"Samsung plans to update the Galaxy S3, Note 2 and Grand 2 Duos to android 4.4 starting next month which can be understood considering that the Galaxy S5 will go on sale first. The update may not be coming early but I think most of the owners of this Galaxy Trio will be happy to know that it eventually would. The Galaxy S3 (GT-I9300) was rumored to be dropped off from the Kitkat update list and since then it has been a long wait for some “good news”, the android 4.3 update created numerous problems for the Galaxy S3 owners and its about time that Samsung starts correcting their mistakes."
Features of the Android 4.4.2 update for Samsung Galaxy Devices:
Album art are displayed on Lock Screen while playing Music.
Camera shortcut is displayed on lock screen.
Upgraded Emoji icon in Keyboard.
Location service are integrated and more detailed by new Location menu.
Default SMS app & launcher can be assigned via Settings.
White Icons in the Notification Bar.
Wireless mobile printing options via Samsung +HP printers.
Performance Tweaks.
Android 4.4 Google Apps support (Google Drive & Google Photos).

I think it should be the last update for us!

I also think that there will be no more official update after 4.4.2.

Ofcourse it's possible to do this yourself, but the process will take ages since they don't open source the software.
If Samsung would give out the sources of their touchwiz rom, it would be a bit easier.
Porting from the Note 3 for example is really hard cause of the differences in our hardware.

BREAKING !!!! OFFICIAL KITKAT FOR Galaxy GRAND

Yesterday, Samsung U.S. confirmed that 14 devices will soon be making the switch to Android 4.4 KitKat. However, there was no mention of when international models would be receiving the KitKat update. Fret not users, as we now have confirmation as to which international models will be getting the Android 4.4 KitKat update. The list is Samsung Poland’s official KitKat update list that was obtained today by Polish blogger Robert Nawrowski. It is to be noted that not all models listed below would be making the switch to KitKat right away. They will move to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, and eventually receive Android 4.4 KitKat.

Here are the international models that will be making the switch to Android 4.4 KitKat:
Galaxy Note 3
Galaxy Note 2
Galaxy S4
Galaxy S4 Active
Galaxy S4 Zoom
Galaxy Mega 6.3
Galaxy Mega 5.8
Galaxy Grand
Galaxy Express
Galaxy Note 8.0
Galaxy Note 10.1
Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition
Galaxy Tab 3 7.0
Galaxy Tab 3 8.0
Galaxy Tab 3 10.1
The list is identical to the list of models detailed by Samsung U.S., although unlike the U.S. list, it isn’t clear as to when these mobiles will receive the OTA update. Most devices launched last year are included in the list, with a few notable exclusions like the Galaxy Core.

May be true may be not.
After the 4.2.2 update samsung had declared that 4.2 will be last of galaxy grand's update cycle. But rumours are getting around this phone because it is one of the successful handsets samsung ever had in the market. Also people expect that a new update will come out aince the 4.2 updates were utter flop which almost killed the phones.
If the kitkat update rolls out, its well n good.
But the real thing is, it is less likely for the grand to get KK. Samsung may roll out updates to fix the problems in 4.2.2. But 4.4 is a bit far dream.
But as some users quoted grand is also among the update lists released in US and Poland. But still there is a question its Grand or newer Grand 2.
Anyway lets hope for the best, taste kitkat from our developers who are gods compared to a group of mudheads in samsung.
Sorry for the long story

The top dogs Galaxy S5 and Note 3 as expected have already completed their updates, meaning you can see them rolling out globally anytime now. The other less famed ones like the Galaxy S4, Note 3 Neo, Grand 2, Galaxy S4 Mini and surprisingly Galaxy Note 2 (LTE & Dual SIM variants of the concerned one’s too) are either “Under Testing” or “Pending” at the moment, hence a roll out it expected to hit the Asian, Australian, African and European regions next month.
As usual keep in mind that the time frames for your specific region/country/carrier may differ widely from the others, but eventually you will get an update if you happen to have the qualified models.

official for our phones it will be in march 2015 or maybe later, if now the tests are in pending.
4.4.4 is not changing very much in the firmware so it won't be difficult to implement

True. Especially considering they haven't even fully rolled out 4.4.2 yet. Almost 4 months since they've started, and still not arrived for Nordic countries.
I am also still waiting voor 4.4.2 for my S4 mini (9195 ETL)
So, that are some great now. I can't wait for the official 4.4 for the i9192

thats really good news, if 4.4.4 its released for the korean version of S4 mini in the future will be released to the international version of the phone. just like 4.4.2 was released first to regional versions of the phone (us & canada) and after that to the international version.

update will be stoped at 4.4.4

Since the day Google officially announced Android 5.0 Lollipop in it’s finalized form many manufacturers like Motorola, Sony and HTC have detailed their plans for the future updates and as usual Samsung is lagging behind. Today our sources at Samsung’s R&D division have been able to send us with what is said to be the “very first update road-map based on Android 5.0 for Samsung Galaxy smartphones”. The list is rather short and the only non flagship contender to show up in this road-map is the Note 3 Neo, which has it’s fate undecided yet. The other surprising news is that the last year Galaxy S line flagship, Galaxy S4 is “Awaiting Approval” for Lollipop 5.0, while the confirmed ones include - Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Alpha, Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 3
At this moment the update is in testing phase and hence months away from the actual roll out to commence. Also the update to Android 4.4.4 KitKat (final build of KitKat 4.4) is supposed to roll out prior to the Lollipop version. The other Samsung galaxy smartphones like the Galaxy Grand 2, Galaxy S4 Mini, Galaxy Note 2 seems to have been omitted from the Android 5.0 Lollipop update and will likely end their journey at 4.4.4 KitKat.

sometimes they add more to the list later on.
still, march 2015 for S4 seems pretty bad too..
I used to think it doesn't matter cause you can install AOSP / CM roms.
Have done that for 2 years now.
this month I switched back and realized it's been a mistake.
Stock firmware is generally more stable, but more importantly there are so many features that you just can't get working properly in AOSP/CM roms
- camera would always crash & become unusable until reboot
- no decent music/video player DLNA streaming
- slow boots
- other limitations due to missing samsung frameworks
i would never go back to AOSP/CM even if it means staying on old version of android
yes pity ...
But as far as i'm concerned ,i will HIGHLY prefer to have a REAL firmware KK 4.4.4 with a great baterry life and full stable ===> a phone very pleasant for usage !
And if ART is good now for near "all" apps ,it will be fantastic .
5.0 Lollipop will nothing to gain more "in the absolute"......just a new look "maybe" (not loved by every peoples ) ,andit would be completely useless because i really dont believe at all that Samsung want to develop a full new firmware with interrestings features for an "old" phone like our S4-mini ......it's useless to just change linux base only (exactly what we have seen when we have updated 4.2.2 to 4.4.2 )
And Samsung don't give a sh** !!! about mid range phones released in the middle of 2013 ..... they only think about S5-mini ,S5 ,last Notes ,Alpha ...etc ... for to suck the market with fierce competition with Apple ( and HTC ,LG ...etc...) ....and they are concerned with tablets too !
I really don't care about this...I think most of us here are waiting for CyanogenMod versions of Lollipop...cleaner, faster and updated more frequently than any other version of Android...

yes !
Cyanogenmod is really the best alternative for standard users who want a "light" system & battery friendly ...
But for our S4-mini ,there are bad chance that CM team don't develop a CM12 at all four our and we have to pray for to have an unoficial port ( i hope that i'm wrong ?! )

Because Samsung still hasn't learned that being beat over the head with a metal pipe repeatedly, still hurts really bad and can cause you to bleed out.
I think their policy is to update the old devices but not more than one or two versions behind the flagships. This way they can sort of say that they do the updates and still keep desirability of the new devices for their newest OS. It makes sense for them but I agree it sucks, preferably I would buy a phone from another company however nothing beats Dual SIM from S5 Mini.
Why this discussion continues ? It is confirmed that S5 mini will be updated to 5.1.1 , which is the latest version of Android for now . And is not behind the latest flagships of Samsung.
It is a luck for us , considering that the hardware is even weaker than S3(I9305) , which didn't get an update to Android 5.

Good news to all galaxy note 10.1 (2014 edition) owners, the lollipop 5.1.1 update is on the way but it will take time, also only P60x devices will get the update (2014 edition only) and they are as following [SM-P600, SM-P601, SM-P605, SM-P607T]
"The same update will be available to ALL Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition (SM-P60X) variants only worldwide. The firmware version is [P607TUVUBOI2] and the OTA package size is about 900MB in size."

regards,
That's good then. Looking forward to this update.
Lol its about damn time. I stopped believing it would happen... Still wish they would release an updated model though. Otherwise I will have to look into replacing my battery soon
...it says 5.0.2
Apart from that, yeah it is known for quite some months if you had followed that site, it's in these forums that people were blowing out of proportion little things. Apparently that's the pattern of Samsung with all their devices. When they approach end of Life they take their sweet time before updating them for one last time ... that means -sadly- that we won't get Marshmallow, on the other hand Marshmallow -supposedly- (will) have proper multitasking, so my just flash CM13 (or sth)...
good lol

If it goes on in this speed, the P600 will get it in a few days. But there is the Exynos/Snapdragon gap, so i think it will take some time for the wifi only users to get Lollipop. Hopefully before the Release of Marshmallow, so we had the latest Version of Android, for a few days
I think that sm-p600 and sm-p601 will get 5.1.1 at same date.
Because that was that happened with p900 and p901 (5.0.2)

There is probably less of a gap than you think because of the Note Pro / Tab Pro / Tab S containing extremely similar Exynos SOCs and already having these updates.

P605 NEE got 5.1.1 few days ago!
CF-Autoroot works? It went on a bootloop from hell. Perhaps I missed something?!
Need to wait from samsung to release kernel sources.
Only with permissive kernel you can get root working.
Otherwise will get bootloop.

So I noticed
I could download firmware from http://samsung-updates.com/ and DL 5.1.1.
Although I solved it by flashing 4.4.2 on Odin.
This is a very positive surprise. Thanks Samsung!
I cant wait for the update, finally is coming OMFG!
Just an advance question out of curiosity - are the official updates likely to make any difference for anything that is not replaced if you are using a custom ROM? That is, would it make sense for me to flash the update for SM-P600 once it comes out and then go back to my current ROM (@joshndroid's temasek 12.1 build), or would that be a pointless exercise?
Folks.
Samsung customer care (India) said the update for sm-p601/600 will come 14 october. (rumors)

pointless, that build already flashes kernel and system partition. The only point in doing that is if the author suggests updating the bootloader
can anyone post some screenshots for the update
mine is p601 I can't wait haha
