[Q] A500 downgrade / mounting internal memory - Acer Iconia A500

Hi guys,
sorry if there are already another topics like mine. I’ve searched here as well as other forums, but didn’t found a solution.
I bought an Acer A500 32GB WiFi-Only second hand. It comes out that probably the last user has installed a custom ROM. The following information became I from “About tablet”:
Model number: A500
Android version: 4.3.1
Kernel version: 3.8.13.13-digetx-thor-t45
[email protected] #1
Thu Nov 14 15:55:22 EET 2013
CPU: ARMv7 Processor rev 0 (v7l)
Memory: 718 MB <<<--- why not 1GB?
CyagonedMod version: Tegraowners JB-MR2 ROM v6 (thor & digetx)
Build date: Wed Nov 20 09:11:51 EET 2013
Build number: Picasso-userdebug 4.3.1 JLS36l.eng.thor2002ro20131120.091122 test-keys
SELinux status: Permissive
When I start it it shows:
Skrilax_CZ`s bootloader V9
Booting primary kernel image
Booting android image from LNX partition …
With it I can do nothing. The internal storage is only 122 MB – I receive constantly messages for low space. Because of this I can’t install apps bigger than 500kB. The “Play Store” is also not working. When I try to install anything the status goes “Downloading…”, but never ends.
I am not so well grounded in the area of ROMs, because of this I need your advice. I want to use this tablet for normal stuff like Skype-talks, PDF`s readying and so on.
Is the size of my internal memory so small because of this firmware, or it is a hardware problem? How can I fix it or at least find a possibility to mount a SD card and installing all applications directly there?
Please, give me directions how to downgrade my current firmware, to an original version of Acer or someone better than this. Is this in general possible?
Best wishes!

I realized that I need a real format. So i did the following things:
1) Turn Off the tablet
2) Hold "+" Button and "Power" button together. When it vibrates continue to hold only the + Button.
3) Enter in Boot recovery mode
4) Enter "Backup and Restore" and click on "Toggle backup and restore of internal storage (/data/media)"
should say enabled....
6) Enter into "Mounts and Storage"
7) "format /data"
8) Go out of this mode and start the tablet - it takes a little longer than normal.
9) Have a working play store and visible internal memory!

What's Working:
camera

Install instruction/download links:
1. Connect the home charger to the Tablet PC. Charge the battery.
2. Download the compressed file to your PC/Laptop.
3. Create an empty folder on your desktop PC / laptop. Extract the downloaded .zip file into this empty folder.
4. Copy the four extracted files ("update.zip", "uImage_recovery", "uImage", "u-boot-512M-UartB.bin","factory_update_param.aml") to the root folder of an empty microSD card (2GB or higher). I you want to wipe and install manually, just delete the factory_update_param.aml file and boot into recovery without that.
5. Safely remove (disconnect) the microSD card.
6. Turn off the Tablet PC, but keep the home charger connected to it.
7. Insert the microSD card into the Tablet PC. After this step, don't pull out the microSD card.
8. Press and hold down the "volume up" button.
9. While holding down the "volume up" button , press and hold down the "power on" button for 6-9 seconds, and release the buttons after the last "upgrading... please wait" like messages.
Navigation inside the menu:
- Volume up and down buttons can be used to select a menu item.
- The "back" button (which is between the "home" and "menu" buttons) will activate a menu item.
10. Dont forget to hit the thanks button

I can't get BBC I player or Netflix to run with this rom. I get sound but no picture. Does anyone know why. Avi files run fine. Otherwise the from is very good. Been following this on the Hungarian forum but relying on google translate. Only other issue is the inertia scrolling.
Cheers carrotts

I have no idea about Netflix. Is seems to be working with CM nightlies. There is a XDA thread about netfix. I hope there is a solution for this.

Hello,
Do you have copy of ROM for similar device xTAB-70i ?
I am looking for Wayteq_xTAB_70i_20120620.zip.

Need new links for rom and related things

I have recently bought a HTC G1 and now ready to flush any stable custom rom like gingeryoshi or CM6 but sadly it looks like its a bit late now to ask any of these, cause all the links provided here ( I have searched nearly thoroughly) are either dead or not working any more. so now can someone guide me step by step (even the smallest steps) from the beginning that means from rooting the device to the latest andro update (gingerbread)... please is there anyone??? cause in 6 months i'm already in love with this device... with its usability... please help!
p.s - i'm a newbie, dont have any experience of rooting or anything but computer friendly enough to handle little command or this and that... so it wont be annoying...
so i've got this process... looks good... but the downoadable components were in Megaupload, that now shows FBI Warning... helpless..
I) Formatting the SD Card and Downgrading to RC29
(YOU WILL DELETE EVERYTHING OFF YOUR SD CARD!)
1. Plug your USB cable into your computer and then plug your phone in.
2. Mount your SD card by sliding down the notification bar and selecting mount.
3. Go to My Computer and access your SD card.
4. BACKUP ANY FILES THAT YOU WANT ONTO YOUR COMPUTER. VERY
IMPORTANT!
5. Go back to my computer and right click on the drive that is your sd card. Click format. Choose FAT32 from the drop down and hit the format button. This removes all data from your memory card.
6. Once the format is complete: drag and drop "DREAIMG.nbh & Update.zip files that you downloaded into the sd card. (DO NOT create a folder or anything, just put it right in the SD card)
7. Unmount your phone by going through the notification bar and then unplug your phone from your computer. Them turn off your phone.
8. Press and hold the camera+end key until until you see a screen with colored bars, then let go. This is the bootloader. The screen will turn gray with blue writing on it.
9. Hit the end key to start the update. DON'T DO ANYTHING UNTIL THIS IS DONE!
10. Once it is finished press the trackball to reboot. (If it goes back the the colored bar screen and doesn't reboot try holding the home+menu+end key, if this doesn't work, just remove the batter and put it back in and turn the phone on)
11. Once the phone is on, just turn it back off.
12. Now press the Home+End keys until you see a triangle with an exclamation point in it (this is recovery mode). Once you see this let go of the buttons.
13. Open the keyboard and press the ALT and L buttons, and then Press ALT and S buttons. Now wait until the phone reboots (it will do this automatically once the update is applied) (Don't worry if you see picture of a box and a g1 or a chip with an arrow)
14. Once the phone reboots, go ahead and and go through the welcome guide and get to the home screen.
II) Flashing a Recovery Image
1. Now with your phone at the home screen, go to settings>applications> an turn on unknown sources.
2. Now go to settings>SD card and Phone Storage>Unmount SD Card
3. Now Click format sd card and go ahead and format your sd card. It will automatically remount after.
4. Go back to the home screen and plug and mount the phone to the computer again as you did earlier.
5. Place the following files you downloaded earlier right into the sd card: FlashRec.apk, and Amon Ra's Recovery Image (Again not in any folder or anything, just on the sd card)
6. Once they are transferred go ahead and unmount and unplug your phone from the computer
7. Go and download a file manager from the android market (I suggest LINDA FILE MANAGER)
8. Once downloaded, open the file manager and go to SD card, and click the FlashRec.apk file and then click install. If it asks -> Tell it to use package installer to open it (it probably wont ask but if it does)
9. Once installed click open (it will be on bottom left of screen)
10. Then click the button that says "backup recovery image"
11. Once it says "backup complete" open the keyboard and type the following: /sdcard/recovery.img
12. Then click "flash custom recovery image" and wit until it says "Flash complete"
13. Go back to the home screen and then turn off the phone.
14. Turn the phone back on into recovery mode by holding down the home and power buttons. You will see a bunch of text on top of a black background with an HTC logo in the middle.
III) Partitioning and Loading the latest radio
1. Scroll down to "Partition SD Card"
2. Click "Partition SD"
3. Press the Home key to confirm
4. Use the trackball to increase the "swap size" to 96MB then press Home key
5. Make sure "EXT2" is set to 512 MB then Click the Home Key
6. Make sure "Fat32 size" is set to remainder and then press the Home Key and then the phone will begin partitioning.
7. Once partitioning is complete scroll down and select to "SD: ext2 to ext3" and then press the Home key. Wait for it to upgrade.
8. Once the Upgrade is complete hit the "back" button to get back to the main menu. Then scroll down and select "USB-MS Toggle" and wait for it to enable.
9. Now plug the phone into the computer again. Now transfer the files downloaded earlier: G1 Radio, G1 HardSPL, Generic G1 Rom w/ root, to the phone. (AGAIN KEEP THE FILES JUST IN THE SD CARD AND NOT IN A FOLDER OR SOMETHING)
10. Once the transfer is complete hit the Home key to disable the USB-MS toggle and return back to the main menu of recovery mode. Unplug your phone.
11. Scroll down and select "Flash .zip from SDcard"
12. Select the G1 Radio file (named OTA Radio or something like that) and hit the Home key to confirm. DO NOT SELECT ANY OTHER FILE, THE RADIO MUST BE DONE FIRST.
13. Once the Radio Flash is complete Press Home+Back to reboot the phone. It will then say "writing radio image" and then reboot back into recover mode (this will take some time)
14. Once back into recovery mode, scroll and select "Flash zip from SDcard" again.
15. This time choose the SPL file (named somthing like "Latest G1 SPL.zip") and then click the HOME KEY to confirm.
16. Once it finishes, hit HOME+Back to reboot once again. It will say "writing boot image" and then reboot
back to recovery mode.
17. Once again scroll to "Flash zip from SDCard" and choose the Generic G1 Rom file (Named something like Generic G1 Root Rom.zip) and click Home to confirm and wait for it to finish.
18. Once finished it should go back to the main menu and say"Install from SD card complete"
19. Now click on the "Reboot System Now" choice. (Home+Back)
20. Wait for the phone to reboot back into Android.
IV)Installing CYANOGENMOD 6 (Android 2.2 Froyo for HTC DREAM)
1. Once back into Android, turn the phone back off.
2. Hold the Home + power keys to turn the phone on and get it back into recovery mode
3. Select "USB-MS Toggle" and wait for it to enable
4. Once enabled, plug your phone in and transfer the CYANOGENMOD6 and GAPPS file ito your SD card/phone. (again not in any folder, just in the sd card)
5. Once the files are transferred, press the Home key to disable USB-MS Toggle and return to the main menu, and then unplug your phone.
6. Scroll down and select "wipe" and then select "wipe data / factory reset" and then hit the Home key to confirm. Wait for it to finish the wipe. It will say "Data wipe complete"
7. Hit the back key to return to the main menu.
8. Scroll and select "Flash Zip from SDCard"
9. Select the CYANOGENMOD 6 ROM Named something like "update-cm-6.0.0-DS-RC1-signed.zip" and hit Home to confirm and wait for it to finish.
10. Once finished it will go back to the main menu and say "Install from SD Card Complete"
11. Go back to "Flash Zip from SDCard"
12. Select the Gapps File Named something like "gapps-mdpi-FRF91-3-signed.zip" and click home to confirm.
13. Once it is finished you should be back at the main menu. Select "Reboot System Now" and wait for the phone to reboot.
14. The reboot will take some time, (roughly 5-10 minutes) so don't freak out. Just put your phone down and go do something =)

this is how to root
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=668090
this will give you links to tips and understanding about android and the g1
the roms found here are all over a year old but plenty are still "good" newer roms are in the development section, usually the first 2-3pages will have most of the newest roms
There are a few good roms here and there for the G1.
Don't let the newbie reply fool you, just an old dev starting under a new name.
I would suggest:
For froyo: FroyobyLaszlo, DreamTeamFroyo
For gingerbread: ezGingerBread, CronMod, ADSMagpie
Thanks every one... after going through the rom bible for a few times i was also thinking about ezGingerBread... thanks thanks thanks for the working downloads... got all the files needed...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=882356
now i need to know status of my phone, the radio or firmware version... i'm posting whatever i could get out of my phone... will just flushing do? as mentioned in the ezgingerbread page of xda developers?
Model number: Android Dev Phone 1
firmware Version: 1.6
Basband Version: 62.50S.20.17H_2.22.19.26I
Kernel Version: 2.6.29-00479-g3c7df37 android [email protected]#19
Build number: dream_devphone-userdebug1.6 DRC8314721 test-keys
you have a developers phone so you dont need to root. but it would be a good idea to add a custom recovery and update your radio/spl. unless this has already been done. you can check by powering on while holding the camera button, write down everything on this screen
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
Ok just did the camera button power up
It says
DREA*** PVT 32B
H Boot - 0.95.3000
CPLD - 4
RADIO - 2.22.19.26I
Oct 20 2008
Serial - 10
you probably still have a stock recovery, you should change this to either amonra or clockwork
you also need to upgrade your spl(hboot) to either .2005 or .2003
then you mentioned you wanted to try ezgingerbread, for this you need the 2708+ update (ram hack)
you will need to updgrade radio to .08 or .25
then upgrade spl to .13d
all the how to's are found all over these threads, search around a bit and if you get stuck just ask again. these same questions are asked weekly still so there are loads of threads with detailed instructions found everywhere

If Network Lock is [OFF]. Go to next chapter.
3) BACKUP DATA
Install Samsung drivers (you unzipped earlier).
Then plug phone to PC in File transfer mode.
Collect all .jpg or .mp4 (particularly in DCIM folder).
Make sure your Google Account is synchronised.
Use an app like Backupyourmobile or SMS Backup & Restore to backup texts, contacts, etc.
Check that backup is located on microSD card.
Then copy the backup on your PC.
4) FLASH LATEST STOCK ANDROID 2.3.6 GINGERBREAD
### This step is only required if your phone is blocked on Android 2.1 Eclair or 2.2 Froyo (no more recent official update).
If you are already on 2.3.x Gingerbread, move on to next chapter.
You will lose all the data stored on phone.
Shutdown phone.
Boot phone in Download mode: Hold buttons Power + Menu + Volume down until Droid logi is shown and release the buttons.
You see a Droid logo with "Downloading... Do not turn off Target!!!" message (video here if my explanation isn't clear:
)
On PC, launch Odin with Administrator privileges (you unziped it from my pack, in the Flash folder). Select Odin.exe > right click > Run as administrator
In Odin's main window, check all 3 checkboxes: Re-Partition, Auto Reboot, F. Reset Time. Leave other checkboxes unchecked.
### Select PDA, PHONE and CSC files from the GT_I9000_XWJW5_XXJW4_OXXJVC_Sbl folder of my pack.
In PIT > select s1_odin_20100512.pit file
PDA > select PDA_XWJW5_Sbl.tar.md5
PHONE > select PHONE_XXJW4.tar.md5
CSC > select CSC_OXXJVC.tar.md5
Connect phone to USB.
ID:COM state becomes yellow.
Click Start
### ID:COM is not yellow: Try another USB port and/or another USB cable. Or another PC.
### Let flash proceed, don't touch anything, flash will last for 2min30.
Let phone autorestart.
Skip Android setup.
###### At any time, if your phone isn't working properly (bricked, bootloop), you can start fresh from this step.
5) FLASH NEW KERNEL + CWM RECOVERY
### Join us here if you your phone was already Android 2.3.x Gingerbread
Go to Settings > Applications > Development > Switch USB debugging ON.
Power off phone. Unplug phone from USB (if it was).
Run Odin as Administrator.
In Odin main window, check ONLY F. Reset Time checkbox. All other checkboxes must be unchecked.
In PDA > select CF-Root-XX_OXA_JW4-v4.4-CWM3RFS.tar
Boot phone in Download mode: Hold buttons Power + Menu + Volume- until Droid logo is shown.
Connect phone to USB.
When ID:COM is yellow, click Start.
Wait until PASS! message shows up in Odin.
Disconnect phone.
We now want to enter in ClockWorkMod Recovery v3:
Hold buttons Power + Menu + Volume down until phone is shut...
THEN immediately move finger from Volume down to Volume up while holding Power + Home until Samsung logo shows up and release 3 buttons.
### If Android starts to load, just keep pressed on Power + Home + Volume+ until phone restarts and Samsung logo starts showing again.
6) FORMAT PARTITIONS AND INSTALL ANDROID 4.4 KITKAT / LINEAGEOS 11
Navigation within CWM recovery:
- Volume up: move up selection
- Volume down: move down selection
- Home: confirm selection
- Power: back to previous menu
Use Volume down to select wipe data/factory reset and confirm with Home.
On next screen, use volume- to select Yes -- delete all user data. Confirm with Home
Then repeat the operation to wipe cache partition.
Finally, go to mounts and storage and format /system.
Now select "mount USB storage" (still in mounts and storage).
Connect to PC, Galaxy S is detected as USB drive.
From Windows explorer, copy all files from my ROMs folder + Google Apps zip on phone's internal memory.
Once finished, safely remove device from Windows, then unmount from phone and unplug phone from USB.
Go back to CWM home menu and navigate to > install zip from sdcard > choose zip from sdcard > lineage-11*.zip and confirm install
Phone flashes and reboots in CWM recovery 6.0.5.1
### You now use Power to confirm actions within CWM 6 recovery.
Chose Install zip and confirm with Power this time.
choose zip from /storage/sdcard0 and confirm with Power
Select lineage-11*.zip and confirm flash. Wait
When finished, go back to CWM main menu.
Install zip of OpenGapps Pico 4.4 as described above.
Then reboot system now, Cyanogenmod 11/Android 4.4 loads.
Skip Android setup (if you want Android > 4.4, even though not recommended for performance reasons).
7) INSTALL ANDROID 5.1 LOLLIPOP
Shutdown phone.
Restart to recovery
Repeat same steps to install omni-5.1.1*.zip (wipe data/factory reset + Install zip)
Wait during boot.
Power off phone again, back to recovery.
8) INSTALL ANDROID 6 MARSHMALLOW
Recovery is now TWRP 2.8.7.0.
Check Never show this screen during boot again and Swipe to Allow Modifications.
Go to Wipe > Advanced wipe and select Dalvik, Cache, Data and System partitions. Swipe to Wipe.
Now go to Install > select Full+Advance-6.0.1-20160919*.zip and Swipe to Confirm Flash.
It is very long. When finished, tap on Back icon (bottom right of screen).
Tap on open_gapps-arm-6.0-pico*.zip and Swipe to Confirm Flash
Wipe cache/dalvik > Reboot system
Setup Android 6.
Enjoy.

Hi, does it work? Am I the first here, where are the others?
---------- Post added at 07:27 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:20 PM ----------
Why is it necessary to install Android 5 bevor Android 6 ?
Hi,
seems clear enough to have 0 reactions
Yes you have to move forward slowly and install versions on top.
I would stick to 4.4 though (for fluidity)
I tried this way, and it seems to work. What do You think about?
Basis
S1 Gingerbread 2.3.6 + CF-Root
on internal SDCard CM 13.zip
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s-i9000/i9000-development/rombeta-cyanogenmod-13-0-t3343471
Installation
CWM Recovery 3.0.0.5
• 1. install zip from sd card – don´t reboot
• 2. again install zip from sd card
=> TWRP 3.0.2-0 appears
Status Quo:
SDCard = vfat
Data = auto
Cache = yaffs2
System = ext4
....................................................................................the following steps maybe were wrong or unnecessary?
• Reboot to system
=> Installation starts
=> TWRP Menue appears
• Mount SDCard
• Installation CM 13
=> Failed to mount data

• Reboot in Recovery
...............................................................................................................................................................................

.....................................................................................................................................................
• Mount SDCard, Data, Cache

• Install CM 13.zip => now SU is installing => DONE

Hi Chris,
I bought another stock and simlocked SGS to test again.
Whole tutorial went on very easily.
Especially when you know that going above Android 4.4 is crazy.
Wonderful tutorial! Pulled out my old phone and it’s happily running 4.4!! Now if I could get Magisk to figure out how to work with this, then I would be overjoyed.

I already have the flushable .zip — here is the message I am getting (ignore the /data thing - that was resolved - message happens anyway)
Also here is a picture of what I get with SuperSU flushable from ChainFire in case that helps anyone figure out what’s up.
Yes I think the phone has a weird boot sequence and cannot be flashed like this. Sorry I don't have time to look into it.
Somewhere on XDA ?
That is actually very well explained. If, like me, you only have Linux and can't use Odin, you can extract zimage from CF-Root-XX_OXA_JW4-v4.4-CWM3RFS.tar and use heimdall to flash:
heimdall flash --KERNEL ./zImage --no-reboot

I have managed to follow all other steps and have it running with android 8.1 however Disney+ and Netflix do not work as I believe they see the tablet as rooted and don't like it. I have tried a few Disney+ install work arounds but still doesn't work. Do you have any ideas? Cheers

Hi,
Thanks Djibe89 and TheDoctor46.
I am wondering if files put on the sdcard from the first install could avoid right install of BiTGApp 8.1 ?
it's quite weird, i have no sound.
i could install a browser from playstore.
well, i'll try both OpenGapps and deltadroid.

Well, Oreo is Android 8.1 so you have to download 8.1 GApps: https://github.com/BiTGApps/BiTGApp...wnload/v1.7/BiTGApps-arm-8.1.0-R45_signed.zip
Clean wipe and flash ROM + GAPPS
