Unlocking - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I would be most appreciative if you could help me please.
I have a SIM blocked Note 3 that I bought and used while in Southern Europe. I wish to unblock the phone. I have tried two internet companies one that refunded my money saying the IMEI was not in their data base the other company took the cash via Paypal and never even replied. :crying:
I understand that in the UK there are high street shops that can unlock a SIM locked phone for a fee? Would any of you know of such a shop around the area of Birmingham in the West Midlands of the UK. I will be there for four days next month.
Many thanks for your kind attention and help.

There's loads of phone shops and a few market stalls around Birmingham City Centre that will unlock it for you.

I would be a little suspicious of ANY form of unlocking done without codes - as far as I know for the moment all the "cable-unlocking' methods are very buggy and at the very least will result in knox 0x1.

Most phone shops around the UK will use codes now rather than the old fashioned cable method. Hence them charging 30-40quid as opposed to the fiver they used to charge for a cable unlock.

Just sent them the cash! I checked the IMEI number first and it identified it so should be no problems, fingers crossed!
Just waiting now for the codes.
Thanks to all those who were kind enough to reply. I appreciate your support and information. Great community.
Best wishes,

Okay...........Four codes have been sent. Network, provider, sub-provider and defreeze.
I followed the instructions on the Youtube video and BINGO, the first code unlocked the phone for other chips from different providers to be used. Fantastic. Should I be doing something with the other three codes?
I do have a problem though. When the phone is turned on I still get the initial screen of the original server PLUS all their applications showing on the screens. I have deleted the applications BUT still cannot find a way to remove the original screen that shows the old server every time I power the phone on plus when I start to use the phone with the new SIM card the applications for the old server start to download again?
Rather a puzzle? It is painfully obvious I am well out of my league with this and ponder if I may again request further support? I hope not to push my luck with you guys and gals.
Many thanks,
Ryland

I truly appreciate the reply. I don't really understand it though. What is "Odin 3.09" . My phone is not rooted, I don't root my phones. If I did that I would negate my two year warranty.
I would imagine your kind instructions apply to rooted mobiles?
Software is by far my strongest point, as you can see

ODIN///Odin is developed by Samsung to help its android smartphone users to update its firmwares. It is an alternative to the Samsung Kies mini and is a very handy tool to update your phone. It is a free to use software that runs on the Windows operating system. Simply download ODIN and install is the best available option for flashing a custom ROM. Flashing is a term that is part of the ever-growing mobile lingo dictionary and it means updating or modifying your firmware; stored in the flash memory or the ROM of your smartphone.
The step by OP is too long and not necessarily.
Simple step to install Official Poland 4.4.2 KitKat ROM:
Download Official Poland Single file KitKat 4.4.2 ROM.
Download and install Odin3 v3.09
Extract once the downloaded KitKat ROM.
Open Odin and load the firmware at AP.
Tick Phone Bootloader Update.
Click start and wait until it finish.
1. Download the firmware here and extart/// http://rapidgator.net/file/32c9439c4023fe52b8db1a1e4b432456
2. Unzip the zip file, and you will get two files with the extension .tar.md5 and a file with the extension .tar
3. Download Odin 3.09 and extart/// https://mega.co.nz/#!UdRRyCAT!H4FyVxYynNWvXqRNmnpMGQRCP-dG3uykgP2pT4rh8Ek
4. Launch Odin.
5. Reboot your Galaxy Note 3 in download mode (Volume Down + Power + Home button).
6. Connect your Galaxy Note 3 via USB cable to your computer and wait for Odin to recognize it. A blue box should then appear (in the program).
7. Add:in odin click AP get your firmware
also look at the picture and you can get videos on youtube

Hellooooo.
Started the process last evening and finally got to bed like 12 hours latter at 09.00 this morning.
Some how I ended up with malware? AWSOMEHP! Dear me it took me hours and hours to get rid of that crap. I am hopeless with this software.
It took nearly 4 hours to download the firmware, it then went to WinRAR and I cant open it?
I downloaded the Odin programme but it would not allow me to click the 'phone bootloader update'.
I gave it my best shot but dare not brick my phone so didn't touch that.
One thing. When KitKat comes naturally to my Note 3 will that update automatically remove the old servers files? IF this process can be done naturally' upon update to KitKat in my case it would be better to wait.
You see what happens is you guys and gals take what you do with this technology as easy as ridding a bike. Jargon is used that is absolutely above my head. I have looked at the video clip kindly referenced above so many times yet the speed that guy wizzes through stuff. I pause try to find do what he is doing BUT his PC is NOT running Windows 8.2. I have no idea what he runs but its not the same OS I have.
Some things in life need to be performed by people with the knowledge. I did not give up lightly but after seeing that clip and the possibilities of bricking the phone then having to do this and do that? No way Jose! Each to their own and this is not my profession so I am snookered.
Thank you for the time you ave taken in helping and supporting me. I sincerely appreciate your time. :good:

SIM Unlock MyTouch (Use of foreign sim cards)

I logged in today and was surprised to see these three new threads about this already well known topic. So I'm going to try to put an end to this by merging all of the "Help me unlock my MyTouch" topics into this one thread and stickie it so that I can just move future posts directly to the trash. So be warned, any future posts regarding SIM unlocking WILL be removed!
The very first rule of the XDA-Developers forum is to search before posting.
So I figure that if this is stickied then there really isn't any excuse whatsoever.
While I'm doing all of this I want to clearify something for all of those that are interested in unlocking their MyTouch.
Currently (as of July 2010) there is no solution for unlocking your MyTouch without first acquiring the Subsidy key for your device.
There are no hardware hacks, software installations or anything like that.
You really only have four options.
Contact your carrier and request it. Most carriers have minimum requirements to be met before requesting. Check with your carrier for additional information.
Use of third party services (go ahead post your success in this thread).
Use of an overlay card. (I have not personally verified this method)
Purchase the device already unlocked.
If you have a successful result then post it in this thread and I'll update this post accordingly.
Please note that myself, other members or the XDA-Developers do not take responsiblity for failed efforts, damage to your device, money wasted or anything else that might make you upset.
Any new posts regarding anything already discussed in this topic will be subject to deletion without warning!
As stated above, I merged three three new topics and moved them to this thread.
I have tried several service and got a code that did not work. (another gave me another set and still didnt work). All had to go the the htc master database to get the code

Hi All,
I had used the search and found out that all the questions regrading Tmobile HTC mytouch sim unlock were refferd to pay-sites.
Is this true? did non of the forum members das an answer?
and if so, What is the most reliable site for this ?
I got a TMobile htc Mytouch 3g and I can not use it.
(I noticed that other members had said that all TMobile's MyTouch are sim free, well mine is not).
Please help.

You could use something like a TurboSIM. It's a small film-like device that goes between the SIM card and the reader in your phone, forcing your phone to accept it. I don't know if all/any work on android/sapphire so you'd need to get a second opinion before ordering.
The only HTC Sapphires that come unlocked are the 'Google ION'/ADP2 devices, so yes you'll need to buy an unlock code. If you've been with tmo for more than 3 months phone them and say you're going out of the country, they should give you the code. If you're looking for a reputable company for unlock codes, go on eBay, that way you know the testimonials and feedback is real.
I've used SIM unlock services from ebay. Cost about $10 and was fairly painless. Had to try a few different sellers since the others couldn't find the code. HTC master key had to be used in order to get the code for mine, that's why they charged $10 instead of the usual $2-3.
Even at $10, I found it to be a lot cheaper and effective than other website prices.

also, i just canceled my tmo service and its expiring at the end of this month. had tmo for almost a year. do you think theyll give me the subsidy key? and last question, is the subsidy key the imei or is that the real unlock code for it?
thanks

3G will probably not work for another carrier if that's what you're asking.
If you are no longer a T-Mo subscriber then they will probably not give you the key.
You submit the imei to the unlock service (carrier or whoever) and they use that to look up your devices specific unlock key. Takes anywhere from a few minutes to a few days to get it though.
thanks for the info. sucks that i cant get the code from tmo. i should of gotten it before i told them to cancel my service. ill probably just use this phone for backup or something. i dont feel like i want to part with my first android device lol
root / upgrade locks me back?
I have an HTC Magic from Rogers Canada that I got unlocked as soon as I bought it. I need it unlocked since I am living over 5000 miles away from Canada. Everything is all well and nice now, working on the local carrier 3g and all.
I have been considering rooting the phone or maybe installing an unofficial ROM for a while now, but I never ended up doing it for fear my phone might get locked back to Rogers, rendering it useless for me.
What are the risks of this actually happening? Is the phone unlock a permanent operation, or are there any.types of upgrade or root that could bring the lock back?
Thanks!

Once you unlock the phone for other carriers it stays unlocked regardless of rom.
LOL
Anyway, There was a reason for my posting.
I ended up getting the unlock code from T-mobile and it is the exact number that I got from the unlocking service which did not work in the first place.
So I am wondering if the problem now lies in the fact that I rooted the phone and installed 3rd party rom before I unlocked the phone.

I can only agree. I don't see how that would be possible since the subsidy has nothing to do with the type of spl, radio version or rom.
the unlock code has nothing to be with rom... spl or radio only imei

Sounds like something that I had just said.
Success!!
Website: www.unlock2go.com
Cost: $20 USD
Delivery time: instant (even on a Saturday evening at 8:30pm)
Important note: I selected "T-Mobile" as the carrier, and then MyTouch 3G as the manufacturer, NOT HTC. Not sure if this matters, but thought I'd pass along that info.
Good luck!
Edit: So far we have 2 confirmed success cases. Anyone else that uses it please post up - would be nice to confirm reliability for everyone.
Hey Thanks for the site I used them and received the code less than thirty mins
I can also confirm unlock2go.com works! for Mytouch 3g
Sent them my payment 19-08-2010 at 11:40 pm EST and got the code by 11:50 pm !!!! all I can say is wow, it now recognizes my SIM in Colombia.
Tip: I used promo code unlock30 and got $2 off (paid $18).
Help! now that the phone is unlocked I'm stuck because I've got no data plan, and I can't find the way to go to Wifi, or even make a regular call. All the guides I find assume the phone is already working, but my menu, or home keys don't do nothing I get back to the green robot screen.
Any pointers will be greatly appreciated.

UK Network unlocking

Hi all
Just bought a second hand Xperia Play locked on Orange and want to unlock it to get it on Tesco Mobile.
The cheapest I've found so far is £27! Is there anything any better than that anyone's come across?
Take it into an orange shop, they will unlock it for you for lyk 10 - 15 quid

Really? Won't I need to have bought it from them, and have had it for a reasonable amount of time?
A bit offtopic here: If the carrier unlocks your phone, will you be able to enter fastboot mode ? Or does it still count as "SIM locked" ?

No dice - I tried calling Orange but they wouldn't unlock it as it hasn't been in service for 3 months.
They also told me to try a local phone unlocking shop! I tried two - they were both £35-40, and said it would take a couple of weeks to turn around. One of them also said the unlocking database/tool hadn't been released yet.
Anyone come across a better UK alternative?
mobile_cellution on Ebay is the one to beat at £27.99...

Main reason I always phones handset only. I move house often so I don't want to sign on a contract when I won't necessary get a signal. And after my problems with three I just learned to say no.
Yep same problem here. Probably going to use these guys http://www.somobile.co.uk/sony+ericsson/xperia+play/ but it's so damn expensive
Hi all
Just to let you know I used cellunlocker.net (a US site) with Paypal - it cost about £24. Their communication isn't great - you need to give them your Serial no, not just the IMEI, and the code and instructions they gave me were a bit garbled, but it worked out and my phone is unlocked! Good luck!

How long did it take? and when I enter my imei it says "not found"

Three UK (Hutchinson 3G - H3G) and flashing.

Hey guys,
I think I've finally settled on the S4 after trying and comparing it to the HTC One yesterday. It just felt far better in my hand and the screen was beautiful.
Now in the UK, as I'm sure many of you guys know (correct me if I'm wrong), but the best contract deal to have for tethering is the One plan by Three.
Unlimited data + tethering, a rare jewel indeed. As to whether they throttle during peak times, well you can't have everything and I haven't found any conclusive evidence to suggest they do so, please link me if I'm wrong here.
Either way, I am limited on my options here, due to my tethering requirements.
However the only thing preventing me from getting a Three phone is the fact that places like Phones4U or Carphone Warehouse either don't stock them or only stock SIM locked versions with branded firmwares for Three phones. Apparently they use a different method of sim locking the device, I can't be too sure what though.
Anyway, so it seems that whichever way I go about it, if I want data, I'll have a sim locked phone (they unlock after 3 months). This doesn't worry me though, what worries me is any restrictions on flashing the device.
I'm coming from an SGS - i9000. A device that seemed unbrickable and flashable every which way, from radio, to kernel, recovery and general software.
I want to know, are there any restrictions on flashing custom kernels, recoveries, modems (radios) or general firmwares that anyone has encountered, or am I safe getting a phone from Three UK (HG3)?
Rant over, sorry .
I have searched the forums and I haven't been able to find definite information.

'Tar very much! That's great news. I had heard rumours there were ways to bypass simlock via software hacks, however I had never really needed to use them. I doubt the sim lock will cause a problem for me. More a case of who I pass it on to!

Was that in store or on the phone? I ordered over the phone and confirmed with them the phone would be unlocked and unbranded, for which my one is.
Maybe there policy has changed since I bought mine, give them a call Monday and ask the question.

Wait so are you on Three? If so, please check if your firmware is a branded one and whether your phone is sim locked. I assume the branded firmware will have some Three apps somewhere.
It's great news if they gave you a fully debranded and unlocked version!

Wait so are you on Three? If so, please check if your firmware is a branded one and whether your phone is sim locked. I assume the branded firmware will have some Three apps somewhere.

SGS4, rooted but cant unlock sim since contract end

I have had my SGS4 but used as stock as not felt the need to to root it, when my sim contract ended i cancelled it and have decided to sell the handset, i came here to unlock it as i have done with many other phones, i have tried both methods of sim unlock available but it would seem they have been patched by samsung, i next thought that rooting the device would get the phone unlocked somehow. Initially i thought there was something wrong with the phone as when i put in another sim it says that no sim card is inserted, the phone was originally on Tmobile UK and i upgraded to EE from phones4u..the SGS4 was not purchased from a Tmobile store and was bought online..i took it to shop today and they put in a active tmobile sim and it worked perfectly..so i guess that some sims are showing point blank as not inserted and some are requesting a sim unlock code (02 sim), how can i now go about unlocking this phone ?
Thanks.
EDIT:
Some extra info...further reading seems to suggest i need to downgrade the modem but i have read in a thread thats not possible now ?

I have no idea where you have bought the phone from, but for me - obviously from TMo as the phone is locked with them.
Again, I have no idea how it is with TMo, but O2 UK have the policy that after half term of contract, if you'll call them, they are providing you the sim unlock code for free (they done it for my HD2 and later for I9300). Most likely, you have to call the TMo customer support for that.
My wife paid them £20, had to wait 20 days, then found out they mucked up, and had to wait another 20 days.
I would prefer not to pay, i am pretty sure Tmobile are not going to unlock for free, i will try though.
I find it hard to believe there is not a hack of some sort now my phone is rooted, other than the code and system menu method (which is patched now) i cant find any solid guide
EDIT: Basically they want £20 to unlock, which i politley told them to poke up their bum
Im like that when I go to shell and fill up my X5.

Please mind your language in with the sausages, she wont be paying attention, you wont get any money off but youll get some gratification from it.
I have helped you out twice now..you have helped me zero..any chance ??

I don't understand why they just don't give users the option to flash to the stock vanilla android and allow them to install which Samsung tweaks they want and don't want to use.
You could try inserting something else into your phone.

Unlock Network Locked Galaxy S4 i9505

Hi All
I bought this i9505 a couple of years back and have been using on EE network (UK) - the handset is locked to EE and I would now like to unlock to use on O2 (UK). In order to get EE to unlock it - they insist on charging the owner on their next monthly bill for the service. I am no longer in touch with the original owner... so does anyone have any ideas how I can unlock this?
I have tried the posts which show to unlock in service mode - but this doesnt work (at least not for me!).
Does anyone know of any company that can unlock via IMEI or other service?
Thanks in advance.
S
Do a search for "Triangle Away" in both the SIM unlocking thread and the forums in general. Should be plenty of information in both places to assist you.
Us lucky S4 owners and our ability to unlock the phone without paying for it.
On a serious note, he may have to pay up if the SIM unlock method we use here doesn't work.

Or you can simply buy an unlocking code. I got my Galaxy S6 unlocked a few months ago (and a few other phones) using some online providers. If you want, I can recommend you some.

Thanks Andrew - are you in the UK? If so please do let me know which service you used as the couple I have tried take the IMEI number then route you through to lots of phishing websites wanting you to complete surveys etc... if you know a service that is safe in UK then I really dont mind paying (a little )
If you go to sammobile.com, they have an unlock service there you can use. Cost I believe is around the 20USD mark (13.30GBP) for the most basic option, though they do have quicker options that cost more.

Hey,
Sorry for the late response, I was away for the past week. So, the website is www.unlockunit.com, if you still need to unlock your phone. There wasn't any survey to complete, just an order form.
