Root/Recovery/Kernel/ROM Bounty - Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 General

Well with Note 12.2 recently being released, I'd like to get the bounty asking going? I'll willing to donate. who's with me???
Model#'s SM-P900 (WIFI only) & SM-P905 (LTE version) android 4.4.2
1.)Root (has CF Auto root been achieved?)
2.)Custom Recovery (TWRP Ideally, but Philz will work. Hopefully they will take on this task if enough of us pony up $$)
3.)Custom Kernel (Hopefully BiD Droid will undertake it as he made an awesome custom kernel on Note 10.1 2014) Bounty
4.)Custom ROM (Hopefully ScottsROMs (Clean ROM) will take on this task as well.

It's the inevitable questions people have and/or will have about the note 12.2 since it is new.
I know on note 10.1 2014, it took a long time before people would ask around for people to develop. If you ask (with $$ of course) maybe the developers will come....

You are absolutely correct. I noticed that too. I wouldn't be able to put in full time on something like this but I would be glad to help out where needed. I just retired after developing for 15 years. I actually already cooked up my own ROM and am currently testing it out now

Oh wow...very nice. I'm sure we would welcome anything you can add. I'm just a guy that uses the forums for my devices. I've learned a lot but by no means developer, more user/tester if anything.
I just ordered the Verizon Note 12.2 LTE ) sm-p905,so that is why I was inquiring. I won't get it until Monday or Tuesday unfortunately. I Know more people will likely have the SM-P900 (wifi only)....I try to share anything i acquire with others to increase their user experience.

Hey that's great to hear about the LTE tablet you are getting. Let me know if it runs smoothly. Of course, all of the 12 ' s are basically the same thing, just different components. give me a holler when you get it. I've heard good things about that particular model. I've already removed all of the TouchWiz, and unfortunately removing that would also disable the Magazine ux, however I got that back working now. Take a look at my screen and drawer real estate I got implemented in my test ROM.

FYI, on the 10.1 2014 Edition, the wifi model used the Exynos processor & the LTE version used Snapdragon. That may be the case here also, which might further bifurcate our efforts...

I got root using CF Autoroot on my P900 on the first day I bought it. I would donate to get TWRP for this device as well as donate to the Dev that puts out the first custom ROM. I typically donate to any Dev who puts out a rom that I use.
I'm in for at least 10 dollars for TWRP and 10 for a custom rom.

CF Auto Root was achieved, and is listed in a thread in this forum. All in for Scott to have his way with the ROM!

Awesome on cf auto root gents. I'm in for 10 on twrp and $20/custom ROM (hopefully clean ROM) $20 pledge for Custom kernel (Bid Droid did the note 10.1 2014 so he has the lead in my eyes but I'd be happy with whomever and whatever we can get...

Yup, I gave to ChainFire as well for CF Auto Root. I think it's important to show the devs that we appriciate their hard work, Kudo's are great but nothing speaks louder than cash

Got My G-Note (gujarat India). My experience abt Rooting and Swapping device

Hey friend I am feeling very happy to announce, I got my G-Note just half an hr back
Here i have started post to express my experience to Root Device, and complete swapping from my old device (SGS1)
First of all i have still not paid for my device, but i shall give < 32K
Edit : DP is 32600K, + dealer getting many scheme, and who are have huge sale can get much discount and scheme, so purchase from bigger dealer to get more bargain. Sure you will get betwin 31.5K to 32K
Note : Flip cover not come inside box pack, so you ask seperately, it is complimentery from samsung.
As soon as i have switch On, i got msg there is 0.08MB update available, and i have updated OTA.
I have now baseband version N7000DDKJ3 , ginerbread 2.3.5
Kernel : XXKK3
Just Rooting finished, busybox and superuser pushed smoothly, it took < 5 min to finish total procedure
I have followed procedure to root device is here.
which was started by me earlier last week. I have at presently selected, "I want to just Root " methos in above said post. it was uneventful n finished in 5 min.
Rooting : Who want just to use specific application require root e.g faster fix, Titanium backup. You all need to follow "I want just Root" option, Still stock CWM will works with basic function e.g factory reset, update zip from SD card e.g. you will miss Backup/Restore ROM. for that you go with method 2 on above said post
Call Quality : Very nice compare to SGS, where it was horrible to talk without woodoo control plus
Camera Quality : Much better then SGS
GPS : Very fast, i never seen before this in any device so fast. first time it fixed in side my office in <20sec, accuracy 5mtr
even get fixed in my bedroom, which was never happen with my pevious SGS with fater Fix application. Here i dont req such kind of app to solve it.
Data swap from old android device :
Best job can done with Titanium backup
Here some guide for new user
When you swap application + Data from old device to new, dont restore system stuff. Contact can be managed with import /export, SMS can be done with SMS Backup/Restore applcation. Rest of system setting better you done manually
And restoing rest of thing best option is 'Restore User application with data' scenario.
Almost all application worked smoothly after transfering, except Asphalt 5 (lookin for fix)[edit: Asphalt 6 HD working fine, you can get free from samsung Appl]
Navigation best works. I have tried Sygic Aura, Navigon, N-Drive as well Goole world activated Map.
Native Indian Language support :
I can read Gujarati/Hindi language with stock browser
User's Manual Here
ScreenCapture : Tap and hold the screen with S pen to capture screen Shot
File saved in USB storage/ScreenCapture directory
OR
Seep your Palm across the screen to capture scrennshot

Now stay tuned as i am starting swapping of device, as well planning to CF root to get CWM. I shall update it here as soon as i do finish task.
Thanks for the info
few queries
Which file did you use to root ,
as in your link it says to download relevant file.
and as per your post your firmware is KJ3,but there is no file linked for KJ3
I said, I have used "I want just Root" option, I have not installed CWM, so do not need to select file for kernel
just i have tried in recovery, stock recovery is working with these option
Wipe Data/cache
update Zip from SD card
Rebbot
test band smthing
I dont think i do have need for extra option, as i am usually using stock ROM, so no need to have function to have backup/restore Rom
lets C, but according to chainfire guide you can use KK1
can you please tell us ketan if we can actually in fact use the kk1 kernel...i do not want to brick this *****...please...
I have ask same to ChainFire regarding MobileOdin software, which working on same base, his answer was
"I don't see why not"
still you can confirm with ChainFire
very easily swap all data with TB, will update main post with detail soon
Asphalt 6 HD working fine, you can get free from samsung Appl

CWM giving previlage to Backup/Restore ROM, as well to flash new firmware.
As i have mention, i am always using stock firmware. and keeping backup of my system/user app data with Titanium backup.
So no any more benifit for me to use CWM.
Just rooting is enough for me.
edit : ya some Chain Fire application can be use if you have CFroot, but really i never used it.
As now most the of Note in world are getting 2.3.6 upgrade, any idea when in India we will get official Android 2.3.6 upgrade?
Other thing, as of now My Note is taking around 5-6 hours to get charge, is that normal. I have done 3 recharge cycle.
The battery backup is also very less its around 8-12 hours, though i know its new and i am using more, but this is very less.

Sorry for bumping the old thread..Am experiecing the same problem as the above user mentioned..my note is also taking around 5-6 hours to get charge..am rooted lb2 firmware with lb1 cf kernel..any help guys?
are you charging through usb or AC outlet? are you using original charger/battery? i have seen a thread similar to this problem... dont remember what the final solution was.. just check in Q&A..
the average time to charge ur Note fully from almost zero is 4 hours..
also try charging switched off... gives a proper charge without interference..

Scared to download official ICS - Clear doubts

Are there any chances of me running into sumkind of bricking issue if i upgrade to ICS ? - I have always been on stock GB firmware and never messed around.
Also, is it so tht OTA updates are safe than kies coz kies will wipe complete data to install ICS and tht will inturn introduce wipe bug ?
PS: I will be downloading Indian official ICS.
In your situation it is highly unlikely you will brick your device since you are coming from stock and have never installed any other ROM
I respectfully disagree, I know there's a lot of talk about weather the ics stock roms are actually dangerous or not, but having seen brick after brick from several different scenarios, from people who've been on custom roms and upgrades, to brand new owners who've done one simple reset, and even a couple who just copied a movie across to their sd card. Unfortunately the casualties are not limited to being routed or with cwm.
There are works in progress jointly with a google coder on the matter of a possible fix, but at present still the only fix is a mobo replacement, or to bypass the problematic section of mmc.
I would highly recommend reading this thread

If it's official I Dunn see any risk installing it. If it really bricks your device I'm sure Samsung will take full responsibility of it since it's official anyway.

the only safe ICS at the moment is CM9 ,or ROMs based on CM9 Kernel
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1627854
if you don't use samsung apps then cm9 is a better all rounder than official ICS ,plus it's safe.
Wondering the same thing...
I have non-rooted German Note, just found out about the official ICS release today (for some reason I never get Sammy alerts) checked for updates and it's there but thought I should come here and check to see if everyone was happy with it...lo and behold not only is it buggy but it can brick your phone???
Damn, after all the hurrying up and waiting this is what they release?
I don't know if the OTA update for non-rooted German Notes has faired any better than other combinations but I've cancelled the update twice as I've read through various threads here, just too scared...
Mate, I'd wait for a further kernel.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
If you never flashed any custom ROM, and you are using Kies or OTA upgrade, then the risk is that if something happens, you go to a Samsung Service Centre, and they repair it for you for free. It may take a couple of days for the Service Center to replace the motherboard - which is a hassle.
If that is your case, just flash it
I'd advice that you should NOT perform a factory reset after upgrading to ICS, (unless you don't mind bricking your phone and leave it in the Service Center for a couple of days).
Cheers

I'm almost exactly like op. I'm rooted but still on stock gb.
Like the others, I will wait until they develop a fool proof way to upgrade to ICS. It's really not worth it right now to even try it imo. Bricking my note would really suck.

If you would like a little more peace of mind, you could always install a kernel built from patched Samsung ICS source. So far Franco and SpeedMod seem to be relatively safe. However, there has been one rather unscrupulous report of a brick while on Franco kernel. Because of the nature of the claim though, I, as well as Entropy and others are questioning the validity of the claim. Nevertheless, even though the patched source kernels are supposed to be "safer", only time will tell. Your best bet would have been to avoid the update until after a confirmed safe method of upgrading.

well in my case i guess i'm just lucky. i already have flashed 3 ics, from stock gb lc1, namely: full repack (ics leak) by chainfire through mobile odin pro, lpy germany (dbtel) non wipe with cf-root lpy also through mobile odin pro, and lpf (taiwan) using pc odin (full iwpe) and i really like these ics releases than gb due to its smoothness and my battery lasts longer. the only thing that bothers me is that voodoo louder has only +3 db in its maximum whereas it is up to +10.5 db in gb and you could really tell the difference (i am using senheisser hd 449) and i cannot customize boot animation. i'm rooted but cannot modify the bootanimation using the same method as in gb, i.e., push the file in \system\media even if permissions are checked.
Updated my GT-7000 to ICS via OTA .
Running fine. Definitely better than GB.
Wants to do factory reset and data wipe but not enough courage to do that .
Hope this will fix soon.
Cheers
Well i did update and wiped to factory setting but no dead phone. .. Even on gb i had wiped it for many tines but my phone is still safe
Just a word of advice..
if you have Official ICS updates already on your phone, you can always go to a Samsung Center near your place and just have them be the one to flash and upgrade your device.
Why worry for something where you can just let the local subsidiary of sammy (on your area) do it for you?
For peace of mind and confidence, I should say.
This is my initial 9 hours with official ICS updated through OTA. After several time failed with Kies. Previously running GB 2.3.6 No root history.
So far so good.

Rumor: Note II to receive Android 4.4.2 KitKat by March end

Just has been posted by SamMobile.
Personally, I think it's a very optimistic rumor. We'll see.
SamMobile said:
The Galaxy Note 3 has started receiving the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update while we’ve seen a couple of leaked firmware for the Galaxy S4, and that has naturally made owners of the company’s 2012 flagships wonder when it will be their turn to hop on to the latest version of the OS. A rumor late last year suggested that the Galaxy S III and Note II would be updated to Android 4.4.2 before April this year, and now, according to insider info received by Android Geeks, both device should begin receiving the update by the end of March.
Now, many will probably just shake their heads at that, but unlike the Android 4.3 update, which took months to arrive on the S III and Note II, the KitKat update does have a high chance of making its way to users by March. Both variants of the Galaxy Note 3 were updated to KitKat in record time (if only because KitKat isn’t exactly a major update), and while the update’s only just out in a couple of countries at the moment, Samsung should be able to kick off the rollout for the S III and Note II rather quickly as well. At least, that’s what we hope, but we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

S3 and Note 2 were not so lucky with updates.
Samsung is acting like HTC....
When HTC devices sold a lot, they didn't care too much of updates.... now that they lost everything, they care of and update HTC ONE.
S3 and Note 2 are really popular.... and received a crappy update after an year to 4.3.........
S4 and Note 3 are not selling as expected....and they care about updating them a lot.
I hope that KK won't be the last official update for my Note 2.
Just saw that, hope it's true and we can get an TW based custom ROM from that.
Actually Samsung is a group of stupids......Egypt...Saudi Arabia...Israel..didnt't receive the update till now....we are waiting the update since March 2013...Samsung is really funny
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk
I guess/hope samsung wilk push updates before end of Feb for Note 2.
Because..
1. Kitkat is not so big different update than 4.3
2. It was said that Note 3 will recieve update at feb. But it recieved almost one month before.
3. Samsung wants to get rid of updates before march 23...or ..realese of Galaxy s5
4. If no; we have many devs who are so talented that they will port Note 3 update to Note 2
So Something Better and Surprising is Come soon!!!

Why there is so much fuss about kitkat... 50% of those who upgraded to 4.3 wanted to downgrade ...
With every upgrade Google/Samsung heading towards the close architecture
True that, I will not update even if it comes out tomorrow. Still waiting for a way to downgrade and go back to 4.2.1 bootloader.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
I don't understand what all the fuss is about.... The 4.3 upgrade is, IMHO the best upgrade I ever had, because for the 1st time after an upgrade my phone is smoother! Not only on SGNII, but on any smartphone I had!
Basicaly, you have 2 types of people. One, that don't want root, and they should update via OTA or KIES, and they shouldn't mind KNOX. Why would they - they're stock! And second that want root and/or custom ROMs - they have the option of flashing MJ5 kernel and any ROM they want.
So I really don't understand your complaints...
Potentially stupid question... but will they be able to push the 4.4 update without doing the 4.3 update first?
I'm in South Africa, and we still haven't heard a whisper about getting 4.3. I had a feeling that the network operators here would just be smart/lazy and wait for the 4.4 update and then push everything at the same time... but I don't know if that's possible?

Like you said , there are 2 kind of people. The ones that are just fine without root or custom roms. Or people who like to experiment. Note2 has incredible potential which is cut off by the stock firmware and its new bootloader. Nothing else, I'm just mad at myself I didn't do the proper research before updating. ...

The battery drain on it is going to be bad...Google services are quite the battery drainers there.

i have a friend with note3 and kitkat flashed.
impressions from him:
- great battery life (with data on, bluetooth on and gps on ~ 50% usage/day)
- improved a lot ram management

Unfortunately there's not just two types.
I need to use a stock rom and kernel, and toggle root on and off on the fly because of an app called skygo which has been a great pain in the ass for many months.
So, even though I want to update, I'm stuck on 4.1.2 because I can't risk upgrading and realising it doesn't work properly to toggle root on 4.3.. with no way to downgrade.
Samsung, being the twats they are, decided to include a new bootloader meaning I need a custom kernel to upgrade while staying on the 4.1.2 bootloader. With a custom kernel, the skygo app I need won't work.
So even though I want to upgrade, I can't risk it with no chance of downgrading.
It sucks
You can keep the 4.1.2 bootloader and flash 4.3 rom with wifi fix, everything is working fine.

He could but then the SkyGo app wouldnt work as it checks the kernel to make sire its not a custom one.

ATT SM900MJ5 rooting experience

After attempting to root my ATT Note3 I have learn a few things. Hopefully my experience will help out some of you, and give new ideas to dev team.
1. ODIN. I realize the updated odin looks diff than the previous software. Firmware on Note3 has so much info that it needed to seperate everything. Plus Sammie might think that this will makes it harder to root the phone. I think they just made it easier
Here are my reason. After I got my phone stuck on bootload. It seem almost impossible to get the stock MJ5 firmware for the ATT. I spent so many hours on trying all kind of method on XDA forum. nothing seems to work out. At this point, I had nothing else to loose but my phone. So I decided give another manufacture firmware a shot. I downloaded TMobile stock firmware. Open ODIN, and loaded all the require MD5 into their perspective place. Hit start, and able to get my phone to loaded again. I had to use T-mobile sim card. Don't know what happen, but apperently, as long that you have all the correct data, ODIN will do the rest. I wanted to test this out further, so I download kitkat for tmobile. (i had to use one click.exe) because the other files doesn't have the MD5. I ran the ODIN that came with the file, but this time I use the Kitkat for ATT instead of TMOBILE. One click.exe install the ATT kitkat on my phone just fine. And now, after 2 days of downloading, and reading rooting article from XDA, droidview, etc. I think we can flash any rom using ODIN as long that you have all 5 MD5 files.Hope this help. I think i'm just lucky.
thanks for this...a lot people saying rooting is easy, but I don't think it is (at least compare to other devices)
Post video of process I'm curious to see this working as well as files needed, I have an AT&T note 3 and want to install T-mobile Rom.

You can root it using KINGO, but you can not do sim unlock using REGIONAL UNLOCK trick.

I don't quite understand your claim on rooting - from what you describe you have just returned to stock UNROOTED firmware.
It would have been VERY interesting what bootloader you had while on TMobile ROM - the original locked MJ5 from AT&T or some TMobile (unlocked) bootloader.
And you are now on KitKat AT&T version, so maybe no downgrade will be possible.

I wouldn't use Kingo because we don't really know how they achieve root, and install SU on your phone. From my experience with Kingo when I softbrick the note 3. In my opinion, I think Kingo was the main source for softbrick. At the time, everything on my phone seems to check out ok. (recovery booting, safestrap, and chainfire SU) yet the phone wouldn't boot. So I think with unstable root access will affect your SU, and in my case it couldn't load safestrap, or finish the rest of the boot. My other reason is" I've heard Kingo sent ur call data to China". If I don't let my own apps collect info w/o my knowledge. I'm sure as hell, not gonna let an app send my data without me knowing.

My knox still at 0x0. Like I said, for inexperience rooter like myself. I recommended using Odin for all you trouble since it verify your tar.md5 when you load it for flashing. Heimdall is also a good way of doing things, if you're good with ADB, and understand Linux. I use Odin whenever I can, unless the developer for a Roms, theme, install, etc require a different method.
We take risk when we root our phone, but that doesn't mean you can't choose the process that will minimize your risk. "Rooting is like having safe sex" . You take that .01% risk with a condom and look at all those babies in adoption. The same goes with your phone, and I can tell you there quite alot of Brickster out looking for help.

I've had my brand new Note 3 for 5 days now. I rooted with Kingo...with no problems and then used safestrap for recovery. Sure when it comes to rooting there is always a risk but for anyone to say Kingo can't be used. .. that isn't true. I did my own research and used it

Need advice: ROM or just Debloat?

Here's my deal: Someone handed me their S4 after a phone of mine got run over by a car. I've been using it for a couple of months with the stock Sprint firmware, and have been happy enough. However, compared to my old EVO LTE, I'm finding that the UI lags sometimes.
Since the EVO LTE is (I think, correct me if wrong) a generation older in hardware, I'm sure the S4 isn't living up to its potential with the stock software.
So here's my dilemma. I like the idea of starting over with a custom ROM, but I also sort of like some of the features in the stock software. The step tracker, for example, has replaced my fitbit. And the other day I was in a waiting room by myself and used the IR remote to identify the TV and change channels. That's pretty darned cool, and something I'd miss with a stripped rom.
Am I better off debloating the stock rom by rooting and removing apps I don't want/need, or should I start over with a lighter-weigh custom rom? On that note, IS there even a current light weight custom that retains most of the functionality of the original? I found some in my searches that sound promising, but it seems that since this device is getting on in its years there are some custom projects that got abandoned. Currently running stock Kitkat, I've been avoiding the system update to Lollipop since my brother's phone had problems after an OTA update to it on his LG phone. I could deal with Kitkat, (I haven't seen anything in 5 that blows me away versus what I have) but I definitely don't want to go back to an earlier version of the OS.
Advice/suggestions are welcome!
i used same sprint rom with lots of bloatware .. i found rom was too slow .. battery draining fast .. although stock rom has support every thing specially good for device hardware .. but samsung made touchwiz full of crap ..
so i couldnt survive with stock rom & just rooted my phone & got custom rom
Currently i am running Dirty Unicorn 5.1.1 ... its too stable too fast with good battery life
hope this will help you !

thanks for the input fadyrox!
Does it have the stock support for the pedometer and IR remote? I know that usually the fastest and leanest roms ditch all the extras that aren't essential, but I'd like to still make use of the bells & whistles of the hardware!
Everthing is workable on 5.1.1 rom .. but rom must be stable -- like what i am using is dirty unicorn which is stable & support all sensors & hardware stuff !
you just need to search to get exact what you want with device like stock !
Would your unicorn work on my sprint s4 SPH-L720T. What version and we're is link?
Mind you I have never flashed a custom ROM before because I have never even had a device that had support for it before.
However after 3 days of owning this thing I am fully convinced the hardware is being gimped and held back somehow somewhere in the software end. Plus the battery drains like a mad man at 1% every 30 seconds or so...
First thing I'll do is flash twrp I supose? Can that brick it?
If you're looking for a stock based ROM, I suggest Wicked X - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3115583

What all does the aurora kernel offer? Obviously it works with the wicked rom...
Any chance you would be willing to throw together a quick compilation of steps for installing wicked rom with aurora kernel (assuming aurora kernel has overclocking ). Also assuming that I am starting completely fresh with all stock software on this phone.
I think I understand most of what I need to do for installing twrp, backup, flash rom and kernel but I don't want to **** it up. Just want some software that runs more stable than the stock does and oc option with lots of options to recover everything back to stock if need be. Really want to have all my bases covered this time before even trying anything.
Oh any chance wicked rom has internal option to set SD card as primary for both storage and install with ability to select each separately. My onetouch had that and I loved it....

No, it doesn't have overclocking (No Touchwiz Lollipop kernel for this device has that feature yet) . Install instructions are in the first post, the Aurora Kernel is included in the ROM, and in post #3. All features are listed in the first post of the thread.
If anything gets messed up you can just Odin stock or restore your back up.
