I got a 7" Android tablet on Amazon for a killer deal (I paid $129, but now it's at like $119). Here's the link.
It's almost identical to my friends Kindle fire and was almost half the cost. Here's the specs:
1.0 ghz processor (overclocked to 1.3)
7" capacitive screen (screen response is great)
4gb mem
512mb RAM
USB OTG host compatible (this is great. Plug in you portable hard drive and watch movies, use a USB keyboard, etc. Comes with the host cable).
HDMI out
MicroSD card slot (up to 32gb)
Comes with a USB host cable, USB cable to plug it into your computer (this will even charge the tablet even though it also comes with a proprietary wall charger) and of course the proprietary wall charger.
So far I haven't had any issues with it at all. Streams netflix great, I loaded ADW launcher and a couple themes,a few games and other apps and everything works very well.
The HDMI it uses is a mini HDMI port, not micro. It has a proprietary charger. UPDATE: I plugged it onto my computer and found it will in fact charge when plugged into a power source via the mini USB port!!! . It came rooted! I installed ad free and titanium backup pro and both work without any issues (blocks ads, can freeze system apps I don't like, etc.). I also installed super user, but it doesn't appear to need it.
I've also installed AnTuTu CPU master. At first I was able to clock it to 1488mhz no problem, but for some reason now it freezes when I clock over 1296 (but is stable at 1296). I don't really care about the over clocking though and usually have it set lower to save battery.
It came with documents to go, flash 11, adobe reader, google maps, all the basic apps you'd need. It also came with super HD player, up to 2160p support for HDMI out (although I never use this so I can't really comment on it's performance. I just checked the HDMI out once using a 700mb movie file on Mobo player)
Another thing I like is how fast it boots. like 35 seconds from power on till its ready to use. MUCH faster than my XOOM. It does freeze up sometimes, usually not the whole device, just I have to kill and reload apps sometimes. Not a huge deal and for the price so well worth it.
If you're looking for a a inexpensive 7" tablet, I don't think you'll find a better deal. Hope this helps!

I am not trying to rain on your parade, but the screen resolution (WVGA 800x480) is really horrible for a 7" tablet. You could make out each individual pixel with naked eyes.
It also seems like it's based on a bargain basement Cortex A8 single-core processor. It's difficult to find any credible spec on the "BOXCHIP A10".
All things considered, why not just go with the Kindle Fire? It's got a better display (at least resolution/density-wise) and a better CPU (no name single core vs. TI OMAP 4430 dual core A8). The Fire also has a better dev support with custom ROMs.

I've watched video side by side a kindle and yes the kindle is a bit better, but nowhere near $80 better. I think the Amazon listing is a typo, looks more like 800*600 to me... Not HD, but totally watchable (you can't see the pixels while watching a movie...)
A huge plus is that I can plug in a usb drive (or my 1TB portable HD) AND a 32GB sd card on this. With a couple 32gb thumb drives (or SD cards) and my hard drive I can carry around a MASSIVE library of videos and music in my pocket. Kindle doesn't support USB host, doesn't have an SD slot (so lame), and only has 6GB of space available for user content (yes, only 6GB...). And this didn't come with the lame kindle UI.
I just checked and the price is down to $115, I've had a few cheap tablets and this is the only one I've been happy with. Due to the USB host and SD card functionality I would rather have this over a kindle any day... IMHO.

The picture shown on Amazon looks like a wide-screen format, so it can't possibly be 800x600 (4:3 aspect ratio).

If it has Honeycomb or ICS then it will support standard gamepad like Logitech, however, the pic looks like it use miniUSB so you need and adaptor. Or you can buy one of those bluetooth gamepad, the support is depends on the software.

Well I got mine 2 days ago and for the price I paid, this thing kicks ass. It does exactly what I need it to do: browse the net and play the occasional game while I'm on the toliet or in bed. My 32GB card is on the way and I'm gonna load it up with videos. Admittedly, the resolution is not the best...especially with my phone having a qHD screen lol. But it is capacitive and blows away those cheap ass Coby tablets I despise so much.
Mine also came rooted and I'm looking around the net to find more info on maybe some custom roms for it. Sure I could have bought a Kindle Fire, but this is more than enough to tide me over until those rumored $199 Tegra3 tablets roll around

yeah, you're right, I contacted the company I got it from to confirm and it's 800x480. But I still think it's an awesome tab for the money. They're out of stock on Amazon now but will have more in next week they said (I'm getting another one for my wife).

I also just noticed that while it come with a proprietary charger, when I plugged it into my computer via the mini USB that would also charge it! I plugged it into a USB wall charger and that charged it to. There really is no need for the proprietary charger except its 2000MAh and it will charge faster than via USB.
Just another reason I love this tablet ;-)

I forgot to mention that too in my rant above lol. I was surprised because those cheap ass Coby tablets I despise so much, will not charge via the miniUSB port. Great buy!
For 119$ I can get a real android tablet in a used Gtab 7. And its 2x better.
These chinese tablets rarely have a working android market, screen resolution is also poop.
Could just buy an Ainol 7" ICS Tablet for 150$

This one has the real Google market. I wouldn't want to buy used cause you'd get no warranty, this one came with a year warranty.
I've heard the Ainol doesn't support flash, that was a big requirement for me, but others may not care.

it won't sell, because its a proprietary dock, for one phone only.
needs to be a STANDARD wireless charging base (mac mini sized) with vga/sound/mic/hdmi/etc out the back, so regular peripherals can be used. large enough to charge 2-3 phones at once, is a good idea too.
dlna to dock, hdmi/vga to screen, etc
now, as far as convincing people to buy windows 8, I have no idea how.

You want a Dock with a wireless charging base, VGA/HDMI, Audio in out all coming out of the dock. designed around all phones and indeed work with multiple phones at the same time.
So we can explain audio with Bluetooth, and DNLA with wifi but how my friend, do you explain your VGA/HDMI out? how do you charge it if your don't have a inductive phone? or do you want all phones to have inductive charging wireless VGA and HDMI output as well?
the concept of a docking station for a specific phone is a tried and tested model and is routinely used on laptops and tablets, these devices are far from "universal" one can argue that there has never been a universal docking station, simply because there are far too many designs and technologies to take in to account. The beloved Apple are the worst for this, buy any ipod dock and youll find as many adaptors and connectors stuffed in to the box to "make" it compatible as there are iphone covers in cheap arse phone stores.
I think the idea of having a phone that's so powerful that can be plugged in to a tablet case, laptop case, home entertainment system is a great concept, itll never happen but if a unified connectivity model could be made up then even better, the problem with such things is space, yes you can transmit HDMI wirelessly, but its heavy on juice consumption, far heavier than what induction charging can deliver.
I see what your saying and that would be ideal but practicalities will prohibit a universal dock, a set of docks available for your specific phone however is a great idea and one id sign up to.
As the article says, it is not going to be a 'stand alone' phone, but part of a 'hub' system. So it doesn't need to have a 'standard' docking or wireless charging system...
I think it's an interesting idea. Let's see if i-Mate pull this off!!!

you know the answers to the questiions already... if the phone isn't inductive charge capable, well, it misses out. (I screwed up suggesting vga out, yes)
is the dock to be tossed out when the next phone is released, or microsoft abandons the current os, forcing hardware upgrades ?

ya, that was part of my point. the docking system is physically bound to only one phone model. a change of phones means the dock is obsolete. that's why I suggested a inductive version instead.
Re: Docks. You can do a lot with mini-displayport and micro-usb, which should fit on a superpowered phone. Or thunderbolt would work as a universal connector - thunderbolt out to a dock.
But what is more interesting to me is having a full windows OS on a phone. Windows Phone 8 still has a lot of core features missing, while Windows 8 does not have these gaps. Just add phone and messaging capability to Windows 8 and you will have an excellent OS for power users.
Hopefully there will be more of these phones when Intel finally moves Atom to 22nm later this year.

yesssss, that's what wp7/8 were supposed to do: bridge the gaps, the pc/phone in one.
but, now you have wp, surface/rt, w8 and their versions also. fragmentation, not integration.
oh, and xbox... office... very odd way of doing things.

Hi. I don't have a checkbox to turn the shutter sound off. I know my old Windows 7 phone had the option, but nothing on this one.
I'd love to turn it off because the default sound is horrible.

It works but you may need root for certain things although I don't think a mouse would work as it is a touch device.

Love it, far better than any Android tablet at the moment.

A lot of apps have been improved and look better than before but not all, although I haven't found any apps that look horrendous.

I find the battery is awesome, also a custom kernel/ROM can have a big impact on it.

I use the poetic slimline case, there have been some issues with it not fitting properly but mine is fine, not sure about docks/stands

I use the usb otg cable and a four port usb hub. Keyboard and mouse are just plug and play. Which is the case for all the android devices I've owned. I've been rooted since the moment I bought it so I'm not sure if you need root for thumb drives.

I personally love the device. I had a Asus Tf101 before and this is a far better product.

The apps are improving quite well and even the few non tablet apps that I use don't look horrible. Not sure if you can see the online play store in your location but if you can there is a tablet filter that can give you a better idea of the available apps.

For the most part I use my at home after work. I find that it can easily last me three days.
-Is there a good stand, dock, or case that's recommended?
I have the iblason black faux leather case and the brown suede bear motion case off of Amazon. I'm finding now this i prefer the iblason which is about 18.00 on amazon.

I personally recommend it, based on it`s specs, it`s still the best bang for the buck. But it also greatly depend on your needs from a tablet device.

Given the high resolution screen, yes some app do look blurry or pixelated if not optimized for tablet. For me, i can live with it, we will get more and more tablet optimized apps for sure.

Great battery life although below my expectations. It might be due to the device processing a high resolution panel.

unfortunately no stand or dock at the moment from google. but the cases do make it stand. Just get a case that suit your needs.

The stock unrooted firmware doesn't mount usb thumb drives when connected with OTG. The "Nexus Media Importer" app from the play store provides a smooth workaround for that, well worth the 3 or 4 USD I paid for it.

You may wish to consider an Asus TF700. For example, I have the integrated keyboard, an USB non-powered hub, a laser printer (hooked to the USB hub), Bluetooth speaker (powered by the hub), multiple USB hard storage devices (for moving large volumes of data such as movies between devices), a microhd 32 GB card (up to 128 GB possible), in addition to a regular SD card. Shortly I will add an USB ethernet adapter for additional speed when using it at my desk. All of this is with the stock configuration and is well integrated into the tablet experience. The TF700 may not be as fast as the Nexus 10- but I have found the speed very good with the optimal mix of apps. My impression is that the TF700 is a more versatile device if you need multiple storage/connectivity options ala a netbook and find the Android OS suitable for your needs.

When rooted, you can use the free StickMount app.
Some custom roms may mount USB sticks for you automatically, but I haven't experimented with this.
Dontvbe worried about software ... There are very inteligent developers outhere that work for this device . eventualy all the software problems will be resolved . be worried about the problematic hardware side and how to be able to return the product more faster process problems free .

I had problems with Stickmount (can't recall what now). I've been using 'USB OTG Helper' which is a great app. As for how phone apps look: it's not that most of them look bad; they're just not optimized to take advantage of the extra screen real estate. But I'm finding more and more of my favorite apps have a separate tablet version, or install a tablet-optimized one if a tablet is detected.
I also recommend the Moko Slim-Fit leather case (Amazon). Very well made.

For example, I have the integrated keyboard, an USB non-powered hub, a laser printer (hooked to the USB hub), Bluetooth speaker (powered by the hub), multiple USB hard storage devices (for moving large volumes of data such as movies between devices), a microhd 32 GB card (up to 128 GB possible), in addition to a regular SD card. Shortly I will add an USB ethernet adapter for additional speed when using it at my desk. All of this is with the stock configuration and is well integrated into the tablet experience. The TF700 may not be as fast as the Nexus 10- but I have found the speed very good with the optimal mix of apps. My impression is that the TF700 is a more versatile device if you need multiple storage/connectivity options ala a netbook and find the Android OS suitable for your needs.

The reason why I'm not considering the transformer is because it isn't running stock Android. And I'm not sure how the dev community is for it. Plus it's almost a year old and a new ones coming out soon, I don't know if I can wait.

The Asus Transformer series is comparatively minimalist with regards to Android customization versus other brands- though bloatware is an issue. There is quite a bit of 3rd party developer support. TF Android stock and custom updates have been prompt- though I am encouraged that Asus was cautious with 4.2. Of course, newer models will offer better performance- and where the need is not critical- it might be better to wait. Again, the hybrid market seems to be in rapid transition and the Transformer series is hardly the only option- for example, Windows 8 hybrids from Asus, Lenovo and others. I only made the suggestion because you focused on expandability- not a core strength of the Nexus 10. But the Nexus 10 has a lot of other strengths- though it to will probably have a faster replacement or hardware refresh soon...

Sorry for re-opening an old thread, but it seemed relevant to my situation.
Hi guys, finally decided to take the plunge and shell out for a Nexus 10. This will be my first tablet purchase, so naturally I want it to go as smoothly as possible.
Although a lot of what I've read from purchasers here seem to suggest it's anything but a smooth process with Google. I've terrified myself half to death with some of the stories here. I should probably also mention that I've never had to RMA any device before, but I'm almost fully committed to the fact that I'll have to with this, after all I've read about it.
So. What are the main problems are that people have experienced, which required RMAs and are they still present in the newer batches, seeing as it's almost 6mths old now?
I've looked around these forums for the past half week and found what I believe to be a fairly conclusive list and their possible resolutions. Is there anything else beyond this list I should be watching out for?
RMA for sure
- battery issues - less than 6hrs
- faulty usb/hdmi socket
- constant wifi drop
- speakers buzz
- no sound via hdmi
- crap stuck under screen
- loose to touch/clicky camera lens
- light bleeding (only RMA if excessive)
SOFTWARE UPDATE
- constant restarts with stock rom
BEARABLE WITH CASE
- creaky back cover
Also, is it easier to return to Google or Samsung should I need to RMA?

Damn I'm lucky. Not one problem with my nexus 7 well the wife's now that I went and got a 10. And not a problem with my 10. And I picked my 10 up from a guy on craigslist for 375 for a 32gb.

Well mine just arrived 20 minutes ago. So far none of the issues I've seen around these forums. No creaky back. No creaky camera lens. No crap under the screen. It's on charge at the moment, so I can't check the other things like light bleed etc.
Oh and for reference it's an R32D model if that helps anyone. I'm in the UK too, for anyone questioning if UK is getting new or old stock.

The USB hub mod looks very doable, petergunn posted some videos in that thread which show it step by step and you can pick up the hub (or one very like it) on eBay for less than £2. I ordered one a few days ago to try it myself.
The internal USB mod is a different matter, the soldering points involved look very small. I bought the 64GB model, so coupled with a 64GB SDXC I'm not going to be running low on space any time soon unless I really load the thing up with movies or games.
I have to say I'm pretty impressed with the device though. Bay trails are the first Atom chips Intel will be using the Pentium brand for (for laptop/desktop models) and you can see why. Performance-wise it feels like a huge jump from cedar/clover trail. I've installed a bunch of games on it (inc. Blood Bowl and SC2:Heart of the Swarm) and it plays them well, even on around medium settings. Windows 8.1 is a different matter though, I've already hit several annoyances.
I ended up getting a more expensive but similar hub. The cheap ones seem to be sold out everywhere unless they are shipping from China and I didn't feel like waiting for weeks.
I picked my Dell up as an open box at Micro Center for $139. I don't even know why it was so cheap. It looked like it was never out of the box. I couldn't be happier with the tablet especially for the price. Not as elegant a device as my RT but so much more useful.

If your soldering skills are as bad as mine, that was probably a good idea. Mine arrived today, and the 'mini' ones on eBay from Hong Kong are very small inside, with much smaller pads than the ones successfully modified by the guys over on tablet PC review. I attempted the mod today but something must have gone wrong as all I got was "unrecognised device" when plugging it in. In the end I gave up on that and just went for the simpler option (see attachment) and made an adapter from some spare bits and pieces.
It's worth noting that there are a few caveats though, these are mentioned on the thread but quite a few pages in. Firstly, it will only trickle charge while connected to another device, not fast charge (you can verify this by checking in the Dell diagnostics, accessible by holding volume up and the power button when switching on). In practice, this means the battery level should remain around the same if the tablet is on. I think this explains why there is no official docking station for the 8 Pro from Dell as it wouldn't be practical to charge it like this for everyday use. Secondly, you're going to need more power than the Dell 10 watt charger can provide if you want to charge the tablet and run power hungry devices like external hard drives - if I connect my external Western Digital drive to my adapter, it works but the tablet stops charging entirely. A solution is to use a powered hub (or if you're doing the hub mod, attach a second charger to the hub's power connector).
I'm really jealous of the prices the 8 Pro seems to be going for in the US, it's a steal as those. In the UK, I got my 64GB model for £279 which is around $458 USD. That's still cheaper than the official Dell UK price, believe it or not!

Forget what I wrote about trickle charging, it turns out this was due to insufficient wire thickness. Something to watch out for when modifying your hub though. My tablet is now properly charging when connected to my external hard drive, no powered hub needed
Well, we could actually make a usb 3.0 hub out of the LTE socket.... Took pics of the shields off, I was thinking the notched corner was an sdcard slot. NOPE!
Not USB related, but another mod of sorts (firmware) has been mentioned over on tablet PC review. V3D says it's possible to downgrade to BIOS A03 (with the advanced eMMC/SD speed settings) but keep A04's embedded controller update that fixed the low charge problem:

I don't recommend using DDR50 on the MicroSD card slot, From my benchmark testing I found it had no effect on the speed & others have reported the MicroSD card to becomes unstable, randomly dismounting at times.

I have a dilemma. I have a pretty strong PC, which I use for work and gaming. I also have an e-book reader - for reading long texts.
Until now, it seemed to me that the combination of strong PC and phablet is a good solution. However, a problem arose:
a) I don't have a mobile device to take notes at the university.
b) From time to time I have to come forward with a presentation (powerpoint or prezi) and I have to borrow equipment or use a shared one.
For these reasons I decided to buy a hybrid tablet (because they are now on top) with Windows 8. It should provide comfortable keyboard and a long time battery life (sometimes I have to spend a few hours at the university, not everywhere I have access to electricity). It turns out that this mobile "typewriter" would cost me about 500 euros/$ or more.
500 euros for the possibility of note taking and occasional viewing a presentation - expensive, right?
I'm going to buy a Note 4... and now a question for you. Have you tried to use the phone (or earlier versions / or other models) in the situations I mentioned?
I think some mhl adapter -> VGA + cover and convenient bt keyboard (USB) should be sufficient to accommodate Note 4 to these tasks. It seems that the price of such additives would not be too high - especially when it compares to laptop's price.
I will be very grateful to you for any advice and suggestions.

I guess this is not the answer you wish to read, but...
I'd stick with a regular notebook.
It's an all-in-one solution, it's just one single device to carry.
You'll also have full MS software support to make sure your PowerPoint presentations will work the way intended. All regular Windows software will work, you don't need to struggle with lots of peripheral devices and their various incompatibilities.
Sure there are some makeshift Android solutions for working with Office documents.
But it's nothing more than makeshift. Just a few weeks ago I had to use exactly that combination because my main PC system broke down over New Year, all shops closed.
It's been a HORROR. You'll find yourself swearing and shouting if you try to replace a working Windows system with Android substitutes.
I use several PCs, a small Eee PC for rooting purposes, a Sony Z2 Tablet, a Note 4 and more.
I do blogging on vacations. Guess what I use ? Not the Note. It's too small, I just don't wish to schlepp around masses of peripheral devices. Period.
I'll take the Note as a general purpose device with me, especially for taking photos as it's camera is just great.
But for blogging, I use the 10.1 inch Sony Tablet plus an external Bluetooth keyboard - you just cannot write longer text using the screen keyboard if you're not into Sado/Maso stuff. The tablet is still too small, but a working compromise because I am travelling with just a single backpack for utmost flexibility.
I tried 7 inch tablets, too small. I tried smartphones, far too small. 10 inches are tolerable. But not more.
A combination of an Android tablet and an external keyboard is a makeshift solution, something you can use in an emergency or for a very limited time.
But for your purposes, I would always prefer a "real" solution without messing around with masses of external peripherals which will never work as you wished they would.

i strongly recommend you to buy a Windows 8.1 hybrid tablet
cause note 4 has samll screen for creating and writing .

like many scientific apps and they are not available in android
how can you imagine of creating an presentation file (like microsoft power point or similars ) on note 4 ?!

i recommend Surface pro 64Gb for your case ... yes its expensive but it worth it with its power and beauty

in most cases I would use Note 4 with a external keyboard (eg. Logitech K400) just for notes taking. There is a lot of protective covers that allows to set the device in landscape mode + Logitech K400 + Note's S-pen (instead of mouse) and I think it would be good solution for classes. Do I really need a tablet pc for notes?
In terms of presentation - generally I do it on my PC. I just wanted to SHOW them via projector on Note 4. On the market you could find mhl adapters (to VGA - used by lot of projectors).
My main device is PC, I just can't take it anywhere because of size.

with NOTE 4 you CANT do note taking even with keyboard , for 1 or 2 days yes you will do that but you will leave that soon cause of many problems....
and dont forget about very fast battery drainage during peresentation with note 4 + mhl + mhl to vga converter
note 4 battery cant handle that ...
and by the way the choice is yours

I have a surface pro 3 i use as a desktop. i also have some of the same problems you do. When i need to present i use my note 4 with a netgear PTV3000 adapter. I keep the surface pro 3 connected to my monitor (2560x1600 ZR30W). When i want to present i use a VNC viewer on the note 4 to connect to my surface. The note 4 is the exact same resolution so its just like presenting with a bluetooth mouse connected to the surface. I can run full powerpoint and office and switch back to the note 4 for handwriting notes.
I think it depends on your exact needs. I'm still waiting for my Note 4 to arrive, but I currently use my Note 3 with a bluetooth keyboard and mouse, and an MHL to HDMI adapter. Most new projectors have HDMI inputs, so as long as you're using one of those you should be fine. If you actually need to use VGA, that's a bit tougher.
I replaced my laptop with an Acer Iconia 10" tablet, and then I replaced that tablet with a Note 2, then Note 3, and soon Note 4. With the right accessories, and the right setup, it replaces a laptop pretty well on the go. That said, I still have a desktop at home and at my office, but I don't need to take those anywhere.
Just a quick note on the suggested Microsoft Surface Pro: Better stay away from it.
I had one (a Surface Pro 3) for testing purposes on my desk last week. It's an all-weak PC except the CPU.
1) More than 10 (TEN !) severe display defects (light bleeding).
2) Touchscreen does not recognize fast typing with your fingertips (I made a video if you like to see).
3) One (ONE !!!) single USB port, which I regard as a bad joke as you need additional hardware for connecting a usable mouse and keyboard (the Type Cover is far away from being usable).
4) NO SIM card slot; so a "mobile device" which cannot be used in a mobile way. Next bad joke with a device worth (or NOT worth) 1000 Euros.
I liked the Surface Pro 3 till I got my hands on it, even considered buying one, got misled by that typical "proud owners".
After checking, nothing of my positive attitude towards that piece of Microsoft failware remained. :/
You still could use old smart dock designed for Note 2. It has 3 usb ports (keyboard, mouse, external hd and more), hdmi out and audio out. In order to work it needs to be connected to power source. I believe that ms office for android is available if you subscribe to office 360.

Amazing screen with no light bleeding, touchscreen is decent (with pen!), type cover is almost like a regular keyboard and it has a dock for more USB ports. SIM card slot is unnecessary - it will do wifi and connect to your note 4 hotspot.

So here's the next task for you: Take your highly capable Surface, boot it up. While booting, there's a boot screen: All black, with the term "Surface" big and white in the middle.
Take a photo of this boot screen, NO FLASH, place a lighter or a matchbox on the screen right next to the "Surface" logo. This is to make sure you do a real photo instead of fetching a perfect picture from the net. And it must be the boot screen, because brightness is high at that time, so you don't get the idea of disguising the light bleed with a low brightness setting.
Post it.
Then we well see if your "amazing screen with NO LIGHT BLEEDING" is for real.
If you don't post that photo, we all know there's something wrong with your statement.

It is not. It's a bad, expensive thing made of wrong materials. It's outside is made of a kind of cloth, wobbly, getting extremely dirty in no time. And it's just a cover, it does not protect the sensitive lower side of the tablet.
And there's no alternatives. Eat Microsoft or die.

I wouldn't use the Note 4 for anything barring watching youtube lol. It's far too slow. I wouldn't take notes on it or write out anything more than a text or short email.
As for Surface tablets, they're awesome. Maybe not laptop level, but pretty close. Light bleed is a none issue, zero. I have seen top of the range phones, tv's monitors all with light bleed. It's overrated.
I'm sure it's possible if you can get a smart dock (and Samsung should totally release an updated one with MHL 3.0), but the screen size is a bit cramped for taking college/university course notes. You'd probably be scrolling around in OneNote or any other app of your choice all the time.
While I'm not sure if the European eBay prices are anywhere near as good as they are here in the States, you should be able to get an older Tablet PC like an HP 2730p/2740p or Fujitsu T5010/T900 for a pretty low price and have the convenience of both a physical keyboard and on-screen pen input for note-taking. They're not even US$300 here on most listings!
