Been using 4.3 on my telus I337M for over a month now. Everything has worked perfectly except for MMS. My apn settings are fine, i've flashed three different roms over the last month and a half. No call or data drops have been noticed.
My best guess is that the baseband didn't properly flash (although my phone does say MK6). I used this thread to do so

when using MobileOdin, my android was green, I held the power key for 10 secs and it rebooted my phone. It said MK6, so I assumed it succeeded, except for mms.
I can't reuse MobileOdin, since I'm warned that its not available for 4.3 yet.
My question is, how can I use Odin to reflash my baseband? I'm an Odin novice. Unless someone might have another idea as to why my mms is no longer working after the update.
Go to sammobile.com and download the mk6 firmware. Use that in Odin

Two questions... won't I lose root when flashing the firmware from sammobile? Also, won't that install Knox and cause a bunch of problems? I have the baseband itself, I just don't know how to install it through Odin.

You will definitely lose root and you'll have to re-root. Knox will also be part of mk6. What do you mean you have the baseband? But you don't know how to install it with Odin. What file format its it in?

It's a modem.bin file, which I heard can be flashed through Odin. I originally flashed it through mobile odin, but the mobie version doesn't as of yet work with 4.3
I have Odin 3.09, I just don't know where to load it within Odin, or what spots to tick or untick within Odin. Its a confusing program for me. I don't want to wipe my phone (although i'll backup just in case), but just want to re-flash the baseband through the modem.bin file (MK6) I got from the link in the 1st post. I just need the steps in order to do that.

Ok, you'll want to load it in the phone slot in Odin, browse to it. Just have auto-reboot and f.reset checked. Don't check anything else, this should be the default settings.

You can only flash .tar file formats using Odin(desktop), a .bin file will not work.

Difference of opinion here. DO NOT Check auto-reboot. Odin and the mobile.bin have to cook for about 2 min 15 sec or the change won't happen. When you get a green pass on Odin and the bar on the face of your phone is finished, then you can unplug it and manually reboot the phone. The modem.bin file will work, I've done it several times now.

Thanks for the tips.
I was hoping that the modem.bin file would work, it loads in Odin but fails once it tries to flash onto my phone. I've tried all the basics (reinstall usb drivers, different versions of Odin etc.) to get it to flash but am currently stuck. There's something i'm missing. Any ideas as to what that can be?

Have you done as I suggested and unchecked the auto-boot box and allowed things to cook for a full 2-1/2 minutes? That was the key for me. If you check the auto-boot box it will never install. This is a step by step guide:
-start Odin.
-Select "phone" and fetch the modem.bin file.
-Only thing checked should be "F. Reset Time"
-Put phone in download mode
-Plug in USB
-hit Start
Let it reboot and thou shalt have signal (this is where you wait the 2-1/2 minutes)

In the top left box, it loads modem.bin and a green bar slides across. Then that top left box goes red and says FAIL!

It seems that when it writes to the phone it gets stuck somehow. I'm not sure why. My only guess at this point is that because my cat ate my original cable, it could be the issue. I tried using an HTC one cable, a nexus 7 2013 cable, and an "official" samsung cable I bought off amazon, all without success.
I also tried installing samsung USB drivers which also doesn't seem to have worked. Some others have had the same problem on xda, sadly no solution.
Try using Odin 3.09?

See if Odin 3.09 will do the trick for you. You can get it here along with other good info - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2189539 and here are instruction with a picture with download info. Make sure the mobile.bin file is in the CP (Phone) flashing area. Did you let it sit and cook for the full two minutes? If Odin recognizes the phone your drivers are probably ok.

I tried 3.09 earlier and it didn't work for me. But this time I downloaded the modem from the site you passed along and it worked perfectly.
Finally, odin worked and the file flashed. Thanks a lot for sticking around for the long haul and helping me fix this. I really appreciate it.

Glad I could help. I went through the same series of frustrations. There is enough info on this site to solve most any problem.
Got a i337m (Rogers), flashed this twice via ODIN but baseband version still stick with I337MVLUAMG1. Any clue?

That guide was for the i9000, the international variant of the Galaxy S (it even says it's not for other variants at the end). Your best bet is probably to get it into download mode, and use Odin to flash the DI01 all-in-one file (using the PDA button!).
If you unbrick your phone, and STILL want 2.2, go into the Development section and find one of the posts about upgrading to EB01 rom... but still, be CAREFUL.

I've read over and can't confirm where your error occured. I'd try again. You did select pda correct?
yes i tried in PDA. My error was using the techlive article for the I9000 galaxy s and not the fascinate SCH-i500 I'm not sure what it is but something isnt letting me go back.

4. Choose each section in Heimdall and add the appropriate file, including PIT. Check repartition. Primary boot loader is boot.bin and secondary boot loader is sbl.bin.
5. Start. Boot once, check for problems. If problems persist, continue.
6. Reinstall Samsung USB drivers for Odin. This may require a PC reboot.
7. Put phone back in download Mode and start Odin, making sure its detected.
8. Load the entire Odin package, not extracted into the pda section of Odin. Include the PIT file. CHECK repartition.
9. Run the process.
If all goes well, you should be back to stock, crappy Eclair 2.1 without force close errors.

I got my S4 these days. I have flashed XXUAME2 with Odin, rooted the phone, tried MIUI, but was not satisfied. So I restored the backup. Everything was working fina till I installed Adaway and rebooted the phone. Suddenly the wifi was not working anymore. I clicked on the wifi-witch to activate WiFi - no result. Then I rolled back the backup, installed the I9505_XXUEMJ5_MODEM, installed even the "fix". But the wifi still does not work.
Now I just want to have a normal S4 with the original rom, rooted - and working wifi.
What should I do?

Hello mate please download this file and flash it via odin by selecting phone, and Remember to turn it off your phone manually before flashing any modem,If the problem still persist please tell me if your in old bootloader or the new bootloader and will be happy to assist you have a nice day.
To check your bootloader go to download mode and if you have an entry of Knox warranty void then you are having the new bootloader.
If you are having the old bootloader XXUB flash http://www.mediafire.com/download/48r0rgqv25s8968/GSM_Modem_XXUEMFK_and_LTE_Modem_XXUBMH1.rar file with odin by selecting phone.

What rom are you using sir? and what kind of recovery do you have? Flash a different kernel. Or do a clean wipe

Edit: if flashing a different kernel thats not work then I think the only way to fix this would be to flash a complete official stock firmware which you can get it from here http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/2/ or if you want a pre-rooted you can follow the instruction here.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2250824 have a nice day sir and merry christmas to you.

What Firmware should I choose? The phone was bought in Germany from BASE. BASE is using the E-Plus network. But the phone is not branded nor carrier-locked. Should I choose the E-Plus Firmware?

Remember to follow any instruction before flashing. you have to flash the firmware via odin and select pda. And flash away. 2. For de-bloat it -> HERE
Alright, I have installed this pre rooted version. Wifi works again, thanks.
One annoying issue: everytime I restart the phone, I have to activate Wifi again and re-enter the password.
Edit: Another very annoying issue: I believe that screen is not being dimmed correctly. It is always to dark, even in a very bright enviroment. Plus: the LEDs of both hardware keys are always on when the screen is on.
I just want to have the normal Samsung Stock rooted.
What am I doing wrong?

If you installed the pre-rooted rom and your having a problem do a factory reset bro phone settings> accounts > backup and reset >Factory reset . No If you download the pre-rooted rom you need to flash it via odin , just like how you flash the stock rom have a nice day.
Edit: if you see a .tar inside of the file means you need to flash it via odin

If i have this problem right now,the best thing i will do is either to flash pre-rooted rom or the stock rom if there is any Fc and such . Just turn of your phone the wait a few sec and hold power+volume up in order to reach recovery and do a wipe cache and a factory reset . Hehe

Download odin 3.09 its better to use it with s4.
If your gonna flash the modem always use PHONE/CP. If your flashing pre-rooted rom from djembey or samsung stock firmware always use PDA. And if you download custom rom such as omega,phoenix,golden,etc.etc then you flash that via recovery using either CWM, philz or twrp.
Edit try emj5 wifi fix if not just do a fresh install

this was my first custom romming so needless to say I'm kinda scared, I am pretty sure I can find out how to flash to another custom rom but how would I go about getting to the default so that I can accept normal update? or is there a custom rom that is usually kept updated? (I am a sucker for having the latest version of things)
Also is there anything I should know about going from one custom rom that is rooted to another? or is it exactly like going from stock to custom?

just look for stock lollipop rom for your phone ( sammobile)/and flash with odin, just make sure to do a full wipe before flashing the stock rom
Thanks for the quick reply, will this allow me to get future updates? like hotfixes released and stuff? I saw somewhere that once you flash it does something to the kernal which makes updates possibly brick the phone.
Just factory reset the custom, then use ODIN to flash the Stock ROM
Flashing the stock ROM will allow OTA updates so long as you don't root or flash anything else custom like recovery - it needs to stay 100% stock for OTA
But you can still root, and each time an OTA arrives, grab the new ROM from sammobile dot com and use ODIN to flash it, that will update your phone, leaving everything in tact, all your data and images etc will be fine, only thing you'll need to do after updating is root the phone again

Try a UK firmware, the latest version BOE5 is in my sig link on MEGA, much faster than Sammobile

Are you sure you had the phone in Download Mode?
Volume DOWN & HOME & POWER (Then volume up when asked)
And yes, disable Reactivation lock before flashing anything or you'll end up with major problems requiring a massive mess on to fix

There is on the lower left log / options / PIT section, although clicking that says to load it into the CSC section
Try using the PIT file with your 3.09 version of ODIN first as Im not sure where 3.10.6 wants the PIT file loaded into, it's not very clear

Are you running ODIN as Admin? (Right click > Run as Administrator)
Using a native PC running Windows? All Samsung drivers installed?
It almost sounds as if your bootloader is locked, but you managed to flash custom recovery and root right?
Yea I do have custom recovery and a custom rom and had rooted it. although inside the about device section it said I was using G900F I noticed the download mode said G900I so I searched for my old box and on the box it says it is a G900I so I assume the rom I used modified the model number, could this be screwing with anything?

Looks like you need to grab the G900I ROM and PIT
I'd try with just the ROM first, hopefully ODIN saved you from bricking when it realised it was for the wrong model phone
Get the G900I ROM, stick it into ODIN like you originally tried, see how you go from there
EDIT - Now it makes sense why there was no Australian ROM for your G900F, there is for the G900I

Hello, everyone. I'm new to this site, and have come here because I've gotten a bit desperate. I have been trying to root my AT&T Galaxy S4 (Model number: Samsung-SGH-I337, Android version 4.4.4) for a long time and have been unable to. I have tried multiple programs, such as Kingo Root, Root Genius, and towelroot. Nothing worked until someone I know told me to go to TomsGuide (a website; I tried to post the link, but was unable to) and follow the steps. It seemed to work at first, because I now have SuperSu and Superuser in my apps.
However, when I open the Superuser app, a message pops up: "The Superuser binary (su) must be updated. Please choose an installation method. Recovery mode installation is recommended for HTC devices." There are two options: Cancel and Recovery Install. Nothing happens when I click Cancel; when I click Recovery Install, I receive this message: "There was an error installing Superuser. Please send a log of the error to the developer."
I have also gone into My Files on my phone and found the apk files (there was one on my SD card and one in the phone's memory). I installed both, but when I opened it, I either received the same message as above or this one "There is no SU binary installed and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem! If you just upgraded to Android 4.3, you need to manually re-root - consult the relevant forums for your device."
I am not sure what to do now and have been unable to find the answer to this problem yet. Any help would be appreciated. I am also new to this kind of stuff, so detailed explanations would be nice. Thank you in advance.

Towelroot works only with the NC1 kernel. You must flash the nc1 kernel, root with towelroot, and flash back the kernel for your system, presumably NJ4 or NJ5. If you didn't do this, then of course towelroot will not work. And it probably depends on which version of towelroot you use as well. The link above provided by @merlise will give you the download link for the correct version of towelroot, and will work if you follow it.

You are correct; I believe I have the NJ5 kernel (found it under Baseband Version; is that right?). Can you walk me through how to flash the nc1 kernel? And then how to flash back the kernel for my system? I have no idea how to do that.

Baseband is the modem. Usually when stock firmware is installed, kernel, system and baseband will all be the same, although the modem can be installed individually, but you would probably know about it since you would have had to do it yourself. So let's assume that you are on NJ5 system. When you look in about device, "Build Number" should tell you which system and kernel is installed.
Here is the link for the walk-through you need. (It's the same thread that was linked above by @merlise.
Skip step 1, of course since you are already on NJ5. After that, follow the steps in order, 2 through 6. The download links for everything you need are in-line with the relevant steps.
If you've never flashed firmware using Odin, it's not difficult. I can post a tutorial for using Odin if you need it, or you can find similar on the forum.
Edit: Since you are on NJ5 and not NJ4, go here to download the NJ5 stock kernel.

Okay, so I just tried to follow the instructions from the link that merlise had posted. I skipped step 1, did step 2, and ran into trouble on step 3. Both the nc1 Kernel and Odin downloaded to my computer just fine, but flashing it to my phone failed. It said there was no pit partrition. So I Googled that, found the pit partition for my phone, and tried to flash that. This is what Odin said:

From what you say above, you tried to flash the pit file alone, without a firmware. From what I understand, it is usually flashed in conjunction with a full firmware. It may not work when flashed by itself.
I wish you had posted the results of your first attempt to flash the NC1 kernel. I would be very surprised if you actually have a problem with the partitioning of your memory. It is almost never required to flash a pit file. There is usually some other cause for issues.
When Odin flash fails, it is very often a problem with the connection between the computer and the phone, so it is always a good idea to make some changes and try flashing again. Use another cable, use another port on the computer, especially one that is connected directly to the motherboard on a desktop pc, or even use another computer. Also, you might try a different version of Odin. If you are using v3.09 or similar, you might try v1.85 which you can download from my Download Repository (see link in my signature.)
Try again to flash the NC1 kernel, as in step 3 of the guide.
How to use stand-alone Odin3 to flash firmware:
Follow and recheck each of the following steps. Do them in order listed, as some steps are dependent on previous steps. Instructions are for Odin3 v1.85. It should work with any version of Odin, but some details, like color of items, may be different. In Odin 3.09, the PDA slot is named AP.
1.) Open Odin on the Windows Desktop.
2.) Have the USB cable plugged into USB port on the computer and into the phone.
3.) Shut the phone off.
4.) Put the phone into download mode.
5.) In Odin, you should get the yellow box under where it says ID:COM with the text 0:[COMx], and in the Message area, <ID:0/00x> Added!! where x is some number, usually 1-8.
6.) In Odin, make sure Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time are checked and all other items are not checked.
7.) Click on the PDA button. Browse to the tar file you want to install and select it so its path appears in the text edit box next to the button.
8.) Make sure the check box next to the PDA button is checked.
9.) Click the Start button.
10.) You should see the green progress bar advancing.
11.) When complete, you will get a PASS (or FAIL if unsuccessful).
Let me know if it flashes successfully. Regardless if it works or not, before you close Odin, copy out the information in the Messages section and post it back here.

I was just about to attempt flashing again, but now my computer is not recognizing my phone at all: "The last USB device you connected malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it." I tried a few different cables and two different ports. I believe it's a driver error. Also, I noticed that I've lost the ability to connect to wifi.

If the problem is in the phone, then I don't know the remedy. If you can boot into recovery, you might try performing a wipe data/factory reset.
You might try uninstalling and reinstalling the USB driver. See this thread for download. Or you might try a different PC.

It should be the stock PIT. I don't remember where I downloaded it from but it appears to be the correct one. I don't know where the problem is.
The firmware corresponding to my J500FN's CSC is Austrian (ATO), so I downloaded it from that updato site.
The reason I went to find the PIT file in the first place is because flashing stock ROM via Odin failed. It showed this code (last 2 lines):

<ID:0/004> FAIL! (Ext4)
It had failed at this point, and I've tried flashing the 6.0.1 and 5.1.1 stock image, to no avail. Perhaps you have a solution for that instead?

It should be the stock PIT. I don't remember where I downloaded it from but it appears to be the correct one. I don't know where the problem is.
The firmware corresponding to my J500FN's CSC is Austrian (ATO), so I downloaded it from that updato site.
The reason I went to find the PIT file in the first place is because flashing stock ROM via Odin failed. It showed this code (last 2 lines):
<ID:0/004> hidden.img.ext4
<ID:0/004> FAIL! (Ext4)
It had failed at this point, and I've tried flashing the 6.0.1 and 5.1.1 stock image, to no avail. Perhaps you have a solution for that instead?

Regsrding hidden.img.ext4 error, try this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2uTHilnRsWw. Credits to @pacower for sharing that video. Also try to use newer Odin version (I used 3.09 or so all the time though).

I've tried this method, but Odin shows me another error: MD5 error! binary is invalid .
And yes, I've tried removing the .md5 from the file name, but then Odin is stuck on file analysis forever. That happens on Odin v3.12. At version 3.11, it simply hangs after choosing that file. At version 3.09 (which also has the option of flashing a PIT file) it shows this:

Hey bro, found the issue. Apparently the firmware I downloaded wasn't right and that's why it never went through with booting the hidden.img.ext4. The link you provided, however, made it happen! You saved my phone. Thanks a million!

Did you try to flash it without PIT file?
Also, if you flashed TWRP before, then try to flash TWRP, then boot in TWRP recovery and wipe /system, /data, /cache and dalvik-cache. Then power off the phone, boot in download mode and try to flash again through Odin.
If you didn't flash TWRP before and you don't wanna lose warranty, then boot in stock recovery and wipe, but your internal memory will be wiped too.
I never used a PIT file when I flashed stock ROM.

I'm sorry I didn't try flashing the firmware you provided me with in the first place, thereby "making you" type more on an answer that has been answered (by my flashing the correct firmware). There is something else you might help me with, if you have the time. Why did you provide me with a link to the German firmware? I told you it had Austrian CSC. And yet the German firmware was the one that actually worked. How so? And something else. Which is the website that you sent that firmware from? You edited your post soon after you had posted the link.

Huh? I only gave you links with the YouTube video and SamFirm.
Oh wait, I think that maybe SamFirm downloaded latest available update. In SamFirm you can switch to manual mode and type there the region, PDA and CSC and you can download the firmware which you want.

I didn't use SamFirm to download the firmware file, of that I'm sure. Mostly because upon attempting, I failed. I had put SM-J500FN in model name and ATO in CSC, but SamFirm found nothing.
I think you had a link from Mediafire in your response to me and that's how I downloaded the firmware. Hell, I might be mistaken, since I searched through a ton of threads, including some at XDA, in order to find a solution. It's possible I saw the link at another user's post.
In any case, thank you very much, once again. You saved my phone from becoming a paperweight.

If yes, it's the German stock ROM I've uploaded andmentioned it in my ROM thread at installation instructions I posted it only there. It's kinda old firmware, but always worked fine for me, didn't have any issues (it's the firmware which my phone came with).
