[Q] LG G2 Straight Talk MMS Issue After Kit Kat Update - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Everyone,
I recently received the update to 4.4.2 on my LG G2 on Straight Talk. I am on the "new" SIM card (post November or something). Before when I was on 4.2.2 I would be able to send and receive MMS but now after the update I do not have access to MMS neither sending nor receiving. I was wondering if any of you were in the same boat and whether any of you had a fix ?
I have tried lots of APN settings as well.
Thanks,
Daniel

Same issue here

Net10 same problem can't send or receive mms after Kit Kat updated
My LG G2 AT&T updated to KIT KAT and now I can't send or receive MMS. I think AT&T turn off MMS feature on different carrier.
AT&T are being evil not letting us go to different carriers.

Better not be the case, I'm not so impressed with the update anyways. They could of added more. If I really have to, I don't mind going back to aosp. I'll call customer service l8r but if anyone gets an update please post it

Update 2/27/14: I was on the phone with them last night for about 45 min and they ran me through the useless reboot procedures.
They eventually opened a ticket and they stated that if my MMS wasn't fixed in 24 hours to give them a call. It has been about 12 and still no fix.

Same here. Spoke with a guy in tech support, was a waste of my lunch break. No solution

APN
Usually issues about not being able to send MMS messages are because of incorrectly set APN.
Settings > Tethering and networks > Mobile networks > Access point names and select your appropriate carrier, if not, may need to be put in manually...
Edit:
Only reason I can think of even though @DanielMena9 has said he's messed with those settings...
Try this:

Thanks but still no go. ive been using my same sim for 2-3 yrs now. Always worked. Im just gonna order a new sim. Here are my settings. They're working fine on previous g2 firmware, aosp, etc. i tried just about everything

I am having the exact same problem. I use this phone with my tmobile SIM and before the kit kat update mms worked perfectly but after it doesn't work at all. Sms works fine and the apn settings are ccorrect. Is this issue only happening on straight talk and non at&t sims?

Not sure. I have an "att compatible" Sim card from straight talk. I'm guessing the issue is those with non att sim cards. I just don't think people are reporting the issue. Wish someone would confirm their mms is okay

has anyone tried using a differnt messageing app? like textra or evolve? ive heard about this before and textra seemed to help people
but i dont know if its the same case here

I've tried hangouts, evolve, & textra. Even tried changing textra's mms settings. Also managed to get root. Thought if i could delete the att apn, it might help. Managed to delete but still nothing

I did some poking around in the the hidden menus that the launcher pro activities widget exploit opens up on the D800. But unfortunately I didn't mess with to much for fear of really messing something up. Hopefully the service ticket through at&t tech will yield some results.

I have the same issue, I am on AT&T. Cannot send or receive pictures through standard texting which was working good before kitkat update

This is clearly a kitkat related issue since we are all having the same issue since upgrade to 4.4.2.
I realized some have called straight talk, and AT&T... hopefully AT&T will entertain us.

You mentioned that you are using a T-Mobile Straight Talk SIM card or a straight up T-Mobile SIM card and it stopped working after the Kit Kat update?
I just want to confirm if the issue is Straight Talk LG G2 Kit Kat exclusive or LG G2 Kit Kat wide regardless of SIM / company.

I am using my regular T-mobile SIM card, not a straight talk SIM. And yes mms worked without a hitch on JB.

Gah! So this is an LG / AT&T Kit Kat issue :/ its going to take forever to fix if there ever is a fix
I am going to walk to a store sometime and see if a display LG G2 updates for Kit Kat can send MMS

Straight Talk mms
I had the same problem everyone has mentioned. The reason is that after the KK update you couldn't enter the APN type. It is grayed out. You can enter every other setting on edit access point except APN type. So this is what you have to do.1.Use the LG Flash tool and flash back to the D80010d software. Do not let the phone take the q update. Do this 2..http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2633150 after adding root and the custom recovery do this 3. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2665391 So when you are finished you will be A. On Kit Kat, rooted but without a custom recovery and be able to add the APN type. I know this all sound like a big PITA but it doesn't really take all that long. None of this is anything I thought of. Please give a thanks to all the developers who put in all the hard work
Just figured out you have to set up the APN BEFORE flashing Kit Kat.

same issues with MMS
I am in the same boat with receiving and sending MMS after 4.4.2 update. I have the correct SIM card. Was working fine before the update. I still get 4G LTE data. But before the update there was no pre-existing APN's. Now there is an AT&T APN that cannot be deleted or modified. I have tried all different APN settings. Looks like AT&T has made it to where we have to go directly through them. So hopefully someone figures something out or looks like I'm gonna have to go to AT&T. It'll cost about $25 more a month but what's the point of having a smartphone if u can't do picture mail? Someone please get this figured out. Please.

[Q] Help! Rooted Virgin Mobile Legend can't use data

So I just rooted my HTC Legend using the goldcard method and installed a 2.2 rom, since Virgin is refusing to update the phone themselves. Unfortunatly, I now have NO Data connection. Voice and Text work, but no 3G. After calling a rep, they gave me the APN info, but it still didn't help. They finally said they don't allow "unlocked" phones to use data on the network -- meaning after all the trouble of rooting the phone and upgrading to 2.2 because they WOULDN'T, my phone can't use data! Is there any way around this or any way to return to Virgin's stock rom?
Help!!
Which APN are you using?
i have done exactley the same thing with the gold card method and now i can't get a single bit of data but i haven't gotten as far as calling virgin mobile to ask them about it ..... and i have a friend who has the same phone on the same network not rooted if that helps any but i'm still new to the whole linux i've gone from 6.5 to this ^.^

I had the same problem recently. I am with Bell, but apparently virgin uses the same settings so try going
Menu>Settings>Mobile Networks>Access Point Names
then hit Menu and choose New APN. In here enter the settings:
APN: inet.bell.ca
Proxy: web.wireless.bell.ca
Port: 80
Username:
Password:
Server:
MMSC: h t t p:// mms. bell. ca/ mms/ wapenc (without the spaces)
MMS proxy: web.wireless.bell.ca
MMS port: 80
MMS protocol: WAP 2.0
MCC : 302
MNC : 610
APN type :
then hit menu again and save. When you back out, there should be a radio button beside your new apn to select, so do that. That should give you internet access, or if not try rebooting.
As for wifi, my problem was fixed by reinstalling my router. You can either do this, or go somewhere else and try wifi to see if it works.
Make sure all of your check marks are where they are supposed to be, too
You could also use the pda.bell.ca APN with the same settings as mentioned above. The inet apn is officially used for tethering whereas pda is for mobile browsing (this according to bell). Doesn't really make a difference which one you pick, but I found pda to be slightly faster.

Straight Talk question..

I am on ST using At&t Sim, however I just received my N4 2 days ago and would like to switch to a T-Mobile Sim(which I have from ST). My question is this can I switch in the middle of my monthly plan? I have tried to call them to ask but no luck. I saw am option on their website but don't want to do it of its not the correct procedure. Any one ?

I asked this same question recently:

I haven't attempted yet but it sounds like you can access your account from their website and activate the T-Mobile SIM from there, thereby continuing your current service.
I cannot get Straight with T-Mobile to work, can anyone share their working APN settings, I have tried the ST website and it doesnt work.... I've been on hold with them for over 30 minutes... maybe you guys can help me quicker.

I had a similar issue yesterday although it was with an AT&T sim. I tried every single APN setting imaginable and my data still would not work, whereas calls and texts worked perfectly fine. I tried calling customer service but they did not help -- they wanted to troubleshoot my settings but I was using my ST phone to call them so I couldn't. Instead, I opened a support ticket through Facebook (facebook.com/StraightTalkWireless), click Support -- or e-mail them). They responded by saying "Changes have been made to the account, please turn your phone off and on to update." My data magically worked. It took a few hours for them to respond, but if you try a bunch of APN settings and nothing works, try that.

Net10 Sim Issues.....Anybody Else?

I have had my Nexus 4 about a week and a half now. I am trying to decide what service to go with, and I have tired a T-Mobile prepaid sim and am currently attempting to use Net10 Sim with an ATT micro-sim purchased from Best Buy.
I have been having so many data issues with Net10, I would say it is not even usable. My APN settings are below, but doing some internet searches, it seems like there are Data connectivity issues with Net10? I was just going to see if anybody else has experienced this and if they found a way to tweek the APN settings to make this work. Net10 support reps have yet to offer any solution. I go for periods without any data at all while my signal is blue with an H (I am typically on HSPA+ 15 or 10). I cannot use many of my apps that require data and I have to refresh websites multiple times to get it to load.
Do the same issues exist on Straight Talk with the ATT Micro-Sim? I did not have any issues like this with the T-Mobile prepaid sim so I do not believe it is a radio issue. I am trying to find out about ATT through either straight-talk or Net10 since T-Mobile does not have a signal in my wife's school. Thanks!

I've updated this setting. Data is very slow and I am still unable to use some apps that work fine on WiFi such as SatelliteGuys (works after I try several times), XDA (haven't used successfully) & SpeedTest (doesn't work says network communication issues) & DishRemote App (can't login even). Google music seems to work and I can send texts, will try an mms soon. I'm really thinking this is an issue with Net10. I've barely used any data so I don't think I am throttled. Really bad service thus far.
Assuming Straight Talk has the same issues with the ATT service? BTW, I am in the Kansas City metro area, full strength.
i used to have net10 and on some days the internet wouldn't work
Any data interruption, I would say it's AT&T service in your area. NET10 is the same as Straight Talk, once you set your APN and data works, it just works. You may want to check by borrowing a friend's SIM Tmo, AT&T or any compatible network, set the right APN, test, troubleshoot and compare. Another issue could be your radio.
If you input the first proxy, some apps/things won't work and may be blocked from access i.e. speedtest

I live in Columbus,Ga using a T-Mobile sim on straight talk and tried everything I could find even ST customer service and nothing worked well. Then 1 night on straight talk CS chat the rep gave me this and now I get HSPA+ and 4G all over the area. What I don’t understand is the APN: wap.tracfone and the MMSC with cingular in it. All of the other APN’s I found at XDA, the net or straight talk never used those two items. Also I am using a hybrid radio flash but have been using various combinations of APN’s and radios since I got the phone and the APN is what made the difference.
I'm in Tmobile classic plan and my data has been slow the past week or so, not sure why. I am gonna try this APN just to see what happens, it is working, but I'll see how fast it is.

Thanks, that explains the cingular and Straight Talk does have, or had ATT, sims I have a T-mobile sim. I still don't see how an ATT APN works with a T-Mobile sim.
MMSC = multimedia messaging service center. Data does not use this unless it is MMS related. How is your MMS working? The other fields could be standard and you would actually be going thru T-Mobile for data.

Moto G Straight Talk MMS Fix

For those of you that can't receive MMS messages I have found a fix that worked for me at least and apparently others with various other phones.
I used the standard APN Settings that Straight Talk tells you to use:
Name: Straight Talk (or anything you want)
APN: tfdata
Port: 80
MMSC: http://mms-tf.net
MMS Proxy: mms3.tracfone.com
MMS Port: 80
Everything else default.
The next part is what fixed it. Since I ported my number from Virgin Mobile to Straight Talk according to another thread I found on the Google Support Forums (http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/hangouts/IQGICsHMFHA[1-25-false]) that there can be a bad port and which you cannot receive MMS.
So since the standard Bring your Own Phone Sim card plackage I got from Walmart came with 2 AT&T sims (Micro and Full Sized) I cut down the full sized sim to be micro and then transferred my existing service to the new sim through Straight Talk's website. Then a few hours later I was able to receive MMS messages again.
It is also mentioned that waiting for the next bill payment period can also help fix MMS but I didn't want to wait another week to see if that would work when I could transfer in a few hours.
Hope this helps others that have had this issue.
Just to clarify...
The Moto G IS, in fact, flashable to Straight Talk?
Now is this the GSM or CDMA version?

I don't have any interest in paying double for the same phone on a different tower. Now, as a last resort...I will.
After browsing the forums for a while I decided it was best to just start my own thread. Thanks for the info though!
