App Problem - Java for Android App Development

*Not sure if in proper section, move if need be*
Noob here so try to dumb things down for me!
Ok, so I followed this tut HERE.
I was able to debug it to my android for testing and it worked. So I exported it as .apk and uploaded it to 4shared.com.
Now my problem is, after downloading to my phone, I went to [Install Package] and it said "Application not installed"
What would be the problem and how would I go about fixing it?
Thanks in advance
~Brine

How are you trying to install the app:
connect your device using USB cable to the comp. and run
Code:
adb install <path_to_apk>
on a terminal
Make sure that the app is not already installed as there could be certificate conflicts it a debug version is installed already. If some version is already installed, just uninstall it and try.
Also try enabling Settings > Security > Unknown sources (turn it off after you are done if you are not sure)

help cant install apk files anymore

plz help
I have an rooted x10a(r23) and Iv been installing apk files by transferring them to my sd card.
Iv been using Astor to install them. Also i have non market apps checked in my settings.
Today i tried to install an apk file using Astro, but it wouldn't let me. it just goes back to an blank screen and then back to the install screen.
Does any one know how to fix this?
Happened to me after I rooted my phone. But not immediately after rooting.I removed all the unnecessary apps and stopped all the third party services using startup cleaner, dunno if that did it, but I am able to install apks again.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App

This point is selected but since today it is not more possible to install apk files.
Installation only direct from the market is possible.
Maybe a bug in the root???
I replaced the rooted R23 through R2BA0024 (not rooted) and have now no problem to install apk files.

Look up apps2sd its custom for 2.2 froyo but there is a work around for earlier versions, research lots before you do anything coz you can mess your phone settings if you don't know what your doing.

Hey....thats a lot for information.
What application are u trying to install. from where are u downloading?
If it is a Non-Market app, you need to have the unknown sources button checked in apps settings

i downloaded some apps from getandroidstuf.com...and none of the app seems can be installed to the phone..i already checked the unknown sources button..but seems the same error..
In the settings go to applications/programs and check the unknown sources checkbox. When installing from some other place then marketplace this should be checked.
Hey giggsy_Lel,
Try downloading your files to the computer
connect the phone in HTC Sync mode.
Now try to run the apk files
Through sync it will install it in the phone...
check whether this works.
also are u getting this error for applications or just the ones downloaded from getandroidstuf?? high chances for the package to be corrupted.
PM me the file name, will download in my phone to check if that is working good on ma end
cheers

installation issues with apks

I can install from the market okay but if I have a .apk on my sd card I want to install I get the message that it cannot. Tells me the file cannot be viewed from here. Here is the exact words:
sdcard/download/amazon_appstore-release.apk
application/vnd.android.package-archive does not work.
Any ideas? This is getting frustrating and my searches have not turned out anything worthwhile.
Have checked the option for installing 3rd party apps in settings

You could always try using adb to push the package from your PC to the phone while connected with USB debugging enabled.
adb install <package_file_name>

[Q] Kindle Fire-Market (com.android.vending) has stopped...

Like many of you, I'm trying to install the Android Market. Every time I launch the Market, I get the following error:
Sorry
The application Market (com.android.vending) has stopped unexpectedly. Please retry.
I've searched this forum and not really found anything that seems to match my problem. I found some things that are close (people for whom it work intermittently), but not exactly the same.
Does anyone have a solution or at least something that I can try?
Mike

To be sure that you are installing the android market correctly and have all of the correct files you should follow my guide it is linked to easy to follow video tutorials to be sure that you are doing everything the same exact way with no problems. If I helped hit that thanks button please, here is the link to my guide:

That happened to my friend's KF when I incorrectly rooted & installed Market. What I did was unroot it to clean up the files then redo the rooting process & Market installation. It works now, no more error messages. Make sure to follow all the steps in sequence. Good luck!

There really is no need for all of that, but I will not knock something that worked for you so he is free to try whatever he wants...

I think I've followed the video more than once (although I could not find the link for Rootchecker that was mentioned).
I have Burritoroot, Superuser and Root Explorer installed.
Can you send me the link to instructions fro installing root checker? Once I've got that installed, I'll pick up from where Rootchecker is in the video.
IN the video you mention that the link is in the "Video Description" ,but I guess I don't know what that means.
Thanks, Mike
I'm not sure if this is an issue or not, but even though device manager reports that it sees and "Android Phone\Android Composite ADB Interface", When I open "Computer, it only shows "Removable Disk (G". When I try to click on it, it asks me to "Insert a disk..."
Any ideas as to why I'm seeing this and do you think this is part of my problem?
I still haven't resolved my issue with the kindle not showing up on my PC, but after going back, re-watching the root and android market videos, I was able to get market installed and working.
Thanks so much [-_-] for all your hard work.
Transfer market to /system/app then change permission to match the other apps in that folder. Then install and reboot.

Well, I have the DEB nightly of 2-19-14 of OmniRom
I have unknown sources checked
But when I try to install the Google Voice apk, I get the message : Cant open file.
Also, would you like the error message for GApps as well. or do you just want the apk troubles ?

I don't see any DEB nightly on Omnilog. Only FLO version is available.
Are you running an unofficial version?
Its an official build right from the OmniRom website.
Heres the link to the DEB...

1) How did you get the apk on your phone?
2) What file manager are u using to install the apk?
I downloaded it directly to the tablet. & I went into the Downloads folder & just taped on it to install. Then I also copied it over to the tablet under OSX. after deleting it off the tablet the first time.

Again, which file manager are you using to navigate to your download folder and install the apk?
There is no file Manager on the system. Nor do I have GApps installed. And when I try to install any thing, it wont install. & since I dont have the Play store, I cant go through that to download/install any thing either… What a mess
- Btw. Thanks for taking an interest & trying to help me with this.
Your issue maybe that you don't have gapps installed and it's missing the installer files to install the apk

Does 'adb install' from a PC work?
Many of the gapps APKs are required to be in /system so they can't be installed via 'adb install' or any other method. Maybe the APK you're trying to install has a dependency on gapps.
Google apps, as well as apps that rely on the APIs they expose (mapping is common) are a tightly intertwined mess. You'll get seemingly silent install errors because you're missing libraries, for example. Trying to restore apps through Titanium Backup will similarly fail if they are missing required libraries.
They generally will show up though logcat if you look carefully. Resolving the issue requires the sufficiently complete and self-consistent (sub-) set of Gapps.

Yeah. What a lot of people don't realize is how many apps that are out there which aren't part of gapps, but require the presence of the core gapps components.
