[SOLUTION] How to fix 4.4 camera (for non-root users) - Xperia Z1 General

Hi everyone,
After few days of playing with the 4.4 firmware, I found out that the camera takes very long time to boot, and sometimes it says "Camera not available". But fear not, here's the solution for it, don't need to root your phone or switch back to 4.3 Jellybean.
1. Go to Settings > Apps > All.
2. Look for Camera, Camera common and Camera extension
3. Force stop and clear all the data.
That's it! You're good to go. I hope this helps a lot of people

No idea, I updated with PC Companion and I got the camera bug, but after doing the steps I posted above it's fixed. I agree with the pictures quality improvement on KitKat.

Then I don't know how to fix already. It works on mine tho. Maybe it's because of firmware update instead of clean install? Maybe clean install don't have the bugs lol.

Still no camera for me neither... Tried PCC, also tried complete wipe including boot and internal sdcard. No luck...

My camera works, but the start up time is too long, also focusing is not as fast as it used to be. I updated via pcc but in reality such problems are unacceptable for sony, with things not working for some, and working for others after updates.

Funny thing is I had the camera bug and after clearing data and etc it was Ok but I start getting the sound bug right after that weird...now I went back to 4.3 til the next update

My problem is that the phone overheats too frequently after taking a couple of pics in the day. I never had this issue before the update. Pissed off. For the first time ever, I'm considering downgrading.

Ah, yet another pointless reply from eclyptos

I think i dont have the Bug becouse i wiped everything SD Card, Data, System and Cache/Dalvik Cache and i didnt restore a Backup i installed everything manually again on 4.4 so i guess thats why i dont have any bug at all. I saw someone writing about false Structure on SD Card and if you restore Backups, so this might be the tricky Part where Users get the bugs from.

True. This is how have to be done.

some issues, not so major ones though
white balance is messed up, getting a strange white light from nowhere on right side of image when in landscape.
Also, AR effect was hanging up when I clicked a photo before saving it. After the steps in this thread, that one issue is gone, but the main camera is too messed up. 4.2 was better.
till now I was against putting custom roms in my z1, but now, if a rom includes the z2 camera app in a stable config, then I am going for it.

I used the repair option, so far the camera opens normally now and no lag yet. I really don't want to reset my phone each time a new firmware comes out.

Camera and CM9

Hello, I have been following the development of CM9 for a while now. Almost all roms can not get the camera working. I read there is a change in the framework and that is why it is now hard for older phones. But what has changed to stop the camera? Is the camera a hard device to get drivers for? Any clarity would be amazing just so I can understand the issue. Many thanks
It's only a matter of time I think before they get it sorted.
I just tried my first ICS based rom yesterday on my SGS2 and it is almost perfect, really good.
Camera works, but no video function (for me anyway!)
Exciting times.
I agree with thomss79. "Only a matter of time". Also the drivers are important. Looking through the threads on here, some drivers, and or source code, has been released for the Atrix from Nvidia and Moto. Not sure if that will help ICS, camera (and kernel) tho. Anyway, the devs on here should sort it out before too long. Thought i would be stuck on Froyo ( 2.2.2 ) forever. Unlocked and tried nearly all roms now, including early ICS
I heard drivers were an issue for CM9. I'll wait A LOT before installing ICS anyway, CM7 took a long time to get to this (awesome) point, and I will NOT switch to a less functional ROM just because it looks prettier. I'm extremely happy with CM7 for the time being.
I understand that the camera is not working on CM9 build....and that's ok for now but is there a reason why my gallery is not working?
I can't seem to view mms messages or downloaded pics

Try using quickpic.
When i was on my captivate camera (video and image) worked great on CM9.
Sucks that i'm using a nokia dumbphone atm.
They've had their hands full.. in due time we will have a 100% functioning rom.

thanks for the tip. quickpic works great. have access to my pics
Regarding why, as far as I know it's due to camera API changes in ICS. This causes troubles for the way cameras work earlier, and requires new driver. Again I'm not completely sure, this is just something I picked up in other threads. On a side note, the camera is mostly working in turl's new builds (and jokersax's) over at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445052 as I'm sure you're aware . Hope that clears some confusion!
Issues when downgrading
Though I was just fiddling around with CM9 and Ice cream sandwich, when I downgraded back to 2.3.4(stock), the camera app refused to work. Camera app just crashes. Is there any permanent change that CM9 does to the device interface that may be causing this.
Thanks
Shouldn't be anything permanent. How did you revert to stock?

You really just dont know what you're missing. The camera DOES work...to everyone saying it doesnt...well, thats just not 100% true. There are significant problems, some lag and delays, but it IS functional.
Using a camera app usually cures all the problems tho.

I'd suggest formatting /system and then do a regular data wipe then reinstall and see if that works.

I flash the stock rom using fastboot, i.e. fastboot flash system system.img, so I'm assuming that would format the /system directory. Im still a noob at this so any advice would be much appreciated. Also, the camera does not work in the new cm9 beta, so I am assuming there is some sort of firmware issue with the camera.
Thanks
I would definitely try reflashing, cause the camera is working for me on Jokersax's latest build.
front camera
Also, the front camera works when I use camera 360, so it seems to be a device driver/ firmware issue. Anyone else having similar problems?

[Q] Blurry pictures in stock and downloaded camera apps, both in stock and custom rom

Hi there,
I recently bought an used milestone 2. I discoverd that the camera is taking blurry pictures. It seems like that the auto focus is waaay out of focus. I read blogs and solutions for a while now before posting this tread, but without succes. When I bought the phone there was miui installed on it. I figured out that it could be an bug, so I flashed to the stock rom, however, the camera still takes blurry pictures. I have tried almost every possible settings in the camera, downloaded various camera apps, flashed it to the stock rom, but the camera still takes blurry pictures.
Anyone any idea how to fix this ? I have gone through the forum, without any success.
Has anyone got any idea?

If you got stock firmware and did a full wipe data/cache with factory reset, I'd say it's not a software problem, but I'm no expert, let's hope someone comes up with a solution!
I do have the same problem.. Someone told me MS2 users are used to that kind of Problem and it is a hardware bug that happens a lot. You need to get the device repaired to have the camera working again..

actually was to hoping to root the thing , but was waitting if could find some other options or some OTA fixing this issue
this is common for all S4 versions, sometimes mine even restarts the phone when opening the camera app... I guess we have to wait for OTA updates.

Sorry for the slow progress.
I got as far as the "insert coin" animation and then it just looped there. (Not a true bootloop, just stuck at that point with the animation still looping). However, I then tried to flash back to my previously working rom and saw roughly the same behavior, so I'm not completely convinced that the wipe/factory-reset option in the current recovery images is working entirely right.
So, I'm back on pure stock firmware and planning on doing a full sony/google style wipe everything including the internal "sdcard", and trying again from a known clean slate. If I can reproduce the same behavior, I'll call it a bug and send logs. If not, then hopefully I'll have better news.

Ok, thanks man.. Did you flash GAPPS after the ROM though?
If factory reset is not working, you can just wipe the /data partition. That should be enough...
There is an issie with C6902 Models. Somehow they have issues booting AOSP based roms like CM etc.
I'll flash it today. Sorry for the delay Jeroen.. I'm making a web shop for my uncle so don't have a lot of time at the moment. But today I'll flash for sure

OK, I did another install and it seems to be working this time.
Camera is non-functional, I'm sure that's no surprise.
The logs show "LLC length mis-match" repeatedly, although other roms I've run on the Z1 do the same.
So far, everything else seem to be working, but there are quite a few options to run through. I'll try and test out as many features and see if anything else pops up.
For the record, this is on a c6903
I've been living with this rom for a couple of days now, and haven't found any serious issues.
Pie menu works great. Hybrid engine seems fine with various combinations of dpi and layout. The various navigation bar and status bar tweaks seem to do what you'd expect. Same with the power toggles. Haven't delved into halo or gesture settings yet.
I've found that the camera issue is a bit more annoying than I expected, even though I wasn't planning on taking any photos. I know we're all still waiting for a real camera fix, but the "partially working but still buggy" state of the camera in a few of the other roms has been good enough for things like face unlock, qr code scans, etc. I guess you don't realize how much you use that stuff until it's gone.
The hardware info section of the settings seems to be missing a few values, although that appears to be purely cosmetic as all the hardware seems to work fine apart from the cameras. Phone, bluetooth, wifi, gps, etc. all seem fine. I haven't yet tried out some of the more esoteric hardware features (mhl, miracast, etc.)
Fwiw, Antutu is showing lower scores than the last couple of roms I've tried, but that should of course be taken with a grain of salt. (Lies, damn lies and benchmarks.)
I'll report back if anything else pops up.

[DISCUSSION] Xperia Z 4.4.2 Bugs and Errors..

Hey guys, since 4.4.2 has arrived.. I think its fair to create a thread where all of us can report whatever bugs exist in 10.5.A.0.230.. So that Sony can see this and fix them.. Or it might help our devs..
EDIT:
Bugs i found,
1. Wifi gets disabled by itself, a simple reboot solves it though.
2. Small stuttering on the notification bar.
3. RAM leak exists but gets fixed after a reboot(Google's 4.4.2 bug and its fixed in 4.4.3).
4. GPU drivers arent as good as in 4.3..
5. Over time, the fw becomes unstable'ish and shows some lags and apps take time to open.
6. Sometimes calls won't reach the other side and when it does, the caller(us) wont be able to hear anything from the other side.. This happens a lot like once in every 2-3 days..
7. Sometimes after video recording, there is no sound in the video.. Its MUTE..
7. All 4.4.2 Google's bugs..
If u have any other to add, mention me and i'll add em..
Fixes:
Most of the bugs are solved automatically after a simple reboot, if u face lags do wipe cache and dalvik cache and u will see the difference..
Google Play Services battery drain bug can be solved by disabling the Location service.

Yeah its really annoying for kitkat to have a huge drain off battery
By the way, does anyone already tried this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.sdfix
Im still on 4.3 but confirmed info from my friend:
Camera app slower start, typical is 7sec but max was 14-17sec, and overall laggy camera menu.
Stock keyboard slower start, and laggy text select option.
Overall speed of menu is worst.
No audio notification via bluetooth
Battery "sucker" system apps.
4.4 stupid SD card limitation(but its google stupid idea)
Worst performance with GTA: SA
PS enabling Force-GPU Rendering or {omg} 4x MSAA is worst thing that you can do, because it make older apps lag or even FC.

It was expected, seems like they didn't put much effort into this, just to give us "something".I knew it they are not delaying the release just to perfect the firmware, but oh well, going back to my favorite AOSP.It was the same case back then, when they released 4.3 journalists version, then they gave us the very same firmware as official, despite the bugs that everyone was reporting. We got what we deserve I guess.
