Kitkat 4.4.2 update for s4 i9500 - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello ...
About the new official update for S4 I9500XXUFNB3 I have 2 questions
1-If I have a rooted device with JB 4.3 and I flashed it , what happens ? the root access will be denied ? I think yes
and is there any root way ?
2- and this is the most important , I read that ART is not supported yet in this version , so should I wait it to be supported or it will not be available ?
Thanks

If you have a rooted device then you are not able to receive OTA updates and if you received and updated you will stuck in a bootloop so unroot then update and the reroot(not in same method)
And Yes if you update the firmware you will lose root.

and what is the recovery should I use ? (CWM or TWRP or what ? )
I want to update it using odin (what do you prefer ?)
Please help me

if u flash a rom via Odin, and the rom is not pre rooted, then u always will loose root..
There's no need to unroot ur phone,as it automatically will loose root..
As for.rooting 4.4.2, once the rom gets out,so will its rooting methods...
if u want stable recovery,go for cwm
if u want recovery with more features,go for twrp..
What do I prefer?I prefer flashing rom via recovery, since chances of failure from that is slim..

[Q] To root again after official update or not?

Hi
I have an I9505 which was at 4.3 by default. I used the CF-Auto-Root-jflte-jfltexx-gti9505.tar to root it and after that i updated it with odin and I9505XXUFNB8_I9505TSIFNB1_I9505XXUFNB8_HOME.tar that i got from sammobile.com .
now I don't know that after updating official rom, i'm rooted or not?!!
I flashed Trwap recovery again. I don't know that can i flash a custome rom now with it or i have to root again? if YES, the CF-Auto-Root-jflte-jfltexx-gti9505.tar will work again with android 4.4.2 or not?
thanks

There is an app called Root Checker which does what the name says. Usuallly, you can preserve root while upgrading if you got SuperSU Pro and have "Survival Mode" enabled.
You don't need to root for flashing a custom rom. You can just flash from the recovery.
Thanks
I flashed a new rom

Hi ,
Once you upgrade your bootloader is not possible to go back to 4..2.2 (or 4.3)
You upgrade your bootloader if:
Flash a stock rom 4.3 and higher
you do not upgrade your bootloader if:
root , install custom recovery and flash a custom rom , there are a few good rom based in samsung stock 4.3 and 4.4.2 you can try them see if you like them and if you don't you can always flash stock 4.2.2 and be as you were
Ok, so essensialy i can't downgrade the bootloader to 4.2.
but a official 4.2.2 firmware (without knox) will work on a 4.4 bootloader ??? (again i don't care about knox working or not)

It has been done to 4.3 in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2744061
they have flashed a 4.3 ROM without bootloader over a 4.4 ROM so the result is a 4.3 rom with a 4.4 bootloader

HI ,
Mate if you flash with Odin or OTA (kies) you will change the bootloader , ok? so once you have a 4..4 bootloader installed there is no way to install back a 4,2,2 stock ( official ) firmware , 4.4.2 official firmware includes 4.4.2 bootloader and flashing an older bootloader than the one you have is not possible (yet)
your options are:
4.2.2 bootloader
stay there do nothing
Upgrade to official 4.4 and not be able to downgrade to 4.2.2 official
root , install CWM and install any custom rom you want ( 4.2.2 , 4.3 or 4.4.2 and 4.4.4 ) and if you do not like any of them go back to official 4.2.2
Once you upgrade to official 4.4.2 there is no way to go back to official 4.2.2 , the only way to go back to 4.2.2 would be with a custom rom

If i understood right, you are saying that can be done if i flash a custom rom as intermediate step between official 4.4 and official 4.2 ??

No . I did not say that
Once you are in an official 4.4.2 firmware , the only way to use a 4.2.2 rom would be by flashing an un official 4.2.2 custom rom

I need your support in downgrading from official Lolipop to Kitkat

Hello guys,
I have a note 3 n9005 model I decided to update my firmware with the recently released Polish lolipop firmware using odin and everything was great, after 3 days of use it appears that lollipop is a bit laggy and sometimes hangs for a while that's why I want downgrade to Kitkat, also i would like to mention that I have updated the bootloader while flashing by ticking the update bootloader button in odin.
Now what's the possibilities of using odin again to downgrade to official Kitkat using one package file?
If not possible what if I have flashed a separate bootloader file then used odin with official kitkat is that even possible ?
Furthermore, I was thinking about rooting my Lollipop then flash a custom recovery and then wipe data and cache to install a flashable custom Kitkat.
My request is that I need someone experienced to confirm with me on what should I do without risking bricking my N3, I'm going to die with it if it's bricked
Thanks in advance for your support.
Regards,
Where is the great supporters ? Not even a one reply :crying:

If you have the right answer please answer it with prove, if not this thread is not for bored ppl that don't provide any fruitful feedback.
