There are a few options.
- Google to find XBMC variants that includes HW acceleration
- Install a Plex server and app combo. It will transcode your 720p videos on the fly but the interface is very nice and supports many back end OSes
Be aware that the shutter via WiFi may be simply that the video bitrate is higher than your WiFi supports (consistently)
My personal set up to get reliable playback well away from my router is not for the faint of heart but I will mention it none the less.
Backed server:
- Ubuntu with a Web server
- Python script that creates Web pages of my video collection with metadata from MythVideo database
N10 apps:
- MX Player
- Boat Browser
N10 HW:
- micro USB OTG cable
- USB Gigabit Ethernet adapter
- Gigabit Powerline adapters connecting router to backroom
I did warn you it was extreme but it works without issues day in and day out even with 1080p content.

This is the best explanation i have had, thankyou very much

Epic 4G Allshare preformance

Yesterday I started messing around Allshare on the Epic and had no problem setting it up. All I had to do was connect to my Wi-Fi, start the app, and WMC and XBMC both saw my device. However, I'm having performance issues with streaming video. When I try to watch a 720p video from my phone I'm getting stuttering and buffering, lower resolutions videos are a little better but the same thing happens. I was getting issues on my Macbook and PC, so I don't think it is computer issue. WMC and XBMC do not make a difference, I experience the same issue in both programs. I'm connected with 802.11n on WNDR 3700 router so I doubt that's the problem. Its either the Allshare application it self or the phone, maybe even the SD card isn't fast enough to stream 720p video.
Has anyone else tried to stream 720p video from your phone to another device, did you experience any problems?
The only streaming issue that I've had with the 720p video is my television won't play the audio properly, says codec not supported but I have no stuttering, and this is using a wireless G network.

Question,
How do you get it to find your pc? Seems mind won't find my pc?

It finds my DLNA server, I don't think it can connect directly to your shared drives, or drives in general.

If you have Windows, you're all set with Windows Media Player!

Does a 720p recording from the Epic's camera stream to your PC smoothly?
Haven't tried to the pc, but didn't work on the ps3
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I tried it with both Win 7 and PS3. The avi file that played on the PS3 didn't play on WMP. Videos recorded on the Epic worked on the Win 7 wasn't supported on the PS3. I had occasional stuttering and buffering problems (maybe a few seconds every 5 min). My wireless signal is probably only 50% at that location however.
doesn anyone know how to play it in tv... my tv is dlna but everytime i try to play it saids unable to play!? anyone?

Netflix work around plus more

you can easily watch highly quality Netflix movies plus control all of your PC with the app called
Splashtop Remote Desktop HD. Available from market the price is $4.99. Easy setup and the app works superfast for all purposes. Please hit the thank button if i have show you some solution.
Thanks,
Can u rewind or fast forward?
Thanks works really nice .... is there an option to turn of the display on the streaming server? I was streaming from my laptop and would like to avoid the duplicate display on my laptop.

It is like having your computer desktop on your tab. The problem I have is there is no sound. Check out the devs website faq.. Alot of audio problems. Support sucks imo. The desktop msnagement part works well. I am trying 14 day free trial of playon. It works with netflix, hulu and more.

Audio issues seems to be common there. I have one Win7 computer that has no audio issues with Splashtop.
And another with XP that's normally connected to a tv via HDMI. I get no audio from it in Splashtop unless I plug something into the front speaker/headphone jack. It doesn't even have to be speakers or headphones, just plug in a plug that's not connected to anything, as long as the Realtek software detects it and I select "speakers", I get audio in Splashtop.
Btw, this is a good workaround for Hulu also, if the solution in here doesn't work for you and you don't want to root the 10.1.
Have any of you tried playon it works well for hulu Netflix and streaming any file to your devices my only compliant is u can't skip around at all.
Playon is definetly the better option. Splashtop is good if youre on your own network or have a superb internet connection at both locations. Otherwise play on works a hundred times better due to the compression it uses.

Huh, I didn't even realized Playon app was working. I've had it installed on my htpc for a while, but when I tried the Playon app on my tablet, screen for hulu shows don't have a video to click. CBS shows had a tiny video on top that I can click to go full screen, but hulu shows didn't. Turns out that even without that small video, I can still click that spot and go to a full screen video. That's great, I bought playon before it went subscription.
Yes you can rewind and fast forward.
There is no sound issue if you go to splashtop website. The sound thing is not a issue its a small easy setting that you have to do on your PC. The support for this setting is very easy and step by step with pictures. Please chk that out.
Hey even I don't have any sound issues ... this is one of the best apps for the tablet currently. No performance issue or anything for me, it's now become a android/windows dual tablet

I'm new so I can't post links yet here, but Splashtop support has a workaround that involves changing audio selections and a loopback cable. "There is a special trick to work around the no sound issue on xp. You can loop back headphone out to audio-line-in by an audio cable like this: (i.e. on a notebook, plug in both holes of "headphone" and "microphone")
Also note that for XP, the checkbox for "mute this computer" should be unchecked.
Splashtop is great unless you want to use it to connect to a headless (no monitor) system, then it doesn't work at all. I wanted to use it to connect to my headless Mac Mini for streaming Netflix and stuff, but no go unfortunately.
Heh, Splashtop is awesome, I'm getting LIVE TV on my tablet. I realized that maybe it could stream SageTV (DVR) from my server, I just had to tweak the video in Sagetv from overlay to vmr9 and use the default audio. Non HD streams perfectly, HD isn't quite as smooth but watchable. Here's a couple of pics, one from the today's TDF on Versus non HD channel and another from their HD channel:

Btw, SageTV isn't available anymore. The company was bought by Google last month so maybe we'll be seeing some cool stuff them on Android or Google TV.

Reliable video streaming to Samsung TV?

Has anyone managed to stream video properly from the S4 to a Samsung Smart TV? I can stream video to my UE55ES7000 using the Allshare option in the video app, but the video playback stops every 2-3 seconds and "Loading" appears on the TV screen. This is on short video clips of less than 15 seconds. As far as video streaming functionality goes this is pretty much a waste of time.
The TV is connected to my LAN via ethernet cable, and the S4 connected to a wifi access point which is plugged into the same switch as the TV.
Has anyone got this working acceptably?
same issue with s4 and ES6565, i believe it is because my connection are too slow.
fortunately i get a speed update tommorow, will report back if it solves the issue!

I use Plex (http://www.plexapp.com/).
You install Plex server on your desktop and the client as an app on your Samsung Smart TV and it works pretty well.
Twonky is worth looking at as well.

It will, but you need to install install it on your phone first:

I use Imediashare to stream content to my Samsung tv (not a Smart Tv) using dlna. Does a better job compared to allshare/samumg link.

Ok I just revisited the whole Plex thing (I remember trying it a couple of years ago). I remember uninstalling it last time because it couldn't handle my large music library (85,000 tracks) - whole chunks of the collection were missing after it had completed scanning.
Unfortunately my experience is no better this time. I set up the server, then installed the Plex client on the TV and connected it to the server. I could browse the video content on the server from the TV, but whenever I tried to play back anything it just threw up a blank screen that didn't go away (I waited 5 minutes, which I figured was long enough). Same thing on 2-3 different video files.
I also couldn't figure out any way to use Plex to play back video content from the phone to the TV (which was the whole point of this thread). Setting up the phone as a media server isn't a good solution, as it doesn't have a static IP address (it seems that the Samsung TV Plex client can only connect to servers using a hard-coded IP address). So it looks like I'll be un-installing Plex (again). I'm sure Plex works great in *pple setups but I have to say it's not ready for primetime with Android/Windows users.
So I tried installing iMediaShare, but it doesn't see the TV on the network at all.
I thought this would all be much easier, particularly as I have a Samsung phone as well as a Samsung TV :0(
I just tried the next potential solution, which was the upgraded Allcast app which was released today. This was able to stream a standard def video podcast uninterrupted for a minute (there's a 60 second limit on the trial version of Allcast), but when I tried to stream mp4 HD video which was shot on the phone I got the same problem with the video stopping every few seconds to buffer.
I'm pretty sure that I was able to stream HD videos from the S4 to the TV last summer, but can't remember what I used to do it. Now I'm wondering whether an Android update has introduced the problem - maybe Ice Cream Sandwich was better able to support HD video streaming than Jelly Bean? Any views?

Nexus Player with H265

Hi guys,
finally some weeks ago Nexus Player was officialy released in my country (Italy): low price and official Nexus product suggest me to turn it into my personal media center. I'm using an old i3 notebook running Kodi, but i prefer something more compact, less loudly and with a dedicated remote: Nexus Player seems to have all these features, but searching on the net i'm not sure if it can play H265 smoothly.
Tipically all my media files are on a hd connected to my router and trough samba Kodi search on it: 99% of my files are 720P X265 (tv-show), 1% 1080p X265.
I don't care about 4k.
Someone can confirm that 720P/1080P x265 are smooth on Kodi-Nexus Player?
Thank you so much, sorry for my bad english
BYE!!!
Yes, I am able to stream to kodi and plex 1080p X265 files without issue. Even my larger (+10gb) files stream without buffering. That said, my NP is 5 feet from my router, so there's no interference.
Very good, i have tv on the same room of my router, so no interferences in my case too
Thank you metaljr81, can you tell me what have you installed?
Kodi X86 or ARM? Stock Rom? some tricks?
THanks!!
You need the x86 builds of kodi. I'd recommend joining the Kodi Alpha testing community to get the latest. Or you can do the nightlies from kodi.tv if you prefer the manual method.
CM12.1 here, but not necessary for kodi unless you use external storage for your NP.
Add fusion.tvaddons.ag to your file manager sources for all the good add-ons.

are these files you've downloaded in x265 or ones you've converted yourself? only ask because when I try HEVC files on my nexus player, it shows some pretty nasty artifacting that i don't see on my laptop or desktop. as far as I've seen, the nexus player has to SW decode, so router proximity shouldn't affect the playback on small files should it?

Nexus Player & HDHomerun keep pausing

With the Marshmallow 6.0 update my Nexus Player has started to be able to play TV from the HDHomerun Prime(CableCard) but it will play for about 2-3 minutes and then pause. It does it in both the Live Channels and HD home run app. I have tried with the Nexus Player on WiFi and with an rj45 USB otg adapter. Anyone have any ideas?
I get exactly the same issue
Same here. I have a homerun hd connect and both nexus player and adt-1. Both connected over wifi. Stutters and stops after 3- 5 min. Anyone have luck with the nvidia shield? I don't want to invest more money into Android TV if this problem is going to exist on a more expensive player too. My guess is its due to the uncompressed stream size. Not sure if its the WiFi or processor. Any way to compress and retain near hd quality with the HD home run settings?
Im in your same boat. I use the hdhomerun connect setup over wifi to my nexus player. Live channels and hdhomerun view both scramble and stutter every couple of minutes for a few seconds. Every so often after a while it will freeze.
I have the plus/extend, I am not sure how different the connect is. However this is how I stopped my stuttering:
Open HDhomerun View
Press play/pause 13 times to enter setting page
Check Mpeg2 Hardware Decoder
Check H.264/AVC Hardware Decoder
Set Transcoded to H.264/AVC (HDTC models) to disabled
