First month with Xperia Z1 after owning HTC One - Xperia Z1 General

I'm a previous HTC owner but traded it in for a Z1 last month. Both are great-looking, well-built phones Below is a list of the pros and cons of each from my perspective.
HTC One Pros:
Better display quality
Much better speakers
Zoe and VDO highlights: two features I miss the most
Blinkfeed….though many slag it, I actually liked it, and easy to turn it off anyway.
Xperia Z1 Pros
Much better camera in all conditions
Micro SD card support
Waterproof
Physical camera shutter button
Larger screen
Slightly faster performance
Lighter skin
Two great phones. The main reason I upgraded was for the camera, and no Micro SD card slot is too limiting for me. Very happy with the Z1. I hope Sony can improve the camera application to allow user to take more advantage of the great camera. Happy with the Z1, but really miss HTC's ZOE's and Video highlights. I hope Sony can create something similar in their next software version.

Cool..but what about the build quality? Which one do you think its more premium?
thanks for sharing

What about one having an absolute garbage of a speaker?

I thought he covered it by saying the HTC One has much better speakers..

Build quality is excellent. THE Z1 feels premium in the hand. HTC One and Sony XPEria Z and Z1 have got the best Android build quality bar none.

The SD issue would also have been solved if you had a HTC ONE Dual sim version, like i do, so the SD "issue" is not 100% fair...
The cam on HTC one has a mutch better auto feature...
- but on the Z1 at least have the hardware to make a great camera down the line, if Sony will do the work... 4mp in the HTC ONE is simply sooo last century...

Well, the speaker on the Z1 is garbage in the same way that all mobile phone speakers are garbage. The HTC One is the only mobile phone or tablet with decent quality speakers that I've ever used. That said I listen to music on my stereo or using headphones, so in most situations, I don't use the phone speaker anyway.

You forgot to mention the Much better Battery Quality the Better Grip (aluminum is slippery and easily scratched) Better Lock/Power button placement (hated the upper one on the Htc)

I have handled both extensively and I'll give it a tie. The Z1 feels more premium with the glass on both sides however the HTC One's unibody design overall is nicer to hold in hand and the aluminum has its own charm. The Z1 feels more 'solid' because it's heavier but they are both equal in build quality.
In terms of usability I will give it to the Z1 completely. Although it's a bigger device the side power button makes it a million times easier to use than the HTC One's power button on top.

I also switched from HTC One since two weeks now and I don't regret my choice.
Personally I prefer the screen of the Z1 and I really feel that it is faster, the only thing that disappointed me is the camera I was expecting more from a 20MP sensor, photos that I took were all noisy especially in low light conditions, I hope that Sony will improve the camera with future updates.

The speaker is just limited by Sony. Once you flash the volume mod it's a perfect speaker for a sumergible phone) remember the speaker is water protected?)

[Q] camera quality

Im going to purchase a new phone from Verizon soon. Just wondering what people think of the camera quality of the XP. Looks like the Droid Charge, also coming out on vzw about the same time has an epic camera for a smartphone.
Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
In general. Nobody beats Sony cameras. However they use standard gingerbread interface, which takes away some of the cooler features seen usually on their phones. Still I p personally would say quality is superb.

My DHD has an 8mp camera and my XP only has a 5, yet the XP camera beats the DHD's hands down
Wasn't really impressed with the DHD's camera either. It had that magenta tint in the middle of the pic. Haven't given the play's pic quality any thought and that's a good thing for me then it must be good, cause I'm very visual and bad pic quality would have struck my eye as it did on the DHD

Sony Arc vs HTC

Hi,
I am considering the Arc to be my next phone but I would like to know about its video capabilities. In nearly all HTC phones, when recording in low light conditions/at night, the camera tries to compensate the lack of light and this tends to make the video lose frames and to be really choppy. Does the Arc perform better and does it skips frames in bad lighting conditions?
Thanks!!
Videos are great on the Arc, I'd say better than on HTC.
Didn't test it on my Arc yet but in youtube are smooth videos from the Arc.

Most of HTC phones have really ****ty cameras, actually the worse on the market.
Don't even wonder. Arc is another planet.
best cam of HTC is at Sensation, and is one of the best on the market now... i think
HTC Sensation is a class lower compared to Xperia Arc - not only with regard to the camera.
Dualcore is not everything.

Even mobile-review proves different.
GSMArena has a comparison of the LG Optimus 2X, HTC Sensation and Samsung Galaxy S2 which also features various other handsets at different junctures.
When comparing still image and video capture, they also throw in the Arc for good measure.
Draw your own conclusions.
If u own 1 HTC, then you own all off em because they all look the same. That's why I bought the ARC.
I agree, HTC phones are one class lower than SonyEricsson in terms of build quality, design and phone technology.
By just comparing the phone battery technology, all their phones are still using Lithium Ion Battery while SonyEricsson's phone are using Lithium Polymer and everyone should know that there are more benefits for Lithium Polymer over Lithium Ion Batteries.
Hey thanks for all your replies. I think I'll have to try one at the shop to get a better idea on the device itself before deciding. Still, the camera seems to be the only thing that appeals to me - the screen is a bit small (I've own 4.3 hd2/desire hd and now a 5 inch dell streak). Will definitely have to play with it - still the Arc seems to be a very sexy phone!
Thanks all!
Some of these replies look quite fanboyish.. there's a reason HTC sells so many phones..more than SE atleast
Anyway, add me to the SE fanboy list Until I get bored of Timescape I will stick to SE
There are 2 simple reasons why htc have and still do sell more phones than SE....
1. They've been in the android business since the start..
2. Until now SE's android phones have been relatively poor, and therefore SE had a bad rep.

I have a last question : If the zoom function is used while recording a video, does the camera automatically auto-focuses the video to make it clearer/sharper, or is the video blurry when zoom is used like in every phone model? Thanks!!

I've currently got an Xperia Arc and a HTC Desire S. The camera on the Arc is superior to that on the HTC as is video recording. I've actually been a bit shocked by how poor the HTC Desire S camera is for pictures although a friend with the new Sensation says that it has a great camera, he does however qualify that by going on to say it is great "for a HTC camera" which to me, says it all.

Hi,
I have the HTC Desire Z and I would like to get a 2nd phone.
There are only 2 options for me: The Arc or the Desire S. I think both HTC and SE are top manufactures in terms of design and build quality, the rest are just iS**t clones
I like the Desire S because of the uni-body aluminum design, but I think The Arc is nicer. I am a little bit concerned about the quality of the plastic on the Arc's back, an also i don't like the size ( 3,7 seams ideal for me).
I don't care about the camera, but I'm sure SE's is much better.

Sound quality (headphones) and DAC

Guys please post about the sound quality, loudness and DAC used in this post. Many might get to have a hands on and they can tell us more!
And this is regarding Headphones/earbuds only. Not speakers as we alrady kow they are powerful.
Music is important to many here i am sure

First of all the One is freaking loud and has tons of bass and the audio is really clear aswell. all these things are better than the great experience I got from the xperia Z, the decidng factor for me to choose the one over the z was the fact in headsets the one is clear, much louder and much more bass and music what I mainly use on my phone.
Thanks man..i think we discussed this in XZ thread as well..I guess both of us have the same taste in music and sound quality alongwith loudness
Did you go hands on with the HTC ONE?? And how?
Well I sure hope it sounds better than the One X & the One X+ cause they where pants.
Dreadful audio, beatsaudio is a pile of poo. Just put a good quality DAC in & Ill use Poweramp - Sorted.

I went down to Phones 4 u, oxford street (bond street) shortly after the launch to play with it, to see if it was worth changing to the one from the z and from my 3min play with the one, i pre ordered it. then went back to play with it some more.
I found the camera/video and video sound better than the side not a major difference but i thought images were sharper and audio was alot better on video (my opinion)
sound in headphones is far better than the z in clarity, loudness and bass (fact)
screen is better (fact)
I also find the UI on the one to be better (my opinion)
phone is faster and smoother than the z (fact)
obviously loud speaker is better (fact)
also when watching movies you can take pics with a dedicated on screen button rather than holding down power button/down on volume button which didn't work all the time.(fact)
things I didn't like about the one is no memory card slot and the fact in the menu you have to scroll up/down instead of left/right not a biggy though.
this is not to say the z is rubbish as it really isn't but just in major areas I find the one better.

Does anyone knows wich DAC does the s600 use? Audio quality is my main concern and a quality DAC like the wolfson found on the exynos 4 and the cirrus found on the iPhone 5.

Wow cool man..Its always nice to hear from a person who has had a hands on experience.
Just few questions..
1. Like in butterfly the speaker and headphones had separate amps..does HTC ONE also has one for headphones? i know it has for speakers.
2. Does it feel smaller in hand? i mean its 4.7 screen is taller rather than wider [breadth]..so does that make it look like iphone 5?

despite being taller than the s3, it certainly doesnt feel it. It also feels somewhat smaller than the z (even though on paper it is minimal) and better to hold in the hand despite being thicker but thats it because the back is rounded.
I dont know if it has a amp for the headphone jack but based on that experience it really doesn't need one if it doesn't have one that thing is crazily loud and bassy.
Infact i couldnt even have it on max volume just like with 8x otherwise you'll lose your hearing whereas on the xperia z i wish it was a bit louder tbh and I proved that I was right today because I went down oxford street played with it in the three store again and I could hear noise from the traffic outside and the sales assistant that was talking to me which isnt good imo. I like my music loud so when i am outside i cant hear a thing and also bassy aswell and the one covers this by far.
it does sort of resumble a iphone 5 in the way it looks tbh.
I just cannot wait until the 15th its pain staking that I waited so long for the z and now its nearly here now i have another long wait for the one.
Thanks for the inputs..I understand how u feel man..Same here...XZ is round the corner but ONE is coming on 15 march india..Patience has its limits too
Great device. I want to love it. But history tells us that thus far nobody has delivered outstanding audio from a Qualcomm SOC. I hope this is the one where they prove me wrong!
Audio aside, this could be the one where HTC finally takes a BIG bite out of Samsung. Except for audio concerns, I would be ordering one today! I will be anxiously awaiting tests.

I ordered Silver, can u tell me how is viewing angle between Z and One ? which one do you feel more premium feel?
Viewing Angles is easy: the Z has a TN panel (which results in very bad viewing angles, as some sites such as phonearena suggest). SLCD3 still uses IPS as far as I know and on some pictures it was clear that the viewing angles are still superb
Just one glint at a picture of the Z and it was clear to me that the display just doesn't meet the expectations. Blacks and saturation/contrast in general are terrible. What's the point of 1080p, where you see the difference to 720p in some cases when you look closely when at first glance the contrast/blacks totally turn you off?

viewing angles and infact the whole screen was just better on the one not to say i think the z is rubbish, just that the htc is better. also i feel that the one is more premium due to aluminium design again not to say the z doesnt feel premium. TBH the z is a great phone just the one is a greater phone and i believe had htc used 16gb memory + memory card slot or even have the 64gb version in the uk it would sell more phones as I know people complain about only having 32gb (about 26gb free memory).

Noise/dynamic range have not measured up to iphone & samsung/wolfson on any snapdragon phone to date. I hope this is the one.
I wish somebody would test hacked Android phones. For example, all the reviews whine about low volume but it is a five minute root/file edit on many phones.

Trying to decide between experia z or htc one

Ok i gave my htc one to my son and will be buying a new phone part of me misses my htc one and have no complaints about it,part of me wants to go with the xz, im in the us on tmobile so both have lte and both are awesome phones just looking for any input, i know its my decision just trying to get some advice from xz owners
Go to a store and play with it for 10 minutes, then decide, no one will tell you what will fit in your hand, which interface will cover your needs and please your eyes. I believe that both phones are incredible, I own an Xperia Z of course.
I really recommend trying the camera of both.
I bought HTC one for my sister, and I saw the camera very bad.

Try S4 our is good also

I bought the HTC One and sold it after about 2 weeks. I took it on a cruise, and was terrified of taking it anywhere, the pool, the beach, anywhere near the side of the ship.
I found it was extremely sippery. That metal makes it hard to hold. Also, it was incredibly easy to scratch/smudge. Also, the camera really wasn't that great. I really liked the Zoe feature and the autmatic gallery but I've since found some Android apps that do almost the same thing. The Z camera is hands down better overall.
I bought the Xperia Z and have been using it like a real phone. Not afraid to get it dirty or wet. I even took it in the water at the waterpark last week and took some great pictures floating down the lazy river. Can't do that with the HTC One!

And the battery life really isn't as bad as everyone says. If you know you're gonna need long battery life on a particular day, disable Bluetooth, LTE and GPS, dim the screen down a notch or two and I think you'll find the XZ has really good battery life when you need it. With everything enabled I never have trouble getting it to last a day with about an hour or 2 of screen use and about 10-15% left at the end of the day.
Personally, I'd go with the xperia z

I wasn't speaking of copying Zoe, but rather the auto clip creator the HTC one Gallery does. Check this link for apps that do a similar thing (though more manually)
http://techbuzzes.com/2013/03/best-video-editing-apps-for-android/
Having owned both the Xz and One, they both have there plus and minus points.
The One has the best external speakers on any smartphone out there, incredible in fact. Zoe is fantastic and since i got rid of my One, that is the main feature i miss along with Blinkfeed, which at first i thought was going to be crap, but once you load it up with Facebook, twitter and your favourite news and television channels, its so handy, also the infra red control of your tv is pretty amazing as well.
The Xz has a larger screen and if you view straight on I would say its clarity is the best on any device, the sound through the headphones with all the sony options is near perfect, also you get to be able to expand the memory with a microSD which the One doesn't have, for me taking my smartphone out for a run, the xz I could simply lob in my running tops pocket and it repels the sweat and rain, where as the one or any other phone you have to put in a sandwich bag or something another minor thing i like about the xs is the power/volume button locations are absolutely spot on, perfectly located for me anyway.
Alas there is one thing that totally lets down the xz in my opinion and that's the WIFI, its totally appalling, Same router at the same time, the One could pick up a signal right at the end of the garden, the iphone lost if half way up the garden yet the xz lost it in the kitchen, didn't even make the sunroom, maybe mine was a faulty unit...I could live with the mediocre battery life and the poor viewing angles, but the weak wifi was a show stopper.
HTC one Boomsound is amazing, compared to Xperia Z speaker ("crap")
but Xperia Z water-resistant, sometimes i like to wash in with water, somewhat fun! lol
Xperia Z camera win in "quantity", 13MP
Both of phone, almost same camera quality.
What i like from xperia z
- Clearbass, is perfectly clear! (get a good headphones, the one included is clear, but not "soul shaking clarity", and low sensitivity, very low volume.)
- 80GB of storage (16GB internal + 64GB microSD)
- Build quality, Glass and polyamide frame (HTC has nice aluminium unibody too!)
- 5inch FHD display (same as HTC one)
I've owned Xperia Z.

When you say crap... Can you rate I to a scale of one to ten... Considering Htc one is a ten... Currently I have the one. But I want the so y z.
How does speakers compare to let's say the samsung galaxy s4 or iPhone 5?
The reason you don't listen to music through the built in speakers on smartphones is due to the fact that most are pretty poor speakers. Until the htc one came along with its stereo front facing amped speakers. They really are a step above anything else. Alas the Z's speaker as its only one side mounted low quality thing. But thankfully listening through headphones is phenomenal on the z
Scale 1 to 10 external speakers
Htc one.... 10
iPhone 5....6
Xperia z....2
Scale 1 to 10 headphone listening
Htc one....9
iPhone 5....8
Xperia z....9

Best of Sony... is not really great..

First, I'd like to say that I'm not trying to hate on Sony or bash them, just pointing out that what they call "the best of Sony" isn't exactly great or better than the competition, though I really just want to point out about the display and camera. I moved on from the Note 3 to the Z1 (lost my Note 3, wanted a good phone with a good camera for a low price so I got an Xperia Z1), and here's what I've noticed.
Display:
Well, there's no other way to say it: for a flagship phone, the Z1's display isn't that great. Viewing angles are poor, and viewing it at even small angles puts a whitish hue over it that just doesn't look good. It might be good for privacy, but otherwise it's plain to see that they're using an inferior IPS tech than other manufacturers. The Note 3 or the Nexus 5's displays are clearly much better, and so is the one on the HTC One from early 2013. I've heard that the Z1 Compact finally has a great screen among Sony devices, so that's great, but I feel that many Sony fans are clearly ignorant of how much greener the grass in on the other side when it comes to displays.
Camera
To be honest, this is the biggest disappointment I've had with the Z1. I don't know if Sony was focusing purely on lossless zoom when adding the 20MP camera, but when it comes to resolved detail and visible noise, the Note 3's camera was better despite no fancy tech and standard sensor. Sure, it has a 13MP camera while the Z1 takes photos at 8MP after downsampling, but in general its photos are clearer and more detailed. I've tried taking 20MP pics, and they just do not come out as great as one would expect (if they focused on lossless zoom, even that hasn't worked out well in general outdoor photos), and Sony has basically squandered a nice opportunity.
But on the flip side, I love some things about the camera. It's fast to open (mainly thanks to the camera button), it's smooth, and is quick to change modes, which helped a lot on my weekend trip with my family.) I don't like that HDR isn't a dedicated mode and is simply a switch when you select 8MP photos in Manual, but other than that, it's pretty good overall. In fact, the quickness and the shutter button are what make me ignore the fact that in quality I've come down to a noticeably not-so-great-at-capturing-detail camera (the Note 3 took ages to select modes, open the camera app, and open pictures.)
That's something that's true in Sony's software overall: it's beautiful, sleek, and quick and responsive. I do miss some features from the Note 3 (Multi-Window, Smart Stay (extremely useful when you can't be bothered touching the screen to keep it awake), some camera modes, and the better multitasking (my Z1 is abysmal at holding apps in memory, and not because it's just 2GB of RAM.) It feels good to use, and that's a pretty good thing.
But again, the screen and camera have let me down considerably. Again, on the flip side, I love the phone's build (though it's a bit too bulky, but then it is waterproof), and things like the lanyard slot and camera button (conveniences manufacturers have forgotten in their quest to copy and follow Apple since the first iPhone arrived on the market).
So in the end it's clear that "the best of Sony" just isn't the right thing to say when your tech is behind the competition in some things and just isn't as great as owners of flagship devices of the competition have become used to. The pricing is great, though, but I kinda don't think I'd want to save a few bucks next time I want a phone, not unless Sony focuses on making the hardware more complete regarding awesomeness.
Sorry for the rant, and again, I wasn't bashing, overall I like my Z1, just don't love it (yet)!
P.S.: My Galaxy Gear is also now sitting idle, but I guess we can blame Samsung for making its watch incompatible with other devices. It's a useful watch, but not in use anymore. There is a hack to make it work with others, I tried it with the Z1, but most stuff just doesn't work. So I guess I'll buy Sony's smartwatch next. :silly:
P.P.S.: I hope KitKat comes soon. I like that Sony takes time to test its software, but with Samsung and HTC moving pretty quick with KitKat despite having heavy skins, and Samsung has even managed to not introduce any quirky bugs (they disabled third-party accessories, but an update over the weekend reversed that), I really want KitKat to come quick. I want wireless printing support (Samsung had this even before KitKat, one of the few reasons I appreciate Samsung's bloat sometimes, it has some useful features), and it might also solve the issue of lack of RAM on the Z1, even if only a little bit.
This is what you do on Sunday afternoon? We know Z1 is not best like expected.

Saturday Night? You should be in some club! ..ahah...just kidding...I know...I am really disappointed by the camera too....what I can surely said is that the problem of the camera quality is related to the Software, but I don't know if we will get better pictures. Many telling me that the Z1 make amazing pictures but mine is not fake and I still not get clear pictures like it should be. Full of Noise, and with Unlocked Bootloader get even worse.
I understand what you're saying, and you have valid points, but these type of complaints come up with every phone out there.
The HTC One has exactly the same Camera complaint that you do. The UltraPixel was a big disappointment for some. The thing about the Z1's camera is that it CAN be improved. The camera is actually extremely good if you use it in manual, and the pictures that come out are the best I've seen on an Android phone. Superior Auto is a bit of a mess though. That's a software problem, not hardware, so we hope kitKat can fix that.
The display is a valid complaint, but I feel head on it's better than the Note 3. The Z1 has one of the most color accurate screens out there, which I prefer over AMOLED oversaturation. The viewing angles personally for me isn't a problem but yes, it is a negative about this phone.
So in the end it's clear that "the best of Sony" just isn't the right thing to say when your tech is behind the competition in some things and just isn't as great as owners of flagship devices of the competition have become used to

Well, the Z1 IS the best of Sony...not sure what you're trying to say. I still feel like the Z1 is one of the best phones out there. Although lacking in some parts, the overall package is hard to beat: Snapdragon 800 processor, great battery life, great camera (Yes the camera is still very very good, just not as good as advertised), and best of all premium feeling. There is really no other phone that has all that together in one package right now. The Note 3 is better in some respects but for me feels cheap, and that is a HUGE con for me that overshadows anything else. The Nexus 5 has meh battery life and camera. The HTC One has a meh camera and lower end specs. The Galaxy S4 is no longer talked about when discussing high-end phones.
The point is there's no 'perfect' phone, and I concede that the Z1 does have weaknesses, but so does every other electronic device out there

Uh huh.
My advice to you, since it appears you wrote this to practice the writing career you're hoping to have, is to consider other career options. You're not good at this.
learn to make the picture and you will find Z1 camera is great. all the comparatives with Note 3 and the other smartphones take Z1 on the top of Android world
display is very good. poor viewing angle are not a gap, but I can assume it is subjective.
when I watch photos and videos on Z1 display they are much nicer than on other displays.

Not so sure about that ...
HTC has the best software updates ATM and fastest after Google.
It has the best low light camera + best smart flash with the 5 modes
Average daylight shots
best front cam with wide angle
The best mics hdr mics
The best speakers
The best headphones sound
It's the most quality phone
It has the best screen in overall
It has unmatched feel in the hand
Ir blaster
Ois
60 fps video + zoe + really working hdr video
BlinkFeed which is still unmatched with copies
Decent battery life
Great xda development
Most of these things aren't yet matched by the competition which is shame imo since htc one is 1 year old and it's still considered the best overall package phone even in 2014 and I doubt anything but HTC one 2 will surpass it which is only a month or two away.
A lot on that list are gimmicks and a few items there are disputable. If HTC were as ahead of everyone as you make them appear to be, then that's extremely incongruent to the terrible shape the company is in.
Another "OMG Sony why did you do this to me" thread.
Sony rules!!

I don't want to get in a fight about whose phone is better, but everyone's got different preferences in a phone. A lot of the points you mentioned are opinions, and really can't be said in a comparison.
The most 'quality' phone and 'ummatched feel' is extremely subjective.
The Z1 is no less in quality than the HTC One and has as premium materials.
The Moto X and Z1 compact both have better feel, just because they're smaller.
Z1's battery life has been much better for me than HTC One in my experience.
Headphone sound is exactly the same for me. Beats is a gimmick and just a equalizer preset which I can also set on my Z1.
I will admit the HTC One's speakers is miles ahead of the Z1's and the display is better.
Camera as well is a lot better in the Z1 in daylight, but I remember you're the guy who wrote that HTC One vs Z1 camera test and I don't want to get in a fight again about that, so I won't go there. HTC One's better in low light, but the Z1 isn't that bad either.
The Z1's camera has a ton more features as well that are pretty cool to play around with. Gimmicks? Sure, but they're still fun. Also the Z1's viewfinder is much smoother.
All front facing cameras suck equally and don't believe there's a 'best' front facing camera.
edit: Oh, also concerning updates: This is the first time HTC have actually done well with updates. We'll see a year from now how they treat HTC One users. One X and One X+ users are stuck with official 4.2 while the Xperia T, which came out around the same time+, just got updated to 4.3. Sony might be slower at giving updates but they support their phones longer.
See, I just refuted half of your points. Of course you will disagree with me, but that's what's great about Android: everyone has different preferences and different opinions on what's the best. The HTC One is a fantastic phone and is my number 2 after the Z1, but it's still not the best for me. Nothing wrong with that.

What exactly is gimmic ?
Ir blaster is very useful
Ois is very helpful in low light / movement or any other type of using the camera / 60 fps video is smooth as camera app on z1 and looks like you're looking thru the glass when watching an video / hdr video is awesome as well at low light , so is the zoe especially if you wanna take out some snaps after which are full sized , I forgot slow motion video as well which is fun tho.
Smart flash is very useful indeed and can take photos from 5cm in pitch black up to 10 meters , with the walls it can go even further
Stereo frontal speakers ...how is this a gimmic lol , anything you do on a phone sounds crazy good + loud + it hits you in the face.
Full metal body is always a good thing , it screams premium ...
Feel in the hand indeed is unmatched due metal + device shape
hdr mics pick up the sound you wouldn't believe that the phone is doing it.
I've forgot also talking via phone is unmatched as well , you get stereo sound + you can talk in super loud environment perfectly fine.
Headphones sound wouldn't be a gimmic as well lol ... Ppl just use that ...on daily bases ..
Software updates is definitely not an gimmic we all want fast and working updates ASAP ,which is not the case with the Sony , it's far from it.
Xda development for me personally is very important since I love to flash + the fact HTC one has about 9/10 times more development it's a must have for me.
The only gimmicky thing would be if you don't like the the BlinkFeed that'd be all which can be turned off.

lol
I had Xperia z1 , camera sucked , phone was too hot and screen is utter **** , so I changed to HTC one for the same stuff you wrote here!
Honestly I am huge fan of HTC but actually I do not brought HTC One, which was cheaper, just because there is no micro SD Slot, and when Apps to SD will be available on Z1, or even Apk on internal and Data on SD on Custom Roms, I will not have regrets to have Z1.

Nah mate it ain't fight Lol. I was just pointing that there are devices which are quite more complete. Of course I can't think of anything else besides z1 that comes equal to m7 pretty much all devices lack design and quality which both z1 and htc have.

Coming from a T-Mobile HTC One S and being left hangin' with no further updates from 4.1 Jellbean...I jumped off their bandwagon and upgraded to the Sony Xperia Z1S.
I'm glad that HTC is finally wiling to support their top tier products, but a bit too late for me...HTC lost in my book.
The clear winner (for me) is Sony! :good:
