Horrible service? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can anyone explain what could be causing such terrible service. I have verizon and live in an area where I should get constant 4g LTE. Could a new Sim card help?

Everything is stock. Just rooted with custom recovery for xposed framework.

It's doesn't look like stock to me. LG issued a GP edition of the G2?
The cell indicator isn't stock, the screenshot notification isn't stock. At least not LG stock.

Are you not getting constant 4G? Typically manufacturers like to display an optimistic view of signal where AOSP doesn't. Else try a new sim.

I drop 4g and 3g all the time. Like sometimes I will go to send a text. Phone says I have strong LTE server when I send the text LTE drops the text fails then I will drop to one bar of 3g.

Again all of this is done using xposed framework with g2xposed and tweakbox. I'm on stock ROM and kernel and 11A firmware.

Then as suggested above, go to your carrier store and try a new sim?

Will do. Do you know why a Sim could affect my service. I just really hope my hardware isn't faulty.

Straight talk apn

I currently have a AT&T s4 using ST.
My current apn is tfdata that can be found on the ST website. Is this the best one?
My phone says 4G but its.obviously not 4G speeds.
Also my simcard was the original big one and I cut it so could this be a problem of my slow speeds?
Thanks

the most you will get is HSPA which shows 4G icon, the only Straight Talk that gets LTE is the Galaxy S3 and its on Sprint Network. The max throughput is around 7MBPS down and around 1MBPS up.

Does my battery life look normal to you?

I am curious if this battery drainage looks normal to you.
Thanks for the help.

The fact that none of your screen shots show a signal is a bad thing for battery life.

That's a condition of WiFi Calling for T-Mobile with WiFi as the "preferred" method of connectivity. No need for concern there.

Maybe WiFi calling is draining your battery life. Its still hard to see where you are at % wise. Where was the battery at with 1.4 hours of screen time?

That seems pretty good.. 2 hours of screen time down on 20%.. that means you would possibly get 10 hours of screen time before it dies...

It would be great if there weren't only 2. You have one, the other is for a child.
You can download more themes in the form of .apks. I think there's a link of a collection somewhere on this forum.

I've found loads of themes on XDA. But they only change the icons and the wallpaper. Nothing special.

Factory reset didn't fix things...
You running the original stock ROM?
Sent from my LG-D800 using Tapatalk
I have 4G and 4G LTE depending on coverage. So if you see 4G only that means you are getting HSPA/HSPA+ signal.
You can verify that with one of the dozen signal related apps on Play store. I see 4G icon time to time when LTE signal is not present.
I hate AT&T for removing the option to select radio.

Turned out to be a bad SIM. Got it exchanged, problem resolved.

Boost signal strength?

So I have the vs980 version and for some reason despite Verizon's "amazing service" I find I get a crap ton of failed sent text messages. I live on long island and should have 4g coverage almost everywhere but find I get less than 3g a lot of the time. Is there anything I could do to boost signal strength.
I see custom Roms say they can improve signal. How do they go about doing this?

I am also on LI and I travel throughout the Island all day each day and outside of a few towns I always see a solid 4G signal. In about what area are you having issues and only getting a 3G signal. The issue maybe the phone and not the Rom.
Pretty much anywhere to be honest. Think I should take the phone into verizon and see about it? I am usually in Brookhaven and get crap service.

Different kernels do signal boosting job after root...
But first try factory rest...
If problem resist and u are out of warranty..
Then try using dorimanx's kernel stock...
Do some research on kernels first...
Hope it helps.....
Did you get a new sim card with phone or just transfer your old one? I ask because I tried to use my old one when I upgraded and it did not go so well... Constant dropped 4g and bad battery drain. Switched to a new Sim card and it was like I got a new phone. No 4g drops since. I know it seems like a simple thing but it really made a bug difference for me.

It wouldn't hurt. If you tell your provider you think it's faulty they will normally just give you a new one. If not they are only a couple dollars I think...
