[Q] LG G2 Recovery Won't Update - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an international LG G2. I'm trying to update it to CM 11, but my CWM recovery is version 6.0.4.0 and I need 6.0.4.4. I tried updating through ROM Manager, but every time I boot into CWM, it's still version 6.0.4.0. I tried to use ROM Installer, but came across an error. I tried using Flashify to update CWM by manually downloading the CWM recovery image online, but also came across an error. Would really like to fix this problem.

I'm also having this issue on the ATT model, with the "6.0.4.5 CWM-based recovery" that came with Freegee. Trying to get the legit CWM 6.0.4.4 to flash and I can't do it.

Grab the zip file. Boot into recovery and install the zip. Never user rom manager ut doesn't work well with this phone

Zip file? I can only find the img files on CWM's official website. I tried to use Flashify to install that, but when trying to boot into recovery, the phone got stuck at bootup and I had to hard reset it and it went back to normal with the recovery still at 6.0.4.0 unfortunately.

Been using Phil's recovery lately it is built off of cwm . http://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/d800

Uninstall Philz Touch 5

Hi. How do I removed / uninstall Philz Touch 5 because I want to try TWRP 2.6.3.0. I had installed Goo Manager and installed TWRP but rebooting to Recovery, it will reboot to Philz TOuch's recovery.
Thank you.
flash this twrp 2.5.0.3 zip in recovery and then reboot recovery. see if it sticks. if it does, stay on that version. i've heard it works better than the newer releases. cheers
Just flash TWRP in your recovery

You can't use that to do it. You have to take that zip file that beerdroid posted and save it to your sd card. Save it in the root so it's easy to find. You have to boot into Philz and flash that zip.
I don't ever recommend the Goo Manager. There has been so many people that has had problems with it, especially after flashing a new ROM. It's not because it's a bad program, it's because sometimes when you flash a new ROM the prop changes so it tricks Goo Manager.

I'm experiencing the same thing. TWRP wasn't able to load the Cyanogenmod SNAPSHOT, but Philz did and I don't have WiFi just like when I loaded the unstable version so I'm trying to delete Philz and it won't go away. Why did my TWRP disappear? arghhh...... I wish I had a Nexus 5.

Can't boot into custom recovery

Hey all, trying to flash CM10.2 on my G2 and I'm not able to boot into a custom recovery. Here's how I did everything.
Rooted - all was successful as far as I can tell. Was able to install Titanium backup and backup files and allow root.
I downloaded ROM Manager and installed CWM. When I went to boot into recovery, i get the error with the Android a red triangle exclamation point above him. So I tried to switch to TWRP through Rom manager, no luck. I tried to 'flash' TWRP through the command prompt and download of the recovery file, no luck.
I saw somewhere to download SuperSU, so I did that and tried again, and same issues. When I 'cleaned' SuperSU, uninstalled and reinstalled it but this time chose 'use custom recovery' - it tied to reboot into recovery, saw a standing up right android with a spinning icon, but then went to the same error.
Obviously I'm missing something somewhere. Can't figure out what.
Thanks for any help!
Don't use rom manager. Either use adb and push the recovery or use the app flashify to install the recovery. There are many threads ids the development sections on how to install recoveries

Thanks, Is there a way to undo what I've done from rom manager? Because I used adb to push the recovery and still had the same issue, and using flashify to flash the image doesn't seem to work. Booting into recovery just gets me to stock recovery asking 'do you want to factory wipe your device'
Edit: When I boot to recovery from within flashify, it gives a 'boot certification error' upon booting

Are you using a recovery that has been Loki'd. The G2 needs this to by pass the bootloader. By that error it does not seem you used the correct recovery file.

I used the one from here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2449670 - 2.6.3.3 and just flashed it with flashify most recently. But I was having the same issue when I installed it via adb and 'option 1' as shown there.
Yeah, when flashing that recovery image using option 1, I still get "secure booting error - boot certification verify" after I reboot into recovery
Huh, I got it.
Reading this post here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48118278&postcount=567
Someone else was having the same issue as me. The newest recovery gave him that same error. Flashed 2.6.3.2 and it worked fine. (So far)
Glad to hear. Good Luck.

Phil's Recovery flash method?

How did you guys managed to flash Phil's CWM? There were 3 TWRP thread guide for LG G2. What did you use and what method before flashing Phil's? I hope he'll release a flashable img for his CWM.
Use this one it super easy. After that flash Philz from TWRP.

I flashed TWRP first, then from within there flashed Philz, and it works perfectly. Now I can store my backups using USB-OTG. Perfect!

I used option 1. Easier is not always better. Option 1 is the safest way.

I first downloaded and installed "Recovery Tools", from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2334554
I then downloaded TWRP for my phone from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2501444. I only used this link to find TWRP
for my phone (Canadian D803). I didn't actually follow the directions on this page.
Once I had the TWRP .img file, I used Recovery Tools to flash TWRP.
I then downloaded PhilZ Touch Recovery from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2554053
I booted into TWRP Recovery and from there, flashed PhilZ Recovery. From that point on, when I boot into recovery, I get into PhilZ instead of TWRP.
I still haven't figured out how to boot into recovery using the power/volume buttons. I've tried a few times and I can't get it to work. However, Recovery Tools has a reboot option, and that works great for now. Of course, if I get into trouble and can't access this app, that option is gone
*Edit* I finally learned how to boot into recovery using the power/volume buttons! :victory: I followed the instructions given by bodom_hc here:

How in TWRP did you flash the PhilZ Recovery. I have used the "Flash Zip" file option and when when I boot back into recovery I still get TWRP?

I did the same thing. I chose "Install" in TWRP and selected PhilZ recovery. After reboot, PhilZ just came up by default. I didn't do anything else myself - I'm pretty new to this. Did I just get lucky?

Black screen on recovery?

Hey guys, I was looking for some help because I just rooted my new lg g2 I just got a week ago, and I wanted to flash a custom recovery. First I tried just installing cwm recovery using the rom manager app. When I rebooted into recovery, I got the little android dude with the open chest and the little red hazard triangle above it. So then I looked up how to install a recovery and I found the app flashify. I downloaded the twrp file and tried using flashify to flash it. When done flashing it asked me if I would like to reboot into recovery and I hit yes. It showed the LG logo for not even a second, and the screen just turned black. My phone runs fine, perfectly normal, I just can't get into the recovery I installed. Anyone ideas?

Just to verify, you downloaded the Verizon IMG file openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.2-g2vzw.img, and installed it using Flashify?

Download the app freegee and install twrp using that.. Its a one click procedure that always works..then you should be able to boot into recovery no problem.. Don't use flashify to flash recovery.IMG because I have had some problems doing it that way with this phone for whatever reason... Trust me.. Freegee works like a charm
Thanks

[Q] Recovery lost?

Hello everyone! Think that I did something kinda stupid today..but not sure. I have installed cwm recovery (philz version, latest) but today I was transfering over a backup to my pc (I removed it from phone to pc), well that was what I thought..(the file was TWRP, since it was a twrp nandroid backup and I had twrp before cwm) so later, when I tried to go to recovery, I couldn't, I tried with FreeGee, but nothing happened...so does this mean that I have lost my recovery? I tried to put the files back on phone where they was but it doesn't seem like that have helped...
So any other methods to get into recovery mode? And have I lost it by deleting a twrp file containing a backup and a twrps. file on 2kb?
P.s when I look into the TWRP folder, I don't have the twrps file....is that the problem, and what is that file? Is it loki or something?
P.S 2: My phone is working fine..
Anyone?
If you're still rooted, you could install Goo Manager, which will allow you to install a recovery.

I do have root, and I am running cloudystock 1.2 (kitkat), but can I just install a recovery since I am on a stock kitkat rom? Think I have done it now.....
What ROM did you have when you first installed cwm?
Sent from my VS980 4G using xda app-developers app
I had stock 4.2.2 rom when I first installed recovery, but I overwrited my twrp recovery and installed cwm (that too on stock 4.2.2 rom
Try installing Quick Boot (free in the Play Store.) It provides an easy way to boot into recovery. This should show whether CWM or TWRP are still on your phone.
