Just got a Galaxy SIII as an upgrade and sold it on Amazon (only online for 30 mins) so I've got £450 sitting in the bank waiting for the Galaxy Note 10.1 to ship.
Do I keep my "Baby" note as a phone and run it alongside the 10.1 or downgrade to a Nexus S or similar?
The Note 10.1 has both the features I value most on the baby Note: S-Pen and big screen.
What would you do?
I plan on getting the note 10 next to the note 5
I think that both Notes are different devices. Having both beats the purpose. The original Note fits both phone and tablet worlds. The new 10" Note will not work as good as a phone.
In other words, both devices are for different market niches.

I'm planning on having both as I use it heavily for work, especially note taking. I will probably use the 10" one in the Office and the 5" for when I travel to different locations.
Any idea when Sammy are going to release the damn thing?

If you have a pc / laptop in the office you won't need a tablet, just my opinion.
Ok, i have a 10" tablet (before the note came) and i have a note. I take a lot of notes and work with plenty of docs. I must say that when i'm on the move i use my note for everything but when i'm at work or home i use my laptop. No need for a tablet... Untill now the tablet is "resting" in the hands of my wife and daughter since i don't need it for now.
Just to make life simpler: when i'm working at home or work i have my note plugged in and use the things i wrote before. No problems here.
Hope that it helps you in making a decision, 450$ in the bank is always welcome for a rainy day..........

That maybe true for some, I tend to make a lot of handwritten notes as I feel more comfortable this way. The note taking is just one of my main uses however, when I am at home I like to use a tablet for browsing etc especially when lying in bed, it's more comfortable than using a laptop and the battery lasts a lot longer.
I also read a lot of PDF documents that I annotate, for this I would prefer the larger display and the s pen. I am currently using the Asus transformer for this but a friend of mine will be buying this off me when I get the 10.1 note so hopefully won't be paying the full whack for it.
The attraction for me is all that space to write notes and see a page full at a glance without scrolling around. I've been using Lecture Notes for a week or so and it's perfect for my needs if only the screen were bigger. I wouldn't type on a laptop in a customer meeting as it would be inappropriate but writing on a screen is unobtrusive and feels natural.

Having purchased 7 different tablets and 3 different phones in the last year, I can say that the note is the perfect device. I do still have a 10 inch tablet but rarely use it now.
The note is a great phone and a great everyday tablet. I tried lugging around a 7 inch tablet, but the reality is that it is still too cumbersome.
You should find a tablet you like and stick with the note imo.
You won't find a device this portable and powerful.
The only other device that makes sense is the padfone.

Both. I love my current Note as a phone.
I often use my Tab 10.1 when I want a tablet - the Note 10.1 is the first device with the potential for making me want to ditch it.

Would it be possible to use a bluetooth-enabled headset with the Note 10.1 to make calls? In other words, do you really have to have a separate cell device? Does any major carrier support cell service on a pad?
I know the Note 10.1 isn't near as portable as a cell phone, but, I rarely go anywhere without a bag, and I really like the idea of having a device like the note easily available. It seems a bit redundant to have both the pad and the phone (especially for the cost).

Can't imagine carrying a 10" tablet everywhere. The idea of the Asus Padfone sounds good but it seems from recent reviews that it's not that good in it's initial offering.
A pad is smaller than a laptop...

You should see my kids. They carry their laptops everywhere they go.
The Note 10.1 is going to be absolutely brilliant with the pen. Even the 5.3 Note is not bad and some of the new feature like Formula Match are really nifty. Imagine all that on a 10.1 device. I hope Samsung pushes the software hard and makes paid versions of their S-Memo and S-Note apps with more features while still keeping pre-installed free versions. I think there is a huge potential for domain-specific apps with pen-support for maths, photo-editing, diagrams etc.
Despite all this I will probably hold out for Windows 8 convertible tablets. What I really want is something like the Samsung Hybrid, recently announced at Computex, which works as a regular Windows laptop and also a removable tablet with pen support. This could be the machine I have been dreaming about for years.
Depends on your needs. I hate carrying two devices with me so my Note is a phone and a tablet for me. But if you have no problem with carrying 10" device with you, then get a smaller phone, you probably won't need 5,3" screen when you have 10" one right beside.
You shoud be able to do this as long as Note 10.1 enables this function, it's not related to the carrier. Take the HTC Flyer as an example, HTC seals its function as a phone, but developers bring this function back in the custom ROM.

I would probably switch the baby note for an S3, the main reason i got the note was to be able to read ebooks on confortable screen, having 10.1 would cover that aspect, so i could get back to using my smartphone confortably with only one hand
I'm going to wait for the Windows 8 Tablets. Samsung already do the Slate, but with Win 7.
Something similar, but lower cost and maybe 10.1 inch would suite me. Having Office etc. make it better for work and I still have Note for when on the move.
It does depend on how good and how expensive the Windows 8 Tablets are, when they start coming out...

I think a win8 pro tablet with stylus and Onenote is simply too much for the note 10.1, and the possibility of launching desktop programs like ansys and catia is a deal breaker for me ( engineer student)

why not just keep both like i do...Note is excellent i just hope it gets updated regularly...am a bit disappointed on the build quality though.

That's what is disturbing me too. Cant afford to keep both. I have been having issue with getting my excel sheets on to iPad with USB cable. Plus my movies and playing them. The iPad is very complicated when it comes to file transfers and playing media not in iTunes. I don't find the apps anymore intuitive then android; they are basically becoming the same ESPN taptu pulse Google + ect. I also miss the SD card slot I think I have made up my mind.

Sounds like you are experiencing the problems with the closed garden of iOS which is why I have little use for Apple products. The flexibility of android more then makes up for its issues. After all, all operating systems have, IMO, things about them that can be problematic.
As far as build issues, I find the Note solid enough for my needs. Like all tabs on need to take care using them (good case, screen protector, etc). The display quality is the only aspect of the iPad3 that "wins" over the Note IMO. But the Note's display is fine for my needs.

You are asking in the Note forum so you will probably hear YES, I'd agree with them. It depends on what features you love about the note and how often you would use them, ask yourself, can the Ipdad do this?

I bought an ipad for my daughter and it is great for my daughter. I can lock it down even more and she can only play the games i put on there and the movies i put on there. For her the locked down can't do anything else is an awesome...err...feature? I do hate having to convert movies to a specific format to play on her ipad. But my wife has an iphone and it is painful to send her anything besides a picture. And we always have to close stuff to make things work on the ipad. And sometimes it says its disc is full when there are several gigs free. Requires a reset and reload of everything to fix. It seems sturdy, but I have it in a gorilla case. How important is metal body? You should be careful enough to not drop something that expensive anyways. I've never dropped a tablet or laptop. Just my phone.
I had a transformer prime, loved the keyboard, but it was laggy all the time and never held wifi. So i returned to BB and got the 16, then 32 gig Note. Don't waste time with the 16 btw. But I can edit documents on it no problem. I can put 720p mkv files on it and it just plays them. Same for any divx/xvid movie. And sure the resolution is less than the ipad 3, daughter has ipad1. I don't feel the need to watch 1080p movies on it. If I want that high of quality then I'll watch on my tv. The note just flies. It is so quick and responsive. And I love the screen, think its perfect resolution. It is crystal clear for me with no light leaks. Same res as my work laptop. Speakers on the front, why doesn't every one do this? The ipad sucks for watching anything I think. Can't hear that well unless you turn it all the way up. Still isn't that loud. The note speakers play stereo, into your ears, like its meant to be. And there is no bluetooth audio lag when using wireless headphones. The sd card slot is a must. With the cheap price of 32gig ones you can pretty much carry a small movie library in HD. I don't use the pen that much, but it works well for web browsing and draw something. The small links in chrome are easy to touch with it without zooming. The chrome browser is a must. With heavy use I can get just over 10 hours of screen on time without turning performance mode off.
I've had a LOT of tablets (old Galaxy 3g, Xoom, Iconia A500, 8.9" Xyboard 4G, iPad 2, iPad 3 4G, Nexus 7, Transformer Prime, and Note 10.1). From my experience, I've narrowed down what I'm looking for in a tablet. I want something that's thin, has good battery, fast processor, expandable memory, kinda like a somewhat smaller tablet but not required, and not locked down. I love hacking my devices but don't want to have to hack it to hell and search through garbled folders and/or install paid apps (Good Reader) just to be able to put my music and videos on it and play it as a native app (music wont die when you leave a screen). Apple is too proprietary. People like it's simplicity but it is really a manufacturer aimed at old people and dumb people (sorry if I offended anyone).
I really like Motorola devices. Well built, usually decent battery, and always good signal. But they're locked down (at least current devices - hope they stay true to promises).
Asus is a good manufacturer who willingly unlocks your devices at the expense of your warranty. They keep records so no getting around it. Not the best battery, but quad core and expandable memory. Easily my 2nd choice!
And finally we have Samsung. Both my S3 and Note 10.1 have exceptional battery (considering they're not expanded and the processor each is packing). Totally unlocked without voiding warranty (just reset the flash counter). Recovery with odin is just as simple as sbf or fastboot with Moto devices with the exception that hacking can occur with odin (+1). I'm really digging Touchwiz. I'm totally sold on the motion functions. Both devices are next in line for official Jelly Bean. No lack of development. Expandable memory, get the 16 gb and pop in a micro sd (+10). No complaints whatsoever from this guy.
I read a little bit about Samsung's new TV's. Essentially a wifi ready, motion sensor packed, giant wall hanging, LED/3D, upgradeable Android device. If it weren't for the price tag I'd have one on my wall right now.
Why else would Apple sue Samsung over stupid stuff? They see a better manufacturer who can and will steal iFans!

I've had a Zoom, Tab 10.1, Transformer Infinity, iPad3, and now the Note 10.1. The note beats everything hands down. (I also have 2 Nexus 7s, but that's a different category) . For everything you want to do, Android is your poison. The Note is the best tablet on the market right now. IPad is nice, but I hate being locked down in iOS. Here is what I like and don't like about the GNote 10.1

Killer hardware
Front speakers
Expandable SD memory
Big following so lots of support
Build quality is very good
S pen + Bluetooth keyboard and mouse support
Dislike:
Plastic back. (Put a case on it and you don't have to worry about scratches
Non HD screen (it's a negligible difference)
Touchwiz (custom ROMs like CM10 remove this annoyance)
Hulu doesn't support it yet (hacked APK can be installed)
As you can see, all the dislikes are minor and easily handled. It's a great tablet and satisfies me (I'm NEVER satisfied).

Btw: iPads are great for kids as they are easy... but Android offers better parental controls both natively and with apps.

i haven't used my ipad in a month since getting the note. i doubt i'll ever use it again and handing it over to my daughter.
I purchased mines from at best buy one day cause there was a Samsung rep showing off all its features. I'll admit my purchase was completely impulsive and I had no intentions on spending $500 for a tablet since I already had an iPad at home. However I decided to make the purchase figuring if I didn't like it I had 60 days to return it (I'm a premier rewards zone member and they give you 60 days for returns). However once I got it at home and started messing around with it I haven't even thought about my iPad. I actually told my gf she can have it because I love the gnote so much. I use it for everything from taking notes for my courses to playing games to watching YouTube vids. I've had an ipad since the first one launched and I thought it was a great device. However I love my widgets and customization that the gnote gives me. I'll never go back to the iPad now.

I use the iPad in my car with Siri. It's very useful this way. Siri has flaws but it's pretty good on the road. There are other things that the iPad excels in of course.
I just don't think one is better than the other, but a matter of choice and/or application.

Stick with the Note. I had ipad1 when it first came out(still have it). Then went to transformer prime. Then I have 2 Nexus 7's. Now I have a Note 10.1 and SG3. I never would've thought I'd be impressed by Samsung so much. MY PRIME had a good run but can't compare tl the stability of my Note 10.1 and Nexus 7. I still think the Nexus 7, Note 10.1, and Infinity Pad are the 3 best tabs on the market today.
Even if a person don't use the S pen, note 10.1 is a great choice. Based on power and stability alone.

I didn't belong to any iPad forums I only had it for 3 days. If was way to difficult to transfer files. If IOS had a file manager without extra programs I would have maybe gave it a shot.

Same deal, i bought ipad3 for gradschool. This was 1 month before 10.1 release. And i was dealing with iOS `pain´ . then my girlfriend bought 10.1 and man i ´ ticked! I feel cheated! I envied that tablet more than anything else. Good thing my gf dont mind me messing with it when shés not using it.

I am getting a tablet soon, and I am stuck between the galaxy note 10.1 and the galaxy note 8.0. I want the s pen functionality, but am worried that if I get the note 8 the space to use the s pen will be too small.Equally I'm not sure I want a tablet that is so big and clunky that I won't be able to carry it around at all. I don't like the capacitive buttons on the tab but I do like the dockbar in the is of the galaxy note 8.I like the the multitasking better on note 10.1 as it has more modes.Which do u think I should get?

I like the 10.1 inch screen, it is about the same size as a folder you might crry around if you were at highschool, I wish I had this then. Would've made life easier....
There are lot of students that use this tablet for school.
The pen is a nice feature and I like the larger space to use it however if you aren't going to be using this feature there are a lot of other less expensive alternatives around.
The Note 10.1 runs JB 4.1.2 at the moment which makes it a bit better than the ICS it was launched with. We have been chalked up (supposedly) to get updates to android 5.0 but anything after is uncertain.
I find it a good alround device with both work and play functionality. There are a heap of people complaining about the 1200 X 800 screen but this is actually comparable to most other tablets out there. I have no problem with it...
The resolution on the 10.1 us it's biggest downfall, although it is fine it does look poor sometimes compared to my note 2 or s3.
Without seeing the note 8 I am not sure how functional multiview would be as I would never use it on the s3 or n2 but on the 10.1 it is the main reason for switching it on.
I would imagine that carrying an 8 inch tablet would be just as clunky as carrying a 10 inch in truth.

I have recently upgraded to the note 10.1 from my trustee tab 8.9. If they did the 8.9 with s pen and mem card slot there is no way I'd of gone for the 10.1. I think the size of the 8.9 is perfect (I am using it now) and nicer to hold when just surfing or Facebook etc. but do like having the note size when using the s pen/multi screen. I have not seen the new 8 inch but think it may feel bit too small for all the good features they have. I'd go for the note 10.1 myself.....

This is a difficult question. It is a matter of tradeoffs. The resolution will definitely look better on the Note 8 running about 40 ppi higher. On the other hand the Note 10.1 has more real estate which is what we buy tablets for. An 8 inch tablet is actually quite a bit larger than a 7 inch tablet so don't use that as a measure. Still you will be fighting the "this is just a bigger phone" feeling.
I initially was all for the Note 8 and thinking it would kill the Note 10.1 because of speed, portability and ppi. It might but so much depends on pricing and how well you can take notes at 8 inches. I recently repurchased a Note 10.1 because I needed a note taking device and can't stand waiting FOR EVER for Samsung to actually release something in the US.
I'd say if you can wait wait. Compare the 2. if the Note 8 comes in around $300 the Note 10.1 will surely come down in price.
what I found ridiculous is the price for the 8, you can easily get a new 10.1 for that and have some change.

I have the nexus7 as well as note 10.1 when I bought this note I really thought it would stay home because the nexus will fit in my smaller purse. I have came to love the 10 inch screen though yes it's quality is lower in resolution. So now I have one in my purse the other under my arm typing this in the van right now waiting at a apt. 8 inch note taking tab will still be a bit to small for true business /school use. Tethered to my phone for blue tooth calling I never get phone out of pocket. Awesome device. I have 32 gb wifi version.

Like others have said. It is a peraonal decission. That being said, I find that even though 7" tablets are a more managable size for transport and eazier to hold one handed, they feel cropped when Web surfing. Web surfing is the #1 task I perform on my tablet. The 8 and 9" for factors may be that perfect mid line or a combination of the worst of the worst. Until I get a 8.9 in my hands I won't know

Where are these good capacitive stylus. I have tried them all. All are crap. Only one usable is jot and it's not so great. If you need handwriting there is only one choice the note . choose your size wisely

Does it matter? She is right. I've tried many of them with my other tablets and they all suck and are no better than a finger.

I own a intuos 4 professional drawing tablet for my pc. Once you have used one of those for drawing nothing else is good enough.
The jot pro is the best capacitive styles. But only for the first hour of its life. The disk are 6.00 each so I cost 6 dollars a hour to use and scratches your screen / screen protector.
Are there any whispers of an update to the 10.1 this summer? The price for the 10.1 is nice, but I have this feeling I'll regret it in June or August...

The the note is awesome as it is now. Unless you have to have the latest version of the os. If you wanting a pen tablet that can get things done just buy it. The note 8 as talked about above might be worth waiting for if you want a smaller tab. With Samsung there is no truth to updates until you see the message on your machine there is a update. Same with most others.

This: Although Samsung is yet to officially confirm its Android 5.0 schedule, a SamMobile source is claiming to know which phones and tablets will be getting the Key Lime Pie upgrade. According to the source, the devices set to receive the upgrade are the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Note 8.0 and Galaxy Note 10.1.

I have note 1 and note 10.1, this devices together works greate, i mean noteS, i think You should thinka about what smartfone do U have, if U have big screen phone like 5,5'' You dont need note 8, or if U have small screen U can buy note 8 but if i must buy second time i will chose note 10.1

I also have tried many styluses including the Jot Classic, the Jot Pro, and many of the rubber and cloth tipped styluses. I have found that some are better than others for some things. I have a very cheap "Mini Suit" that works very well, much better than the Jots for writing (not as well as the s-pen though) and feels very nice when used. I have an "Isound.net" brush stylus that makes painting with it feel more like working with an actual brush. This is why I ask what they want to use the stylus for as it does make a difference.

I had an Intuos 3 and 4. I agree there is nothing like them. With that said setting them up just to do a quick sketch or working away from your studio is a pain with them. Now we have the Note 10.1 and the Note 2 for such things and the software for them is improving daily. I disagree that the Jot is the best capacitive stylus. It is quite unreliable and does not feel like any pen or brush you would use in real life for writing or painting. Let alone the expense.
So I've traded in my beloved Nexus 7 for a Galaxy Note 8. Here's why:
A lot of the decision was based around the extremely poor execution on the Nexus brand. The Galaxy Nexus launch was smooth, but Verizon only. I preordered the Nexus 7 the moment it became possible to do so, only to have my order take weeks to process and with no way to cancel it after I was able to walk into a Sam's Club and pick up one of the dozen or so they had in stock (I actually had to cancel the card I used to preorder it to prevent Google from billing me). Most recently, the case study in botched launches we call the Nexus 4 was simply unacceptable from a company as big and as smart as Google. Toss in the scant attention they give to accessories (Nexus 7 desktop dock, anyone?) and my faith in Google as a hardware partner has simply been abolished. There was no way in hell I was going to try the next Nexus 7 and hope they've improved things.
That aside, the Nexus 7 was an awesome tablet, but the form factor was a real turn off for me. The thing just felt so bulky in my hand and pocket. That didn't keep me from using the crap out of it, but I really wanted to find an iPad Mini sized device with Android on it. Superficial, I know, but I can't say it wasn't a factor when I read how thin the Note 8 was going to be. Even if the next Nexus 7 is just as thin, the killer feature for me is the S Pen. Android tablets and a third party stylus are just north of complete disappointment. Every tablet I've owned since the Motorola Xoom really sucked in this department. Since my day job now involves 3x as many meetings as it did when I got the N7, the ability to take quick notes and sketch out something rough was a huge selling point. Having used it for a week now, that alone has completely justified the extra cost over an N7 for me.
I do hate a few things, however. The capacitive buttons are annoying as hell in landscape. More than once already, I've hit the back button while playing a game or reading something. How this made it past any sort of QA testing is beyond me. While we're on the subject of "wtf", who's bright idea was it to place the speakers on the part of the device you cover up in landscape? It's very clear that they intended this device to be used in one position and that's extremely unfortunate.
In the end, I'm extremely happy with it. My experience so far has been vastly positive and it's been the most practical Android tablet I've owned to date. Granted, most of that feeling is focused on how much I like the S Pen. Without that, I never would have given this tablet the time of day, even with the better form factor.
great review.. i feel largely the same way with the biggest negative being the capacitive buttons in landscape.. oversight in my opinion that maybe they can develop a disable in landscape option.
I think also underrated is 'reading mode' and i really appreciate samsungs letting us add any app to the list.. I find it much easier and much less strain on the eyes when reading pdfs that way
I kept my nexus 7, so now i have the best of both worlds =) But on another note, note 8 is extremely smooth, its awesome.
About the capacitive buttons... it is possible to active on screen buttons if you're desperate lol... It would take effort though.

I did the same thing. I own a Note 2 and had a Nexus 7. I tried out a Note 10.1 and a Nexus 10 for a week each and returned them both. After seeing what the Note 8.0 was about to bring to the table, I sold my Nexus 7 on the launch day of the Note 8.0 and went with that. I love this thing. For me the size and weight played a huge role as well, not to mention the fact that for me I am not very productive with a tablet unless I have a method of data entry other than touch, like the S Pen or a physical keyboard. After being so happy with my Note 2, the 8.0 ended up being the perfect choice.

But I have heard the next generation of Nexus 7 will come on Google I/O 2013, and it seems own the more powerful specs than the present one, and I do want to compare the new one with Galaxy Note 8.0.

True but unless it has an active digitizer (S-Pen) it doesn't compare. I bought the Note 8.0 for one reason, the S-Pen. I had the Samsung series 7 slate with an active digitizer and loved it, wished for something smaller that I could use. I then bought the Surface Pro and the stylus comes in handy, I use it all the time. I take my Surface to meetings and take notes with it. Now with the Note 8.0 I can go completely digital with my note taking. I will be able to through it in my cargo pocket and take it with me everywhere to take notes and stuff.
I understand everyone has different uses but the Note 8.0 is in a different class with the S-Pen. The iPad mini and Nexus 7, both nice devices owned a Nexus 7, don't compare.

Me too. I love the Spen, but I hate Mali-400MP inside it (Having Note 2). Have no idea why Samsung doesn't put Snapdragon S600 (or at least S4 Pro) into it.
8.0 inch is the perfect side for a tablet, so I'm waiting for its successor.
I traded up from the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1'' and I DONT regret it. The 8.0'' screen is perfect, still kinda fits in your pocket, the extra inch over the 7'' tabs is duly noted and the -2.1 inches from my former tablet isnt even missed. I, so far, have no complaints about my Note!

I've read a lot of people complain about it, but no one is really saying why. My experience so far is that the OS runs as snappy as any device I've ever used, applications load up quickly, and so far, every game I've tossed on it plays just fine. Could it be faster, less power hungry, or newer? Sure, but I'm not seeing a reason why I should care, either.
I'd love to hear some thoughts on why people have such a problem with the processor.

It boils down to some dumb "It's great, but we want <insert the new tech buzzword" fanboyism. By all means the SoC is great, is tried and tested, and more than powerful enough for anything on the platform or on the horizon.
Basically, a bunch of biased blogs used it as a knock against the Note 8, and because its not an octa-core Exynos 6 with 8GB of RAM and a GeForce 790GT it's suddenly bad. Even though they had literally just got done gushing over the same SoC in the Note 2 and others.

Reason? Cannot play fruit ninja perfectly smoothly. ShadowGun DZ seems even laggier than my tf101.
I didn't say anything abt the processor, coz even 1ghz quad core (power saving mode? Is totally enough. But the GPU...

I don't play these games, but I am pretty sure hyperbole of comparing any function of the N8 to the TF101 is not going to help your argument. I went and downloaded Shadowgun for kicks, and it plays like a scalded dog on my Note 8 (and Note 2 for that matter),
My fathers TF101 struggles to replay the Quadrant render. The Tegra2 was, and always has been, a total slug.

Fruit Ninja is playing just fine for me on my GT-N5110, so I'm not sure where you're getting its not "perfectly smooth". The same goes for large games like Asphalt 7 or Max Payne in that they play as well on this device as they do on my N7 or TF300T.
Both are great tablets!

My s4 is faster. Higher res screen etc. But when it comes to browsing video etc theres no substitute for real estate.
Please dont listen to these bad reviews written by apple twats. If your in the market for a 10in tablet. You will love this

Have to totally agree as well. Was about to get the Nexus 10 but I am really happy to get the Note 10.1. And the screen size and quality is more than fine for me...
This is the first time i have really used a tablet for my various hobbies. The Spen magic is great as well.
I just wish we get the Android updates for multiuser feature and bluetooth 4 LE support

I completely ignored the reviews about the note 10.1, so many complaints about the screen being poor etc, what a load of tosh that is, there's bugger all wrong with it imo. I picked the note 10.1 over the nexus 10 and I don't regret that decision one bit!

Snagged mine on eBay for £204 about 3 months ago, it's everything I need in a tablet.... I came from the tab 7.7 with the amoled screen which was lovely but still prefer the note 10.1 as more horsepower and bigger screen = happy gingerdude + with my note 2 gives me everything on the go.
To those who say screen is poor, try it for yourself is more than ok.

Couldn't agree more... just got my Note 10.1 a few weeks back - had been debating upgrading my original Tab 10.1 for a N10. I'm so happy I didn't - not sure where most of the bad reviews come from: screen is fantastic, the device is super-responsive, feels great in the hand and well-built, expandable memory (running a 64GB card in my 32GB Note = all the space I could ask for) - and for someone that uses his tablet like a notebook, the pen is fantastic to work with... Highly recommended. :victory:
What would make this Tablet permanently on my person, is if it could Seperate into 2, for portability. The 2nd half of the screen could serve as a giant battery, or the 2 halves could have Bluetooth link to each other, so you could do a lot of new things tablets can't do, for (a light-hearted) example , PORTABLE BATTLESHIP GAME SET! XD lol. Just think how creative Samsung could be, once they make those flexible displays commercially available. Also, when Google Glass becomes reasonably priced (I don't think King Midas could even afford it right now), I think some really awesome usage integration between one's glasses, computer, smartphone, and tablet, is inevitably going to be one of the driving catylsts in how commercially available tech will evolve/unfold.

About the screen: the only reason Samsung didn't make it on Par with competitors, is because they couldn't find any that could work well with the specialized Wacom digitizer (which is what makes the s-pen superior to a magic wand XD), while also being cost effective. It's a tradeoff that anyone who goes this tablet a fair try, wouldn't care less about. Friggin' Apple extremists think the iPad screen makes photos look better than looking at something in person with your own eyes. Lol.
Opposite for me. I got my S4 and now I use my tablet less. It's not because it's a bad tablet, it's just that it's easier to whip out the phone and browse sometimes. I use my tablet for lots of other important things though so it makes up for that..
i sold my gn10.1 a few months back to get the ativ 500t and 700t. there isn't a day that goes by that i don't miss it. i've almost bit the bullet a few times and gotten a refurb for $300 (i've seen the refurb 32 for ~$350). i really wanna wait to see if they come out with a bigger screen, but i really miss my gn10.1. i missed it so bad that i bought a gn8 to fill the gap that will be left after i sell my nook hd+.
it was the greatest tablet i've owned and thought i'd finally found one that i'd keep for more than a year. windows is great since i can play just about any format and have an alternate selection of games (can't say better b/c that's subjective) and i love the bigger screen. i do hate that windows desktop isn't very finger friendly and that modern ui sucks so badly.
maybe i'll cave it and get another. hopefully i can tame the desire and wait a few months to see how much the ativ q will be or how big the new galaxy note tablets will be.

I just got a Galaxy S4 about a week and a half ago. I find myself using both my Note 10.1 and S4 about equally but for different things, for productivity apps, such as the S-pen apps and office apps, the real estate of the 10.1 can't be beat. for speed, fast browsing and social apps I lean toward the S4. One note though, the S4 just came out with an update that lets you move apps to SDcard, which the 10.1 does not have (hopefully it will come in a future update), however this update locks the bootloaders so that the S4 then cannot be rooted (as of yet!).
Same here. Galaxy Note and S4. In many ways they compliment each other. S-notes automatically show up on S-memo (albeit read only) and reverse also. S4 is always there when Note is not practical. Note wins for meetings. S4 wins waiting for the airplane door to close, and riding in the car.
I even got the small point stylus (ikross brand) designed for the S4 and it works nicely.
In geek heaven here .
