[REF] [GPE] Moto G Google Play Edition Stock OTA URLs - Moto G General

This thread is for owners of the Google Play Edition Moto G to discuss OTA updates. It is NOT for discussion of how to convert a normal retail variant to a Google Play Edition, discussions on how to get the GPE ROM onto other variants, or discussions on GPE-based custom ROMs for other variants. Please discuss these topics in another thread. Thank you.
Below are a list of all known Moto G Google Play Edition OTA updates. Each time there is a new OTA update, the links will be posted here as they become available. If you get an OTA notification that we don't have a link for, please pull the filename out of logcat for us before applying the OTA and post it here. Once you post it, I'll update this post and mirror the file on my website, http://randomphantasmagoria.com, in case Google pulls it down in the future.

I'm in the UK and this is what I see

It'll be Launcher3 and not GEL.
Only difference is the GNow page.

Oh yeah, good point; I only just noticed the page dot layout. Either way, Launcher3 without the blurs on the icons will still be nice
EDIT: wait a second, on the status bar I see "Say OK Google"... I'm pretty sure that only happens on GEL...

Good eyes, the picture does indeed show GEL, then. Whether it's right remains to be seen

Question. Will it be possible to flash the GPE edition firmware of the Moto G and to flash it on the other Moto Gs? (XT1034 etc)

Next bets on Google Editions for me:
1. xperia Z1. This thing is a powerhouse, coupled with the extra waterproofing and A* build quality, this is an opportunity Google shouldn't miss.
2. Moto X. (This has sort of already been confirmed but y'know things might change)
3. LG Gflex. This a unique device with great hardware, regardless of the 720p screen. The ability to bend and take almost as much stress as a Nokia 3310 is also a plus I guess

If the hardware is exactly the same (i assume yes) then of course, and if not wait till someone makes a flashable Experience .zip

Also, since this GPE isn't modded by Motorola, does this mean the Camera will be better?

Stock android has never had image processing as a strong point, I doubt camera will improve by much, you might see a 'miniscule' improvement in the camera since 4.4.1 did bring some pretty serious fixes, but I wouldn't count on it

It would be great if we could flash GPE software

Dunno about better, but it will be different. The AOSP camera isn't exactly award winning.

Only reason I stick with stock camera is the Photosphere, since it's proprietary Samsung code that Google got licenced to use only because of the GNex and Nexus 10, that's why it's not in AOSP

There won't be a photosphere. Moto G doesn't come with a gyroscope. That's why it is sold at one third the price of other GPE phones.

How long until they post factories?

[Q] Question about GOOGLE Edition GS4

Do we know whether apps like Watch ON and the sensor extras (motion/eye tracking) will be supported by the google edition phone? My guess is we wont have to wait long to get the Google edition software onto our AT&T versions.
Google edition will have a pure android aosp system, and that means no.

The article can be found here.. The photo below shows it having air gestures and view so MAYBE its all true or maybe its still just a rumor at this point..
Maybe not WatchOn but the it blaster may still work with an app from the play store if air gesture and air view are really going to be included..

No worries.
I hope the Google Edition does end up having some sort of support for the IR blaster, ect, but I really doubt that will happen. What I'm really looking forward to is better camera support...the camera software on current AOSP roms is woefully inadequate, especially considering how mediocre the camera is in the first place...

I've had an iPhone since about three months ago (because they were the only phones readily available to be bought used and without a contract), but have always kept up with Android. It doesn't seem like innovation stopped. What are we missing now? Cyanogenmod seems to be packed with innovative features, so does AOKP.
BTW, great signature.

I don't think any iPhone is in the works for omni at the moment
I felt what was missing was a team to implement ideas that have never been imagined by the average person, or have been thought of as to be "too difficult" to implement.
I feel this rom, and the team behind it, is the answer to this problem, which should open doors up in other teams, including cyanogenmod
And thanks

It WOULD be a feat to crack the iPhone's bootloader past the iPhone 3G and get Android booting on there, wouldn't it..?
So, the OmniROM will not just be another copy of another custom ROM? Now that it's being mentioned, I do feel like a lot of them just have the same features.Maybe that's why I'm not fully satisfied when I habitually flash new ROMS.

I work with someone who builds for the iPhone. I might get them to add omni support for it.
Omni is based on aosp (the stock source from google). From their patches are added to support an array of devices. Then new features are added. Seeing as it's a fairly new project (only been around 2 months), there aren't a lot of new features, however there are a few ones to note
They are adding true multi window support
The quick settings tiles are flipable
There see, so to be a new app called "OmniGears". I'm unsure about what exactly this will do, but it seems to contain rom specific settings
I hope this is enough to convince you this won't be a "copy of another rom"

Multi-window sounds awesome. It's one of two features, the other being Watch-on, that I found useful/interesting from TouchWiz. Now, all I need is a download link... I don't even care about bugs.

Random Builds-AOSP

I've been messing around for a few days trying to get AOKP on my Moto X. Finally got it working. Thought I would share the build. It has been a while since I ran AOKP and I'm surprised to say that it isn't what it use to be...Anyway, here is the build. I still have some sepolicy stuff to sort through so it has the kernel from yesterdays cm nightly.

GAPPS~~~~> http://goo.im/devs/kxp/gapps/aokp-full_gapps-kk-20140211.zip
Check under your Google acct after setting things up and make sure you didnt get a sync error. If you do just uncheck then recheck everything. It will sync correctly. I havent encountered any bugs yet.
And It should work on ALL variants
Of course you do flash this at your own risk...

I was gonna try to get Moto X up to date in AOKP but doesn't look like there is any interest in AOKP anymore. Very unfortunate. I remember when AOKP was most peoples favorite :-/
AOKP used to be my favorite, it was awesome - loved the customization features. But I realized it was a little heavy and switched to slim as my new fav. But since I've been on the moto x I haven't felt the need to flash any roms (not that there were any available ). stock has been great and Xposed + gravity box solves all my customization desires and more!
I appreciate the effort though, I might give it a shot if I get bored. Thanks!
PS What did you mean when you said it isn't what it used to be? better or worse?
Aokp used to be bad. Ass I loved it but after ICS/job they dropped a lot of customization and its not really worth it for me I guess. I'd rather flash a cm bases rom these days. But still awesome you got aokp going!!
Sent from my Moto X using Tapatalk
I have to agree....it isn't disinterest in aokp, for the moto x anyway......its just I'd say the majority stay stock and use gravity box. So they don't lose their moto features.
Awesome tho that you brought it to this phone.

Sorry for ot.
I miss lots about the moto x....my wife has it now and loves it!! I just missed the busy development community and the freedom of a nexus. I got bored with my perfect moto x. Lol
Now I've discovered multirom.
Never need to wipe my daily driver and can flash ROMs left and right.
As far as comparison.... They're very comparable phones. The moto x is definitely my recommendation to almost everyone....UNLESS they like to play with the phone like us xda'ers do.....nothing beats a nexus for that.

Same as non touch wiz based ROMs for Samsung.....no Samsung features. Etc.

There is not an AOSP based rom that has ANY of the stock Moto X features you refer to. Probably never will be. Active display can be downloaded from Play, I believe its called ACDisplay.
On another note. I've seen people discussing the speakerphone issue in other threads. FYI @dhacker29 fixed it and I have yet to see any other "bugs", in recent CM builds or this AOKP build.

They released it for the Android One and testing it on the nexus`s. I guess OEMS have it too and they are testing it.
I think that going by how fast we got the 5.0 update, we will get 5.1 update as well. Sooner rather than later.

Yes, I agree
I read somewhere that you can gain double the performance in some circumstances with the 5.1 update. If that's true, I'm really excited about this release. I really liked lollipop on both my Nexus 7 and my Moto G. It's a great update, probably the best one Google has ever done. The ART runtime is amazing and it sounds like they've made it even better, faster, and more memory efficient in the 5.1 update.

Unless of course you live in the US. We still don't have it. But it's okay. We all use the bloatware carriers put on our devices and in no way root immediately and remove any of it. It's a good thing it's delayed for months because I don't know what we would do if we didn't have access to AT&T Remote Support, Mobile Locate, AT&T Live and AT&T Locker. Those apps are lifesavers. -.-
Cant wait to see if there will be any leaked pictures of 5.1. Hope lg is working on it... How does everything think it would run on this device. Slow? Same? Better?

None.
You all can ask them on twitter so we can get some answers.
If you guys ask for the official release then i think it will take a while. Lg g4 is rolling out in 20 days so taht will delay the official 5.1 for our device.
I ll stick with custom 5.1 roms and surely i ll wait for the blisspop 5.1
If you like to be update in the same time on all your differences devices pass to the other side

Android 5.1 rolling out now! Finally!

It seems that nobody talk about it... Updates are always welcomed!

edit: It's true! It's rolling out after more than 3 month of waiting
Well someone mentioned it in another topic. I think we'll have to wait a few days (or weeks). Mostlikely we'll see a custom 5.1 first, as the source code is already published.
Anyways, I look forward and hope that the did something with the memory management. I looked at their changelog and saw that ~20 memory leaks was found and fixed. That is the major issue for me at the moment. Multitaksing with two tabs in Chrome and spotify playing along with FB+messenger is really horrible. Also I'm planning to run custom ROM/Kernel after they have been updated to 5.1.

In the official android team blog, it talks about "Device protection" upcoming feature in lollipop 5.1.
This feature will be available on most Android phones and tablets shipped with Android 5.1 in addition to Nexus 6 and Nexus 9.

I hope this sentence proves in some way that N-9 will get Lollipop 5.1

did you happen to have captured the OTA?
Looking at the build number i'm pretty sure that's a custom ROM not the official stock ROM...
"lollipopalooza" indeed ...
Looking at AOSP flounder kernel commits, I see that most changes are related to the GPU and WiFi.
Can't wait to try it.

It does make sense. First 64-bit device. Maybe they have to da some more adjustments. But could be a reason imho.

Also different chipset. Although the only tegra three in the N7 has it
Ugh well this is taking way too long. The memory leaks are making my Nexus 9 almost unusable at this point. Not exactly something I expected when I paid $600+ shipped to Canada for the 32 GB at launch.
