[Q] Rogers g2 - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm new to the g2 and don't know how to tell what roms are compatible with the Rogers g2. I was told that the boot.img for various d803s are different and I'm wondering how to tell if a rom is safe to flash or not. Thanks

Only install the ROM if it says it supports your model. The model number isn't just a superficial change. If you do flash it with something unsupported back everything up. EVERYTHING. Then prepare for some bricking down the road if you forget what you have done to it. I just did a full week of unbricking because my d803 got flashed by the previous owner with an ATT recovery which was somehow permitted because an unsupported ROM was flashed onto it.
Also, if you have a copy of the stock ROM on your phone… Can I have a copy?

So if it says it supports the d803 then am I good to go? And how would I go about copying the stock rom. I'm fully stock no changes.

You need to…
Root using this guide.
Install TWRP. Just use FreeGee http://bit.ly/FreeGee
Make backups. Follow this guide.
Move the backups onto your computer for safe keeping. (android file transfer software)
Then after all is said and done, you throw some roms into a rom folder that you make using android file transfer software. Reboot into the TWRP recovery and install the roms.

There's actually quite a bit now. There's Carbon, Mahdi, Paranoid Android, Beanstalk, Dirty Unicorns (running it right now and it's pretty damn good) and Hellfire KitKat. Although I had problems flashing Hellfire, so you might want to wait till the next release. :/

Hey man, I'm new like you. Yesterday I finally figured out what was the problem. You need to have TWRP 2.6.3.4 installed (you can install 2.6.3.2 and use it to flash the 2.6.3.4 zip file. I don't know why, but 2.6.3.2 won't flash 4.4 ROMS.
I'm using Paranoid Android's most recent ROM for the D803 and it's great. I use the Nova Launcher and it provides that little extra bit of customization. I removed all of the rogers bloat crap and the thing runs like a dream. No issues so far, at all.
If you need any help with anything, or with finding the .zip for TWRP 2.6.3.4 just shoot me a message and I'll see if I can help.
Good luck!

[Q] running a jflteatt on a Canadian device

So I am rooted running twrp, and want to flash task650 rom. But I am getting a failure when I try. I also went to cwm and get same thing, status 7. This sucks because I love his rom. From what I understand, he uses a recovery with auto loki, so removed loki from his title. Since I have an unlocked bootloader, and he uses a auto loki recovery. Shouldn't I be able to flash his rom just like with the s3?

I didn't use that method, I used auto root from chainfire then installed twrp from goo, rebooted into recovery and full system wipe and tried flashing as usual. No go. I then flashed cm jfltecan and no problem... So Idk. As far as I know the root method shouldn't make a difference. I am also using latest twrp. I also tried the cwm touch recovery... Stumped!

Well I figured since I just rooted today and installed latest recoveries, np. I am reaching the end of my knowledge on recoveries. Task requires you to use shabby penguins auto loki cwm based recovery.... So problem must be Based on the rom itself maybe

I guess I will have to go and modify the zip file and remove the assert prop to get it to work, looks like the only way

Your 100% correct...just gotta change the assert in the updater-script (or remove the assert all together)...its put their by default to prevent flashing a different device roms (like HTC one on sgs4) but obviously in our case we don't need to worry about compatibility except for the kernel
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2
Well if any one finds this thread, it works. I just edited the zip file and deleted assert in script and it flashed NP. But stupidly I used goo to install twrp after I flashed and it automatically installed the loki version. I had to odin the Canadian tar file back to get my recovery working, so any canadians who do what I did, do not update your recovery through rom manager or goo or else it will install the lokified version.

Thanks for that! Now I am not completely up to speed on kernels, I know what they do in a vague way, but will be educating myself in the coming weeks, but shouldn't att kernels work for Canadian devices? If they don't always, what she I be on the lookout for? I will be doing some research on them as I have a chance... Hard right now as I have a 2 year old!

Standard recovery image.

I flashed twrp on my Verizon LGG2. I was just wondering, since I have to have the standard recovery to get OTA updates(hopefully next one is Kit Kat), does anyone know where I can find it for my phone?

You will get kitkat much faster from the developers than you will an ota

load the factory image using the LG tool. this will put you back to original stock, of course it will wipe your phone.
just an FYI, taking an OTA could possibly remove the ability to root your phone in the future. SO make sure that is really what you want.
I also have a similar question involving CWM. At the moment I have TWRP as my recovery (used flashify to install it), however I would prefer to use CWM. If I flash CWM via flashify, will it replace TWRP?

Flashify okay now?

I'm getting my G2 on Monday. A month or two ago I read these forums religiously when I was trying to decide what to upgrade to it was highly recommend not to use flashify to install TWRP. Now Im reading a lot about people using flashify. Has something changed? Has the common consensus changed? Thanks for any input.

I can't remember exactly what the issue was. Something happening after the fact. It was removed from options in the twrp guide. Maybe that was with an older version of twrp

If you don't want any problems or are timid and scared of recovery hard flash, do as citytrader suggests. It is very easy. Some people, like me, can be lazy and purposely risky with certain things and go the easy, tinkering, and sometimes damaging route. ;]

Cant flash recovery..

Hi, I tried to flash twrp recovery with some help from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2449670 but it keeps saying fail.. I tried both options.
if rooted freegee is easier from app store, it gets proper automagically.
If trying to flash via cwm, get the recovery flashable zip from the thread and not the img. Doubt thats the case
Where did you get that awesome avatar btw?

"Keeps saying it failed" What failed, in what part? Also currently there's no way to unlock the bootloader, but use loki bypass instead, basically when you have recovery installed, you don't have to worry much about bootloader or loki.
