Hello there! I'm new to flashing firmware on Sony, is it ok for me to just flash the firmware using the flash tool? Before, I'm using Samsung and if flashing the official firmware using Odin, the binary count wont change. I seriously don't have a clue is it the same thing in Sony or does Sony do have this binary count.

Just install like normal works on kitkat no problem.
Tested and used over and over again sometimes it can't blur.background but generally it's good

Where is the small apps option?
I read in update features that camera include the background defocus app. but i don't see any things...

[HOW-TO] Flash kernel with CWM/TWRP

How-to for flashing **stock** kernel with CWM/TWRP without Flashtool on locked bootloader.
By using this way you don't need to use stripped ftf.
Of course you can't flash custom kernel with locked bootloader, we can flash only stock kernel.
[EDIT]
Added instruction for rpm
1. Extract kernel.sin and rpm.sin from ftf and open Flashtool
2. Go to "Sin Editor", select kernel.sin and click "Extract data"
Do same for rpm.sin

}
3. Download View attachment cwm_flash_kernel.zip (this zip only contains lines for kernel.elf) or add this lines to your updater-script:
Code:
package_extract_file("kernel.elf", "/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/boot");
package_extract_file("rpm.elf","/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/rpm");
4. Add kernel.elf and rpm.sin to root of zip
5. You can flash it with CWM/TWRP now.
Nice. But we still need an unlocked bootloader right?

All custom kernels needs unlocked bootloader.
Is that possible flash kernel via Cwm. cuz i read somewhere xperia device cannot do this.
I want to flash a custom kernel go along with Rom, on my Arc, but dont want to use flashtool/fastboot all the time.
how to do with .img? change .img => .elf is the way?
i'll try and report.
We are talking here about xperia z. For arc you have to find boot.img partition adress.
I will take a look at my moms arc later for proper address.

You can flash kernels with any bootloader status
When booting the kernel, the phone checks if it's an official sony kernel or not (because sony encrypts kernels using a private key, while custom kernel devs only have a public key). If the bootloader is locked and the kernel is not signed by sony, the phone refuses to boot and is basically bricked (don't know if you can unbrick it with flashtool)
So, you can flash the stock kernel through CWM, but i'd probably just advise to flash with flashtool... Because you might accidentally flash a custom kernel and brick the phone
Question ?

14.4.A.0.157 ftf created from xperifirm firmware download..
whats different? plz som screenshot
is it rooted?
OTA update for me just 5.1 MB
so no need for full ftf? if full ftf http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55082588&postcount=1 might help root
I also created a FTF for this 14.4.A.0.157 Nordic Combined Base firmware with XperiFirm (independently from the original poster).

I haven't noticed anything different in terms of user interface so far. However, that is a new kernel and a new baseband so probably a few under-the-hood fixes from Qualcomm. On initial impressions it seems very fast and responsive (though previous firmware was also fast and responsive so that could just be placebo).
thanks a lot for this. I do prefer the nordic firmware because the signal icon and he data(4G) icon are separated
Just flashed this over the 2nd edition russian 14.4.A.0.108, and I don't see any visible changes to the UI. But for some reason(or maybe the absence of doomkernel and xposed modules) I feel that my phone feels more responsive like what paul5425 stated.
BTW, easyroottool does not work, so no root as of now?

Maybe someone could make a pre-rooted and odexed .zip?
That would be great.
It might fix the exploit used by towelroot
i got it rooted by using .108 kernel and rooting it newroot and then flashing .157 kernel
I will do same as @Pakman123 i read on newroot thread that this is a way to root latest fw

Yes, please. So when I flash the deodex zip the bloatware will be removed? I probably also wouldn't be using the bloatware, but could you name what app you removed? I am a bit new with deodexing, I have tried and failed, so could you also tell me which recovery you used? Have You also tried if Xposed is working? With rooting I will be using newroot as I have understood, since it's not as easy? I know it's a lot of question, but thx in advance..

Not sure if you can do it that way but what i would do is downgrade back to kitkat and root using TowelRoot. Then flash this lollipop pre root using philz recovery.

Cheers for this works fine apart from every music app gets killed when the screen is off for a few mins. I've turned off stamina, added exceptions to stamina mode etc but nothing has fixed it. Any ideas? Bit of a bugger when driving/ listening to music. Only started since flashing this.
Edit: sorted was Greenify. Must be a bit more efficient with the new os version as nothing was different from before
should I "fastboot flash boot boot.img" or something else?

I've already restore it via flashboot flash recovery twrp.img restore a previous backup and reflash boot.img but as I'm experiencing camera issues (Couldn't connect to camera) want to try an stock kernel.

[Q] S5 Active Advice required please

Hi Folks
My partner has just got the S5 Active and she loves it..
But now she would like to update from 4.4.2.. Phone says she has latest rom so my questions are this
1)What is the latest official rom for the Active?
2)Whats the BEST root method?
3)What Custom roms are suitable?
3)Finally what is the best route to take to flash a CUSTOM rom?
looking forward to your responses
regards
Lohtse
1) Here you can find the latest TW stock rom:
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/
Android Lollipop is available for the S5 Active. You can download the latest Firmware and flash it via Odin. You don't need root for that.
2) My preferred root method is flashing CF auto root via Odin. After that I install another recovery like TWRP
3) Nobody can answer that. Try and find it out (perform a full wipe incl cache before you install a custom rom)
4) This steps: root, recovery, full wipe, custom rom, and at least if you want and need that: custom kernel

Thank you for the help...
finally got it sorted after reading around 9-10 different guides... all of which had little bits missing
now she's a happy bunny with LP on her Active and I'm a tired old fart with droopy eyes!!!!!
Just need a custom recovery now!!
Congratulations! How you solved it?
Yeah recovery is the same problem. It exists no recovery for the G870A
Two things that I found that allowed me to sort the Active which was mentioned
firstly to allow Flashfire to work you had too set clock back past 1/15/15
and you had to also set flashfire to boot into download to allow you to flash the G870A_OC5_Bootloader.tar.md5 file via Odin on the pc.. once I did these it worked...
Just depends which guide you read to find a COMPLETE one....
Damn that sounds very tricky

Not really just no two guides the same.... soon as I noticed the minor differences it was easy.
1) root with towel root copy stock LP(rooted version)
2) Install and set date to 1/1/15 then open Flashfire
3)Flash Stock rooted LP using flashfire making sure you have flashfire set to boot to download when finished
4) open Odin PC and connect S5Active
5)Point Opins AP slot to location of the G870A_OC5_Bootloader.tar.md5 file
6) Flash and reboot and your done...
MAJOR issue was the flashfire issue once found issue and set it as stated above I was Up and running after 10minutes Just had spent 4 hours failing before I notice and figured out what the issues was...
Simple really.... Well it was in the end lol

[Request] Sony's Android Concept Marshmallow Build 2085

Hello everyone,
As you know Sony give us a Concept Rom based on Android Marshmallow. It should have been only accessible to 10 000 people, but, Thanks to @Jozinek, @jenkins-84, and @russel5 every possessor of an Xperia Z3 Compact can flash this rom, using Flashtools or using custom recovery.
Among the tons of great things that this rom contains, Sony gives us OTA update. Initially the rom started on version 2058 and everyone could update to 2085 BUT Sony cut, for an unknown reason, the OTA update.
Some people have been able to update their rom BEFORE Sony's update cuting, and this is my request :
Someone having a Sony Xperia Z3 Compact using Sony's Android Concept Marshmallow updated to MRA58K.Z1.2085-somc, rooted or not, with custom kernel or not, please contact me, via this thread, or via PM, so I could try to make an flashable update for everyone stuck to 2053
[NEWS]
Hi there, some people send me, or are uploading their 2085 files. Thanks to them for responding me !
In the next hour I'll be working for the 2085 flashable zip, if all goes well, between today and tomorow, it will be available !
