[Q] D801 TWRP after 4.4 (Rooted)? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all, I did a quick search and did not find an answer, so I apologize if this was asked already. This is sort of a 2 part question.
First, I wanted to try out the official 4.4 on my D801 so I used THIS file to update without loosing root access. The only loss is it takes away your TWRP. Is there anyway I can get a recovery installed so I can switch between stock and custom? That would be awesome.
If its not possible, is there a way for me to downgrade so I can use ROM's again? I know its easy with a .kdz on a PC, but unfortunately (I really mean it, this sucks) I have a mac.
I really appreciate any help!
Thank you!

yes those are from files here before they figured out how to get recovery here is the new version http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2673736 but as of this week the flash tool has begun acting up and does not want to downgrade, seems like lg caught up on what we were doing anyways good luck
edit- here is another way to downgrade (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2625044) which some people have succeeded with the best of luck

No you dont flash back to stock through a .zip update. You have to follow those instructions if you want your phone to be unrooted and back stock. Its not a hard process to do
Will this restore OTA update capabilities. I've read on other threads where once rooted it will still download but not INSTALL the updates, anyone know??
Thanks

[Q] Help with some of the basics (root&unroot)

Ok so i know i am a newbie to this sort of thing but i wanted to wrap my head around everything and also specifically to my phone before i decide to do something and the results are permanent.
Firstly ill start off with saying im a Canadian Virgin Mobile customer and i just got the Galaxy S4 (SGH-i337m).
Ok so i want to root my device but i am confused about some of the basic concepts. I saw the tutorial video posted for my specific phone by the smoking android (link for those who havent seen it: youtube. com/watch?v=cI9r5dEcNo4) and i understand that the rooting process is fairly simple.
What i am confused about though is my options once i am a root user and if i ever chose to revert back to original. Lets say i went ahead and rooted my phone. Will i be able to software update through the updates that virgin sends me? also if i am able to then will i maintain root acess?
my second biggest question is lets say for whatever reason i want to go back to the way my phone is now, with the stock virgin firmware. is this possible? and with no trace of the root before (is this the same as achieving original status instead of a custom one)? i know that you can remove the root and then reset the binary counter but im not too sure how all of this works, its a lot to take in at once.
im just trying to clear things up and yes i am quite new to all this (got my s4 yesterday) but i am a quick learner and im just trying to get a grip on everything.
thanks in advance for bearing with me

Why modem? is that really necessary, I think you mean kernel.
if you flash back to stock, modem and kernel will be included.
Have you tried this thread also? you do have a i337m

Will heimdall use the zip downloaded from sammobile or do you have to extract the .tar.md5 from the zip?

look in g2 android development just over 5/8 down the page is root your g2YAY! - I would do a bit more reading first and if you root make sure you have a recovery twrp or cwm and make sure to back up before changing anything its really worthwile reading up on the subject as you can get yourself in a mess if you don't know what youre doing its quite possible to flash back to factory but that is another story not very hard but read read read before doing anything

Can someone send me a stock rom backup?

Hey guys.
I know this is a lot of ask and maybe even impossible, but I've messed my phone up pretty bad and it's being sold tomorrow. Accidentally tried to update a a rooted device and its stuck in TWRP bootloop.
is there anyway someone can send me a D803 Telus stock 4.4 rom? Or how to get one? the "go back to stock" thread is confusing and the host site to download all the drivers is down at the moment.
thanks, sorry in advance. lol
Wow. How lazy can you be? Go back to stock thread got super easy since a new, easier to use tool has been released.
Also, had you bothered a little bit with searching, you would have found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2451696

[Q] First thing to do with new G2?

Hey! Tomorrow I'll be receiving a new LG G2 and I'm wondering what's the first thing I have to do in order to root it.
I always used HTC and Moto devices so I have quite an experience in unlocking bootloaders, but in the guide for rooting I red here, your don't have to unlock the bootloader or anything like that in order to root it, is that right? Is any step I should do before trying to root?
Thanks for your help in advance!

Hi, You have to know first what model and what version, KK? or JB?
After that, if is on KK use this Towelroot (just search forum)
All the credit goes to @geohot for amazing root by just an apk
1. Install apk
2. Make it rain
3. Phone will reboot
4. install Super SU from play store
5. Sit back and relax
For TWRP use this How To Install TWRP Recovery On LG G2 Running Android 4.4.2 Kitkat
Hope this helps

Hey, I have a D806 model. It's with JB and when I hit the manual update check it says something like "Device not registered yet".
What's best to do? First update and then root or the other way round?

Well, first of all, after you root, NEVER take an OTA update or you'll brick. That being said, although the previous way mentioned is easier, I'd suggest getting used to adb and its miracles. Check here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48709232&postcount=869 for a guide on how to root with adb. Adb is very useful if you screw something up.
As for the order in which to do things, it's basically up to you. I believe the 806 is the same as the 802, so check that section out for stock ROMs and such, especially if you root first. It seems like you may have to update manually either way since you get an error while trying to OTA update.

My pleasure I'm actually really new to Android myself (got my first device in May) and it felt overwhelming at first but everyone on XDA and all the threads are so helpful.
I almost got a HTC One before deciding on the LG G2 and I just love it. Loooooooove it.

Hey, I've already rooted it using adb. I thought I'd be fine with some Xposed modules, but I couldn't find many for the G2 so I think I'll end up installing a custom ROM based on KK stock, but since I'm in Jelly Bean I don't know how to do this (read somewhere I should flash a baseband of KK or somethings like that and got really scared haha)
Hope you can help me!
EDIT: Downloaded the Kitkat baseband and CloudyG3 ROM. I don't have TWRP because I can't find the file for D806. I'd appreciate if someone could guide me to the right direction!
