KitKat 4.4.2 Rolling Out - Moto X General

Not sure if this is the Moto G version, or Moto X aswell, but Motorola Official Blog just released a note:
KitKat Breaks into Europe - The KitKat goodness continues to roll out at a furious pace! Last week we began rolling out Android, KitKat 4.4.2 to carriers and regions in Europe. Check the software updates release page for the latest on your device.

It's for the moto g

Why does the G get it before the X?

Anyone knows when this update come too moto x? :/

I have a feeling the hold up on 4.4.2 is the broken Google now voice search aka hollow microphone bug.

The UK version is launching February 1st with Kit Kat so I'm going to hazard a guess it'll be out then

...because the X already had 4.4 before the G, so it needs a second upgrade. The G only needed one upgrade to go straight to 4.4.2.

Thread title should be changed.

Well, the band for LTE from Germany matches those from XT1058.
Let's just hope for it.

Great... Just great... Now the Moto G even has a Google Play Edition!! Its alost a nexus now! :-/

I could care less about the Google play edition, after using the Motorola add on's I wouldn't want to lose touchless controls or active notifications.

If Verizon can push a 4.4.2 OTA just as quickly as 4.4 before, I'll be in shock. But who knows.

That's also the reason that the moto x will probably get updates a little slower than the G. The G doesn't have any of the features of the X, so it's got less to port /update.

VZW HTC One to VZW Moto X

I'm thinging about giving the Moto X a go. I currently have an HTC One. Anyone here made this switch? Any concerns or regrets?
Thanks!!!
I have both - one personal one work ... The moto x is significantly more enjoyable to use with all of the nice features moto added ... 32 GB was important to me so I went with moto maker

Yeah I plan on keeping the One at least for a little while. Thinking bout going with the Dev Ed.(32gb and unlockable bootloader) since I will be paying full price anyways.
I'm thinking on giving up the Moto just because of Dev support and lock bootloaders. I'm still debating since I just got the Moto a couple of days ago. How is your experience with the ONE?

The Dev support is ok on the VZW One but not even close to other variants and Im unsure why Dont get me wrong, I love the One. Its probably the only device that I ran stock and really didnt mind. The build quality IMO is unmatched on an android device and the sound quality is not just loud its crystal clear. But I was in BB the other day and picked up the Moto X for the first time and my instant thought was, "WOW, this really does feel GREAT in my hand without sacraficing scren size!". Then I dug more into the features of the phone and came to the conclusion that it that these features arent just gimmicks like they were on the S3 and S4 when I had them. I wouold only by the Moto X if it were the Dev Ed. Not really for ROMs but for root(I needs my wifi tethering and Titanium Backup) ;0)
This makes my decision that much easier!!!

[REVIEW] Moto G Motorola vs Moto G Google Edition

Moto G Google Play Edition hands-on vs Motorola’s G

When we heard about the Moto G being offered as a Google Play Edition handset, we immediately scratched our heads in wonder. Why would Google offer a device from their own store with the exact same price as the original device when the software is essentially the same? The answer lies in Google's unique plan, the one where they hand-pick the most appealing devices in the market and sell them themselves - all other matters pale when shown in the face of this Google Play Edition long-term goal.
What you've got here is a device that's essentially the same as what we saw in our original Moto G Review. There we found this 720p 4.5-inch display atop a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor working with great everyday action. It takes photos well, it works with essentially every app you could possibly want to work with, and it's got a replaceable back cover for fashion-friendly change-outs.
Here with the Moto G Google Play Edition, the differences are software-deep. There aren't any Motorola apps right out of the box - this includes Moto Assist (read a bit more about this in our original Moto G hands-on), Motorola Migrate, and Motorola's "Help" app. The camera is Google's standard camera now, instead of Motorola's, giving you a few different abilities as well.

You won't be working with Google's Photosphere shooter in this machine's camera because the Moto G doesn't have the gyroscope needed to run such a feature. You'll be able to take photos with this camera's connection to your volume button, but it's not quite so easy to zoom - if you're into that sort of thing.

Doesn't mean it will work. HTC One FM app doesn't work on Htc One GPE.
Google has a habit of at least disabling in software (HTC One, Nexus One), if not hardware (the rest).
They just omit a shared library or framework file or two.
I'd bet software disabling of FM is part of the GPE contract requirements.
I'd be interested to see how much free space there is in the GPE version. With less bloatware and no moto services they might have reduced the size of the /system partition, giving us some extra space for user data,
This would be particularly welcome on the 8GB version.
Amazon doesnt get the GPE editions, correct?
^ this would be interesting

NO GEL by default.
But I would definetly install the firmware from GPE edition on my Moto G

Am I mistaken or goes this google play model now no longer support TMO's 1700 AWS?
Appears it is same band as global and not US gsm version, right?

FM Radio?

Can anyone with the moto x pure edition(US version of the style) try and install the Motorola FM Radio app(from the play store) or NextRadio app to see if its compatible? The Moto X play and motor G don't list it as a supported option, but I can see people on youtube that have it installed when the swipe through the app drawer. I can't find anyone with a x style that have it installed.
Thanks!

Reason you can't find anyone with it installed is because the Moto X Style hasn't been released yet. It is released in September.
No Radio????
<Record comes to a screeching halt> The Moto X Pure has no radio? Some people really need to have radios in their phones. I don't see this listed as an option anywhere for the Moto X Pure. That is a basic feature that all phones should have, especially one that costs as much as this one does. The Moto G 2014 (2nd generation) at $179 has a great FM radio. Can anyone confirm if the Moto X Pure (US verion) or Moto X Style has an FM radio or not?

Thank you for the information brother. I would have made the same mistake and have been as upset as your mother. You know, Motorola should start phones out with the basic features and the build upwards from there. Wouldn't that make sense...? (rhetorical question). If the $179 Moto G has a radio turner, the Moto X that costs MORE than twice that price should also have the same. The Moto X is a nice looking phone. I guess I'll have to look else where.

Anyway, when deodexing the stock ROM I found a file in /system/framework called qcom.fmradio.jar. what it means and what it does I don't know. Honestly don't care either.

How's your SOT on the Moto G6 Plus?

I recently bought and returned(because of a small hardware defect) a Moto G6.
Now that I had time to think better about what phone I want, I'm thinking a Moto G6 Plus or Redmi Note 5 might be better for me.
Only thing I need to know to decide is how much battery life I can expect to get from the Moto G6 Plus.
So, how does it do? Can I expect to get 6 or 7 hours SOT while on 4g? Maybe 5?
Thanks!

I get about 3,5 hrs SOT in the 90-20% charge range - mostly phone, text, whatsapp, telegram, skype & websurfing.
Gets me through the day, but I think having a powerbank available ain't the worst idea...
Using it since last friday evening with full NFC cloning from my S7, will check again after a fresh setup some time.
