[Q] My samsung galaxy note II went black - Galaxy Note II General

So i droped my Note 2, and when i put the battery back in and started the phone the screen was not working but the phone worked. Will a new screen fix the problem?

May be that you are luckier than you think ...
If because of the impact came off the flat connector for LCD, then it's only necessary to simply reattach this one to get device back running again.
Happened to me once with a GT I9000.

OK

[Q]Is this a LCD or a digitizer problem?

I hate making new threads... but I've been looking at different places and haven't found the right answers to my questions... so yeah.
I have a GREEN LENS Defy MB525. It has gone through some trouble. It has some blue marks and such on the screen.
I found this and will be trying the method soon to see if the screen gets fixed. But, the owner of the phone had disassembled it to change the ear piece that was broken. Afterwards, the phone's screen doesn't take all the touches.
On the QWERTY screen, when you try to use the "Shift key or any of the letters (zxc...) on the phone, it takes the keys on top of them or below them.
I want to try to fix the phone but I don't know if it's a problem with the LCD that needs to be replaced, the digitizer or simply something else entirely.
The phone is running CM 10 2ndboot 2012-12-31 but it does the same on stock. I already tested it.
Any tips or help will be appreciated to finally have a working Defy
I also found this but since I don't have another screen to use for testing... well yeah...
I had such problems before after changing the speakerphone . All I did was to get a new digitizer and clean the inner screen using lighter fluid

Okay, so it appears to be a digitizer problem?? Alright.

Because you put the phone in the freezer you maybe destroy the digitizer but also be aware to check ALL the contacts and terminals from the motherboard for oxidization.
I was asking because I don't wanna invest into something that isn't really needed. Don't have a steady income. >.>

I didn't put my Defy in the freezer though
Sent from a Motorola Defy
I haven't put it in the freezer yet.
I am thinking of doing it since it seemed to produce results in that thread.
I specifically said "will be trying the method soon".
Since it's such a strange advice I have yet to do it. I wanted to asked about my other problems before trying that.
The circles on the screen I am aiming to fix with the freezer thing have nothing to do with my problem since I've had those circles from way before the problem appeared.
It appeared when the phone was disassembled to change the earpiece. Please don't jump to conclusions so quickly. I am only considering that method to fix the circles in the screen since Auris posted in that thread favoring it.
Auris 1.6 vvt-i said:
Wrap it up in a plastic bag. Wrap it reeeeeeeally good, then duct tape it. After taking it out of the freezer, let it stay with the bag for at least 6 to 8 hours, 'cause when you take a cold object into a warm room, it condenses. Make sure your phone is well acclimated and there is no condense whatsoever. Then you can unwrap it and put the battery back in.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
All that aside... since the freezer thing is not really relevant to the state of the phone as of writing this message...
Is there a way to know if the digitizer is busted? or the LCD? It was fine until my friend opened the phone to change the earpiece then the phone started showing the weird symptom where it wouldn't let him type any letter on the third line of the keyboard (zxc...). I tried the Android keyboard (AOSP) and swiftkey 3. The problem still persist even if I go to stock rom.
Let make a little light: The color problem relied to LCD and the keyboard malfunctioning is from digitizer. Because is improbable to broke both from one shot disassemble again, reattach CAREFULLY the digitizer and LCD and power on. Good luck.
do i9506 and i9505 have same displays?
hello,
today i gave my i9506 in repair for changing display unit. the man in the shop i gave it to said that there is no difference between i9506 and i9505 when repairing the display and they will build the i9505 into it. but i read somewhere that there is a small difference. do you know about that? because i am confused now and scared that they will break my device
Hey
If I were you, I would contact Samsung support by mail or phone and ask them if this statement is true. I could believe it's possible, but again you never know when it comes to Samsung. They could have changed a little bit...
Done. The Support couldnt give me an answer on my question.. I will see what happens.
U can compare the devices on different internet sites and u will see that there is NO difference between those displays
well, there might be no difference, but actually, yes there was ! o:
i got it back yesterday, and it worked for 1.5 hours with restarting whole time and than it was dead and didnt boot normal or into recovery or download mode.
Now they have to reapair it better.. with i9506 display that will work 100%
yes.. they have differences.. if you control the codes on the seller sites you can see that they are different and incompatibles. it seems also that i9506 is a little brighter and larger. anyway the product codes are different
Hello.
So? Is there any happy ending?
I have changed display from i9505 too. and Phone is hanging, turning off and overheating...
Im interested if this is because of different display or because phone was wet when damaged display...
update: removed Antenna + Loudspeaker. phone still hot. but works now. So i do not believe that it is because of screen....
hey, nice to hear that it might not be the screen, for me the result is still unknown. My device was not working after letting them put i9505 display in it. It worked for quite an hour, than it restarted very very often and suddenly it didnt do anything at all. No Download mode or recovery mode too.
The shop said, that the software was completely deleted for no reason. but they flashed the firmware again but the problem with rebooting and after all having a "dead" device was still there. Now they are trying to find whats cauing this problem, and the will send it to samsung if they dont have a plan what it could be ( but i definetly know, that it has to do something with the screen, because earlier, befrore the display change, EVERYTHING worked fine!).
Im so excited how it will end, and especially, who is going to pay, if samsung has to repair what the shop has done wrong
Its really interesting....
I think they could break something when disassembling screen... It was quite difficult to remove some flexible cables as they were stick to screen.
If you have Samsung warranty then you can take only to Samsung dealers to repair, otherwise you loose warranty. That's how it is in my country.
update: My s4 was dead for half a day. but now fully working. have already flashed recovery and rooted... works like a charm
(it were restarting sometimes, after rooting restarts somehow have stopped)
finally i think (and i hope) i got a solution. Thex have ordered a i9506 display unit and finally understood that theyve done something wrong. now they will try to fix it and see if the fault was caused by the screen or not ^^ in some days i will now more
Well after trying to learn a bit about difference between i9505 and i9506 and shv-e330s i came to a conclusion that they might be the same device if samsung didnt magically decide to complicate things. I9505 and i9506 have different hardware and their displays are obviously not interchangeable. But, nowhere on the entire frickin internet was i able to understand is i9506 actually shv-e330s. Or are their screens compatible. So i asked samsung like this:
Hello! I would like to ask is there a possibility to replace a broken display on SHV-E330S S4. My father purchased the phone in South Korea and brought it to Croatia, but the phone fell and broke the LCD display. I am trying to find the display for SHV-E330S but I cant find any on the internet. My questions are - can I order a replacement display from Samsung directly? Or can I use the display for i9506 S4? They seem to be same variations regarding hardware inside, except for the DVB tuner antenna for SHV-E330S. Thank You in advance for Your answer.
Their response was just that they cant offer service outside of korea and that they are very sorry. Havent even mentioned the question about i9506 and shv-e330s.
So there ya go. You got shv-e330s outside korea? No help.
different screens
Hello there,
yes it is a different screen
I suppose it is interchangeable because I9500 or I9505 screen (I can't remember exactly) is working fine on my phone. BTW, I got the part and replaced by myself.
But, please note if they replaced your front panel as well, probably your MB was damaged. The front panel is a different one.
Hey,
Yes there seems to be a problem, at least you cannot use a i9506 screen on a i9505 Phone.
Seems to be a Problem with the connector, because the screen works until somewhat applies too much force on the conector (not much, just a tip with the finger is enough), like the backcase does when it is clipped back on. So the connectors might differ on the on the models. Hope this helps someone.
I sanded down the raised metal bit on the right of the motherboard mounting area. It fits almost but I have that pressure issue. Do you have more info so I can figure out what connector is pushed
Digitizer Replacement - doesn't work - wrong version?
I'm replacing the screen/digitizer on my Nexus 4.
On the replacement, the screen works fine but the digitizer doesn't respond, while if I plug in my old (broken in half) digitizer, this works.
I notice the digitizer board looks slightly different, on my old one the ribbon says "LGINNOTEK Rev 1.0", while the new/replacement has "LGINNOTEK Rev 1.1"
While I suspect the replacement is simply defective, could it be the different version isn't compatible with my Nexus 4? (It's definitely a Nexus 4 screen/frame)
Hey, I'm having exactly the same problem. to test the new part i turned on the cellphone with the old LCD+Digitizer and with the cellphone on i changed to the new one and it worked fine. The problem is that when i reboot the cellphone the digitizer stop working again. I'm still trying to find what to do. if any one has any suggestion it would be great
Same here. I also changed my Nexus 4 lcd and digitizer doesn't work. After RAFP_87 post i did exactly the same and it's working until the first reboot. It would be great if there is a fix.
I'm another one having exactly the same issue. I can sometimes get the old cracked lcd/digitizer working... swap it out for the new one and everything works fine... until I reboot.
Question: Is everyone running 5.0 +? I wonder if it has to do with lollypop.... I'm going to try rolling back to 4.4 and see what happens.
EDIT: 4.4 had no effect, downgrading to 4.2.2 seems to have done the trick... 3 reboots and I still have touch... but what does it mean? Sigh... ****ty non OEM replacement hardware most likely...
Almost forgot about this thread, thought it was just me...
Didn't try swapping the touchscreen over while it was running. However I had already upgraded my phone to lollipop (one of the pre-official releases from the development forum). pixelpump did you try upgrading the phone to a newer android version afterwards?
Noticed as well as the slightly different version the circuit board for the digitizer looked very slightly different - could it be a non-OEM/unofficial/cheap knock off?
Thing is, I've sent it back to the seller but looks like Royal Mail have lost it (it's insured) :silly:
Since rolling back to 4.2.2. everything seems stable digitizer wise. Thankfully, as I'm not really in a position right now to upgrade. In any case, I did try upgrading to 4.3 (which is the the OTA update that pops up after running 4.2.2 for a bit.) and the digitizer stopped working. Seems this new batch of digitizer replacements has incompatibilities with the newer code. This was my 4th screen/digitizer replacement... the last 2 have had this issue, though the 3rd one's problems were intermittent... this last would just not continue working through a reboot. The latest hardware does look sketchy though, the digitizer chip reads "Synaptics" as it should but the ribbon cable reads "Snaptics"... lol, for whatever that's worth.
It sucks to be stuck at 4.2.2 but it's better than not having a phone at this point.
Not really, just Cyanogen and a couple others... if I had the chops I could maybe cook out a rom with an older digitizer driver built in but that just seems like too work Besides, my daughter cracked the screen again already. It's impossible to guarantee Gorilla glass when ordering replacement parts I guess....
Water damage story.......insight wanted.
I bought a friend of mine a LG G2 and within a couple weeks she managed to have it take a drink. The horror on my face was, well, horrifying when i was told. Anyways about the phone.........
She knew to immediately put the phone in rice which she did.a few days later i get the phone into my hands, moment of truth right? First thing i did was to take it apart and see if there's any corrosion on the board or any leftover residue which i found none. reassembled the device and plugged it in for........well i dont know why, i just did. I read online if the phone shuts off immediately after contact with water your chances are good. Anyways the phone showed signs of life. It began booting up past the LG logo to the boot animation of "Desolation ROM" where it freezes and than loops freezing at different times of the boot logo.
Download mode works so i decided to flash the KDZ 20C. The phone boots up entirely into the OS and works with few *issues. Two things i have problems with, the internal storage doesnt appear** on the computer regularly, and i must "adb reboot recovery" a few times before it successfully will boot into recovery. but i can manage with that. I rooted it through sideload, installed autoRec and got TWRP flashed and working. I did flash the new TWRP so that it mounts the storage to computer. anyways so i went to flash the rom, Desolation, Resurrection Remix, and Bliss pop with the same issues. ive dont everything multiple times already to no avail.
Ideas? anyone?
*issues: it thinks the headphone are plugged it and rapidly cycles the animation.
** it varies from one flash of the KDZ to the other i can "adb Push file /sdcard/"
Solution: buy her an old Nokia
Buy a new logic board.
From my experience over the years water damage is a 50/50 shot.
On one hand you get a 100% recovered device with minor repair...i.e replace battery and or LCD and you're good to go.
On another hand you have weird malfunctions i.e headphone jack saying its plugged in when its not....dead wifi, dead vibrate, no data connection...the list can go on and on...
When this happens, unless you're skilled to replace the ICs on the logic board with some skillful soldering, I'd pass and either sell or use the phone for parts.
Start fresh with another used G2....maybe one with a broken screen you can get cheap and swap parts over to your phone.
Oh yeah...have your friend buy herself an S6 Active...
Have seen a few logic boards in ebay sell cheap the last 2 weeks. You may get lucky and replace the board with a newer/better condition one and fix your problem entirely.
I'd recommend buying a new battery too
I'd inspect the LCD and light box underneath to be safe as well.
If both look like new you're safe there.
Basically:
I Think i Ruined my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and i need Help! :(
Hi. I have a rather weird story please read it. So, some months ago my Note 4 died and it wouldnt turn on anymore with no signs of life. Itried it with a friend's battery and it still wouldnt turn on so i thought that the problem might be with the motherboard so i bought a new motherboard from china. The problem is that even iwth the new motherboard that i just replaced my phone stilll wouldnt turn on! What might have i done wrong? Please help
It's possible you haven't reconnected all the connectors especially one or both of those on the back of the motherboard that click into place.
It's also possible that the failure is for another reason other than the motherboard.
My SM-N910F has recently failed with no prior warning with no indication what's causing the problem. I've tried adding the padding on the eMMC chip trick but that doesn't work for me.
can you please show me where the 2 connectors that need to click are?
