[Q] how to know if my phone is T-MOBILE (UK) or (USA) - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

guys it's my first post here..
i installed a custom rom on my motorola defy without taking a backup of stock rom. now, after installing a jellybean custom rom my defy is asking for a SIM unlock network PIN.
I searched over internet that flashing a stock rom again may unlock my phone. but i have no idea which stock rom to flash?
so, if i come to know about t-mobile uk or usa version than i can download the respective stock rom for motorola defy.
i am providing the following information that might be helpful and identifying whether it's usa or uk.
MB525
IMEI 3515 7304 0228 877
MSN LO26QG7SMR
MKQ7 334411B11
FCC ID IHDP56LC3

Don't post imei/etc online. The only way that your defy is asking for SIM unlock code is that if it wasn't ever fully unlocked(only soft unlocked).
It will NOT get magically unlocked by a stock rom.
You can search for soft SIM unlock for defy which will need to be done after every rom installation, or obtain the unlock code online(paid).

unlock (simlock) g1

Is it possible to unlock for free ? Couldn't find an manual (only jtag).
should I risk to buy an locked phone?
This has been covered elsewhere.
Your simlock can be removed by the service provider.
either that or there is a site out there that charges about £20 to send you the unlock code.
Ive just got a G1 off my cousin today and have suffered the same. Luckily for me he is still a tmobile customer and should be able to get the unlock code from them for free.

Thanks for your confirmation (wasn't sure about this).Jtag can also be done (but thats madness)
Just another question:
I've read that the locked version uses different gsm networks(dual band), while the unlocked versions use quad band.
Can an locked phone that has been unlocked use the quad band (with the right radio) too?
Anyway I've bought the google phone
I found that unlocking on ebay is the fastest and the cheapest way of doing this.
BTW: the phone I'm going to buy has already CM 4.6, should I root again after every build I flash (the kaiser builds were always rooted) ?
I wouldnt have thought you needed to root again if it already has the Cyanogenmod on it as i think its already rooted.
im still learning the android stuff!
i do know that within 3hrs of having my (still locked to tmobile) "virgin" G1 i had the Danger-spl and the latest release of CM on it!
ebay i will have to look into as i have discovered that because im in the UK Tmobile will charge £15 to unlock even though my cousin has had this phone since release.

Simlock has nothing to do with the rom, and a rooted rom has nothing to do with the simlock outside of prompting you for the code if the radio firmware tells the rom its needed to proceed.
There is no reason to unroot/reroot besides increasing the chances you make a mistake and brick the phone.
If you want a different rom that's your choice, but it will have no impact on the simlock.

So after flashing a custom rom (phone was already rooted) , the phone is still rooted?
Reroot is only needed when flashing the original image back (if you want a custom rom later) ?
Sim unlock code is best to unlock the HTC G1,But free unlock code is not possible to get for this Model Phone,You need to pay for it,Get the unlock code from the site Superunlockcodes.com/htc/rs12wp8/ and Unlock it.

How to get rid of SIM Unlock hardlock

In the recent days, I was struggling against my XT890 that was hardlocked for sim-unlock by the carrier (it was already hardlocked when I unboxed it).
What I did was the following:
1. Install Motorola drivers (Device Manager)
2. Install RSD Lite
3. In my case, I downloaded a retail brazilian ROM (carrier-free) from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1933308
4. Install an unauthorized SIM card into the phone.
5. Put the phone in Recovery (Power + Vol-down) and flash the ROM with RSD Lite.
6. When the phone reboots, it should ask for the SIM unlock code. In my case, I entered a wrong code and the phone locked again, then I reflashed the ROM and I got another chance.
Disclaimer: even though this process doesn't require you to unlock the bootloader, flashing a ROM is always risky and I will not assume any responsability if you brick your phone or if for some reason your warranty is void after this process. In other words, do it at your own risk! If you don't have a backup of your ROM or a stock fastboot package for your carrier, you will not be able to return to your stock ROM.
Regards
What do you mean by you get another chance ? Do you mean that the hard lock is removed ? If that its the case have you unlocked it with unlock codes ?

Hi,
That's right. However, I have to say that I have tested it with the mexican Telcel version, and I've seen other people having the same result that I got, since we didn't unlock the bootloader, you shouldn't have issues with the warranty.
However, we haven't tested it with other versions, so you can take it as a resource, but I cannot guarantee that it will work for you...

Hello,
I didn't get how you managed to unlock an hardlocked XT890. I did flash the brazilian retail rom on a eu hardlocked xt890 and it didn't remove hardlock nor accepted the right code. Then flashed back to eu stock rom but simlock just persisted to stay.
Well,
It's weird, I unboxed my Razr I and it was already "hardlocked", indicating I had to wait for the penalty timer. After I installed the brazilian retail via RSD, I got another chance, but I messed up with the code, so it locked again with the same message. I reflashed and then I was able to enter the unlock code. I have to say that I used a ROM that resets the phone data (there are also service upgrades that don't delete user data). Maybe that could be a reason. My phone is the mexican Telcel version, I have seen another person having success with this procedure with the same version, don't know if there are limitations on the european versions, but it shouldn't be.
Maybe if you do a factory reset before flashing? Did you use RSD Lite 6?
Regards

[Q] U8800pro SIM network unlock PIN

Hey!
I didn't find similiar question so I'll ask it here.
I rooted and installed CWM 6.0.3.3 and flashed MIUI rom by gkalenis.
Everything was working great but after I entered my PIN code it asked "SIM network unlock PIN"
I got the code from NCKserver but it didn't work. They said I had to restore huawei stock ROM.
Now I have my U8800 pro unrooted and with stock ROM but it's not asking it anymore.
Does anyone know how I can erter my code now?
With MIUI ROM I can only use Saunalahti (carrier) and I can't even search other networks. (I ilve in Finland)
with stock phone I can use whatever carrier I want.
I have tried it with DNA's and Saunalahti's Sim cards.
Is there any other way to unlock this phone? For example by editing root files?

[Q] any easy way to SIM unlock a GT-I9500 ?

Hi guys,
I read a couple of threads and tried a couple of things and didn't work... Im trying to sim unlock my Galaxy S4 GT I9500 on stock android 4.3 not rooted and is not working.
I read about a code using *#0011# code and didn't work.. Post was not specific about using no sim, original carrier sim or desire carrier sim.. anyway I tried all and was a failure.
I read another thread about flashing a modem and downgrading the firmware but wasnt specific enough about how to do it and the requirements (android version, rooted?, how to do it, etc)
I try one of those "code pages" and even they couldnt help me. My carrier is Movistar in Nicaragua.
Is there is any easy way to SIM unlock my phone? maybe by just installing a pre-rooted, pre-unlocked rom? or is there is a page/guide/video with specific instruction on how to do it?
thanks in advance.
I think the step by step instructions on SIM unlocking in the main thread on the topic are pretty specific. They don't mention downgrading the device modem through Odin however because they were written before Samsung patched the exploits that allowed the SIM unlock to work.
Downgrading the modem to an Android 4.2.2 version in the AP/PDA slot in Odin is necessary to run either unlock metbod. However, you can really mess things up trying to unlock if you aren't careful, especially with the service menu exploit.
