[Q] Network problem with T-mobile sim card on VZW Note 2 - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Please help the frustrated me
I put a T-mobile sim card on my VZW Note 3 and added an APN to for the mobile network, the 4G LTE flag shows up in the status bar as expected. The only problem is: when it uses data network instead of WIFI, all non-http network connections seem to get blocked and the only thing I can do is to use the browser to surf Internet. All other apps such as WeChat, Skype don't work at all. WeChat keeps reporting "Server access failure (1, -10087)".
I suspect there's a firewall built in the T-mobile data network but couldn't find any settings about it.
Does any expert here know to solve the problem?
Thanks!

Did you ever get it to work? I'm experiencing the same issue with my note 3 from VZW.

Server Access Error (-1,10087) with WeChat \ HTC One M8 \ T-Mobile
I have been getting the same error ever since Android was updated from 4.3 to 4.4.*.
I have WeChat on a HTC One M8 on T-Mobile. Works fine on WiFi, but not on direct connect to T-Mobile's LTE network. T-Mobile doesn't have any ideas what could be causing this except to say it is either WeChat, Android, or HTC.
T-Mobile did give me a brand new HTC One M8 thinking a new phone may help, but I still run into the same issues.
I have full use of Internet, email and messaging, but WeChat will not connect via the T-Mobile network. It appears WeChat may be getting blocked by T-Mobile when accessing via the HTC One M8 as there are a few things occurring:
1. Continually receiving an error: Server Access Error (-1,10087). Only occurs when there is no WiF and trying to connect through T-Mobile’s data network.
2. Cannot request a TEXT to be sent to me under the Password Recovery feature. It says a text is being sent but none come through.
3. The same with the request a phone call Password Recover feature. It says to expect a call but none come.
4. When sending a data report, it will get to 95% uploaded and then freeze and never finishes.
Any thoughts on how to correct this?

Did you check to see if you have a proxy in your apn settings? That would cause a such a condition if you have a proxy in your tmobile apn settings.

Same thing for me on Tmobile M8 using We Chat. If I go into the settings and turn off and on Mobile Data, it will work for a few minutes and then revert back to the server error.
I definitely believe it has to deal with something on Tmobile's network but their support doesn't have an answer. Someone please help!

finally figured it out
This has been bothering me since I flashed the viperone rom for my M8. The solution is simple, go to your APN setting edit access point, change APN protocol from IPV6 into IPV4/IPV6!

I am using Magic with Airtel. EDGE is not a problem works fine, I am on weekly unlimited plan.

Edge/gprs settings
Can you write the apn settings of vodaphone as you have set on your phone here.
Thanks.
www
rest is default
Hi,
I have problem in accessing the secure sites using the normal vodafone GPRS connection wit the APN "portalnmms" None of the "https" sites will open nor can I use the active sync or other push emails.
I tried to create a new APN with "www" but once I selected it as the default APN, my GPRS stopped working. I have not changed any other settings. Please could anyone help.
Thanks,
Deepak
Gprs settings not recieving from airtel.
I am using Airtel as it Is..... can someone tell me what settings work on my stock HTC magic phone. I have Airtel live activated. And I was very able to browse and log in to my mails etc. (The customer care guy was surprised that I had been able to access mails on Airtel, however I dont y he felt so). But when I went on roaming I was not able to access my mails but only cue browse the net. Then I tried resetting my fone to factory settings losing the Airtel live settings. Then called up Airtel and asked to send the settings, BUT THEY SAID THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO SEND THE SETTINGS TO MY CELL AS I WAS IN ROAMING.
Then even when I came back to local, they were not able to send me the gprs/mobile office settings to my magic. Any idea guys ......?
not able to avail 100MB plan from airtel
After repeatedly making requests to airtel customer care, I am not able to get the free 100 MB plan, which comes with new Airtel magic, activated on my handset.
It seems that Airtel is not yet technically equipped to support android handsets.
I am using AirtelLive and paying 100Rs/month for usage
Even I am also facing the same problem. SSL sites not opening up. Not able to access gmail/gtalk/Android Market on my GPRS connection. Have a Vodafone connection.
Tried the "www" APN settings thing.
Didn't work.
Any breakthrough so far?
After going through a few forums, I guess its a problem with the APN. Many people suggest clearing the proxy and the port fields. I tried that. But then, my EDGE connection was lost and I couldn't connect to the net. Following are the current APN settings that I am using:
Name: Vodafone live
APN : portalnmms
Proxy: 10.10.1.100
Port : 9401
MCC : 404
MNC : 27
APN type: default
If anyone is using any other settings on Vodafone, Do inform.

Well I have magic (not bought from airtel, but imported from TW), I have taken 399 gprs plan and every thing works fine. I sync exchange mail, gmail, yahoo mail, browse including secure sites. No problems at all.
1) You need to get mobile office GPRS plan activated on your number
2) APN settings are simple -> Set APN to airtelgprs.com and leave all other settings as is and set APN type to default, if your mobile office is activated you can see all you data stuff working.
Update: I have this from June 09 even before HTC launched Magic with Airtel
Subhash
APN issue
I flashed my HTC Magic to Amon Ra's 1.6 ROM. Everything works perfectly except gprs. The baffling thing is that when I put in some random settings for the APN, they get saved, of course it doesn't work, but when I add the correct settings, the new APN doesn't appear in the list at all and the gprs does not work. I am using a vodafone connection. Any ideas?

[Q] unlocked tmobile hd2 no data connection??? please help

i have a tmobile hd2 and its carrier unlocked i am using it with ATT and i just recently lost all data connection to my phone. i have an unlimited data plan that was working perfect until just recently. no internet or mms not even weather!! only can use wifi. can anyone help? thanks
Have you tried
*#*#4636#*#*
dial this and then go to phone information.
Have you run the ping test?
Checked what Current Network says?
Checked to see if there is anything listed under =======DATA======= ?
Have you tried to put a friend's TMO sim in the phone to see if data is restored?
All the data you can provide could help solve your problem. As is, the problem might be a little ill defined.

If you are running Windows Mobile on your HD2 from the home screen touch onvStart Menu/Settings/Menu/All Settings/Connections/Connections. Then tiuch on the adcanced tab and then touch on Select Networks and make sure AT&T is the selected network. Also tiuch on the Task tab and select Manage Existing Connections. While on the Modem tab make sure AT&T is selected and under the Proxy Settings make sure the box beside "This network connects to the internet" is checked.
Ok if you are running Androud then go to Settings/Wirless & Networks make sure allow data connections box is checked. Also go to Networks/Vertualy private networks (VPN) and make sure your AT&T VPN is corrwct.
i have fixed the problem! i was running the tmobile 3.14 rom udate which sucked and i just flashed an energy rom and alll is working again thanks for the suggestions
Same Problem
Someone please help and know that I know little to nothing of technical terms! I have the same problem. I have a T-mobile Hd2 and had Android put on it. Right at first I had a data connection then all of a sudden-NO DATA. I'm so frustrated! I checked the setting for using the phone as data connection SEVERAL time. I can get wifi but no data otherwise. PLEASE HELP
Try:
Menu - Settings - Wireless and networks - Mobile network - Access Point Names - menu button - restore to defaults, and follow the simple instructions
This should place the latest APN from your carrier on to the phone - may need a soft reboot

Hi, I'm currently trying to get my T-Mobile HD2 to work properly on NTT docomo, a Japanese cell carrier. I moved here at the end of May and have been using a data-only SIM through bmobile, a provider that uses the same towers as NTT docomo and it worked perfectly, however I switched to a voice and data plan and now I have no data connection. Voice works fine though.
I followed nenol's steps and under =======DATA======= it says, "State: DcInactiveState disconnected with last try at 9:49PM fail because Activation Reject GGSN" What now? Ha

MMS problems

I have been having problems for quite a while with receiving MMS messages and sending them as well. I am on a monthly pay as you go plan with no data and i am out of the tmobile network, (roaming still in US) but with my previous phone (sidekick 4g), I was able to send and receive MMS messages if i had wifi calling on. Now that trick doesn't seem to work but once every good while. All I get is the download option then my bars will get that "x" over them to signify no coverage and wifi calling will turn off and after a while start again and no progress will be made in the download process. I have tried having both national and international roaming on and neither seem to make a difference. I havent made any tries to change the apn settings. Could anyone help me solve my dilemma? Thanks any help will be greatly appreciated.

Even though you're on a pay-as-you-go plan, you'll still need data enabled to send/receive mms messages. Otherwise you'll receive the message but never be able to download the attachment. My phone is on a plan without data, but I still have to enable data in order to send and receive MMS messages. I also need a good amount of signal (it has to be practically full signal) for it to go through. As far as my experience goes, you can't send or receive MMS messages while Wi-Fi Calling is enabled. Your signal bars show no signal because your phone is switching between Wi-Fi Calling and mobile radio. As for APN setting, I'm not sure which ones do and don't work. Whenever I have issues with MMS, I look up the values and re-set them.
TL;DR Just enable data and give it a try.

I have T-Mobile as well. If you watch closely when receiving an MMS, you will see that although WiFi calling is enabled, the mobile data indicator will show up and transfer the data.
As far as APN settings are concerned, it has no effect on WiFi calling. If you can receive MMS when connected to mobile data then your APN settings are correct.

The thing is that I do have my data enabled and i do see the indicator showing the data transfer but its usually a "G" and the arrows neither go up or down, but its really strange yesterday I was able to test it out and I was able to recieve an MMS but I tried sending one right after and nothing happened. I will probably recieve the failed to send message later on today. I was just hoping there was a fix to this. And as far as I have seen with experimenting with it, WiFi calling must be enabled for me to send or recieve MMS if not I get the message of could not send or could not download right away

[Q] HTC Trophy stuck on EDGE using Simple Mobile

I recently bought a Simple Mobile sim card and had trouble from the start with no data at all and no picture messaging. However after downloading HTC's Connection Setup app I was able to send and receive picture messaging and access the EDGE network, at the time I figured that I must not be in range of 3g and that that would come later. However, my phone has been unable to connect to 3g since day one and when I pop my sim card into my old android phone it connects to 3g with no problem. What can I do to resolve this?

What Trophy are you using, Verizon's or "other" (meaning any Trophy other then Verzion's). Verizon's Trophy might not support the band that Simple Mobile's HSPA+ is running on?

[Q] Nexus 4 data radio problem?

I'm a smartphone noob [though slightly above-average with technology in general] - the Nexus 4 is my first smartphone, and I've been lurking here for a week looking for all possible solutions for my problem and none have worked, so please bear with the longish post:
Nexus 4 16GB, bought from the US Play store - using it since Monday, Dec 10. I'm using it with a Straight Talk AT&T SIM, and I have *no cellular data* whatsoever. I have been using the phone for a week now, and I haven't been able to use the internet except on wifi. No 3G/EDGE/HSPA+ logos next to the signal bars - in fact the signal bars always grey when wifi is off. I have only seen the signal bars turn blue when the wifi is on, never on a cellular network.
APN settings have been verified, and tens (yes, TENS) of Straight Talk reps have said my account seems to be provisioned correctly and good to go. I have tried all the alternative APN settings suggested for Straight Talk on various forums, including the two-APN configuration for MMS and data, deleting the data proxy from the APN settings, reverting to the default APN settings on the SIM and even using the Straight Talk T-Mobile APN [though I know for sure mine is an AT&T SIM because T-Mo doesn't cover my workplace, where I have good signal strength].
My old device was an AT&T locked dumbphone, so I couldn't change the APN settings on it to use the data on StraightTalk, but when I put my Straight Talk SIM in, it shows the 3G logo next to the signal bars suggesting that my StraightTalk account is probably provisioned correctly for data.
Hard reset, repeated reboots and repeated toggling of data and airplane modes have all been tried, and nothing has changed the situation. I have perfect voice and text messaging connectivity and zero data.
As a smartphone noob - is there a separate radio in the phone for data connections, and is it possible that this radio alone is a lemon on my phone? I *do not* have access to another micro-SIM, unfortunately - CDMA is popular in my town and the only two of my friends who have phones with removable SIMs probably won't appreciate having their regular SIMs cut down to micro for me to test. Without being able to test it, I don't know if I should just RMA it either.
***UPDATE*** : FIXED
I got a T-Mobile SIM to test the phone, and data worked perfectly well on that, so I concluded it probably wasn't the phone. T-Mobile wasn't an option for me though, because they have crappy reception in most of my town.
Happened to travel to Boston, tried my StraightTalk SIM in a friend's phone there - data worked fine then. So now I didn't know if it was the phone or the SIM.
After three weeks of grief and fighting, I got StraightTalk to send me a replacement SIM, which fixed the issue immediately - I had full HSPA data connectivity within five minutes of dialing their number to have my SIM activated.
Turn on Mobile data?
Have you enabled the 3G/mobile data switch built into android? Settings > Wireless & data > More > Mobile Networks > data Enabled Tick that if its unchecked, Im still waiting for mine but my HTC explorer running a vanila flavour of ICS has a similar settings menu, its somewhere along those lines bud, post back with results. As i said might be in a different location due to the differing OS versions
Good luck mate, Blewk
EDIT: Nevermind ive just opened my eyes and noticed you've tried it xD
so try calling this number *#*#4636#*#* and going through each of those settings (apart from LTE of course) see if any of them give you a Data connection. constantly checking the data switch on the phone at all times though making sure its enabled If this offers no luck im out of ideas for you mate

So what are your APN setting? Can't really trust CSRs since they aren't using a Nexus 4 to test themselves.

I've attached screenshots with the current settings, which are the ones the CSRs recommended.
I have also tried
deleting the proxy+port
changing both proxies to addressort format
changing the APN type to "default, supl, mms".
editing the SIM's default APN values to these, instead of creating a new APN.
and various combinations of these. None of these have helped. (I reboot and wait 30-45 minutes after every change in these settings).
EDIT: addressort is address(colon)port. Forgot to disable smilies.
Try changing your MMS Proxy to 66.209.11.33 see if that helps. Its the only difference I can see.

Thank you, I've tried that too. Since my other phone (without the correct APN) still shows the 3G logo next to the signal bars and the Nexus 4 doesn't show any data speed indications, is it safe to assume the issue is with the device and not the network?

Thanks. I was trying just that (saw the *#*#4636#*#* code on another forum), and none of the options work. I'm wondering if that means my radio is dead. I don't want that to be the case, but I can't think of another explanation
You appear to not have an APN type set up.

I think I have the same problem as the OP. In my case, the HSPA radio connects about 50% of the time after a reboot. In my case, I'm convinced that the loss of signal is attributed to failure to communicate with the SIM card.
For the OP: Are your signal bars grey? or is it just an outline of a triangle on its side? If it's just an outline, the phone sees the SIM card, but cant retrieve the necessary data. To confirm, install a SIM info app from the Play store and see if the app see all details of the sim card.
I have already replaced the sim card, assuming I had a defective SIM, but the new card has not resolved the issue.
At this point, I think I need to RMA my phone.

It looks like the SIM details are being seen - I have voice and texting capabilities, and my signal bars are present but grey. Sorry to hear about your phone - my data connection is out 100% of the time though.
I've ordered a T-Mobile SIM to check this out - this way I should be able to figure out whether it's the network or the SIM.
Update: I've tried a T-Mo SIM and it works perfectly. So it's not the device.
However T-Mo isn't actually a viable option for me because they have very limited coverage where I live. Straight Talk keep telling me their provisioning is okay - any way to check on this? What other issues could I possible have that might be causing this?

Are you sure you have AT&T 3G coverage near you? I looked on AT&T's map for my work place and it shows 3G coverage but the entire county only gets 2G EDGE. And EDGE is horribly slow, I can't download anything. Went to Wal-Mart there and went to the wireless store and they confirmed that there is no 3G coverage in the area except for Verizon (which I had before this phone). I have an app called Network Signal Info, it will tell you what type of data network you are connecting too even when on wifi. It tells me EDGE2 at work HSPA at home.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.android.telnet&hl=en Network Signal Info
Edit: just wanted to add that I read somewhere in a thread here that the colors blue and gray only signify if you are connected to google services or not. Blue you're connected, gray you're not.

Dead sure - as I said in my original post, I put my SIM back in my old (locked) dumbphone and it shows the 3G logo - though I can't use data on that phone because I'm locked out of the APN settings. And colleagues at work with have HSPA+ on AT&T. I can't try their SIMs though, because they don't use micro-SIM.
As for signal bar colours - even if there is no Google connectivity, it should at least show me a 3G or H/H+ next to the signal bars, which doesn't happen - and I cannot access anything on the internet anyway. I tried actually accessing the internet via the browser and various apps, I'm not deciding my connectivity based on the bar colours.
ALSO: When I use *#*#4636#*#* to turn the radio off and then on again, "GPRS service" goes to "connecting" but eventually stops at "disconnected". And the "network type" in that menu says "HSPA", so it looks like the network is kicking me off though I can't for the life of me say why that's happening.

I'm constantly get this issue where the signal bar becomes just an outline every minute or so and I lose connection. When this is happening sms becomes erratic (I receive texts multiple times sometimes 20-30 minutes after it was first sent, texts are received in the wrong order, cannot send texts until i restart phone).
Possibly hardware issue?
I had the same problem... could connect to the wireless network only if wireless data was disabled or WIFI was on.
Ordered a replacement which came today, and all is good Seems to be a hardware issue.

I to am having the same problem connecting to data networks. I have had the nexus 4 for about 2 weeks and its been an amazing phone until this morning when I had no data connection in town and around town. My iPhone 4 has 3G connection in the same area, with the same sim card. Ive already looked around the net and found the post to reset the radio but nothing happened. After not having radio or data for about 2 hours my phone finally fixed its self. I have no clue why I lost data connection or how it fixed its self. I will stay posted to see what happens but maybe there is some bad hardware in the device that is just now starting to surface.???
Hi I appear to have the same problem. My phone is able to make calls/text and etc with data off but when data is turned back on it screws around, doesnt connect to the internet, grey outline on service and etc. I'm thinking this is an hardware issue but how would I go and exchange this. One more thing, I bought this brand new from someone, does that matter?

If you want to RMA your phone, you can transfer the ownership by calling Google Play support. You will need the device IMEI and the email address of the original purchaser. Just tell them the phone was gifted to you. After the ownership is transferred, you can begin the RMA process.
