Custom Resolution - Android Software Development

Hi
I have a Justop K10A TV dongle, which I'm using as a car computer running Android. Everything is working fine other than the screen resolution via HDMI.
It's putting out 1080p and my display is only 800x480. Can anyone direct me as to where i can perhaps sort this out?
Thanks
Thomas

How does HDMI out work exactly?

Hi. I was trying the HDMI out yesterday for the first time, and it works flawlessly. However, there is only a scaling of the 800X480 image to fill up the 1920X1080 of the TV. Is this always the case, or is there any way to make the elocity A7 output in native 1920X1080?
Thanks

[Q] Output to TV through MHL

Hi,
Can anyone explain me something concerning the MHL HDMI output from the Note to a TV. Is it just the 'Android'-desktop that's being outputted to the tv?
And most important, in what resolution does it come? Is it the resolution from the Note (1280x800) or is it some upscaled HD 1080p?
Lots of good news for you. Check out this thread in Accessories:

Today is the first time tried this MHL cable. Each time I plug in cable my GSM\3G module show 0% connection :-(
The mhl cable works the same as it used to work on my previous S2 I connected to the note and it was working like a charm

Yes, output will become normally with 1280x800 for GN instead of 800x480 at GS2. So, browsing by GN at HDTV is better than GS2. Just like desktop with 720p resolution browsing experience. Remember if your HDTV is not support power to MHL device, you will need to connect power source to the HDMI adaptor when using this. Also, the screen at GN will still on when output to HDTV, so battery will still drain even you have power supply. You can install some app to force turning dark of the screen to save power, eg. "screen filter" app from Market. When playing movie with stock video player, it will upscale to 1080 if your video is that level. However, I recommend using MX video player to play movie instead as it support rmvb, subtitle, software encoding playback, better control panel..... For playing youtube with HD directly, you can install 2.2.16 version of youtube player. If you also want to download the HD movie from youtube, you can install jetvd or keepvid app. It besides playback HD movie from youtube, it also can perform download, download as mp3 and searching at youtube.

My experience is that it will default to whatever the maximum resolution it detects when you turn it on with the HDMI connected.
Are you getting a cropped 1080p desktop on your 720p TV? One of my HDMI ports is busted on my TV and that cropping happened to me when I tried to connect my Q to the TV via an HDMI -> Component converter. Plugging it in direct to HDMI with the TV already on when I booted it fixed it for me
i am having a similar issue, all boxes are checked and it is situation normal, but it cuts off all edges, may swap HDMI ports later

[Q] Only getting 480p when connected to Optoma GT720 HD projector

I could use some help.
I tried resetting back to factory settings. I originally had it connected through my yamaha receiver. I thought that was the problem but then I connected it directly to the projector. Still the same result. stuck at 480p. I've tried it on my 720p plasma and it works fine. There are no video output settings I can change apart from optimize for resolution or framerate in developers options.
Tried switching HDMI cables also.
There is no options on the projector to force resolution, since it auto detects resolution.
After more troubleshooting, seems this is an HDCP/EDID issue with the nexus player and projector combination.
Google Play Movies will only play a blank screen with sound.
Tried switching to a 1080p monitor with a movie playing and it shows up fine on the monitor. Auto switches to the correct resolution and keeps on playing while hot swapping the cables.
I tried chromecast on the projector and it works fine at 720p resolution.
At this point dont know what else I can do.
I've had problems with my Acer H5360 projector, which apparently displays the wrong black levels. It's also had EDID problems before (the chip was not read-only, and got corrupted) and different devices handled the default fallback differently. Is it possible your EDID is corrupted?
I dont belive the projectors edid is corrupted because my receiver lists all the capable resolutions it supports. Chromecast works fine, ps3 auto detects all the resolutions including 3d. Only having the issue with the nexus player. It defaults to 720*480 60hz. I coonected the nexus player to my monitor and it automatically showed 1080p. Flashed the latest update that was released. Still no luck when i reconnected it.
If you take a look at the other thread, the EDID for that guy's system showed that it supported 1080p, but the first timing it declared happened to be a lower resolution, and the Nexus Player just picked that one and went with it, not checking for a higher supported resolution.
That should be something they can fix with a software update, so hopefully they're aware of it and maybe we'll get an update sooner than later.
Got the same problem, same projector, my workaround was to use my old google tv (sony nsz-gs7) and use it as a bypass so my projector would detect it's a 720p projector -_- until they find a workaround....
Did anyone find a solution for this problem? Having the same issue on my Optoma.
Thnx

[Q] Can't display 1080p?

Hi Everyone,
I just got a Nexus Player and connect to my TV.
Everything is good except the resolution stays on 720P.
My TV does support 1080P, since all other devices use 1080P resolution.
And Nexus Player should also support 1080P.
Does any one know if there is a way to manually setup the resolution on Nexus Player?
Thanks a lot.

The TV screen resolution will still stay at 720p, but the Nexus TV screen resolution should be 1080p ! Their is a way to verify this via the app Screen Specs found at the Google Play Store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.MTMDevelopers.ScreenSpecs ! If you cannot get this app let me know. Another way to verify this is via the AnTuTu BenchMark app!

Hi, Thanks a lot for your reply.
However, if the TV screen shows the signal is 720p, that means nexus player sends 720 picture to the TV via HDMI, as a result, you will see a 720 picture, which I expect to see a 1080P picture.
I have no idea why these app shows 1080p in the system, but as long as it doesn't send 1080p to the TV via HDMI, we can't get 1080 quality, right?
If the TV is 1080, but received a 720 signal, that means it is not pixel to pixel picture, the picture is not clear.
Is there a way to force the player to send 1080P signal via HDMI? Will Root support this?
Thanks a lot.

Everything you are saying is correct, but the Nexus TV Player will not override the built in 720p TV Screen resolution ... Yes, the Nexus TV Player is sending a 1080p signal to your 720p TV, the 1080p signal is being down graded to 720p ... In order for you to get full 1080p screen resolution from your Nexus TV Player, your TV will have to support 1080p screen resolution.
Now if your TV supports 1080i/1080p and you have a cable service, their is a way to go into the cable box to change the screen resolution. Any other way, it would have to be changed via the TV settings.

Unless I'm mistaken you appear to be misunderstanding the original issue, his TV can support and other inputs work at 1080p with it, but for some reason he suspects that his Nexus is only outputting 720p, at least that is what his TV thinks its getting.
This appears to happen to other people also, without a decent resolution, hoping that M preview 3 will contain something positive.

I get the same issues. I purchased two Nexus players today, primarily for running Kodi.
The first of these is connected via a Home Theatre receiver to a 1080p TV and is displaying the Nexus Player content at 1080p.
I have a second home Theatre Receiver connected to a 1080p projector and is using the following resolutions:
[li]720p : Nexus Player running Android 5.1.1
[li]1080p : Apple TV 3
[li]1080p : Sony Bluray Player
I also tried swapping the inputs to the Home Theatre receiver to see if the output resolution changes from the Nexus Player. The Nexus Player is refusing to show the content at 1080p. There is also no way to force the output resolution. It certainly makes the viewing experience terrible for HD content on the Play store or via Kodi.
The Nexus Player and Android TV really needs work to improve settings available for manually configuring the output resolution.
Hi Guys - I'm also stuck at 720p output from my nexus player. Have there been any developments on unlocking 1080p?
Does anybody know if there is a fix to this? I just bought a nexus player and it is outputting 720p to my TV. I've searched at various websites and I couldn't find any solutions to this. Any input is appreciated. Thanks!!
I'm having the opposite issue.. hooked up to a cheap 720p TV and it outputs 1080, which the TV fails to convert properly, so I loose an inch or so of viewable screen on many apps (launcher seems OK?)
..found some posts that suggest "overscan calibrator" can fix this problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3234854&d=1427641822
..It worked for my particular issue.
if someone cant answer this problem. I'm taken it back because the picture is horrible
same issue here ... running N preview
tried many hdmi cables
I can't even SEE a picture, because I cannot reset resolution from 1080 to 720 . And the many many many responses on xda have been deafening on this issue.
Is there ANY way to manually set resolution??????
Does any alternative ROM do this? Does the new developer preview? Can it be done with any 3rd party apps like overscan calibrator? Any sort of editor?
