nexus 7 toolkit...update server cannot be locate

i know there's a thread dedicated to it but since i don't meet the post quota, i can't ask in that thread. :crying:
i can't seem to update through the built-in updater. since the author doesn't seem to want to update the latest version for download, the only option to get the latest version is through the built-in updater which can't seem to ever find a server for me.
i can't seem to get my nexus 7 4.1.2 to root. it goes through the motion but when it's done i'm still not root. i was rooted when it was 4.1.1. on system update to 4.1.2, it kept the bootloader unlocked. i don't want to 'reformat' my nexus 7 again using the unlock bootloader option. :silly:
i tried wug's rootkit but it couldn't even finish doing a backup.
Boot into a custom recovery and flash either SuperSU or Superuser. This is completely trivial and is why you shouldn't use toolkits.
crachel - thanks! all i did was download and installed 'voodoo ota rootkeeper v2.0.3' from google play store. it installed something called 'supersu' in my apps list. everything seems to be rooted now. :highfive:
i didn't install a 'custom recovery' or had to flash either 'SuperSU' or 'Superuser.'

[Q] Why I lost my ROOT when I install another ROM?´

Hi!
This is my question, Why I lost my ROOT when I install another ROM?
I have the following case.....
- CM with Android 4.3 and Rooted, working without problems.
- I install the ROM [JB 4.3 JWR66Y] [Linaro gcc 4.8] ♦ PURITY ROM ♦ (Mako) 24/10 with the CWM (before formating everything)
- I install the last SuperSU version with the CWM, without problems.
- I start the Nexus4, I try to open SuperSU but I receive the error "There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it."
- I format everything again with CWM, and I install again only the CM Android 4.3, without SuperSU or something similar.
- I have root permisions.
What I´m doing wrong, to don´t get the Purity Rom with Root??
Problem SOLVED!!
- With the CM Rom, install the SuperSU via CWM.
- Download TWRP (http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/129) and install it, but not "activate" the recovery jet.
- Open SuperSU and desactivate activate the "Super User" check, some times, but leaving at the end activated.
- Open TWRP, give root rights!!! and in options, select "Install open...:"
- Install the Purity ROM via TWRP
- Enjoy
All custom ROMs come rooted. Of course SuperSU isn't going to work; the original SU application and binary are still in place. You never had to flash anything root related.

not true. many custom roms come without supersu or superuser, where it would be the users responsibility to flash either supersu or superuser.
This PURITY ROM comes without Root, thats why they say that you need to use SuperSU

Update N7 to Marshmallow

My N7 originally is nonrooted with 5.1.1. wifi only and factory reset
Yesterday i used "WugFresh Nexus Root Toolkit NRT_v2.0.5" to unlock the bootloader, root and flash Dmitry Grinbergthe's "grouper-M-TWRP_v1.1.zip" (http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-7/development/rom-aosp-6-0-grouper-t3225584). Everything seems okay and it restarted and shows Android 6. Then i installed Gapp.zip it stuck at "Android starts, Optimizing app xx/xx" windows and finally got "Set up wizard stops" error when reboot. I tried two different Gapp zip files: "working-marshmallow-gapps.zip" and "benzo-gapps-M-20151011-signed-chroma-r3.zip" both got the same error. I have to restored it without Google apps.
Please help me to eliminate the error and install Google apps to the custom rom.
Thank you very much !!

updated to android 4.3 and supersu no longer works

Hi
I think I updated from android 4.2 to 4.3. My phone suddenly restarted (I guess I accidentally tapped update android in the notification bar). . I see I have android 4.3 now and I think I had 4.2 before.
Another thing that has happened is that supersu has stopped working. When I try to open it it says "thre is no SU binary installed..........If you just upgraded to android 4.3 you ned to manually re-root"
I really don't want to lose all my data and applications doing that. What can I do?
Thanks
Flash TWRP and flash supersu from TWRP.

You don't exactly need root to install google play.
Just a custom recovery like TWRP or CWM to install gapps.
The "most diffucult" thing is to install drivers on your PC. SP Flash Tool is pretty straightforward.
