Finally, official 4.3 coming to Saudi Arabia - Galaxy Note II General

Hello everybody ,
As many people are waiting from months for this,
I just suddenly fount it coming
The Android 4.3 is now in SA, and I think the skipped countries will get it also
Downloading right now ... :good:

I too was excited when I could upgrade to it.
Now I wish I could downgrade.
I hope your experience is more pleasant.

That's good to hear, I haven't read many positive reviews so far.
My issues I've encountered:
Phone crashing hard every 24 hours. This happened for the first 5 days - it'd crash so hard that someone else could ring my phone, they'd hear a ringtone (i.e. the modem was still working) but the phone wouldn't ring. The lock screen would show the time the phone had crashed. So it might be 8:30pm, but the lock screen would still show 6:23pm.
This issue seems to have resolved itself recently, the only thing I did was to clean the contacts of the SIM and SD Card. I'm doubtful that made any difference, but I haven't had the same issue since.
Music skipping while screen off Lots of people report this with 4.3. It only happens once every 5 minutes, so it's not a major, but it's still annoying while you're out walking/jogging etc. Just a little stutter. This never happened with 4.1.2
GPS will crash, requiring a reboot This has been happening quite often. My "fix" for this now is to leave GPS turned off via the widget and only turn it on when needed. Not a major hassle, but I could leave the GPS on all the time with 4.1.2. With 4.3 if I do that, at some stage the GPS will crash, the GPS icon will show it's locked on but no programs that use the GPS can get any reading from it. As I said, reboot fixes it.
Contacts App Slow & Takes CPU A right pain in the arse this one. I fixed it, at least I think I have, by clearing the data of the Contacts app. You don't lose anything except locally stored numbers (who uses those?) because everything resyncs from online accounts. This seems to have helped stop the Contacts app being as laggy as it was, though I only did this recently so I'm not sure if it's a long term fix.
Overall the phone is more sluggish. Sometimes it'll take 10-15 seconds to turn on when I press the power button, that is for the lock screen to appear. Answering a phone call can take 2 slides, the first one won't register.
I didn't do a factory reset because, as I've stated elsewhere, I think this is a myth that doesn't really solve anything, it just appears to.
Anyway, I hope your experiences are different. If I could go back to 4.1.2 easily I would, but of course once you go forward there's no going back.
Or I could install a "Custom ROM" hacked together by some kiddie, then I get to spend all my days posting "Which ROM has the best battery life, I've flashed 16 different ones but I can't decide, hurp-a-durp"

"I didn't do a factory reset because"
yeah complaining without factory rest is totally dumb :silly: , do full wipe and try again
BTW i never had any crash on 4.3 not even with the leaked version

Why does a factory reset work?
Oh, you have NO IDEA and are just repeating like a sheep what everyone else says?
Yea, that's totally dumb.

Flashing firmware asian to european- for ppl who have flashed

Hey guys in my earlier thread some ppl told me that i could update from asian firmware to european firmware. I would like to knw if there would be any problems by doing that, and would like to know ur experiece after flashing.. Thanx for ur replies. I don mind waiting an extra month for asian firmware release if u feel flashing can be problematic, if not i'll b happy to flash.
Ps: I knw a thread like this is available but there are no conclusive answers there. Thanx.
I like to know too. I hope no issue here other than losing the Asian keyboards. I assume one could still get a third party keyboard for say, chinese characters input.
Ya i recieved a reply in hardware zone forum, ppl have upgraded their firmwares from dd or dx to xx, xw (european). No problems were found, infact performance increased a little bit. One of the guys told me not to update cause firmwares released in europe tend to be buggy like beta versions, only final versions are released in asia and other places thats why updates are few. So if i were u i'd wait for firmware to release in my region.. Wat's u take on this? Do u still wanna flash ur phone or do u wanna wait a month extra......
I personally haven't had any issues with the euro fw to speak of. Like doomsdaycs mentioned I definitely experienced performance increase and even more once i installed the modaco rom. I ran the latest JG3 for a few days and it was great then i wanted the modaco rom so I reflashed with JG1 and it's still had no problems. Hope that helps...

That's utter rubbish.
Went from APAC to Euro firmwares, and never looked back.
Let me ask you guys who have gone over to the European firmware a few questions:
1) Has it fixed the 3G/wifi connection problem? (I hope you do not dispute that there is problem )
2) Has the lags/pause gone away? Or just minimized?
3) Has your GPS started to work accurately yet?
4) Does your email still takes ages to load? Or just become less slow?
5) Does the music playing still pause/freeze once in a while?
6) Anyone still able to install stuffs like Chinese keyboards from the Android market place after adopting the Europe firmware?
7) Do you have problem with the market place like what these people say?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7232231#post7232231
Thanks for sharing.
Let me ask you guys who have gone over to the European firmware a few questions:
1) Has it fixed the 3G/wifi connection problem? (I hope you do not dispute that there is problem )
Answer: You need to create a new APN in order to use the 3G network. As for WIFI.. I am able to connect to any WIFI as long as I have the password.
2) Has the lags/pause gone away? Or just minimized?
Answer: Kinda but you will still experience it even with the JG5 firmware.. rumor has it that samsung will release an official fix for this on the end of july but there is no official word from samsung.. all we can do is cross our fingers and hope or best alternative.. use modaco's fix.
3) Has your GPS started to work accurately yet?
Answer: Yup, compared to the stock firmware, it is able to identify my location within a 5 meter radius.
** upgrade to the latest google maps version.
4) Does your email still takes ages to load? Or just become less slow?
Answer: Google.. first time setup.. yes. But now, depending on your location and signal strength.. takes about 8 - 15 seconds.. longer with 2 bars on my phone.. about 30 seconds or so. [GMAIL]
5) Does the music playing still pause/freeze once in a while?
Answer: When I am playing Let's Golf with very low volume then listening to music using the default player at level 6 - 7 volume. I do experience it sometime..
6) Anyone still able to install stuffs like Chinese keyboards from the Android market place after adopting the Europe firmware?
Answer: I am able to install Google Pinyin.. the qwerty keyboard still shows ABC but when you press each letter.. it will show the chinese character equivalent.
7) Do you have problem with the market place like what these people say?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7232231#post7232231
Answer: Weird case, never experienced that issue on my SGS after doing 3 firmware upgrades.
And no, I haven't rooted my phone yet.. hoping to hear from samsung by the month's end to know if they finally release a firmware fix for the memory transfer issue [NAND].

I second that.
The ASIAN version to be honest.. is full of crap from the TELCO's which renders the phone perform slower.. and I'd like to add that, my phone starts and loads faster now without the singtel crap.
Thank you M3keni. I'm glad it looks so positive.

You are welcome bro.
Disclaimer though.. other users may have a different take on my experience with my SGS.. hehehe.
..seriously, samsung should fix the NAND issue with an update firmware soon.
..but we have hardworking developers to go to for MODS.. iLike!
Before you decide and buy the SGS, visit your nearest telco showroom to try and feel the phone. Will help in your decision.
Have a good weekend!
Thanx for the info i'll be flashing madoco rom too.. cheers..
I'm waiting for the Froyo that's supposedly 3 times faster than iPhone 3GS. As it is now, it is a lot slower than even iPhone 3G. The black screen and long pauses is beginning to get to me.
I'm hesitant to root now as I'm uncertain about the hardware aspect of GPS, and my fear that the process might not be fully reversible, hence voiding the warranty potentially.
i have a question that how to upgrade the firmware from Asian to EUR use kies without root??????
i want to change that but have no idea, thx
yes please, even I need to know how to flash my Singtel FW to the eu version like the friends above mentioned. Mainly I want to do this without rooting...!!
And once after upgrading, will it allow me to upgrade to froyo when it is officially released!!! via Kies or OTA.

Can you suggest the fw number of the official euro firmware that you are using now so I can install as well.
No problem at all dude.
Flashed from DDJF3 to XWJG1 (Indian to some European country)... JF3 had major issues... JG1 is good... not great though. Most of the problems of the stock firmware were resolved by Modaco's Custom ROM... try it out!
You guys should give the new firmware JM1 or JM2 a twirl. The difference is night and day...no joke..and that's before root and any modifications.
@netboyhk I initially used this as my starting point http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpWcM44On88
Note that in the video he says it HAS to be on a specific com port....ignore that part. It's all relative to how many usb ports u have and how many devices plugged in etc etc. From my experiences it's REALLY hard to brick this phone but your mileage may vary
I think you mean JM1 and JM2 - unless Samsung's moving faster on firmware than I thought...

I can confirm that it IS FULLY REVERSIBLE. You just need to reformat using ODIN while putting an official ROM.

2.2 Update approved by Three in the UK

According to their blog on the Galaxy S, the 3 network in the UK have approved Froyo and are waiting for Samsung to upload it for distribution through Kies.

because then we will have an official froyo for our phones lol...if a galaxy s official version comes out for hte US, it means captivate isnt too far behind
just tried and no luck yet
I would quite like to flash the official one for my Galaxy S on 3...currently running JPM with Voodoo pre6 flashed via ODIN. How would I go about getting back the stock firmware so that I can update via KIES?
I was speaking to my brother today, we both have Galaxy's on T-Mobile but he lost his and had to claim another through insurance. He got it about 4 days ago and he has said his is running JP2 Froyo, this is how the phone was released from T-Mobile so Froyo can't be that far behind for us all now

It is more likely that you missed a step or two. So far, everyone seems to report improved performance varying from marginal to great. Try doing factory reset...as that seems to be standard procedure to go through after flashing a new firmware.

Not really, i had 3 goes before i decided to give up and followed the guides to the letter (inlcuding a factory reset before and after)
It is just that comparing to JM9 with voodoo, JPO is not that efficient.
The best results I got was with Doc's JPO Rom with ext4 lag fix, but battery performance was not that good (0.6% per hour idle vs 0.1% per hour on JM9) so I reverted back to JM9
I do have about 120 apps though so this may be affecting performance.

Calling it a Day!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just to air my frustrations about the I9000. I have had this handset since it was released and its time to get rid.
I have been very patient with firmware updates and such....and it packs some brilliant hardware in theory but it just does not cut the mustard. I had the I8000 (Omnia 2) prior to this phone and it was exactly the same (except windows OS) because every time samsung brought out a new firmware it was still littered with bugs.
I know people Root their Handsets (I have done all the hacks and speedmods, etc) and rave about the speeds customisation, etc but i still get FCs and apps resetting themselves to default every so often with or without modding.
For example today i had no music showing in my music player but thought oh well....wait......wait. It appeared 10 minutes later. Recorded a video...or so i thought but nothing was saved. The Ringtones i have set are gone and i have to go through everything from scratch. This happens randomly maybe a few times a month. There is always something wrong somewhere and then i have to boot the I9000 down.....Everything is then fine for a while but always raises its ugly head at some point........WTF.
Now i hate to say it but i find myself drawn more and more to the iphone but feel like cutting my hands off or committing suicide for thinking these thoughts...they are blasphemous. I cannot help it though because i have grown to dislike the galaxy s and do not know any other handset that reviews say are better. Maybe its just the Android OS being generic and having to cater for a million different models of handset but surely then this is samsungs fault for not incorporating universal fixes.
If you read this and are deciding to get the galaxy s i would advise not to..... wait for something better now.
Well I have to say that JPY is a very decent firmware. I didn't have any major issue with it, it's fast (without any kind of lag fix) and it's stable . I rooted my SGS and got rid off Samsung's bloatware and I really like the phone now.
There's only two things that bother me, but it has nothing to do with software: I hate speaker position (international version) and also lack of flash/light.
So maybe you should buy a W7 or Symbian phone.
I don't know what to say to you, except you're doing something wrong if you're getting so many FC.
About the ringtones: I've experienced this problem when I deleted thumbnails from gallery (DCIM/thumbnails), at least I think it was because of that. Rebooted the phone and didn't delete the folder since then and never got the issue again.
So I would still recommend this phone, but it still depends on the person who gets it and for how much money.
Peace out.
dude ur phone has a virus. mine had one too exactly the same symptoms as your phone. did a reflash of 2.2 + factory reset phone is working like a charm now.
Im with the original OP. Way too many issues to deal with - I love what the device has to offer - but if I have to worry everytime go I to turn it on if it will work - its not worth it.
If I could have my SGS with the dependability and build quality of an HTC - that would be perfect (I use HTC as an example because all of the ones I have owned have been solid devices).
Yeah thanks opica.....should mention that only really get FCs with some apps that are obviously on the market but not meant for or tested properly on this handset...... overall i should clarify i dont get that many at all. Its mostly just the other things i have experienced such as recording a video and then the handset telling me that the MP4 file is unsupported, i reboot it still does not work so i record another video...this is also an mp4 file and plays. Its just **** like that constantly. I am on JPY but even that firmware gets confused every so often. Like i said i have had 2 samsung phones now both were flagship models at the time but both have fallen short because something this hyped should be the dogs bollocks. But they are not. Whoever says otherwise is kidding themselves IMO.
guys I totally sympathise because I have the voda 16GB SGS and it is fu**ing awful SW im not kidding Eg bbc news app takes about 3 mins to load plus it feezes up all the time to the point where it is unusable. I am unable to answer calls as it just shows the answer call screen but the screen is frozen and this is on the official 2.2 updated from sammy after a reset AHHHHH
However after speaking to and getting no where with samsung i decided i had a phone thats unusable and samsung are not doing a thing so my options were sell it and get an IP4 followed by shotgun insertion to mouth or just bite the bullet and flash a custom rom
WOW I installed darkys v8.0 and its is like a whole new phone that bbc news app now loads instantly no freezing no lagging no issues at all so far. Well besides battery life since I cant put the thing down now. Even WiFi connects in a second now. So amazing work by Darky and team.
Im not promoting this rom go choose our own but im just telling you guys i was in the same boat and now i love the SGS if your out of options and you love the hardware get a new rom.
Someone once said "buy a phone for its hardware capabilities then customize the SW to your specifications, then you will have your perfect phone"
Flash a custom FW? As someone else said, Darky's is a fine one to try.

Exactly... There is loads of custom ROMs posted here on xda.
I had a feeling that the software will be pretty ****ty at the beginning, but I kinda hoped that some decent custom rom will come out, if samsung wasn't able to build one.
My first choice would be nitr0's Insanity, but when JPY came out, it was good enough for me.
Again, I have NO problems now when I sorted everything out, it's merely playing with the looks of the desktop

THose three coments earlier...? Everyone's going Cuckoo in this thread or what....!!
ANyway, I think we'll need to wait till samfirmware gets hold of the ROM.
I updated my Wife's phone to 2.2 via kies.
It wasn't so good as I thought it might be.
She wasn't able to receive calls. Screen went black and error message came. Factory reset helped.
Second bug was that after factory reset calls came through, but She or neither the caller couldn't hear a thing. I switched speaker on on my wife's phone, and everything was ok.. turning back to phone, everything is muted..
I flashed 2.1 back. And 2.2 is never coming back to this house.
not so bad .i think it's just got something wrong during you flashing .i flash JPF many times and different version like kyrillos's one or Lestatious' .those all runs fine on my phone.

Kies flashed, not me. Never had those issues on 2.1.
After short tests I noticed 2 bugs that egzists in JP9.
- 1min lag after turning off gps
- system shows wrong size of installed apps
I think I'll stay with this rom and test it more. If by some miracle those bugs are fixed I'll change for official release. But I seriously doubt it...

I must admit that I'm a little disappointed with xxjpl. In fact I cannot tell one thing that is better than my prevoius eclair version.
1) Lag in menus after turning off gps is sometomes very annoying and lasts for a few minutes
2) I haven't managed to get gps fix till now. I used gps opt but I have to admit that so far I tried only to get fix putting my hand out of my window Tommorow I will try outside
3) Today I noticed that when my mom called me phone rejected phone call after a few seconds. It never happend since then but still I'm a little bit worried. (I did factory reset)
4) I haven't noticed that this rom (menus) are faster than in 2.1, still sometimes there is a little lag
I'm thinking about trying those custom roms like Kyrillos. Could you tell me your experience with jpf? Is there a problem with showing wrong size of installed apps? What about GPS fix? Any other custom roms have those problems?

how to go back to ke1

Since "upgrading" my phone to ke2 my phone now gets the force close problem amdtajpm my battery life seems horrendous
Any help gratefully received
Dan
As far as I'm aware you can download the stock KE1 firmware and then flash back to it via Odin, though you may want to wait for a second opinion on this before you go ahead and do it in case anything nasty happens
Thanks, also my battery has had 61% used up by the cell standby over the last 12 hours
Eh?

LoL, I can tell you were an Orange user before looking at your profile.
Lol.....
My Desire HD had solid 3g signal all the time, I kept it in WDCMA mode and it was so fast.....
I sold it and bought an iPhone 4.....sold that the day after as it was the biggest pile of **** I have ever owned.....
Then I bought the SGS2.....
Phone's fast - Signal isn't!

From what I can gather it seems as if the phone has some issue with Orange network. It's weird, works perfectly fine on the other networks.
i have a feeling that ke3 will come out in the next week or so, so just wait and update then.
If you can i updated to ke1 through odin and ke2 through kies, but im over updating every 2 days lol so ill wait.
P.S if using kies please turn of your anti virus programs, they will delete a file in the middle of the update and it will give you and error. handy tip
