http://techbeasts.com/2013/12/18/how-to-unlock-bootloader-of-sony-xperia-devices-guide/
This guide is only for Sony Xperia Z1 C6903/2.
1. Do not try this on any other model, please check your device’s mode in Settings > About Device.
2. The CWM / TWRP recovery is only for Xperia Z1 C6903/C6902 running latest Android 4.3 Jelly Bean 14.2.A.0.290 firmware. Check your firmware version in Settings > About Device and make sure that it matches the one mentioned here.
3. You must have installed Android ADB & Fastboot drivers.
TO INSTALL ADB & Fastboot Drivers tool:
a. Download the Minimal ADB & Fastboot Drivers tool: Link 1 | Link 2
b. Run the minimaltool.exe file that you downloaded and install the tool.
c. You can run the tool now by either through the Start menu, through the icon that you created on the desktop or by opening Program files > Minimal ADB & Fastboot > Right click on an empty area while keeping the shift key pressed and click on “Open Command Window Here”. ( NOTE: just double clicking on the desktop icon opens the command prompt window)
d. Use the Command prompt to do whatever you want now!
e. To install any .img file, you will have to place that file in the Minimal Tool folder that is located under Program files. (in win8.1 its : C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot)
f. To access the Fastboot mode, you’ll have to first bring the Fastboot mode on your device and then connect it. E.g on HTC devices you can highlight Fastboot mode by accessing it through HBoot and then connect it, while on Sony you can turn off the device and then while keeping the back or volume up key pressed plug in the USB cable.
That’s All! You’ve successfully installed Android ADB & Fastboot drivers. I hope that it didn’t take more than 2 minutes for you.
4. Your device must have an unlocked bootloader. This is the slightly troublesome part but its straight forward.
How to Unlock Bootloader
Install Android ADB & Fastboot Drivers using the quick setup with Minimal tool. Find the guide here.
Now first of all you need to check if your device’s bootloader unlocking is allowed or not, to do so open the dailer on your device.
Type *#*#7378423#*#*.
As soon as you enter the above code, a menu will open up.
Tap Service info > Configuration > Bootloader Unlock. If it says Yes, that means bootloader unlocking is allowed, else you can also find out if the Bootloader is already unlocked.
Now in the dialer type “*#06#”, you should get the IMEI number of your phone. Note it down somewhere
After verifying the bootloader unlock permission, turn off your device completely.
Now open the Minimal ADB and Fastboot command prompt, that you created using the guide above.
Press the back key or Volume Up key on your Xperia Device and connect it to your PC while keeping the key pressed. The back key works for older Xperia devices, while for newer devices Volume Up key will work.
In case you are trying to unlock the bootloader of your Sony Xperia Z1, please make sure that it’s running on latest Android 4.3 Jelly Bean firmware. If you tried to unlock bootloader on Android 4.2.2 firmware, it will cause the camera crash on your device.
In the command prompt type: fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce getvar version and press enter, you should get a response now e.g (0.3). This step is to verify that your device is properly connected or not.
Now open this Pageand accept the legal terms and conditions by Sony to unlock the bootloader.
After accepting the legal terms and conditions, enter your name, your phone’s IMEI number (Remove the last digit of IMEI number) and your email and click Submit button
You should receive an email by Sony immediately, the email has the Key to unlock your phone’s bootloader.
Now again in the command prompt type this com: fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce oem unlock 0xKEY. Repalce KEY with the code that you got in the email by Sony and hit Enter.
As soon as you hit Enter, the bootloader will be unlocked and show you logs in the command prompt.
5 . Please make sure that your phone’s battery is charged at least over 60%. This is highly recommended in order to prevent any power issues during the recovery flashing process.
6. Please make sure that you backup all of your important media content, contacts, call logs and important text messages. This is highly recommended so that in case something goes wrong, you can still restore your data.
7. Use only OEM data cable to establish connection between your PC and Phone.
8. Now that the basics are done.... this is how to root
How to Install TWRP / CWM Recovery on Xperia Z1 C6903 and C6902:
Download your desired recovery.img file:
i recommend philz advance cwm , its easier and you arent required to download supersu
Philz Advance CWM Recovery for Xperia Z1 C6903/2
CWM Recovery for Xperia Z1 C6903/2
TWRP Recovery for Xperia Z1 C6903/2
Place the downloaded Recovery.img file in the Minimal ADB & Fastboot folder that you created using our ADB & Fastboot Quick Setup Guide.
If you are using Android ADB & Fastboot full package, you can place the downloaded Recovery.img file in the Fastboot folder or in the Platform-tools folder.
Open the folder where you placed the Recovery.img file. E.g Minimal ADB & Fastboot or Fastboot or Platform Tools. (in win8.1 its : C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot)
Press and hold the shift key and right click on an empty area within the folder, and click on “Open Command Window Here”.
Turn off your Xperia Z1 completely.
Now press the Volume Up Key and while keeping it pressed plug in the USB cable.
You should see a blue light in the notification light of your phone, that means your device is now connected in Fastboot mode.
Now type the following command: Fastboot Flash boot Recoveryname.img
You may rename the recovery.img file for your ease of access and replace it with Recoveryname in the command to flash it.
Hit Enter and it will quickly flash CWM / TWRP recovery in your Xperia Z1.
How to Root Sony Xperia Z1 C6903 and C6902:
WITH PhilZ Advance CWM without installing SuperSu:
Boot into recovery (when the sony logo appears on boot press volume up volume down until the recovery loads)
Select Reboot System Now
Select Root device
Your phone will restart
Congrats! You’re rooted now.
WITH SuperSu:
Download the latest SuperSu.zip file.
Place the downloaded SuperSu.zip file on your phone’s sd card.
Boot into CWM / TWRP recovery on your phone.
Select Install Zip / Install > Choose Zip from SD / Ext Sd card > SuperSu.zip
Select Yes and let it flash SuperSu.
As soon as flashing is done, reboot your device.
Find SuperSu in App drawer.
Congrats! You’re rooted now.

You could root Z1 by flashing 14.1.G.1.534 and root with rootkitXperia, but it was too late
If you never use music features related to DRM, it's OK though...

As mentioned in the screenshot, my nexus 4 is connected with USB debugging ON. As far as drivers are concerned, phone is geting detected in device manager, with USB debugging ON and OFF, both the ways.
After that when i open command prompt window, no adb command seems to work. When i run "adb devices" command(without using quotes), it doesn't show me my phone. I am using the google SDK drivers only, downloaded from google dev website. Kindly suggest.
But were those the drivers that windows installed for you when you plug the phone in, or did you manually choose the appropriate drivers?
It has been a while since I've been on Windows, so I'm not familar with the process. But what he is saying is important.

Do check it out. I manually installed the drivers. But sadly adb is still not working.
Steps required to install 4.4 factory steps
@vinay28761
Here You are :
I would fully recommend unlocking your bootloader for this purpose, unlocking has many advantages and one disadvantage, that your waranty will be void, but if you do these steps correctly, you should be fine with it
1) Download the SDK from here : http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
2) Extract the folder to an appropriate location . I prefer C:/adt-bundle-windows-x86_64 , you will see sdk folder> platform-tools. This is the main folder, here u will get your fastboot and adb
3) Now when you first download the facctory image, it will be in .tgz file, Use 7-zip software (Google it) and extract it to the same folder where you have downloaded your factory image.
4) After extracting you will get .tar file, extract it again using 7 zip . All files will be extracted to a folder called occam-krt160o and you will get img files like bootloader-mako-makoz20i and radio img's . Now Copy these files namely : bootloader-mako-makoz20i , radio-mako-m9615a-cefwmazm-2.0.1700.84 and image-occam-krt16o.zip
5) Now copy the img files that i mentioned from the occam-krt160o folder and paste into platform-tools folder present in your adt bundle
For the connection part :
1) On the nexus 4 go to settings > about phone and tap on build number 2-3 times , it will say now you are a developer, now you should see a developer option in your setting menu, go into developer options and enable USB debugging.
2) Now go to storage option in the nexus 4 and tap on sought of options button present there it will say connection option or something like that when u tap it will ask MTP or PTP (basically two connection modes for your N4 when connecting to the PC), uncheck MTP
3) Now On your PC, go to device manager on you PC (Google it) and look for Nexus 4 , right click it and click uninstall and if a option is there to delete the drivers put a check on it or if there is no option just uninstall the phone.
4) Connect your phone via a USB cable it will say installing driver (It should install ADB by default).
For Unlocking bootloader connecting Fastboot and installing images.
* You will lose all data on the internal memory that is films, music, apps (Back it up )
1) Switch off your phone.
2)Hold the pwerbutton and volume down to enter into fastboot ( Phone should be connected to PC)
3) You will see a start button on top and droid icon like a repair tool ) . You will also see bootloader lock status
4) Now on your PC , browse to your platform-tools folder . hold shift-rightclick and open a command prompt.
5) Now type fastboot oem unlock on your command prompt . Now your bootloader is unlocked and all your data is wiped.
6) Now reboot your bootloader by : pressing volume down/up and press the power-button to select (when u browse by volume up/down it will show resrat bootloader or reboot bootloader)
7) After N4 comes back to your bootloader, Type in your command prompt :
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-mako-makoz20i
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash radio radio-mako-m9615a-cefwmazm-2.0.1700.84
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot -w update image-occam-krt16o
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Note: I recommend restarting the bootloader manually after flashing each image.
Now you should have a android 4,4 running on your nexus phone.
To install recovery on the N4 , Go to ClockWorkMod homepage ( Google it ) and choose N4 touch recovery download it and rename it as recovery and paste in to into platform-tools folder.
To flash type on your command prompt fastboot flash recovery recovery, img
You should have a CWM recovery now.

i am golad you are now running KitKat but to be honest searching for the instructions that you found should of been the first thing you did prior to starting a thread. There are a few tutorials out there. Hopefully your next venture into android you will take a moment to search...
Glad you are now on 4.4 enjoy my friend
Hi can you not just use the flash all.bat file contained in the factory image files instead of flashing the images separately?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
(Solved) Error while flashing 4.4 - failed to allocate memory
Tried installing KitKat on Nexus4. The package was downladed from google's page, the checksum verification was also fine. But when I tried to flash the the new firmware got the below error.
E:\kitkat\occam-krt16o>fastboot -w update image-occam-krt16o.zip
archive does not contain 'boot.sig'
archive does not contain 'recovery.sig'
failed to allocate 717312552 bytes
error: update package missing system.img
If any of you have seen this before, let me know how to overcome this.
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: The issue was with the PC - It had low memory and thus failed to allocate memory. My initial thought was that it failed to allocate memory on the phone!

Adb fastboot shield recovery image flashing instructions (RETURN TO STOCK)

This is Nvidia's own instruictions which I just followed works great! For new members please be aware that you may have to edit a command given in the instructions below which I will point out (depends on what OTA you have downloaded) for example
fastboot flash dtb tegra124-tn8-p1761-1270-a04-e-battery.dtb Highlighted in red is the name you may have to change within the extracted ota, Just look in the extracted file and locate the .dtb now just copy and paste the name of your .dtb and change the fastboot command --> example--> fastboot flash dtb tegra144-tn8-p1761-1270-a04-xda-battery.dtb
Please Read Carefully!
Follow here to get OTA
http://forum.xda-developers.com/shield-tablet/general/shield-tablet-otas-t2847116
What you must have
You need a unlocked boot loader instructions further below.
Also in cmw recovery, please wipe all partions! and reboot in to fastboot mode whilst still in recovery!
SHIELD RECOVERY IMAGE FLASHING INSTRUCTIONS
To follow the instructions in this guide, you will need adb and fastboot.
These tools are provided as part of the Android SDK:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
or you can just download this little .exe Minimal ADB and Fastboot this is what I used.please extract your recovery.zip into where you have installed Minimal ADB and Fastboot example c:\program files x86\Minimal ADB and fastboot.
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B1S0LCuXCnnmSWh6NGJmSE1BUWc/edit?usp=sharing
Before flashing this recovery image to your SHIELD, connect your SHIELD
via USB to the PC where you downloaded this recovery image example same as above c:\program files x86\Minimal ADB and fastboot.
Next, put your SHIELD into fastboot mode using one of the following methods:
SW method 1:
- Boot to android home screen
- Connect the device to linux/windows system
- Open terminal (on linux); command prompt (on windows).
- Type "adb reboot bootloader" in terminal/command prompt
HW method 2 :
- Turn off the device
- Press and hold "Back"+"Home"+"SHIELD" buttons till device boots
To flash this recovery image to your SHIELD, run the following commands from
the directory where you extracted the recovery image package. If this is the
first time you have done this procedure, you must unlock the bootloader (see
below):
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash userdata userdata.img
fastboot flash staging blob
fastboot flash dtb tegra124-tn8-p1761-1270-a04-e-battery.dtb <---------------------------------------------------------------------
Now restart your device
now wait a min or two and you have just returned to stock!
Unlocking the Bootloader
Your SHIELD may have shipped with a locked bootloader. To update the device,
you must unlock the bootloader using the following:
- fastboot oem unlock
- Press the Home button on the device to highlight "Unlock".
- Press the Shield button to confirm the unlock. Your device's bootloader is now unlocked.
Also worth noting that on Linux, you can install the "android-tools" package that gives you ADB and Fastboot anywhere.
For example, on fedora 20, run:
$ sudo yum install android-tools
Make sure you run fastboot with su- privileges (not doing this caused me no end of frustration before finding out why my device wasn't detected).

Umm having a little trouble unlocking. Am I to understand that you unlock with the device turned on ? because otherwise there isn't a home button...and where is the shield button ? I only have power and volume
buttons. This looks like the unlock method for the Shield not the Shield Tablet.

Your device should first be turned on. Then connect to PC and open a command prompt in your Android tools folder (where the ADB file resides) and type, "ADB reboot bootloader" (without the quotation marks).
Can I flash a ROW image in a US device?

How to root the Honor 8: very clear steps for dummies

How to root the Honor 8: very clear steps for dummiesRequirements:
Unlocked Bootloader
Download TWRP and SuperSU
Make sure USB Debugging is turned on, in the developer’s options.
Download and install the correct drivers and ADB tools.
Watch the video once and then watch it again to make sure you get the flow or the work.
Once you have setup the device with your PC for ADB and fastboot connections we are ready to start.
Installing TWRP
Connect your device to your PC and make sure to grant authentication to your PC over ADB. (You should be able to see your device when you type [ADB devices] in the Command Prompt)
Type [adb reboot bootloader] and wait for the device to reboot into fastboot mode
Type [fastboot devices] to confirm you have a connection to your device
Make sure to save the downloaded recovery .img in the same folder as your are running Adb/fastboot tools, and then type [fastboot flash recovery TWRP image.IMG] ( replace .img with the exact name of the downloaded file)
When complete reboot normally
When the device comes back up, open up ADB and type [adb reboot recovery]
Your device should reboot into TWRP
Do not change to “read/write” keep in read only mode and do a backup
Once backup is complete then enable “read/write” by going to “mount” and disabling the option for read only
Rooting the device
While connected in recovery mode transfer the Supersu2.78 stable to your device and install it. After installed, reboot
After rooting your device may restart 2 to 3 times. This is normal so just be patient.
System will reboot and you should have root. Test root access with your favorite root app ( I like XDA labs)
On my honor 8 I also had to accept in my phone when typing the line fastboot bootloader , if I didn't the phone didn't connect
Also I had to manually pick the driver for the connected Honor 8 in device manager twice. There is a vid about this showing how to choose the correct driver manually (google inc.->the top selection I believe) but if u have no problem connecting in adb in the command prompt typing the commands never mind this.
Good u type where to extract the twrp - MANY MANUALS MISSED THIS took me 30 min to search the info uncessesarily. Just like no one mentioned I had to accept the first command in phone for me atleast.
Does it works for FRD L19 (64GB)?
Nice guide

Complete Rooting Guide!

I have seen a lot of people using unofficial and third-party methods to root, which can result in a lot of adverse circumstances to say the least.
So I'm presenting a complete noob-friendly guide to rooting.
Prerequisites:
1. A computer ( I'm using Windows 10 but any OS would do)
2. A USB cable
3. Basic computer know-how
Part 1 (Getting computer ready)
Download sdk tools (adb and fastboot) from here
Note that in the entire guide I'm using official products.
So in Windows, download the zip and extract it in any folder.
Now download latest twrp recovery from here
The lastest version as of 7th August, 2017 is 3.1.
The downloaded file will be named as twrp-x.x.x-0-x3.img.
Now rename this as recovery.img (this will make our work easier)
Now move that file to platform-tools folder which we extracted earlier.
Also, I suggest downloading Intel USB drivers for Android from here
Part 2 (Getting Phone Ready)
Unlocking bootloader didn't format my phone but taking a backup is still important.
Now go to Settings<About Phone and click on Build until it says "You have become a developer"
Now back to main settings menu and find "Developer Options". And turn USB debugging on.
Download magisk install.zip, unistall.zip ans apk from here
Now connect your phone to PC via USB cable.
Step 3 (Rooting!!)
Now open platform-tools folder and press Shift+ right click.
Select "open command prompt here".
Now a terminal will open.
Type
Code:
adb devices
Now you will get a prompt on your phone. Accept it.
Now type
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
Your phone will automatically reboot and fastboot will come up.
Now type
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
[Alert! If you get <waiting for device> right click on start menu, select the unrecognized device and install Intel driver in it. Google for detailed instruction]
The process will start and you will get something like
(Okay ....)
(Okay....)
And type prompt. Now type
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Flashing will start.
When you get type prompt again, type
Code:
fastboot reboot
And when the screen switches off, hold power up+power button.
(
Code:
fastboot reboot emergency
should work but it's effect was same as
Code:
fastboot reboot
If you get something like red state... verification failed... Then it's a good news.
Wait a few seconds and then twrp will launch. I suggest swiping on the first screen
[because letv is almost dead and we can't expect any updates. Plus my bootloader was relocked in my first attempt when I didn't swipe.]
(I suggest wiping dalvik cache and cache)
Now you can just reboot your phone normally.
Now install magisk apk.
Now reboot again to recovery. (Easiest way is Update app>tree dots menu> reboot to recovery)
When twrp starts, go to install> download and find magisk zip. Swipe to install.
Reboot and you have a fully rooted phone!!
Will it work with Le1s eco x509
Will the given method work with le 1s eco x509
Yes it will!
Im stuck in <waiting for any device>. I've installed the Intel drivers , what do you mean by select unrecognized device and install the Intel driver in it?

Intel drivers worked for my leeco le 1s. Ideally, Intel drivers should work for all devices.
I'll make a tutorial with screenshots on setting up the drivers whenever I get time.

Click to collapse
It works perfectly on x507, thanks bro

I have seen a lot of people using unofficial and third-party methods to root, which can result in a lot of adverse circumstances to say the least.

There was a prompt for TWRP update and Magisk Update.
After it has started showing Orange State instead of Red State.
The phone got rebooted and all installed apps were deleted.
Xposed got uninstalled.
Playstore, Googlemaps got unistalled.
Camera is working.
Calling is working.
Now it shows Orange State.
Is it safe.
Can we bring it to red state?
As per this link
https://www.androidauthority.com/verified-boot-warnings-in-android-6-0-marshmallow-650368/
Orange warning: Your device is in an “unlocked” state. This means that your operating system can’t be checked to make sure that it’s safe to use.
Red warning: The operating system on your device has been changed or corrupted and is not safe to use. The device may not work properly and could expose your data to corruption and security risks.
Orange State seems to be a better state than red.

Hi l used this very step by step guides but sadly l got stuck at the :-
Alert! If you get <waiting for device> right click on start menu, select the unrecognized device and install Intel driver in it. Google for detailed instruction]
The process will start and you will get something like
(Okay ....)
(Okay....)
Here l select the unrecognized device and install the Intel drivers but it stuck at the "Okay,,,,Okay" prompt. Meaning that l didn't get this okay prompts and it keeps me on waiting the whole day.
Secondly, till this command l stop it and power down the phone, so after l power back on and try opening the "Application" folder, then it's not working anymore, it shuts down itself.
Please help!!

Don't power off your phone. Post a screenshot of what exact problem you face with driver installation.

Downgrade Orea beta to Nougat

Orea beta is great but battery drain so much.
for 30 min of screen use it used 11%, is it normal ?
and I am looking to go back to Nougat, could any one please tell me how can I go back.
Thank you.
are this instructions for downgrading ?
Set up your computer for flashing
Download the fastboot tool from the Android SDK Platform-Tools package
Add it to your path so the flash scripts can find it
Connect your Essential phone to your computer with a USB cable
Enable unlocking
Before you can flash a new image, ensure Developer options are enabled and OEM unlocking is turned on. To do this:
Tap Settings, then tap System > About phone
Scroll to the bottom of the page, then tap Build number multiple times until you see the pop-up message “You are now a developer” (It usually takes seven taps)
Go back one screen to System, then tap Developer options
Find the option: OEM Unlocking and turn it on
Fastboot mode
Put your Essential Phone into fastboot mode by doing either of the following:
Use the ADB tool packaged above to run the command: adb reboot bootloader
Reboot your phone while holding the Volume-down button
Unlock your bootloader
NOTE: Installing the factory image will erase all information from your device. So remember to backup your phone before continuing.
Run the command: fastboot flashing unlock
Press the Volume-down button to navigate to the YES option, then press the Power button to confirm
Flash your factory image
Download the factory image to your computer
Unzip the downloaded file
Go to where you unzipped the images
For Linux / Mac OS X - Run the command: flashall.sh
For Windows - Run the command: flashall.bat

Yup those are them, I just did it yesterday.
Just an FYI, I found that putting Oreo on the phone resulted in ADB not working 100% anymore, such as attempting to reboot into recovery/etc. It would just reboot back into the O.S..
Here is what I did.
- download the current release you want to flash. (e.g. NMJ32F), then unzip it into a new folder.
- on your phone, verify that USB debugging and OEM unlocking are turned on in the developers menu.
- reboot your phone into the fastboot mode (power and volume down buttons)
- from your adb command line: type: fastboot flashing unlock
- This will make your phone show a new screen asking if you want to unlock the bootloader. Use the volume down to select YES, and hit the power button. It will now reboot and erase the phone. It will eventually end up booting up too request you setup the phone. (that is what it did for me.)
- reboot the phone back into the fastboot mode (power and volume down buttons)
- you should now see the bootloader listed as unlocked (vs locked)
- from your adb command line: type: fastboot devices (which should show your phones serial number and fastboot next too it.
- on your computer, using the command line, go to the unzipped folder of the NMJ32F build you downloaded
- in the folder there is a batch file you will run called flashall.bat. run it
- your phone will start flashing the NMJ32F build
- when it completes it will reboot a couple of times, erase the phone, and end up at the "lets get started" screen.
- reboot the phone back to the fastboot mode
- from your adb command line: type: fastboot flashing lock
- select the option to lock your bootloader. The phone will reboot/erase I believe, and then end up back to the "lets get started" screen.
- after you setup your phone, you can go back into the developers menu to turn off the oem unlocking
The above steps pretty much follow essentials instructions. (the essential instructions don't give some specifics.)
You are all done. (I recommend you review my instructions and the essential instructions carefully, don't copy paste commands as I may have spelled something wrong, etc.. Just wanted to give you a flow of the process.)

I cannot get past the flashall.sh command, says permission denied everytime. I am able to execute every command to that point with out any issues. I have downloaded the latest android platform tools, and my mac is on the latest version of macOS . I have also tried to flash every single image that is available on the essential dev webpage. Any ideas would be awesome, is in possible to side load using the adb commands from the recovery menu and avoid the fastboot mode all together.

The issue has something to do with Mac and the platform tools. I was able to downgrade with no problem using a friend's Windows PC.
Sorry for the silly question, but what does this statements means?
"Add it to your path so the flash scripts can find it"
Is there any better instructions for first time user which dont include instructions like above? Thanks.

Nothing confusing about that statement for Windows, MacOS or Linux.
A command path needs to exist so that when you type the command it can be found.
