KitKat! - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) General

Hi guys,
"Samsung has just unveiled the full list of devices that will get updated to Android KitKat, and confirmed that updates start rolling out today".
And guess who is in that list??
http://www.phonearena.com/news/Sams...vices-roll-out-starts-today-in-the-US_id52754

Wow.. that's a great news... Thanks..

GREAT

But will it also give us the UI of the Notepro 12.2 ?

what is good about kitkat vs JB?

Should be smoother and the Magazine UI. Kitkat was designed to work on lower spec devices than Jelly Bean. There are man many more differences. If you check Wikipedia, they do a good job of listing the changes.

My note 3 with kitkat is definitively smoother responsive and the battery is much better even without the ART runtime.

My Device - Samsung Galaxy S Duos 2

Now THIS is news worth waking up to. I just got my 10.1 last week, and was impatiently waiting for M-UX. I loved using it at CES.

Excellent. Hopefully we won't have to wait too long for someone to grab the file we can use in Odin
KitKat on my Nexus 5 FLIES.

I will get mine tomorrow. Should I root my first, then update? Or just directly update.

Got my note 10.1 2014 a couple of weeks ago and love our. Hopefully I can get kit Kat on it soon. I'm itching to get kitkat on one of my devices. And being that my att s4 had is with att, I doubt I will get that soon.

Thanks. In that case, if I root the tablet now, can I get the Kitkat update when it is available? I am really a new comer to these things.

Not sure if you need to bother rooting, since the device rocks already IMO. I use Nova UI, so even better for me.

When rooted you can download winamp exposed and under system hacks you can click system status to official. It will make the tab think it isn't rooted. Then u can still get ota. You will have to root again after downloading but that doesn't take long

You will need to flash the New Firmware+ new bootloader via Odin from a PC. But you will be able to run KitKat in your device

I don't think the OTA will actually install though. I think just re-enables the ability to check for them. I could be wrong, but that was my understanding of it.
I'm used to the Nexus world where none of this **** matters, lol

OK, so I am running the Italian ROM and have rooted my Rogers 7500 tab and all is running very well; will I gain anything by "upgrading" to the newly released Canadian ROM?
Thanks
For what it was worth I was running a rooted tab with CWM installed and the update to 4.04 went smooth as butter for me, and it even kept root and all my apps that require root. No issues whatsoever.
It is MUCH better now than with 3.2 btw

Lol I hate that the 3G people are able to get it before the wifi people. I initially gotten the wifi tablet because I was under the assumption that Samsung would release it first because Rogers would have to do their thing to it which would take twice as long.
Oh well my Nexus 7 is easing the stress of Samsung.

I got tired of waiting when I heard the update was pushed back to September so I went ahead and installed the Pershoot CM10 rom. Now its going to be a tough decision to go back and install the official ICS update. Either way, getting the Tab off Honeycomb made a huge difference.

And Rogers released 2 days ago according to OP. Where do they find this kind of farfetched mis-information? I know that all dates are tentative, but this is where they wet their thumbs, stick em up in the air and guess what weather it is in the Antarctic...
I am still hoping for a very near P7510 ICS release, or CM10, with limited Camera functionality, will be the way to go... Not that I won't go that path anyhoo...
With cm9 (7510) pretty much fully functional now I'm done with my weekly restores to 3.2 . When the 7510 ics releases I'll grab it just to have for warrenty purpose and upload it for people who forget to backup before they play but all the apps I use from the stock us rom work on cm9 from TB backups. Heck can even install apex launcher and touchwiz addon for the Samsungish look :good:
I am running stock US and am already over my warranty period. Lol, screw the wait! There is so much good stuff here I dont think I could go back if I tried. Once the stock firmware is available tho I will do what bertie is doing and just grab the TAR.
Cool

[Q] Nexus 7 Getting 4.2 on Nov 13?

WIll the Nexus 7 be getting 4.2 ota on November 13 to match the Nexus 4 and 10? Thanks.
Yes it will come with 4.2 jelly bean .
I mean for current Nexus 7 users...
I'm curious too. I really want to try it out. I'm guessing since its a nexus device, it should come down too, or at least have an official flash image since they are bringing out Nexus 7 32gb devices.
yea, worst case scenario the newer devices will have a short exclusivity window of a couple weeks. But being a nexus device, we WILL get it shortly
Fingers crossed.
My question is do I need to unroot my tablet in order to get the OTA?
I would much rather be on stock 4.2 than rooted 4.1.2

Nexus 7 JB 4.2 ROM
I am a rom developer for the Nexus 7 and as of right now am working on an experimental 4.2 ROM port the device. I downloaded the nexus 4 system dump earlier today and I am already making great progress to getting this ported. The only problems are: 1. The Quick settings status bar feature is not working. 2.Since im porting parts from a phone, it wont have the multi-user GUI that 4.2 for tablets is shipping stock with, but there is alternatives. I WILL UPLOAD THE FIRST VERSION OF 4.2 FOR THE NEXUS7 TONIGHT!!! (and if i dont, i'll have it up tomorrow). Reply to this if you would like to know more. That's a really old release of 4.1.2. There are loads of 4.1.2 updates since then. That will be what you are getting prompted for. You're 6 months out of date.
I've been wondering when were they thinking about releasing this since the leak has been around since february (i think) and the S4 has been released already. But to be honest, I couldn't care less about those "features" for an update, all i want is multitasking fixed. Which i'm fairly sure we won't get. Samsung should stick with fixing the basics instead or pushing out mostly useless crap. Guess i'll stick with aosp and just get a nexus at some point...

Your point was Kies tells you there is an update and that it must be 4.2
My point is you are on a 6 month old release. Any update Kies tells you available is not 4.2. It is one of the 30 4.1.2 releases newer than yours.

I did think about that since i read somewhere about the extra sensors involved, i just thought they'd adapt or disable functions that really required them or at least do it in a different way that wouldn't need said sensors - there's software to mesure heart rate with the camera, which isn't the most conventional way and, to be honest, if someone told me before that was possible i'd most likely dismiss it as a prank app/gimmick, but i did see it roughly working

My apologies for sounding lazy (I am not, and quick search didn't yield results for me), but can you refer to that post, please? Not by SamMobile or the likes (there are tons of links to those "insider news"), but directly by Samsung? I am definitely not expecting 5.0, but even for 4.2.2, I have to admit, I am as skeptical as I am hopeful at this time...

I think 4.2.2 for S2 it will be the end of this year or early next year , currently I'm still waiting for 4.1.2 for my unbranded S2 and still many country are waiting , very slow update .

Personally, I couldn't care less about the update timeline for specific regions or carriers, and I see absolutely no reason for waiting... As soon as the first official release drops (for whatever region), it will become available for download and flashing. That's all I need. And shortly after, modded ROMs based on that stock release will appear.

wait for 2 days

after 2 days note 2 get 4.3 official released

only we have to do is to be patient: Rire:
Could we see the source of this information? I'm just curious, because I've been trying to find out if there's been any official release date for ages.
Also, if this is true, is it worldwide?

It looks like Samsung is going to release uncompleted roms...
Today they started rolling out the S3 one that is missing Knox and interesting features from s4/note3....
The same looks for Note 2... maybe Mj5 was a release candidate...
They are going to give us just a "core" refresh, porting 4.3 to their touchwiz rom ... for compatibility with Gear.
Just my impressions.

We don't want facts and sources to get in the way of some one padding their post count.

My battery drain is normal and with google now active no problem.
I installed the latest gsearch/launcher & play services from kitkat and I've a smooth experience.
The new launcher is snappy and smooth on cyanogenmod, maybe the 4.1.2 libs were not ready for it.

It's my turn
I kinda get the feeling that this update wouldn't have the new S Note, making it a huge let down for me... At least the leaked 4.3 doesn't have it.
The more things change the more they stay the same..Or what do expect from 4.3? 4.3 will be not able to toast bread or to cool my coka cola
