyers see on the phone because of the new push for higher resolution. I was even turned off initially thinking it was just another watered down compact phone, until I read the reviews in detail of how awesome the display is and all the other specs.
Ahh to get a Z3C or to wait.
I'm more interested in the new sensor for the camera
So im assuming the 801 to 810 is a huge jump.
Wonder what the battery life will be like too.
Im all for increased battery life
It doesn't sound like a dead cert the the Z4 will be coming out in compact form. Sony does usually skip a model with the compact versions.
But the changes rumored for the regular Z4 will be awesome -- Qi charging, exposed micro USB port, no more dedicated magnetic charging port (which will make cases much simpler). That is basically my list of what could be improved on the Z3. Now if only Sony would tell us it will have Gorilla Glass on both sides
So I bought a brand new device day one a month ago and now the successor is announced it's a strange world we're living in....

That's only true if you have average eyesight and you are at least 12" away from the screen. I use my phone and can readily distinguish pixels on my z1c (and its slightly-denser-than-z3c 720p screen) in a variety of situations. There are further issues for rendering most eastern languages, where they can take advantage of >500ppi screens quite easily.
Yes, there are tradeoffs involved, including potentially less battery life, but to say there is "no visual benefit" is simply ignorant. I will welcome the sharper screen, and I know I am not the only one.

I have better-than-average eyesight (about 20-15), and I can barely distinguish individual pixels on my Z3C, and only when holding it too close to my face to actually use. I would consider anything over 300 PPI good enough, and anything over 350 PPI perfect.
The Z4C being 1080p might be a disappointment if it results in a loss of battery life, but maybe they'll improve their battery tech enough to make up for it. In any case, wireless charging will be very nice to have.

I keep hearing that but do you have a source?
Personally the upgrades I want to see in the upcoming Z4C/Z5C are:
Wireless charging/ waterproof usb port
Better camera/curved lens/OIS
Atleast 32GB base storage + sd
Better front facing speakers
MORE battery life
I'm fine with 720p at 4.6 but 1080p would be nice if the battery is increased and the hardware is improved to match (Although imagine an 810 with a 720p screen  )
3GB+ RAM SD 810 or better, yada yada

Don't have the link at hand but the same website said last month that's what their source revealed to them.
Well they could always do what AMD and nVidia do.... rebadge old products.... Then Z3 becomes Z4 compact .

There are many things to improve (constrast, brightness etc) in a screen and let's hope they focus on these.
Anyway stuff that i want to see in the upcoming Z4C:
-Same footprint device with 4.6-4.8'' screen @ 720p resolution
-S805,3GB ram 32GB storage+SD
-Better camera and if possible OIS
-2800mah battery
-IR Blaster
-Dual sim
-Single covered port for sim/sd card and water resistant USB port so we can find a decent case
-Matte back as in Z3 tablet compact
-And of course Lollipop out of the box

I would buy this phone in a heartbeat.
EYeah ! Lag will be impossible with that Chipset and
720 but I think they will go higher res anyway.
I do not care if the phone is 10mm thick I want at least a
3000 mah battery.
This Z4 if ruggedly built may be a 2 year type phone , so
wonderfully overspecced.
Hope it's rugged Device and fully engineered Camera this time with digital and OIS.
I will pay tops for this, then I won't wish for a Note 4 Compact / Alpha type thing....
Love to see a full 810 in a Compact !
More wattage than HTC Speakers and maybe Kevlar Drivers like tiny studio monitors -already waterproof.
I'm not sure such wish lists of components and features will ever actually fit in such a small phone. But we can dream
Actually I think this can be produced given the fact that since 2 years the motherboard is smaller and smaller

Z5P v/s XZP

its a tough one!
XZP v/s Z5P , (too soon to compare) but what i have read and compare from atricles
XZP has 19mp / 13mp cameras where z5p has 23mp / 5mp
XZP dsds but standby second sim, meaning it has combo tray. you decide now you want sdcard OR second sim ???
Z5P comes with dedicated sdcard Slot
XZP -->Octa-core (4x2.45 GHz Kryo & 4x1.9 GHz Kryo) where Z5POcta-core (4x1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 & 4x2.0 GHz Cortex-A57) so the second set of cores are faster by .1ghz in z5p and first set of cors are faster by 1ghz in XZP
XZP records videos on higher frame rates in HDR , Z5p recordes on regular frame rates
screen sizes are 5.5 for both
Xzp has 4gb ram (wow), z5p has 3gb
Xzp has 4g+ technology and four receptors to comminate with network better. Z5p is equiped with regular 4g technology
Z5p is heavy, its a task to hold this phablet phone! where xzp is relatively heaver than z5p
now the very strange thing!
z5p has relatively BIGGER batter 3430MAH
XZP is 3230mAH,,,,
i am thinking i should buy both as they say...

Are you sure about this? I never had a DSDS model, but would guess, it's the same for Z5P.
Not to forget: XZP has Bluetooth 5.0 as well as USB-C with USB 3.1 AND UFS-memory (internal)!
A newer bluetooth-chip can't do harm and USB-C is nice for it's reversible plug. UFS should give us some advantage in combination with USB 3.1 regarding transfer rates.
I, for my part, am definitely switching, when it'll be available.

Also XZP has Snapdragon 835 vs the Z5P 810, significantly better processor overall and should be significantly cooler/power friendly.
XZP screen is also 10-bit HDR, and I love the new design look.
My biggest with that probably won't happen is if Sony gets it certified by T-Mobile for VoLTE and maybe even VoWifi in the US, and fixes the bug in Xperia Roms where Google messenger can't send group MMS. Probably not happening though, but I'm definitely upgrading to it once my Z5P dies (already on the way there, I only have estimated 2900mAH left as max battery charge).
yeah, its a good upgrade. but i think i'll pass this one. will get new phone if miles ahead of comparison from my Z5P.

thank you for making decision easier for me! i am so tempted to buy this one where my z5p is almost untouched and i have taken extreme care of z5p by accquiring extra protectors and bumpy leather book covers. i even bought secondary phone for gym time avoid risking z5p getting dropped or screen getting crushed in pocket while i am pumping iron!
this is XZP
i am sure sony will have something XZ2P or XZ3P in future having 5G , 6gb ram, 128gb advance hardware of snapdragon processors and asu said miles ahead of comparision from my z5p
Its a good upgrade. Hopefully the camera isnt as **** as it is on the ZP
The main point here is this:
Will 4K content be fully supported ????
In Z5P 4K is only supported in very specific Sony apps, not supported for example in Youtube.
I'm afraid that this will not change with XZP, again only specific apps will be supported.

Part of my fears, too. What gives me hope is the fact, that sony announced that amazon prime video will take advantage of the 4k and HDR! I don't think (and hope!), they won't make an extra app for sony. IIRC, netflix CEO gave some hints, pointing out something similar, too...

Doesn't brightness affect battery life more than resolution? For example, what would use more battery; 1080p at max brightness or 4K but with adaptive on?
Anyway, Sony don't have my interest with the XZP. An XZP Ultra on the other hand...

they both contributes with combination
low brightness no 4k < low brightness + 4k < High brightness no4k < High brightness+4k
however Z5p's defualt max brightness was always kept less than its predecessor to protect heatup issues
as device heats up! the brightness automatically goes down (even if you have kept adaptive brightness off)

Giving you the option would be the best. At the moment there is simply no option and because of that you can even see 4k youtube, not even 2k.

Moto G5 Plus vs Xperia XA1 fight

Hi. I'm on the hunt for my a new phone to replace my ageing Galaxy S5 Neo. I chose these two phones as they are within my budget and on the same price range.
Read that the Snapdragon 625 is slightly worse than the Helio P20 in terms of battery life and performance?
The speakers on the G5 Plus seem large but is sufficient enough on a London bus or a partly crowded high street than the XA1?
Is it true the G5 Plus' camera is similar to that of the Galaxy S7? Photo sample I have seen so far suggest a bland/low contrasty photo (Auto mode) and no video stabilisation?
And would you guys (still) think Sony is better in terms of pushing updates especially monthly security updates, bug fixes, etc.? Lenovo has been remise and negligent in updating the Moto lineup since acquisition. True?
Would the G5 Plus struggle with location apps such as Google Maps or City Mapper coz it has no compass or magnetometer?
"Splash resistant" body meaning is the phone safe when exposed to light rain or a drop of a glass of water?
Would love to hear your thoughts & advice please.
Short answer: I'd ask you to go with the Moto G5+ instead of the XA1.
Elaborate answer based on your queries:
1. SD 625 is the best processor currently available in the market with an excellent balance between battery and performance. I'm a daily user of G5+, i use it for Whatsapp, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat, Music, Gaming daily and not one day has passed when i had to charge it twice. Average SOT ranges between 6 and 7 hours, never below it. No stutters in day to day tasks, heats up only while charging, coming from SD801, this is a very surprising SoC, it performs as well in gaming, better in heat management and battery, and as good in performance if not better.
2. Don't know about XA1's speakers, but the speakers on G5+ are a bit disappointment. They are not loud enough for me, coming from a OnePlus One, however their front placement is a plus though don't expect to hear it in a very crowded setting.
3. Camera doesn't compare to S7 in ANY respect. If you expect this to perform as well as S7 please don't get this phone. It's nowhere near to it. However for the price, i don't think you'll find a better camera. It's great for social media needs, very good for good lighting conditions, average for low lighting. Video has EIS, so they are less shaky however lack of OIS hurts.
4. Regarding updates, Sony pushes out fast updates to its flagships, not that fast to midrangers. Moto on the other hand pushes out major updates fairly quickly though not as fast as they used to be, they are still comparable to other brands. Yes, Lenovo acquisition has made the software scene worse, but i guess it still is better than Sony's.
5. Regarding navigation, its top notch and lack of compass hurts only if you have no data or network signal. Otherwise it performs as well as any other phone, if you have decent data connection.
6. Yes, splash resistant means slight water exposure is fine. Just don't take it swimming with you.
Hope this helped
Many thanks the reply. But I would like to make some statements too.
According to http://www.specout.com/ the SD625 (of the G5 Plus) has a lower performing CPU than the XA1's Helio P20; the fact that the latter is newer and built on a newer 18nm process makes it better for battery life and a balanced performance. Agree or not?
You mentioned no stutters but you did not mentioned that with "only" 3GB of RAM (the only option here in the UK) the apps would load instantly using the multitasking pane? (Videos I have seen suggests apps in the background load up slowly. I could be wrong)
Re the speakers would you say they are better if not the same as last year's model?
Re the camera 9 out of 10 the video review I've seen so far makes the photos (& videos) looks dull, bland & lacking colour/contrast. Average low light doesn't sound encouraging to me. I don't know if it is because how the video was uploaded onto YT but so far it paints a not-so rosy picture. And you also mentioned the camera has EIS but only at 1080p at 30fps? True?
Is the storage based off eMMC or UFS standard?
I made a quick survey on Twitter and all who voted said Sony is faster in updates. But would you say Moto is still faster overall? Having no monthly security updates doesn't sound fast to me. And sometimes updates can be slightly faster in one region, slower in others. So, what is it really?
I still think having a compass would make a difference albeit incremental when using location services such as Google Maps, Weather or City Mapper or looking for an ATM or restaurant in a foreign city. A good network reception is not a guarantee (even here in London though most of the times it is very good) and having that extra piece of hardware will be a big bonus.
Re the nano coating if say i accidentally spill a glass of water or soda or dropped it into the sink for a few seconds or using my phone calling someone whilst it is raining would you say my phone won't get water damaged? (I always believe this nano coating is a half-hearted / money saving exercise as ports such the mic, USB charging port, headphone jack, speakers are prone to water. And when the water indicators have shown it Moto won't replace your device. That's how i see it.
From what I'm reading, you want the Xperia.
Go for it.
Sony is good with updates while Moto has been lazy lately. If you are concerned about updates and security, then Sony would be better but all depends on your requirements

Both phones suit my requirements in one way or the other. But as a "precaution" it would be nice if a phone has a compass or magnetometer (which the G5 Plus doesn't have) , Cat-6 4G LTE (which both the XA1 and G5 Plus have) and nano coating for protection against minor water spills (which G5 Plus offers).
The XA1 is considered a mid-range phone which I heard Sony is quite slow in updating (apart from their higher mid-range or flagship models) whilst the Moto G5 Plus is also a mid-range phone but Lenovo has been slow to update lately.
So....which one?
Hi OP, which one did you get buying? I'm facing the same dilemma..

I have not bought either phone. I am selling my Xperia XZ and trying to determine which one phone will meet my needs.

I am also facing the same issue. But i am favouring the G5 plus.
Go for the xa1 plus instead. Humongous battery, fingerprint sensor, louder speakers, fantastic camera, slightly lower performance than flagships. Only drwaback is it's plastic though but still it's a 10 out of 10 appreance wise

Xperia Z is such a legend

As I'm owning an Xperia Z5, since a year and a half, I still find that the Z was the most popular and really well supported device, so many ROMs, kernels, mods, themes and just everything, even Sony supported it for a long period of time, but the biggest part was the people who spent hours to make the best for it, it's such a legend, made by Sony, and the people continued to make it better.
It's a bit sad that I am pretty disappointed with my Z5, it didn't make me happy like the Z, and from the development side? It's nothing compared to what the Z has gotten..
Thanks for reading and have a great day!

I know, and I still using it for daily.
May I know details of every things that make you disappointed on your Z5? Because I have a plan to upgrade my device, either Z5c or the latest XZ1c.

The Z5 lacks a lot of development and support, if you don't care about that then it's not the only issue, the Snapdragon 810 literally sucks! A lot of heat (running at over 50°C all the time) and terrible performance for an octa core CPU, Especially in games, even some cheap Chinese phones performance better, however it's an improvement over the Z, just not that much of an improvement as I expected.
It's not the phone's fault, just the Snapdragon 810 chip, and it's not the only one.
However I highly recommend avoiding any device with a Snapdragon 810 CPU because of the heat, bad performance and battery draining (I barely get 3 hours of screen on time), and I also recommend getting the Xperia XZ Premium, it has a 4K screen and a bigger battery unlike the XZ1 line.
More about the Z5:
Screen: meh, it has a blueish tint that makes the whites aren't so white, the TFT screen on the Z was better except outdoors.
Camera: good but not great, especially indoors, pretty noisy, 4K recording isn't so wow and the 120fps slow motion is too dark and low quality IMO, But it does pretty well in good lighting conditions.
Speakers: not so good, but I was able to get them louder after installing a mod.
Software: the Android 7.1.1 is the last update that the device will probably get, the nougat was a failure on the Z5 and XZ though, so I'm still using marshmallow.
So it's a fine device at the end but if you can go for newer devices like the XZ Premium then you better do!

I know about SD810 heating problem. It sucks, but till now, only Z5 family available in my country (so sad). XZ premium was great but I don't like a phone that has screen more than 5 inch. That's why I'm looking for XZ1c. 4K screen is not a big deal for me.
Thanks for sharing.

I don't think the XZ1c would disappoint you either, it has nearly the same hardware as the XZP except for the screen and battery, and also, wait for them to come to your country, don't be in hurry.
