awesome friend . very nice. my brother have z1 so i can see the different . the quality and the colours are much better in Z2. you can see a massive different .
Thank you

Looks too good man, nice battery.

Well, battery looks like to be similar to Z1. It's 40% @ 3h 24m screen on time, so it should be 5-6 hours screen on, like my Z1.

I think it'll do better than that. Z1 can only go for 4 hours max with auto sync, 3G and WiFi on.

I hope so. Anyway, im very happy with my Z1 batter life, more then happy.

As long as it can hold a whole day, I'll be happy. It can't be worse than my Nexus 4 not even holding a whole day.

Actually i used Youtube, Google+ ,FB , Twitter, Fancy, hangout ,Listen Music and email .

Looks like a real phablet performance. My old Note and Note 2 could easily last 2 to even 3 full days with light "as a phone" usage.

How do you get a model so early?

Thanks for sharing, what's the longest on-screen time you've achieved? How much % brightness do you use?

well as i know his friend gave him a protocoltype version before release and all leaked photos were from his phone

Now have second thoughts about buying Z2. I never get less than 8 hours screen time (over 24 hours total time) on my Note 3. Tho I am using a custom kernel.

So with 2600mAh battery HTC just did a great job of 71 hour endurance,
do you think that with 3200mAh battery Sony will do much longer cause it runs in the same chip set and all.
Xperia Z2's display is slightly bigger than the HTC One(M8).

The Z1 came up pretty short despite the 3000mAh, so Sony needs massive improvement over efficiency. I think it's doable on the HW front, big question mark is the screen that let the Z & Z1 down. Fingers crossed.

I don't know how sony managed to screw the battery life on the Z1, that battery is huge and yet it underperforms, I hope history won't repeat itself with the Z2 :crying:

It is the screen, the best example is the Xperia Z1 Compact. it's doing a good job with 6hours of screen on time.

Samsung talked alot about battery life so I kinda expected this results. Maybe phosphorescent green pixels helped to achive better results in web browsing tests, or this technology never made into SGS III? What do you think?
See how other phones performed in same tests:
One X
iPhone 4S
Galaxy Note
Galaxy SII
Awseome! :-D

Wow very good. A larger battery but a more battery consuming screen comes out a better score than HOX.
Wow really good results
The question is how long before Samsung release a 2500 mah extended battery? That would make it even more epic.

I haven't owned a phone for a while where the battery time didn't see improvement on some of the roms and see no reason why that would change with this one. I do notice as I read threads like this that most people seem to be happy running their screens at lower brightnesses. I'm not one of them lol, I like it nice and bright at all times.
i smell bull****.
I very much doubt the video playback numbers, unless it was a video playblack of a black screen.

Only 2500? Id like to see a 2750 or like that. Wont add that much to design and it would be awesome! 40+ hour's is great, add on maybe +5 and that would be great. Wishful thinking if it was a 3300 ext battery like a RAZR. If only it wasn't Motorola.

Nice review BTW.
Battery test on gsmarena are out (27h talk time WOW, 6h web, 6h video) . I am surprised and very disappointed. I was thinking that in web browsing battery life will be at minimum as S4 Active (7,5h) it would surprise me if Z1 score 10h in web browsing but 6h?
My first day's usage. Screen time is 2:40 and I have made a few calls, Exchange ActiveSync, Google Music (1 album) and 1 podcast (40 mins).

it should be able to last me until I get home after the gym tonight at around 7pm.
@themw
What were your screen settings? Auto or manual? What level of brightness?
With that type of screen time and usage it looks like 30% longer battery life than my XZ. With similar usage I'd most probably be at 10% or even lower.

After reading gsmarena's review of Z1 I'm trying to find proofs that their battery test was either flawed or their test unit was faulty (well it surely was considering that the lens was decentered on their unit) cause it is impossible for Z1 with 30% bigger battery to have lower scores than Z.
I think the battery results are expected.
Sony itself says 6.6 hours of movie playback.
http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/products/phones/xperia-z1/specifications/#tabs
Results in gsmarena are consistent with what Sony mentioned.

Can someone explain to me how they got the same battery to perform the same on the Z1 as the ZU, when the screen is that much smaller? And why is the G2 SO FAR ahead of the Z1 in web browsing and video playback?
It's the same battery, and the screen is .2in smaller than the G2.
What's sapping the battery so hard in this machine?

It's the screen technology, methinks. I don't think Sony has found a way to deliver a power-efficient quality screen. I mean, look at the standby times compared to the G2. It's when the screen is on that the Z1 fails miserably.
it takes at least 2 weeks to condition the battery, it will gradually improve

As we know xperia Z1 have great backup of battery upto 3000 mah
The battery drains quickly in Xperia Z1 because of its software, Sony needs to improve its software for good battery life.
Or you can wait for custom Roms from other developers who work on it and removed those things that are using more battery......

g2 has gram which increases battery life by 26% says lg, and some sort of new battery tech they use
26% Better Screen, 10% more battery life they say.
btw, Better Battery Stats is free for XDA users.
You should use that tool for Battery Statistics, such as Screen on time, WakeLocks, CPU times.
Just take a screenshot, and save the file as .txt then copy and paste it into a
spoiler tag.
My first day with the Z1 was pretty good.
13 hours off charge with 3 hours of screen time left me with 10% before I reached for the charger.
That is with 50% brightness.
45 minutes streaming music over 4G.
2 YouTube videos.
30 minutes of gaming (Punch Quest)
The rest of the time taken up with browsing, texts, a few photos and installing the rest of my apps.
I've turned off the optimised backlight option too.
Overall not as good as what people are reporting with the G2 but still better than my old N4.

[Q] Is Nexus 4 still worth ?

Hello guys ! So i'm thinking to buy a new phone to replace my gnex because it drains too fast when in mobile network. I ask you all, is nexus 4 still a good phone to accompanied your daily life ? Especially on the battery.
P.S. I heard that since lollipop, the battery is better. Is that true ??

I wouldn't go from gnex to nexus 4. For me battery life is worse on lollipop. If battery is important to you buy some other device. The battery life on any nexus device is not good.
The Nexus 4 is still a very good device. If it wasn't, this forum wouldn't still have very active discussion and development.
Its 2 main disadvantages are the camera, which is mediocre, and the battery life, which is also mediocre. It should be better than your Galaxy Nexus though.
If a strong battery is more important to you, look at the 2013 Moto G. Slightly smaller screen, but still 720p, and very good battery life. The 2015 Moto E doesn't have as good a screen, but has even better battery life.

Whether you have sync and data/wifi active etc.. Auto brightness.. Any other deciding factors

3 hours, only my second day but thats with bluetooth/wifi on all day + full brightness (auto) + I live in a poor signal area
I am sure It will get better, its definatly far better than my galaxy s6.
Possibily very slightly worse than the Z3 but too early to tell.
3hrs SoT, WiFi all day, down to 29% now... Not stellar.
I've gotten 6 hours on my 3rd day, but I spent around 3 hours underground, so flight mode was switched on. Overall, I've spent a couple hours listening to Spotify and redditing for the most part of those 6hrs. I am pretty satisfied with the battery life, it's just a little bit worse compared to what I was getting on Z3.
5 hours in typical use with wifi or 3G data on.
~4.5 Hrs. Posted some screenshots -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63442175&postcount=97
Mine will soon hit > 5.5 Hrs though
So far so good for me. Before my Z5, I has a OnePlus One (known for its stellar battery life). Yup, the Z5 battery seems to drain faster than the OnePlus One when using it, but on the other hand I noticed it seems to use less power than my OnePlus on bluetooth + screen off, in the car. I always listen to the same podcast when I go to work in the morning (it takes 1 hour), and my Z5 lost only 2% this morning (from 100% to 98%). My OnePlus One would usually lose 4-5%.
I received my Z5 yesterday though, so I'll let it settle down a bit too. I will report back in a few days
Awesome device though. It's well built, it feels very premium compared to my older phones (a cheap OnePlus One that I liked a lot and an ugly but very good Galaxy Note 3)
Today I'm at 2hrs sot, and down to 40%. I've been offered a full refund, and I'll be taking the phone back on Monday.
I'm very disappointed in the z5, and perplexed how others seem to have great battery life.
Today so far and i was sat nav'ing for half an hour

Thanks for your feedback! Does your battery last an entire day with moderate use? I am not really a heavy gamer. I just usually surf the internet and some social media apps.
By the way, kindly answer the poll above. Thank you so much!
I agree with dark nvidia also in my testing on a rooted z5 I get 8-9 hours on constant screen on time from 100%-0% is 8H of HD movie content / gaming to have to charge my device for 2h for 100% to start all over again I would say I'm a very heavy user and I have for the the first time since my Nokia 23210 I only have to charge this thing once a day! I bet an average user could get away with even more!
8h screen on time that's pretty dope
Read that battery life was just average

With moderate use (emails, playing music [yay mSD cards!!!], and some video streaming), I usually get close to two full days out of a charge on my Z5. If I unplug at 8:00 am, on a normal day I'm at between 48-54% by midnight.

By the way, does any body experience that your Z5 rear glass cracked even without falling? I read some comments about it and I am also kinda worried it might happen.
Happy new year

Same to you. Still got 6.5 hours in Boston.
My opinion, Z5 definitely worth the investment.
Simply put, it can do everything the other phones can, with the addition of having the most advanced video camera ever. It's too bad the reviews just glossed over this important feature. Sigh. If one is willing to pay $600+ for a Samsung or Apple, why not get one that can actually take good video as well?

Nope, just saw the reviews. Z5's closed-loop actuator is simply way better than OIS for video. For example:

DXOMark said the Z5 is the only phone with good video stabilization.
is this a joke? 8 hours sot? best phone ever? what?
Im happy with my phone and its worth the money IMO but this thread is full of misinformation. Coming from a note 4 the only thing i miss is the bigger screen.
I've got my Z5 from october when I renew contract with operator, so cost me much less than normal. But if i had to buy Z5 for the normal price I wouldn't buy it at all ATM. For me this phone isn't worth such of money. Better wait till prices goes down or buy Z3. Thats my opinion.

What misinformation are you referring to?
You should not think that 8 hour SOT is normal
I get like 4 hours or maybe 5 but not more. In 24 Hours
With my S6 it's 3 hours SOT in 12 hours.
So the Z5 battery is much better

Having upgraded through most of the Xperia range and I have to say, the Z5 is the best yet. Good (not great) battery life, lovely screen and a fast, almost AOSP-style OS. Add to that decent camera, accurate fingerprint scanner, SD slot and no more flappy covers for the micro-USB slot and I think we have a winner.
Just needs more development.

8 hours sot is pretty much bull**** and im sorry but it doesnt have the best camera... far from it
Back to reality..
I am still deciding whether to keep or not this phone, I am badly needing a new one since my trusty HTC one charge is not enough to run half a day at my current needs.
So I thought I try the z5, as others mentioned like the clean ui, camera and dedicated shutter button, fingerprint reader placement, quick charge, fast reacting as expected and many others. What's less to like is camera's low light capability and the fact that the camera app reacts way slowlier than my 3yo phone. Coming to battery life, I was expecting the advertised 5h sot. Surely, only a week in, I have even fully cold charged it aka recalibrating the battery if a phone this new ever needed it.
These are screenshots I just took a few moments ago. I was using lately lux for controlling brightness, usually below the 50% mark.

In my opinion the battery life is better if you don't play with it.
Maybe there is something wrong with your phone.
Don't calibrate, or change anything in system. Just use it.
Im at 3:30 hour SOT since the last 17 hours. GPS on high accuracy.
Facebook had the highest usage with 27%.
I think the batter life is very good if I delete Facebook
