[Q] Motorola Droid X2 Rooting Problem - Droid X General

I am trying to root this phone for a friend. I have tried Motorola One Click and Pete's Motorola Root Tools and both didn't work. I also tried the GingerBreak app and it didnt work either. Any help would be appreciated. Here are the phone's specs (and I am putting it all because I dont know what is and what isn't pertinent info):
System Version: 45.621.10.MB810.Verizon.en.US
Model number: DROIDX
Android Version: 2.3.4
Baseband version: BP_C_01.09.15P
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9-g3e80c7a [email protected] #1
Build number 4.5.1_57_DX9-10
ERI version: 5
PRL version: 53342
And I am sorry in advance if I am just stupid with any of this. I do have experience rooting because I have rooted the original Droid.

ROOT] Framaroot, a one-click application to root
I have verified it works with these Motorola devices running android 2.3.4
Droid 2 (a955), Droid 2 Global (a956), R2D2 (a957), & Droid X (MB810)

awesome, this worked within a few seconds
now i am trying to update it to ice cream sandwich, i have searched Google and attempted a few different ones, and every time it goes to Verify update package, it fails and says failed to verify whole-file signature and signature verification failed, then installation aborted.
http://www.android.gs/update-motorola-droid-x2-cm9/
those are the steps and files i am taking, except the step to get it into bootloader is actually needing to be getting into recovery, bootloader is wanting me to connect by USB and the steps dont actually give an instruction on what to do through USB to flash anything
so i get into Android system recovery
i wipe data/factory reset
i then wipe cache partition
then apply update from sdcard, then choose the one downloaded from above site, and i get the above error message, this is actually farthest ive got than the other ones ive tried, for example, i tried the Bootstrap Recovery and it never did anything, it rebooted to the Motorola logo and nothing ever happened
please assist, i am desperate

you have a DX not a DX2, so use DX rom

that is my bad, i should have confirmed the model of it, i just went off what my friend was saying it was, i went to that link, when i find steps to follow, download links are broken
if i could get specific working links for:
how to get a custom recovery installed, working link to such custom recovery for download
working link to download a ICS rom, the best one with as much working stuff as possible, camera etc
and if the above link doesnt include gapps, then a working link to gapps that is working for the ICS rom provided
im sorry im not trying to be needy but i have been working on this for like a week and its getting annoying, i really do appreciate any and all help

everything you need is in my list sd_shadow's [Collection] of Links for: Droid X (MB810)
install a bootstrap from [HOW TO] Install/ Use Droid 2/X/3 Bootstrap
install a rom from my list of roms...
Liquid ics 2.0 is very popular

gaaps are included with most of the DX roms

ya i figured it out, thank you very much, it works and running great, much appreciated

I have a Droid X on 2.3.3/4.5.602 that I am rooting. I was going to upgrade first to 2.3.4/4.5.621 but I read your warning "*****Do not use the 4.5.621 SBF file unless you took the OTA update, you won't be able to use any other SBF after updating or flashing to .621*****"
1. Is this warning still current? ie. I will not be able to downgrade to 2.3.3. tomorrow.
2. Should I care? ie 2.3.4/4.5.621 is a good upgrade, easily rooted, so I have no need to look back or all newer stable ROMs are based on 621.
3. If you don't recommend SBF to 621, is there a way to get the OTA is nolonger on Verizon?
4. Should I at least upgrade to 2.3.3/605
I have failed to root using Framaroot 1.9.1 on 2.3.3/602. Is Framaroot not for this version?

OTA update can be done manually, but they are incremental, you will have to install 605 ota then 621 ota, but once on 621 you still can not downgrade
There are links to OTA files in my list, but I recommend using SBFs.

Sometimes new versions of Framaroot wont work properly for old Moto phones. Try this: Framaroot, works always for me.

Rooted in 605
Thank you sd_shadow and m.ksy for your speedy responses. I spf-ed to 605 and Framaroot worked like a champ.

Also, to get to 2.3.340 should i sbf the system only file or will that mess stuff up?

+1 on the Droid3 root method. Took the OTA for 602 on my son's stock DroidX and then ran the update right after. No problems.
I used this.

You can root via the instructions above but to get on MIUI you must first SBF to 2.3.34 (Google for more instructions), then root via Z4root, install Droid 2 Bootstrapper, then flash the MIUI rom via ClockworkMod Recovery.
Good luck! =D

i have droid-x and i have flashed so many roms (offiical and pre-root) and CM7 amd MIUI etc...
right now i am currently on 4.5.602 pre-root (the zip files that are part 1 and part 2)
i have my phone setup pretty much how i want...uninstalled a ton of crap with root uninstaller....already made my nand backup.
just wondering what i do from here to get OTA .602 installed and rooted and then what about all my data/apps that i have setup?
thanks

[Q] Noob trying to root. I need help!!

I'm currently running the System Version 4.5.602 on my DX. Never rooted before!!
My question is, where can I go to find out how to root my phone? Any links for the version I'm running? Or will I have to downgrade my version first? If so, where can I find out how to do that.
Much Thanks!!
a little help.
Look under pete's motorola root tools thread on this forum. everything u need is in there.....hope it helps.
Droidmodderx is a good one too
TappaTappaTappa
Google searching does wonders. Unless its something specific to this forum that I'm looking for, I usually google all my problems. Just add "droid x" to the end of your search so you know its for your phone.
As said before, Pete's Motorola tools is a good one.
On a side note...if you ever mess something up on your phone and need to SBF, MAKE SURE you have the .602 sbf file. I used to have 602 on my droidX and i ran an SBF for another version and none of my backup/restores prior to the SBF would work.
z4root also works.
You can also download it from the market (or from a google search)
edit... z4root may not work with a fresh .602 sbf (previously I sbf'ed to the previous release.. rooted then updated and that kept root)
Looks like pete's motorolla root tools is the best option right now

Milestone X - C-Spire - ClockworkMod & rooted 2.3.5?

Which implementation for "Flash ClockworkModRecovery" should I use with rooted GB 2.3.5, Milestone X, C-Spire (Cellular South)?
Droid X or Droid 2?
Thanks.
pretty sure that it is droid 2 droid x
Nothing (none of the options w/ uninstall and wiping of the Clockwork Folder) worked, then I got "DROID X Bootstrapper" from a MegaDownload or something similar
and
made my first backup. Great!
Now to tackle Custom ROMS and pitfalls. I still need to efficiently get to SBF my phone back to FROYO for security.
Definitely DROID X Bootstrapper from market......worth the money impo..
on gingerbread with the x... droid 2 bootstrap actually works better... so when ya buy one to support the dev... get droid 2 bootstrap... so you can keep usb debugging enabled...
Good to know Nemo.... Wait a minute, hell, I'm using debugging right now with the first 1.....???? What's up with that?

I tried the zergrush root but my phone would not down load. It kept saying that the down load was unsuccessful or that it failed. My phone was rooted before but when I did the update it messed up. Help. Im new to all this and still trying to learn.
That isn't an application you use on your phone...
And .zips won't download with the stock browser, is your problem.
Download it to your PC and run it with your phone plugged in.

[Q] OTA update fails

US Verizon Droid X running Froyo
Rooted last year using z4root.
Now I want OTA Gingerbread.
unrooted using z4root.
Check for updates. Download. Reboot. Shows Android unpacking animation, then yellow !. Reboots into Froyo. Update failed.
I have never frozen anything. I'm going to try setting keyboard back to stock (update: update still fails). Do I need to uninstall any root apps (Wireless Tether, Titanium Backup, Swype beta, AdFree, Webkey)?
I don't want to do a factory restore if possible.

The files are more than likely still there from when you rooted.
Backup the thing you need (not including system data) and SBF back to 2.3.34.
From there you SHOULD be able to restore your backed up things, or you can take the OTA then restore.
WARNING: If you take the OTA it may take you to .621 which I DONT recommend. You shoud probably just SBF to .602, reroot, and stay there.

You can't flash any roms or root from .621. And it is impossible to downgrade from .621 to any other firmware.

Can you point me to a current step by step guide of how to SBF to .602?
From what I've read in the 2010 posts, it seems pretty advanced and didn't always work. Maybe it's been streamlined by now?

yes but thenwhat if while flashing roms he happens to bootloop... then it is sbf to .621 and no more root. The general consensus is to avoid .621 like the plague until an exploit is discovered.
Thanks everyone. I think I'll try SBF to .602. I found a video tutorial here:

I'm still not sure why I can't get the OTA .605. It downlaods and reboots, but keeps failing to install. Otherwise, my phone is relatively fine (currently on Froyo). I am having trouble getting root back since I removed root (used z4root). I just wanted to backup some things before going to .602

Super User Help

Done some searching but couldn't find anything (maybe i'm retarded, if so plz just point me in the right direction). Started with an Alltel Milestone X (Droid X), 2.2.2 Froyo. Rooted phone, had no issues. Woke up to a forced OS update after Alltel switched to Verizon one day (did automatically over night), 2.3.5 Gingerbread. Lost my root, but Super User is still on the phone. It also removed clockwork, boot strapper, etc. Along with all backups I had made....
Issue I'm having is I can't root, because Super User is already installed.... Can't access Super User because there's no root.... Can't delete with out Super User access.... WTF phone....
Was going to look for an SBF file, but not sure if I can use one, or which one to use??? Since it was an Alltel phone, now updated to Verizon.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sbf
Ok, now what SBF file should I use? Because of the carrier switch, it's confusing to me. Some info on my phone:
System Version: 4.5.604.MB809.ACG.en.US
Model Number: Milestone X
Android Version: 2.3.5
Baseband Version: BP_V_02.1200R
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9-geadffa3

Build Number: 4.5.1_57_MX2-34

PRL Version: 40085
I would use Milestone X .604, as that one can still easily be rooted. Once you do use titanium backup or similar app to freeze the system app "updater" so this doesn't happen again. The new. 621 ota can't be SBF and is a ***** to root, so you don't want your phone automatically updating that one.
Clear cache after freezing the app too to be safe, in case your phone downloaded the update before you froze it.

You might be able to fix this without an SBF. I had a similar problem coming from .596 and fixed it using Petes Motorola Root Tool. The utility runs from your PC, not an app on the phone. I used the tool to UNROOT first, then used it again to re-root. No SBF needed. Here is a link that might help you.

And now my phone is completely f'd lol. I have no service, and it won't activate either, just reboots...
So, got a link to the Milestone X .604 SBF??
Found a .604 sbf and flashed through linux. Phone works again, but same problem, super user is still there.... Should I have lost all my apps, etc when I SBF'd?? Cause I didn't loose anything, gained a few apps I didn't have...
Only thing that changed in my "about phone"
System version is now:
4.5.604.MB809.ACG-nTelos.en.US
Try sbf from Verizon. I have a feeling the altell wont work, if you are now on Verizon, i would think your basrband would be as well
Try the 4.5.605...verizon.en sbf ... I mean its borked anyways.
Once you sbf , see where you are at.
I f you still have su but no root, I would use pete's to root again. Then try unroot.
The good news is you can pick up a dx. For around 100-150$ on ebay.
The reason I recommend the 605, is because when that updated my phone I lost root, so maybe you will luck out.
Gl ....and let us know how it goes.
Ps remember to tick usb debug, and it may be a good idea to use an older rsd as well like rsd lite.
