Chartboost vs. Facebook vs. Project Wonderful - General Marketing & SEO

So I released a game on Android about a month ago(Incognito: Interstellar Empire. It was kinda languishing in the play store so I decided to put an ad campaign together at a few different places. I thought I'd share the results because one of them was way more worth the money than the other two.
First, the worst: Project Wonderful
Not wonderful for advertising a mobile game. I should have known this wouldn't be a good platform since the ads are not primarily on mobile devices. Don't be lured in by their cheap rates. Most of the websites with ads on this network kinda suck. I had a really poor click-through rate and it probably wasn't giving me high-quality users. Not even worth posting the stats... (not gonna bother looking it up).
Facebook Vs. Chartboost
Facebook uses the "install this app" in your facebook feed and chartboost uses interstitial ads in game.
I did facebook second upon a recommendation I read online. First off, I should have installed the SDK so that I could have tracked my install rate. Since I didn't, I'll be fair and try to only compare facebook to chartboost in the comparable metrics for which I have both sets of data. The other thing to note is that I paid facebook per click and I paid chartboost per install (which I chose the minimum at .50 cents.) .
Also, I spent a lot more money on chartboost than facebook. (thankfully)
Total Cost
Facebook: $26.64 (split over about 5 days)
Chartboost: $172 (split over 3 days)
total impressions:
facebook: 4,503
Chartboost: 440,275
Clicks:
facebook:113
Chartboost: 30,326
Most shocking comparison:
Cost per click
facebook: .24 cents USD
chartboost: .005 cents USD
cost per Impression
facebook: 5.92 USD
chartboost: .39 cents (yeah, this cost 6% of what facebook cost)
Click-through-rate
facebook: 2.505%
chartboost: 6.89%
Based on this I can tell that chartboost is giving me the higher quality users, and A LOT more value for my money. If you're not convinced yet, heres the last nail in facebooks coffin: I paid chartboost per install, so I know exactly what I'm getting from them. There isn't any gambling involved. Facebook ads are like throwing money out the window and hoping some lands in your yard. Chartboost delivered 344 installs for me. I wish I knew how many facebook actually delivered, but who cares. Based on my google stats it wasn't performing anywhere near chartboost.

Slingplayer for android

Just a quick word to say that this app, which was released today on Google market, works (at least for me) on my unrooted Desire and using the Slingbox Classic. In the case of the latter this was not guarenteed to work for all system configurations. Yippee now I have world cup football at my fingertips!
30 bucks - why ? its free on the desktop.
Because people like OP are willing to pay $30 for it.
No offence, but I think $30 is daylight robbery for something like this. IMO the max amount I would be willing to pay for it is $10...
Given that SlingPlayer Mobile has always been a chargeable extra, and has always been priced at that level for other platforms (WinMo, iPhone etc), it came as absolutely no surprise to me to see the Android version being pitched at the same price point.
Regards,
Dave
I agree its somewhat expensive but I really appreciate its functionality. Also, according to this page (http://support.slingbox.com/get/KB-1000194.html) I think (but I accept its not clear for android market purchase) its a transferable license not only for android but for symbian, blackberry, etc. Therefore pay once get it for your current and future 'phones.
30 is crazy.....

[Q] Anyone Bought CPI-ads through Startapp/Chartboost/Revmob etc....

I have a question to all you guys! All you have some publishing campaign in your games, maybe it can be admob/startapp/chartboost etc...But did anybody create an advertising campaign in those ad networks with (CPI) model? I suppose it shoud work, coz you directly buy users, and if you have a good app, and monetizetion works well, why not? You should have a profit...
P.S.: in my plans, spend approximetly 100$ on Chartboost CPI advertising campaign, only for Italy region (not so hard market and competition) and with minimal bid 0.5$/install. I am interesting in what CTR i will get in purchase (100$ = 200 installs = ?inn-app purchase)
Hi
You are right to spend on CPI to increase your user base by promoting your app via CPI campaign( as every inorganic install gets you an organic install - Statistically) but i think the CPC rates in Italy is, on average, $0.05 and optimistically taking a 2% conversion would give you a CPI rate of at least $1-$2 . You should then weight if you have enough conversions at your end to see if you break even or make profi from the spends. I would suggest , if you have multiple games - try cross promoting your app on your own inventory. Take about 30% of your own inventory and sacrifice the ad revenue from it for your CPI campaigns . You can then calculate the revenue from your games downloads vs your ad revenue loss. If you need any more clarification/help , please write to me on [email protected]

Waypedia review - Not a scam, but not really legit

So here is a real live test and review of Waypedia. Spoiler: We strongly advise against using these guys.
We contacted them and wanted to run a campaign with U.S installs only. Explaining that our only interest is solely U.S traffic.
We ran a campaign with 1k installs over 24 hours, something that was close enough, we got the installs but more spread over 48 hours. The price was decent, since we paid 180$ for 1k installs.
So far, almost good.
We requested to continue on the campaign, but to double the installs (2k 360$) and spread it over 3 days instead. Because we wanted to evaluate a bit more, before starting to spend any significant amount of money.
When we started analyzing the traffic, we saw that we got installs from Vietnam and all kinds of countries. Something that confused us, because we clearly states that we're only interested in U.S only traffic.
We contacted Waypedia asking why our traffic was spread Worldwide and not U.S as requested.
They claimed that they misunderstood that the last campaign should be U.S only traffic and therefore initiated a worldwide campaign. (Because having 1500 installs in Vietnam will boost your app how exactly?!)
They offered to have the remainder of the installs in U.S, but wanted to up the price.
After some discussions back and forth we agreed on having the remainder of installs in U.S without any changes to the price.
Needless to say, we're extremely unhappy with Waypedia for having us pay for their mistakes and then not properly rectifying them. Especially since we stated cleary that non U.S traffic is completely irrelevant for us.
We should have listened to our gut feeling after the first campaign, where it was agreed to have 1k installs within 24 hours and we got them with 48 hours. That should have been the warning sign for us to not continue right there. Considering that they could not live up to the commitment of the first campaign. Something we really blame ourselves for.
We thought it was a bit to good to be true. Turns out it was!
We're sharing our experience, so that other developers doesn't need to do the same mistake as us!

Wow, thanks, I won't try them. Personally I recommend androidinstalls.com services. I love the CPA service, because it looks netural. They offer not just event completion, but keyword search and retention! BTW the best is non incentivized traffic, but unfortunately too expensive...
