[Q] after new baseband no calls - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey friends,
I really looked everything up, but I could not find anything what helped me with my problem.
I have a Galaxy S4 (GT-i9505) and I wanted to update my modem from MKE to ML6. Because I had some issues with updating it (there still was the MKE at my "Status" after updating to ML6), I tried to double-overwrite it (someone wrote at a forum, that that will solbe the overwriting method). So, I started Odin 3.09 and deleted the "Auto Reboot" option. After the first flashing, I took out the battery and replaced it again. Then I did a secound modem flashing. The result was: There was still the MKE modem AND I cannot call anyone. Everytime I try to call someone and I click the call button, my Galaxy seems to crash. The screen is getting black and I have to shut it down by holding the power button for several secounds. Of course, I already tried out other modems (like to MKE modem again and MJ8), but the problem still exists.
Could anybody please help me!
Thanks,
Robert

Have you tried changing rom + modem? you cannot just randomly try modems with a certain rom as some will work others not.

Yes, I tried both the Google Roms 4.4 and 4.3, as well as several other custom roms.

it seems that your doing in a wrong way mate Try this , Turn OFF your Phone Manually (Wait about 5 sec) Now press and hold Power+VolumeDown in order to reach Download mode. Open odin select PHONE/CP (Find the modem you download) Connect the cables (check to see if it shows added on top/or should be a blue?Notsure or wait atleast 10 sec) then click start ,once done , remove the cable. and after done rebooting go to you phone setting>More>Device info and check if your baseband version change. have a nice day.

Thanks, but that is what I have done at least ten times. I tried Odin3.04 and Odin3.09. I tried MKE, ML6, MJ8. I tried Google Roms 4.4 and 4.3, as well as other custom roms. That's weird!

I have never had any luck with 3.09 i always stick to 3.07, where are you getting your modems rom?

Which tutorial do you mean?
btw: sending a sms works, as well as receiving....but no incoming or outgoing calls

Had the same thing yesterday, tried all sorts of modems, with no avail.
Ended up flashing a stock rooted Rom (MGA), flashing a custom recovery and restored a Nandroid. Forgot that flashing a complete stock Rom usually also wipes the internal SD so that was a bit of a hassle.
Now, running a new Rom again, with Wifi, sound and being able to make/receive calls again. Easiest fix also: flash a (compatible) stock Rom :good:

Thank you mate. I also found (5 sec before I read your post) this post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46969768&postcount=2
So, everything works now. The short version for other guys with the problems is:
- flash stock rom via Odin (PDA)
- you can find the stock rom for your country at sammobile.com
- also use the "pit-file" of the linked post (but I don't know, what the pit-file is changing?!)
optional:
- re-root your device again, because now it is not rooted
- new custom rom
Thanks for every help!!!
Robert

Try flashing ML6 Firmware and ML6 Modem (and Wi-Fi fix if needed), had the same issue but after doing so it's fixed.
Occured 1 time again, did a cache wipe didn't occur in 2days now.

Except flashing the Wifi Fix was the thing I did to ruin it all. Don't flash a "new" Wifi fix using an old bootloader. You will lose sound/being able to make calls. It's the thing that messed it all up over here.

I was already on the new bootloader.I've flashed Original FW, Modem + Wi-Fi fix and it fixed my phone. (Possibly also PIT but can't remember)
It can be that our problems were different but produced the same problem.. I'm not a dev nor do I understand everything about Android.
I can be wrong, but that's how I fixed my phone. Just trying to help

[Q] Wi-Fi won't turn on?

Hi guys, I'm on an i9505 with stock ROM and everything. I had it rooted before and everything was perfect, but then I updated to 4.3, so I had to re-root. When I re-rooted, everything was still there - I just had to re-install Xposed. However, my Wi-Fi is not working anymore. Every time I click on the Wi-Fi to toggle it on, it flashes green, then turns itself off again.
What is the problem here? My build number is JSS15J.I9505XXUEMKF and my baseband versionis I9505XXUEMJ7. I rooted using CF Auto-root for I9505.

Thanks, I just tried it, but it didn't seem to do anything. Still turning itself off the second I turn it on.
Is it perhaps because my baseband version is not the same as my build number? I don't know much about the details and intricacies of how this stuff works, I only know the basics, but that's an idea that came up.
Or maybe I need the Wifi fix for UEMKF (my build number) rather than UEMJ7 (My baseband version)?
I'm not sure. But just some ideas.

Download and Extract ,then Power Off your device completely and wait a few sec and Press and hold Power+Volume down in order to reach download mode and flash it via odin, and go to settings and check your baseband if the flash are okey.
**If you are having the new bootloader XXUD flash http://www.mediafire.com/download/zriv6i5c01lqns6/GSM_Modem_XXUEMFK_and_LTE_Modem_XXUMFK.rar file with odin by selecting phone.

the wifi problem doesn't accour cuz you root your phone it happened to my me and i was not rooted and nor flashed anything. you wake up and boom wifi won't turn on. and i use my mobile data cuz i can not turn on my wifi anymore. some say it's a hardware issue. some say it is a firmware issue. i don't know. i can't solve the problem. even i pay a technician to repair the phone buy they couldnt eighter. so i feel dumb when someone says this worked for me or that solved the issue. i did everything and i have not much money to buy a new one

No Sound, Tried Multiple Fixes i9505

I've got a Samsung Galaxy S4 i9505 Australian Model. The Snapdragon one.
I initially had Omega V10, I upgraded to V18 and the sound turned itself on and off, but then it started rebooting randomly and sound stopped all together. I upgraded to V19 with the same issue of no sound after the first call is made. I re-installed V19, V18 & 10 a few times. I flashed the appropriate modem for my old boot-loader several times on each rom and done clean installs as well.
I then moved to the Pheonix ROM, Installed exactly as the instructions stated. I then installed the modem as per instructions as I was having issues with the GSM/LTE then after the first call sound stopped working all together. I flashed ROM again and again, flashed the modem again, flashed a Wi-Fi Fix modem, flashed the kernel a couple of times and sound still doesn't work. It's every time after the first call is made, it just disappears.
I then decided to do a stock recovery in Odin. I installed official stock firmware XXUBMG4. Still no sound, I was getting the sound on boot but now it's gone all together.
What's my next step here? I'm almost certain I didn't flash an incorrect modem file but maybe I did........Should I try installing official 4.3? Is this something to do with installing a modem that's higher than what I should have installed and now I can't go back but only forward eg: 4.3?
I've lost root now as I flashed the official stock firmware via Odin, I'm happy to do whatever it takes to get the sound working. I'm not fussed at all about warranty.

Before you flash the file your downloading now would you mind Downloading and extract this file (You should see GSM_Modem_XXUEMFK_and_LTE_Modem_XXUBMH1.ta r)then flash the http://www.mediafire.com/download/48r0rgqv25s8968/GSM_Modem_XXUEMFK_and_LTE_Modem_XXUBMH1.rar file with odin by selecting phone. I want you to turn off your phone manually and wait a few sec and Press and hold Power+ Volume down Until you reach Download mode. Now open odin and select PHONE/CP and flash away. Have a nice day.

I just flashed this but it didn't fix the sound, as soon as it loaded I had an error coming up in the notification bar asking me to reboot as something was detected, something along those lines. It's the first time I've seen that error come up...is that something to do with Knox?
I'll flash the file the firmware I'm downloading now in 10 mins then see what happens. Or should I flash the firmware then flash this modem after?

Okey Im guessing you have the new bootloader since you said "knox" try to download and extract this and flash the http://www.mediafire.com/download/hdzf6fbobotxi61/GSM_Modem_XXUEML4_and_LTE_Modem_XXUML4.rar file with odin by selecting phone. This is a fix only but if the problem still persist feel free to flash the file that other guy gave you. im only giving you this fix just because alot of people had this problem that got fixed.Go to Settings and make sure that modems flashed ok

Ok no worries. I've already flashed the other firmware that the other person gave me. I'm now flashing this modem as the sound didn't work still. I didn't have Knox until I downloaded the firmware the other person suggested to download. I don't care about voiding Knox as I don't need it or use it.
I'll see what happens when I flash this modem. Thanks!
Ok, so far I've flashed the Official Stock Firmware XXUBMG4. I then flashed the GSM_Modem_XXUEMFK_and_LTE_Modem_XXUBMH1.tar. I then flashed the OPS 4.3 Firmware with Knox, I then flashed the XXUML4 Modem. None of this has fixed the sound, I'm not also getting random reboots every 30 secs or so.
So frustrating!! Why so complicated :S :S

If you just got a new bootloader aka Knox warranty Void that's okey , flashing any modem wont void your warranty . But if you flash a custom rom/Root then its over.If your knox got void means no more warranty for your device. Have a nice day.

Yeah still not working. I've tried different versions of Odin and run them as administrator in windows. I've tried 2 USB Cables also, Is it something to do with the PIT file? I was reading something about it from here:

If u still having MK9 firmware installed in your phone:
Download and unrar this FILE
Use Odin
Untick Autoreboot
Flash modem (the file u downloaded in step one (.tar))
Put off ur battery and put in again
Reboot into Download Mode (Vol Down + Home button combi)
Flash Modem once more
Put off ur battery and put in again
Once done, unplug then reboot device manually.
If this doesn't work, try repeating the flash process again while rebooting manually and with auto-reboot option turned off.
I have the same problem.I flashed MFK modem over MK9 and I have no sound and I cant even make a call !!! I tried to reflash rom and also make a full wipe but nothing helped.PLease help

[Q] HELP - settings force close and no wifi

Someone must know the answer to these 2 questions, I've been searching for days and keep getting little issues, keep resolving them but then run into new issues.
My last 2 problems (I hope) are as follows.
1)
No wifi - here's the details of my modems etc:
AP: I9505XXUFNA5
CP: I9505XXUEMJ5
CSC: I9505OXAFNA5
I'm running WanamLite 2.0 (4.4.2 )
2)
When i go to 'Settings >> More >> Security' it FC's and says Unfortunately, Settings has stopped.
How do I fix these issues??
Thanks
wife fix
You can fix the wifi issue by updating your phone modem to NA5. Unfortunately I'm also stuck on that settings problem. Still haven't found a solution for that yet.

Suggest you flash original stock ROM, root, install recovery and then wipe cache/dalvik /data/system - then flash what ever ROM you like and start again. Careful what stock you choose unless you don't mind/already have new boot loader.
Probably not what you wanted to hear but if you have been stuck with these issues for days it may be the easiest quickest way to resolve
No need to boot up stock ROM, you can simply go straight back into down load mode and flash cf auto root/recovery then boot into recovery.

Hey OP / kasperwo - did this work?? I'm having the same issues. Repulsa helped me before (thanks again) but then I went and flashed a different rom and the same problem came back. i think there was an underlying issue that basically was "covered by a bandaid" and which reappeared after flashing a new rom (CM11 i think)
so after all this i downloaded the stock german 4.4.2 leak, wifi stopped working, lost root access.
Then was able to flash Philz Touch recovery, re rooted using that, then flashed a different rom (wanamLite) and still no wifi etc
Last night it was reading:

Its all the same now except

Suggest you go to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192025 and read and learn about modems, I suspect you may find the answers there.
What happens when you flash official 4.3 firmware?
You may be well to backup your SD card, then flash official firmware, before rooting go to stock recovery and wipe data from there. This will leave your phone brand new with only stock files on there, it will format EVERYTHING!
May be worth a go

hmm - from what I have read on the thread about modems I sent you the link to (have you read it yet?) this is to do with having new modem on old bootloader - it breaks sound and/or wifi.
You need to get the right modem for your bootloader - 4.3 I think, but check the thread

When you put your phone into download mode do you see red and yellow writing in the top left hand corner - if so you have new bout loader, if not old - that should help you work out which modem you need.
What happened when you flashed official 4.3 through Odin and wipe?
Jimsilver73 said:
hmm - from what I have read on the thread about modems I sent you the link to (have you read it yet?) this is to do with having new modem on old bootloader - it breaks sound and/or wifi.
You need to get the right modem for your bootloader - 4.3 I think, but check the thread

Thanks for the responses dude, I've done SO MUCH reading but it seems everyone else is fixing it but when I try their methods it just doesnt work for me...
I didnt end up flashing the 4.3 - it got to 98% downloaded and then failed so I have to restart the DL and try again

OK - so you have no red and yellow small writing when you boot up that says something along the lines of non seandroid kernel?
EDIT: so it seems you are on old bootloader - if you have no knox references - which means that if you have flashed xxufna1 with non HLOS modem that would break stuff - like I said before, I think you really need to flash official 4.3 (which will give you the right modems) - test and see if it all works and then go from there
When you want to update modem then just update gsm modem - I use this one XXUFNB8

Yeah no SEandroid entry. It's red and grey writing from memory. I've finally been able to complete the download, will try flashing now.

ITS W O R K I N G
FINALLY
That only took a whole frggen month.
Thanks heaps for the ideas man I really appreciate it.
After flashing that 4.3 XXUEMK9_I9505H3GEMJ2_H3G i noticed sound was working, then I flashed PhilzTouch recovery through Odin, flashed
GSM_Modem_XXUEMJ9_and_LTE_Modem_XXUBMH1.tar
After that I did a ROM wipe in PhilzTouch and flashed Omega v16, booted up and YES FINALLY I have wifi, sound and everything is working...
BUT now im back in square 1 really, i originally wanted to flash something different because the battery life on Omega v16 isnt that great on my phone for whatever reason...
But hey at least I can use it now.

Glad you are all sorted - if you are looking for good battery life and performance (the holy grail lol) maybe try my set up as in the links in my signature. I would recommend not flashing modem to start with as what you have works for you now. I can whole heatedly recommend slim + alucard, I get 5 hours screen on time over 24 hours use with fantastic performance oh, and a load of awesome features with slim too

[Q] WiFi not working after update via Kies from 4.3. to 4.4.2

Hi there,
i have a rooted S4 i9505 with cwm installed.
yesterday i did an update from stock rom 4.3 to 4.4.2 (I9505XXUEMKE) via KIES.
the problem now....I cant turn on the wifi anymore. whenever i try to use the on/off switch for the wifi it instandly switches back to off.
is anyone else experiencing the same problem? has someone already a solution for that, before i will do a factory reset.

hmm - shouldn't really be a problem if you flashed stock, but broken wifi is a symptom reported when flashing old modem on new bootloader, if you have new stock sammy 4.4 then you will surely have new bootloader (check though by putting your phone into download mode and then check for KNOX references - if you got them you got new bootloader, if no then you are on the old one)
Click on the link in my sig for modem - that will take you to a thread that has all the newest modems - have a look through the most recent last 3-4 pages and you will find packages for modems for new bootloader, flash one of these and see what happens - BTW you need to flash in odin with 'reboot' unchecked, then when its finished power off your phone manually then put back into download mode and flash again, then repeat the procedure but this time tick 'reboot' and that should be done. BTW - the tar file goes into 'phone' not csc. You may need to unzip the modem package to get the tar file.
Let us know how you got on

you are on the new bootloader so you can flash the complete package - it has everything in it all in one package! - you won't brick your phone even if you flash the wrong modem, that is unless you did some thing real dumb like flash i9500 modem and even then I think its recoverable not that I suggest you try!!
depends where you are in the world - I used NB8 and it worked well for me in the UK - I'm on NB9 now and that seems nice also.
so to be clear flash this:
Combined package
For NewBootloader
GSM_Modem_XXUFNB8_and_LTE_Modem_XXUFNB8

hey guys, thank you!!!
the Wi-Fi is working again.
Nonetheless i still have one problem remaining, which i thought it would have been fixed as well.
but, when GPS is turned on, it tries to find the GPS position and the icon on the status bar continues appearing and disappearing permanently (every half of a second).
Beside the fact that it is really annoying having this icon flashing all the time it also causes the display to freeze.
Especially when scrolling from top to the bottom to open the notification area.
It sometimes also lets the system crush completely.
any idea what this could be?
thanks for your effort so far.

hmmm......... thats not right!
Suggest you find a stock sammy ROM and flash anew in odin - then root using cf root, then flash recovery - (TWRP is very good :good then go into recovery and wipe cache, dalvik, system and data - reboot and see what happens on nice new shiny sammy stock - if all is good pick the ROM/kernel you want (if you want) and go back to odin to reflash modem.
The only other thing I can think is that you have an app that is messing with gps?? Do the above though and you should be golden :good:
EDIT: don't wipe system unless you planning flashing a different ROM through recovery!

Hi, right way to flash the stock Samsung package, but after flashing a custom recovery, do not wipe system. There's no ROM after that so phone will not boot. And the newest modem is integrated in the stock package, so no need to flash it again.
And another advice: NEVER use Kies to update your phone. It has bricked 3 of mines.:cyclops:

Oops, well spotted! Yes, don't wipe system unless you have another ROM to flash through recovery. 3 phones bricked from kies huh? I never used it SVD don't think I ever will lol. Good old Sammy stock stuff, tbh that's why I steer well clear of anything stock Sammy unless absolutely necessary and last resort - I look at the farce they have made by forcing us to accept Knox pox!

my thought was to go into recovery mode and wipe everything and start from beginning in order to exclude that it could depends on some wrong settings or any software already installed....
I updated to 4.4.2 using Mobile Odin and my wifi was borked too.
I did notice after the update that there was a mismatch between my Baseband version (still the old 4.3 XXUEMKE) and the Build number XXUFNB8, and I recall seeing some message during the flashing process that security had blocked the kernel update and Triangle Away might help solve it.
I therefore ran Triangle Away to reset my flash counter, and then used Mobile Odin to have a second go at flashing just the Kernel, Recovery and Modem parts.
This was successful and I now have matching Baseband and Build, both XXUFNB8.
And my wifi now works again...
ok.. after making a factory reset wifi and gps are working fine again.
guess there was some missconfigured third party app...
but now, with a fresh system i do not understand why i am not able to assign a PIN for my lockscreen...
everything is greyed out except PIN and Password.
but even though setting up a PIN, the screen lock is always set to use Swipe......
damn, i shouldnt have updated to 4.4.2.... until now.. only problems with this new build....

[Q] How to fix I9505; no sound, no mic, phone app not responding

Summary: my I9505 mic, earpiece and speaker don't seem to work and cause fc/not responding on functions that use them (phone), what should I do to resolve? (I have flashed a bunch of ROMs, and a couple modems...).
Detail:
Ok, so firstly I must apologise for not recalling the somewhat random sequence of events which has brought me to this juncture... I was fiddling around with a few different ROMs and when I noticed the problem I sort of frantically tried flashing things to fix it (yes, I'm aware this is a very sensible approach )
I've flashed a few different ROMs and at some point flashed a new modem.
I noticed yesterday that I was not getting any sounds out of my phone, noticed when using the volume buttons, no beep; further investigation revealed the speaker, earpiece and microphone seem to have decided to take an indefinite nap...
Any suggestions on how to proceed with waking them up?!
There is a message in the logcat:
getDeviceForStrategy() speaker device not found
Though not sure if this helps at all.
Making/receiving phonecalls the screen goes black and either rings out to voicemail before I can answer, then displays not responding wait/close error or the other person answers and neither side can hear then same not responding error.
I've not changed the bootloader (as far as I'm aware...).
Wifi/mobile internet work fine.
Tried flashing an old modem, factory resetting, reflashing a ROM (currently CM10.2) but no dice... since I'm a bit lost I figured stop fiddling and ask for help
Current baseband: I9505ZHUAME3
Current bootloader: I9505ZHUBMF4
Any suggestions on how to proceed to un-screw my phone would be greatly appreciated. :good:

Flashing a wrong LTE/Wifi fix will loose your sound . in Old bootloader you can't flash any newer LTE modem than UBMH1.and for the New bootloader you can flash all the new LTE modems, including MKF etc.. So boot your phone into download mode and check if you have an entry of knox warranty void then you have newbootloader. and make sure you manually turn off your phone and wait atleast 10 sec and boot your phone into download mode and flash . (Because sometimes flashing a modem/lte doesnt work and need to do it twice.
Use Odin
Untick Autoreboot
Flash modem
Reboot once again into Download Mode using (Power+Voldown)
Flash Modem once more
Once done, unplug then reboot device manually.
If this doesn't work, try repeating the flash process again while rebooting manually and with auto-reboot option turned off.

Im still in oldbootloader and i just download and flash a custom rom 4.4.2 via recovery .. and incase something wrong with my phone in a future . iE Hardware related.etc theni can just flash a 4.2.2 and send it for repair for free... and about newbootloader , flashing any custom rom/rooting will triggered your knox , so feel free to flash the latest stock 4.4.2 kitkat if you dont care about your Warranty. But like i said you can still flash a 4.4.2 custom rom without flashing a newbootloader (Never flash a newbootloader , Make sure to ask first before flashing anything) Have a nice day.
Edited: @mrlizard123 Never flash a latest Wifi fix so you wont get this problem again. only flash a GSM MODEM. if your flashing a custom 4.4.2 rom then you need to flash a latest GSM MODEM base from your country. in order to fix dropping signal issue when the phone went to sleep.
