[Q] Advice on installing an update on a rooted Nexus 10 - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a recently rooted N10 on Android 4.4 build KRT16S. I have had the system update to 4.4.2 in my notifications for weeks now. What I wanted to know has anyone installed this update without any problems? and am I likely to lose root? Bit clueless as to how these updates work but saying that I did manage unlock the boot loader and flash my tablet without any issues. Also if I shouldn't install the update how do remove this update. Thanks in advance folks, Phil.

The update may or may not work, it depends on how much you've touched the system files. If you've just rooted it, the update should work. If not, you can flash the factory image (except for the data partition).
You'll probably lose root, but on a unlocked bootloader, that's nothing to worry about, as you can trivially re-root it.

[Q] Upgrade to KitKat from rooted and LTE hacked 4.3?

Hello all!
I just got the push for the 4.4 upgrade on my phone but I wanted clear a few things up before I commit. I'm currently on a rooted 4.3 with a modded radio for LTE. Is it safe to just run the OTA update from my phone? Or is there another proper way to prevent bricking? How should I go about this?
Thanks guys!
There are a lot of variables such as programs and versions installed, but I tried the OTA under similar conditions as you (In my case I was rooted, hybrid 27/84 radio, unlocked bootloader, TWRP, Koush's superuser, and otherwise stock 4.3) and it just didn't work. I even reverted back to the old radio before I tried it, but it might be the modified build prop or LTE activation that caused the problem. The OTA did not brick my phone or cause any other problems, it just didn't change anything on my 4.3 install. I could see while the update was running that it failed right after examining my existing install, so it didn't like something with my existing system config. I then did the following from the advice on this forum and my upgrade to 4.4 went flawlessly (Post #13):

I just flashed the entire image of the os on top and didn't lose data. On twtp, LTE back, unlock boot loader from 4.3.

[Q] Error updating unrooted phone?

Hi there, I skipped the Nexus 4 myself but a less techie friend of a friend is having trouble updating his to KRT16S from JWR66Y.

He says he bought it straight from Google, never unlocked the bootloader, never rooted. Yet during the update install he gets the message:
"/system/app/PlusOne.apk" has unexpected contents.
There is no way that system app should have been modifiable if he was never rooted. But for some reason it does not match what the update zip expects.
Any idea why this might be happening? And is there any way he can possibly upgrade with a locked bootloader, without wiping?

OTA update when rooted D855

Hey, I have a LG D855, and I'm rooted on A6NL D855 V10G. My phone suggested to OTA update to V10I. Now I want to know if it's safe to do so. And if that's the case, what would happen to my root? I'd actually be glad to be rid of my root since I think it's lagging my device. So, what exactly would happen if I updated? Anybody with experience?
Would think although showing an ota when you download it it won't install as it will detect your root. In order to update you will have to return to unrooted state. A search will show a couple of threads instructing how to.
From what I understand, as long as you haven't made any changes within the system folder or installed a custom recovery, the OTA should install just fine. Worst case is if anything has been changed, it will tell you and it won't install. But yes, you will lose root once it is installed.
root and ota should be ok.
but be very careful if your g3 is bumped!! if you had installed bump! on your device, an ota update fails and the reboot always ended in the recovery. i tried almost erverything - no way out. i had no chance to reboot into the system!!
only flashing back to stock had fixed the problem (incl. loosing all personal data).

When u are rooted, it will download the new update (ota), but it will give a error when it installs. You have to update via pc.

Just had this happen to me on LG G3 for AT&T
Was rooted, got prompted to install the update, I kept declining until it stopped asking.
Then my phone died, after plugging it in and restarting my phone, it instantly jumped into the update window with no other options.
It updated automatically, and it didn't stop or error because of my root. I'm on 4.2.2 now, most up-to-date version on AT&T.
To make it clear: I'm rooted with TowelRoot, NOT with Bump!

Still on jellybean...want to update to either kit kat or lollipop

EDIT: phone is currently unlocked/rooted
I've had a G2 since it almost came out, i don't have nearly the time to spend on here as i used to. Thus i've stuck with jellybean because everything works well and i have it set up how i want but it's a bit long in the tooth and the phone needs to have a full clean factory wipe so i figured i'd take the time to update to something newer.
My thought process is the following:
Save everything i want to keep and take off phone (including titanium backups)
Factory reset phone
Allow OTA updates to download and install
Then root
Then install custom roms (if i so choose)
Now fellow XDAers, anything wrong with my logic? I did do some reading and some searching and it seems like lollipop is rootable with a script and i can install customer recoverys with a script as well. I'd like the phone to still be able to unlock and root my device.
Thanks for any help and/or links to tutorials.
I am not sure but I think OTA updates need a unrooted system with stock recovery.
I had a rooted KK and I could not OTA to LP because the download was over 1.5 GBs!
The best solution may be to back everything up, connect the phone to LG Tools, and choose the upgrade recovery method to get the latest ROM for your phone.

Update and keep ROOT?

I just got my K20 Plus from Metro a couple days ago. So far I'm loving this phone.. I have already unlocked the bootloader, installed TWRP and Supersu, and rooted. I feel so free with this device as i haven't had an unlocked rooted device since my Galaxy Nexus years ago.
Anyway, I'm currently running Android 7.0, but it keeps bugging me to update, which I'm presuming is for 7.1. Can i safely install the update? Or will i lose my root if i do? I thought about installing Magisk, but I'm not really sure that i need to, plus i don't really want to reset again if it's not necessary.
Also, i got my wife the same phone and was in the process of rooting hers too, but she was getting anxious and wanted to start using it. So i got as far unlocking it and flashing TWRP, but that was it. Hers is also asking for an update. If i install the update on her phone, will it prevent me from finishing the root process later?
I have the same ph but T-Mobile variant.
I used this link to get the latest OTA update using .kdz file. But I had to re-root and start fresh but not such a big deal to do. As long as I back up my sms on the sdcard, I did not care.

You could try flashfire.
