Lenovo bought Moto - Moto G General

After Lenovo bought Moto, the price will be lower?

Its already at a good price . Not sure if price drops will happen any time soon .

If anything seeing the popularity in Indian Market...They might consider increasing the price LoL.
And I don't think Lenovo would want to do anything different from whatever moto is already doing..Since moto is having quite a good rep for its devices in US......they don't wanna take risks with that Since some americans get bothered by Chinese manufacturers

Actually Google has bought a percentage of Lenovo, so I don't think so.

To Latin America Fellows

Hello guys.
As I could see from the Marquees Brownlee hangout video conference with the Motorola CEO, it seems they (Motorola/Google) are targeting and very excited with the Latin American market, especially Brazil, pretty much than any other company.
Finally a company that could see the real value this market has.
So, expect good things from them.
Also, the Latin America market had the greatest increase in mobile consuming the last months and is expected to have it higher than anybody else in the next year. So expect companies to focus better on us.
Last but not least, the Moto X is among the top sellers phones in Brazil and Chile. This might mean something from a market with almost 300.000.000 phones.
Almost forgot, here is the video:
Abraços!

That's really cool. Moto G it's coming to destroy the low end market, and the Moto X it is the best phone that you can buy for a very fair price here in Chile.
I hope that KitKat comes early here.
You can try tmobile kitkat, works great with Claro 4g.
That what i keep saying in +. Portuguese is one of the three official languages that Moto X supports. But we still have lazy commands with Moto X and also Motomaker will never happen here. Of course the focus is on US but can be the only one. I hope that they can realise that here we enjoy tech as many american customers.
I have Virgin 3g. Can wok it?
I think they strategy for Brazil is being excellent. First the Razr phones started to sell quite well and for a decent price, and now they are heavily promoting the Moto X and G and for much better prices than the crap Samsung phones. I hope they do well.

Moto X voice commands relies much on the Google Search. Thats why a lot of commands dont work for us. But that is starting to change. The latest Google Search update added a lot of new Portuguese commands for us and this tends to grow a lot in the comming weeks.

Actually in the video, Motorola CEO emphasizes that they are working very hard to bring the Motomaker to Brazil, as the phones sold here are produced here aswell. He puts it in a way that it looks like that it is the next step of the company, bringing it here.

Just ordered My Moto X Dev Edition

Joining the club... Hopefully this is the one.
Selling my HTC one because I cannot stand the button on the top and the damn lack of cases and such.
So...since I just dropped 400 bucks on this badboy, can you guys share your experience to calm my wallet nerves?
My dev edition Moto x is on the truck for delivery. Selling my Droid maxx (4.4 unrooted).
Gonna miss the battery life, would have got a dev edition maxx if they were in stock. But I lived with a galaxy nexus for 2 years so should be good with the X.
The droid is the same hardware with a bigger screen (same resolution, higher PPI on the moto x = sharper images without having to stretch to reach the corners), so I know I'm gonna love the experience, with the added bonus of being able to root no matter what update they send out.
Stock rom and xposed is the sweet spot on these devices!
I grabbed the Dev edition during that $100 off/1 hour promo ... Had the Note 3 at the time and thought that the x would be a 14 day experiment. A week later I listed my N3 on Swappa! Loving the x!!

I ditched my Note 3 for the GSM DE. I'm not regretting it. The Moto X has proven to me that thoughtful engineering (both hardware and software) beats anything that is the result of competition in the "spec wars".

Of course 'within reason'. If you physically fry your phone cause you rooted and did such: they're not going to warranty the physical damage. However if it's software like in the simple case where it bootloops over a single value recursive value then they're not going to be as adamant in denying you if you own the DE phone. Unlike the case with returns where you're forwarded a code: you'll simply send in the phone and wait for repairs like typical cases with phone repairs.

wont taxes vary by location? Example, PA has 6% sales taxes, where DE has 0%.
Web site says $379.99 * Taxes and shipping charges may apply. At one time (back when I got my X Dev Ed) moto did have free shipping on orders above a certain amount, and it was posted on their web site. Its not posted now, so I'm not sure if they still have it.
I got rid of my Note 3 for the GSM DE as well. I never regret that decision.

Moto were giving $70 discount for the moto x so it came to $379 + taxes and shipping extra.. This price was 32gb of the GSM model as well as the developer edition. Now there is no offer.

MOTO360 - Google or Lenovo?

Hi all,
I wanted more information about this specific thing that comes up on google searches about motorola and android wear.
Have any of you noticed that Moto360 and Motorola are still being branded as a "Google company"? What gives?
I'm wary of purchasing the Moto360 cause essentially, Lenovo is taking over debuting this summer. How would warranty then work? Customer service? Replacements? Google has been fantastic for the most part with replacements and warranty, also pricing, so who would then take the lead for the Moto360 in the summer? Through Lenovo or Google?
Thanks for all your comments!
whoever is in charge of this, im going for it!

this branding for the moto360 will have been in the works for months, so it's easy to think that the Google Company thing is just there due to being done before the sale to Lenovo. AFAIK the only thing google kept from Motorola was the advanced stuff for project tango and some patents.

For sure, but post-Google, doesn't it worry you? Who will fulfil the replacements, warranties, etc.? Google will only keep doing it for so long. The after-service, customer service, etc. I would imagine Google and Lenovo incorporated in the Motorola resale contract the exact responsibilities, but it would seriously blow if Lenovo takes over Moto360's aftermath! Unless Google keeps the smart-watch department, but I highly doubt Lenovo would accept a rebuy condition without one of the fastest and promising area.....
Lenovo did buy Motorola, but the actual transfer won't happen until 2 years after the agreement. Even if Google launched the product through Motorola, Motorola is still technically the manufacturer, so I'm pretty sure when you want to get something replaced, it's Motorola, whether it's Google or Lenovo.

That makes sense, but I have been told by many who own Motorola devices, that the post-purchase servicing is fulfilled by Google at this stage. Apparently a lot of their replacement units came from Google packaged shipments as opposed to Motorola packaged goods. Could that have been just a temporary thing or not? Essentially, in the supply-chain industry, whatever that is cheaper will ultimately succeed in the manufacturing process... so don't hold your breathe for Motorola to keep its high standards when switching over to Lenovo...
Moto360
Even if it is Lenovo making the Moto360, wouldn't they essentially be using the same parts that Google/Motorola were planning on using since this has been in the making prior to the buyout?
Google is more exclusive than lenovo i think..
not google, i think its motorola, but when lenovo buy motorola, it will belong to lenovo. Remeber, IBM thinkpad, its now different before

Let's hope google does continue otherwise we could be stuck with a model of moto360 not as high in quality. Essentially lenovo would own Motorola and determine quality etc.. Remember, money talks, bull**** walks. So I won't be surprised if Motorola is forced to make lesser quality watches once lenovo takes over

Makes sense but the point is that ultimately, if lenovo chooses to cut back on moto funding, we could end up with cheap plastic materials *ahem samsung* as opposed to premium materials like Google and apple are used to using

Im just going to clear this up because it doesnt look like it has been ITT. Google only sold part of Motorola. They kept the parts that are currently developing projects (i.e. Project ARA, Moto360, etc.)
Probably from Google. These things take years, and Android wear was shown off only weeks after the acquisition was public.

Buying Zefone 2, is it good decision

My nexus 5 gave up on recognizing sim card and now its time to buy one. Today I was looking on Amazon for my new phone and I came across zenfone 2 for $199, is this a good deal? How do you compare with nexus 5? How good is this on T-Mobile network? Any other recommendation for any other phone under $250?
ZF2 is better than Nexus 5. But if I were you I would wait the Nexus 5 2015. Which is going to release 2 or 3 months. Probably. But If you say that I can not wait till the new nexus arrives than go and buy a ZF2.
Sent from my ASUS_Z00AD using XDA Free mobile app
Since they said the phone doesn't see the SIM card anymore, I doubt they can wait.
Another inexpensive option would be the Moto G 2015 model. It looks great for the price also. The ZenFone 2 is nice (but I'd spend the extra $100 for the next model up with better processor, more RAM and more storage).
go for it .... u won't regret but $299 option is better in terms of speed .... after using nexus u will understand the difference between nexus and budget range devices ...... but u can even have moto g 3rd gen $220 one or else go for its repairing if possible
yes for me
I absolutely love this phone, everyone seems to complain about the battery but for me it's fine. The quick charge resolves having to wait if your battery is drained.
Bang for the buck, hands down the ZF2, you won't find a phone with these specs at that price not to mention the dual-sim feature. I have two Moto G 3rd Gens, they are nice and battery is better but still no contest compared to my ZF2. Also, Asus has been pretty good at releasing firmware updates so that's a good sign.
Don't forget, forums always contain mostly negative comments so it's hard to base your decision on reading. Most people with positive comments don't really post their experience unless you're a tech junky like me
I was on nexus 5 since the screen broke. I decided to buy this one over a xiaomi mi4 and a meizu mx5. The experience in terms of quantity of tools or rom is poor compared to the google one but...

Agreed, I actually like the bloatware in this phone, they are somewhat useful, pclink is great. At least Asus gave us the option to turn them off in "autostart" more then what I can say for most other companies/couriers. Tools and rom can be changed, so I'm not too worry that Asus will improve on those.

Ah, gotcha lol yeah, screen replacement on any smartphone these days is not cheap.
I'm waiting for the 5.1 update or CM12 before I buy this phone. My current mobile is still working fine for basic functionality, so I can afford to wait
I have an HTC One which I'm looking to replace anytime soon because the battery is slowly dying. My first choice is the Zenfone2 64gb w/ 4gb ram next would be the Moto G 2015. I no longer want a flagship as they become obsolete after a year plus mid-range devices has a lot to offer nowadays. Seems like a lot of phone manufacturers are now targeting the mid-range area offering a great range of powerful phones at a cheaper price.
One thing that's holding me back in buying the Zenfone 2 is it was made by Asus. I have a Nexus 7 2013 which is no more than a year old with lots of issues like the unresponsive touchscreen, multi-touch issues, broken auto-rotate. All of which are experienced by a lot of Nexus 7 owners. What I couldn't handle is the nightmare of going thru Asus's after sales service.
Is there anyone here kind enough to give their insights about the current issues they have on this phone? I've read somewhere that battery life is an issue. Any defective batches/hardware issues or anything around that line that I should know before actually deciding to get this phone? As much as possible, I don't want to go thru their customer service ever again.
Kindly post the issues here as once I get this phone, I can no longer return it because consumer protection law sucks in my country. I only have 1 week outright replacement if the phone is defective after that I'm gonna be stuck with this phone forever

I ordered one for a relative (16GB/2GB Ram version) and its been fine so far. If you look through this forum and at reviews the main areas where the phone is lacking are the battery life (can be poor but generally inconsistent), not a great camera and the additional bloat apps that come preinstalled (some can be uninstalled or disabled or if you root you can remove them all together/freeze them).
I think all handsets have the odd bad batch here and there and there are some who are unlucky where they have a fault that means they have to return the device. I think if the battery life was sorted, it would help ease a lot of fears and make a lot of users more content. It can vary from person to person and it might not even bother you. Fingers crossed it can be improved in the next major update.
The new Motorola G looks decent, still waiting to see more in depth reviews but it seems to be getting good reports in the battery department. If I was buying it I would have to go for the 16GB/2GB ram model as 8GB is just not enough anymore, 16GB is just about manageable. Motorola should also provide decent updates I've been pretty tempted to get the 64GB/4GB ram Zenfone 2 myself, I dont particularly need an new device but it just seems such an attractive offer. I currently have a Oneplus One which is great and has the benefit of having an unlockable bootloader and plenty of roms to choose from. Currently I have switched back to a CM11(kitkat) rom for the best battery life as Lollipop just doesnt seem as good, so it doesnt just seem to be a problem specific to the Zenfone 2.
I'm not sure how much my rambling has helped, but at the moment I'm just hanging tight for now and scouring XDA every other day to see how things pan out for the ZF2! :silly:

The phone itself is fine. I like the fast-charging feature, and the battery is definitely better than my Nexus4, and it's pretty snappy (I have the 2GB version).
BUT, and this is a big but, Asus' customer support is just plain awful:
My 1-month-old phone started doing random shutdowns at least once a day (it won't even turn itself back on, I would manually turn it on again after noticing my phone's been off for the past 2 hours). After multiple emails back and forth they issued an RMA and I had to send the phone at my expense. Phone got back 10 days later, result? the issue is still there, and they're still avoiding sending me a replacement.
In my opinion buy from a company that respect their customer and replace their faulty phone, like what Google did for my Nexus 4.
Coming from an iPhone 6 (Originally all Android) and going to this phone, I'd have to say I love it... I may not be in love with it, but I love it Everything is pretty smooth, the camera is good for a phone camera (I've taken some really good outside video with it), and the expandable storage is great with an already large size internal storage. I'd say to anyone who is on the fence to buy it. Yes it's not an iPhone, but it's also not iOS.

Downgrading to a moto g4

Got a moto G5 plus amazon edition, but am concerned about privacy and slow android updates. Also, decided I didn't want to spend that much money.
Considering returning the phone and getting a moto G4 or G4 plus. Leaning toward the G4 since processor and ram are identical with the plus. Anyway, the G5 plus doesn't seem to be a huge upgrade.
I don't play 3d games on the phone but run many apps. Real-world performance wise g4 and G5 plus don't seem to differ that much. I'd rather have speedy(er) updates, no ads, ostensibly more privacy, and the option to root easily in the future, even if it means getting last year's model.
What do you guys think?
What privacy and security issues are you seeing on the g5+?
Just get the non Amazon version of the G5+ then. Although I don't think there are any privacy issues on the Amazon version. The Amazon version tends to get the same updates as the unlocked version too.
I agree, the Amazon version shouldn't have any privacy issues and it will get the updates. Lenovo says they usually get the updates last but they will get them.

Having owned the G4 plus for a very short while (ran it over with my lift at work...) I'd say downgrading is close to a wash, except for a couple things.
The battery life on the G5 plus is superior than the G4 plus. Or just about any phone for that matter. The battery life I've been getting out of this thing is just amazing. Also worth mentioning is the much better fingerprint reader on the G5 plus, which has gesture support. With the G4 plus, all you're really getting is a slightly better screen, IMO anyway.
All in all, unless the moto G4 plus will have more ram and/or is unlockable, I don't think it's worth the downgrade. The battery life is just too good.
I owned a G4 Plus also. It was a fine phone but with a few serious flaws: the most important: 'ghost touches': on certain brightness levels the phone went 'haywire' with random 'touches' on the screen. Also (in my case) the headphones only gave sound in the left ear. That was easily solved by buying bluetooth headphones, but nevertheless...
Screen(size) and camera were better on the G4 Plus however.
Other things why to stay on the G5 Plus: the amount of ram (3 vs 2 gb, in my case) and the internal memory (32 vs 16 gb).
Overall: the G5 Plus is way more 'snappier', battery life is way more better and there are no flaws like 'ghost touches' etc. I would never downgrade!

So i called to Amazon customer care. And as per their advise i got sheet mentioned of out of warranty letter from service center and send photo of letter to amazon. They now going to refund me money. Now should i go for mot g5 plus???
In my opinion and 9 month of use, moto g4 plus is a very good phone in terms of performance. Only issue is with display which is having hardware issue. So dont go for it.
And pls suggest should i go for g5 plus?

Security as in slow updates...it's still on Android 7.0.0
Privacy as in - with all the Amazon apps that are on my phone and wide range of permissions required, some of which seem overboard - it just makes me wary of being monitored by Amazon. Also, it's not like I can uninstall the apps and revoke the permissions.
1. If you cheap out and buy the Amazon, this is expected to be advertised to. It's the Nature of the phone... Just get a non Amazon phone.
2. The stock non Amazon is in 7.1.1 with the latest OTA, and a SW patch from March. not really that old... Custom roms bring you the ability to always be up to date on security, and rooting let's you remove whatever the heck you want from the phone.
Your hated of this phone seems to be because you didn't want to spend the extra $50 and not get all Amazon's crapware. It's a bit like picking data points from a large study to prove a theory
