you are correct, you cannot system update (OTA) on a custom rom
you need to be completely stock

the very first thing you do is GET YR HC CPUID if you don't have a backup then do one now and copy that uid.txt file somewhere safe
be prepared for a full data wipe and I mean full!!! If you're taking this route then you have issues anyway so a full format is gonna be required at some point...
scenario one: OTA to ICS
you need to download:
iconia root and acer recovery installer
run ari and "install stock recovery us version"
then run iconia root and "unroot"
once you reboot you 'should be' completely stock
you can now system update all the way to ICS
scenario two: Flash an ICS Stock Rom
Just download one of the pre-rooted stock roms and flash that thru recovery
If you want the unlocked bootloader to install recovery then download the files and flash to your hearts content!!!!

thanks so much, its doing great now, its now allowing me to do OTA UPDATES, it did two so far, and now its doing a huge 352.mb update (other ones were 7.5mb) so i guess after its fully flushed with these other updates, next comes ICS 4.0 root has been taken out and so far so good , will report once its fully done and on ICS
mission success ice cream sandwich done!
awesome news, thanks 4 sharing,lol

your build version shows you are current to HC 3.2.1 - the next step is ICS
gingerbreak will only work on 3.0.1 from 3.1 you need Iconia Root, (i beleive)
the only real "official acer stock roms" are HC ones from vaches thread or
the ics ones from civatos thread - there are 2 stock versions here - the stock, stock one.lol and the
deodexed and zip aligned ones links (for theming and customizing with) near the bottom of the Original Post (the OP)
Your system needs to be stock as to get the ICS update,
tbh, I'd do Scenario 2 unless you know for sure you have the correct HC build path - and CPUID!!!
is it really that important??? - put it this way, it does no harm and it keeps you nice and clean, clean!!!!
You need your cpuid to do it this way
You will lose all your Data - which aint a bad thing either....!!!
If you cannot get your CPUID then its Scenario 3 a full and proper downgrade
You gotta say you've been lucky getting this far without a nandroid!! Just think of it as a way to redeem your wicked ways, lol
go back to HC, do a nandroid at full stock and retrieve your CPUID!!!!
Copy it to somewhere safe on your PC!!!!
Then decide OTA or flash Stock and hello ICS!!! Haha I wish it were as easy!!!
unlock, loadup and root it....done!
I have my ID, and I'm preparing to sell the Acer, so I want it in out-of-the-box stock form of the latest OTA. I do not want to retain root or put a custom rom on it at this point.
I don't see a Scenario 3. Iconia Root is reporting 'something is wrong you are still rooted' when attempting to unroot.

You can't install any ROM without CWM. So every ROM you must install via CWM.
so after doing all this i will be able to install TWRP and update it right?
Never Mind the ROM i want says to stick with TWRP 2.1.3

"7.3 Copy it to be on a some paper. But be careful, you must add to top 0."
You're not clear here; do I add a 0 at the beginning or the end of the CPU-ID?
---------- Post added at 01:06 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:03 PM ----------
N/m, a quick search elsewhere tells me to add a zero to the front (beginning) of the number.

Thanks.
You must add 0 to front.
I was able to root my device using the above methods, but could not install CWM.
After a lot of reading, it sounds like this is because I updated my device to Ice Cream Sandwich via OTA ("over-the-air," meaning from Acer directly).
I was able to get it to work by using the tool here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1675939
Best of luck to all else!
Hi.
I was reading your tutorial, and i must say that it is very detaild. Very nice and thank you.

Thank You

However, please remember to give proper credit / thanks to those who have made the tools necessary (i.e. blackthund3r, gersma, etc... ) and the unlocked ICS bootloader ( Skrilax_CZ).

Nice post! Glad people are still making use of my projects download stats are pretty useless because of reuploads but I have a pretty good idea of usage and, for ICS Root at least, without reuploads considered, according to Dev-Host, is nearly 10,000 for v7.1.1 alone. I'm absolutely amazed at the uptake. Thanks so much guys! Flash tool v0.4 is at about 5500 on d-h.st
Sorry I haven't been around much recently. GCSEs are taking over my life (rightly so). At least, that's what my parents think
EDIT: Can I request that the links be changed to the latest versions of the tool? ICS Root is onto v7.1.1 and you linked to 2.0.1.0 lol
There's huge fixes in it haha. Plus, the included version of A500Manager is old. The new one gets your CPUID and SBK using a combination of the internet and ADB

But, some of you may have to use the other methods. Remember this. The 500/501 can be a bit touchy at times.
But at this time, I will have to close this thread, the reason,
Nowhere does the OP give any thanks for the products used. In fact, OP has not responded to my PM.

i see you most likely have an outdated kernel try flashing this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1816087
tell me what happens
can somebody give me another link for download, i am unable to download the rom, have tried multiple times... it just stops in the middle.
thankyou.
My efs folder became blank after installing this ROM. I do have a backup but when I copy it to the root of the phone and restart it my IMEI stays unknown, and cant get service? Am I supposed to set some permissions or something?
I came from 4.1.2 MIUI ROM, now I flashed back to that ROM and everything is fine. This is really weird.

yeah that happens..
whenever you flash 4.3 over 4.1.2 or 4.0.4 then the IMEI no becomes invalid..
In your case you need to flash the rom again after you restored the files in the efs folder..
that is why your IMEI no got restored when you flashed back to MIUI....
I wont be able to do it for a while, but is it possible anyone can upload their own screenshots? i will post it on the OP, and give credit to you. thanks in advanced

I've got to say this is great ROM!!! I have used A LOT of different ROMs, but this one is probably the smoothest and fastest one ever. Thanks Cyanfox

I'm not sure which bootloader I have right now and how do I check? I'm on CM 10.2 right now with TWRP 2.5.0.0
Edit: Went ahead and used this. Worked great.
I was curious about the kkrecovery.img: I had twrp 2.6.3.0 already installed on my tf300t, which did not work to install cm 11. I noticed after flashing kkrecovery.img that the twrp version is still 2.6.3.0. But it worked to do the install of cm11. What was changed?
Thanks.

An assert was added in the updater script, which allowed for the partition change in KitKat. You are right in saying that it is the same version of TWRP though.

It has set_metadata_recursive command support which is used in kitkat roms because of the changes google made.

Fantastic
This is really great for people not willing to put up with the whole ADB stuff, worked like a charm for me.
One thing: I found the whole thing is only working if you run the "Run Me To Start.bat" from a command prompt that already has administrator privileges. Just right clicking on the bat in an explorer and selecting "run as administrator" did not work for me, somehow it can't run adb, even though the files are present in the same folder.
Thanks again for your work!
Thanks, time to play with my tablet

Does any part of this require a touch input from the tablet??
i just recovered my tablet from a brick so im back to stock 4.2
im now trying to root and flash 4.4 rom but i have no touch as my screen is broken
i can only controll the tablet through the keyboard dock and hardare keys...
so if i try this method will i eventually get stuck somewhere in the flashing procedure where it requires a touch input on the tablet??
thanks!!

Unfortunately, yes, you need to be able to flash zips in recovery as that isn't automate-able. Unless twrp works with the keyboard dock,

You can use CWM instead of TWRP as the recovery. CWM uses the volume keys to install ROMs. Use the CWM from the first post in CM11.

Do you think ART will create any problems with unlocking/rooting/recovery ?
