The correct procedure to install CM - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I tried to update my Defy+ MB526 at a newer version of Android (Jelly Bean or more... now it's running with the factory 2.3.6 ) but I have a problem with the installation of CM.
1) I rooted my device with Framaroot "Super SU" and checked wit "Root checker" and it is ok.
2) Then I stored in the SD the CM file.zip (before the 10.2 and after the 11) and the Gapps.zip.
3) I installed the SndinitDefy_2.3.apk
4) I ran the recovery mode, wiped factory/data, wiped cache partition, wiped Dalvik cache
5) Then install zip from SD card, but the file "cm-11-20131229-nightly-mb526.zip" and also the "cm-10.2-20131020-nightly-mb526.zip" aborted the installation with "error status (0)".
I dont' know why.
Please tell me if the procedure I've done is correct. Otherwise write me the correct steps. Thank you. :good:
Ps: system version: 45.0.2310.mb526.retail.en.de
build n°: 4.5.1-134_dfp-231

Flash this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48501247, then reboot and go to recovery again. Then flash CM.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk

Thank you Hotdog.
I tried with flash the Sndinit and after, by the custom recovery, I've flashed the Twrp. After I've started the Twrp recovery and flashed the CM11. It seemed ok but when I rebooted the device to install the Gapps, it has gone in infinity loop.
After that, i made a mistake because i did a completely reset of the device (the total wipe) and after I've reeboted the Defy and it bricked!!!
But with the guide in this forum I un-bricked it (It isn't difficult, it's easy) and then I tried, by the same previous way, to install the CM10.
With the CM10 it works awesome (4.1.2) and the gapps didn't create any problem!
Thank you again and many thanks to all people that everyday helps each other in this forum (especially non-expertised like me!)

[Q] Help - Defy is stuck in bootloop

Hello
I've tried to upgrade my Defy (525, green lens) to CM10(jelly bean), but im stuck in a boot loop!
My phone had originally Android 2.1 installed, one year ago i successfully rooted it and Android 2.2 successfully.
What i've tried:
- load into 2nd init, wipe cache/wipe data
- install kernel-froyo-222-179-4-signed
- install CM10-20120924-NIGHTLY-mb525
- wipe dalvik cache(this does not promp for confirm, and prints nothing to the console, is this normal?), wipe data
- reboot. Now its stuck in an endless boot loop.
I can enter bootmenu/bootloader/2nd init/stable recovery. I can share here the SD card, so i can copy stuff to my phone
But as i turn on the phone, the red moto logo appears, the top LED is blue, then green, then reboot.
Did i miss something? (I've read somewhere about flashing SBF, do i need to do it?)
EDIT: I've tried to install cm-7-20120930-NIGHTLY-jordan.zip, but this gets stuck at the moto logo forever...Can i someohw see the bootlogs to fund out the problem?
Thanks
EDIT2: Solved it!
1. installed back Nordic froyo with RSD lite, rooted again
2. instaaled CM7 with this tut: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1054447
3. installed CM10 with the instructions from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1795647
dunno what went wrong for the 1st time, maybe upgrading from 2.2->4.1 does not work...
What went wrong
You have answered yourself. In the link to install Cm10, you will see the instruction requires you to flash froyo kernel.
For MB525 builds:
1) Go to Stable Recovery.
2) Wipe data/factory reset, wipe Cache and go to Advanced ► Wipe dalvik.
3) Go to install zip from sdcard ► Choose zip from sd card.
4) Flash froyo kernel
5) Flash CM10-2012xxxx-NIGHTLY-mb525.zip.
6) Flash Gapps.
7) Wipe Cache and Dalvik again (recommended).
8) Restart.

[Q] Question about MS2Ginger

I'm currently running CM10.2 by Engle_Mars but I would like to try MS2Ginger 5. ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1931968 )
I've read the thread but can't really find some concrete information as to the installation steps. Do I need to install both the rom and the kernel listed in that thread?
I have the latest kernel: SPKernelR6+UP.7z (16.05 - New Revision! <Rev6>) and the v5 Rom.
In cm10.2 Do I just reboot to recovery, install the kernel, install the rom, wipe data/cache, reboot?
Thanks.

You dont need to install kernel from MSGinger thread. It is working with stock one without any problem
0. Extract rom to /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup
1. you must format data and cache to ext3 - you can do that from bootmenu
2. boot to recovery and flash this recovery: http://www.mediafire.com/?i1rcie7tf4y6rmu
because CM10.2 has TWRP recovery and it cant recover CWM nandroid backups
3. Boot to CWM based Recovery.
4. Restore the ROM.
5. Reboot , boot again to CWM
6. Now Wipe Data & Cache.
Thank you!

[Q] Omni Rom on FInd 5 installation fails

Hey Omni Community,
Today i tried to install the Omni Rom (omni-4.4.2-20131219-find5-NIGHTLY) on my Oppo Find 5. First i rooted the device with framaroot and then installed twrp.
Secondly i copied the rom + gapps on the phone. In twrp in cleared the cache + dalvik and tried to install the rom. But in the middle of the progress it stoped and says "fail" .
What is that and why.

We need far more information than this... considering that none of the developers can reproduce this issue.
Also, rooting the device was completely unnecessary since you can just flash TWRP with fastboot.
I got it Fixed
i just changed to cwm and it worked.
Done it without rooting .

Trying to install cyanogenmod to nexus 4, I cannot flash it through TWRP recovery

I am trying to flash my N4 with cyanogenmod following the official wiki.
I'm at the point where I've installed TWRP into recovery, I've wiped everything (I've even formatted them since I couldn't wipe all of it initially), and the only error I see is "unable to mount /usb-otg".
Then, I've "installed" the CN zip files for the 13 and 12 versions, none of them works in the sense that when I reboot the system, I'm always coming back to TWRP.
What's wrong? Any suggestion?
Thanks
I've the same problems with my nexus 4

Hi gerardgerard,
I also wanted to flash my Nexus 4 with Cyanogenmod 12.1. So I installed TWRP into recovery and wiped everything, like it's explained in the wiki. I can also see the error "unable to mount /usb-otg". When I want to reboot the system I always get back to TWRP. Cyanogenmod doesn't boot correctly. Did you find a solution for the problem?
same problem
Hi
I'm having the same problem. As follows:
Cause (my mistake): I have been using Cyanogen-mod nightlies for a couple of months on my Nexus 4, and made the grave mistake of leaving the phone to upgrade one night but without it being plugged in properly - and it ran out of power part way through! (At least, that's what I think happened).
Fortunately, it would boot into bootloader and I could use adb/fastboot. I (re)installed TWRP 2.8.7.0 (from my Mac, using fastboot). And that works fine - I can boot into twrp ok.
Next I loaded the latest nightly from cm (using fastboot - is this what people call sideloading?) and used twrp to install it. It goes through the installation fine (the only error message is that it can't mount /usb-otg). But when I reboot it just goes back to twrp.
I then tried installing the earlier cm nightly that I know worked, but with the same result.
Finally, before I first installed cm I did a backup (using twrp), and I have tried recovering that. It seems to do all the right things, but again when I reboot it just goes back to twrp.
Any suggestions would be welcome.
Thanks
J
Flash back to a completely stock ROM and run through the set up to make sure everything works. Then copy CM to the phone, reboot to fastboot, flash twrp, immediately boot into recovery using the volume and power button without leaving fastboot, wipe data, cache, system, flash CM, reboot.
If the phone will not boot after flashing a stock ROM, boot to fastboot, flash the userdata.img file, and immediately go to stock recovery without leaving fastboot, wipe data/cache, reboot.
It works now!
I managed to fix the problem ... I found this guide for the Nexus 5:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/tutorial-how-to-flash-factory-image-t2513701
and I applied those instructions. It didn't work first time, so I just repeated them and now it's working. I used the 5.1.1 stock downloaded from https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#occam.
I guess this is what audit13 means in their post - so thanks are due there.
I will next reinstall twrp and cm and I don't expect any problems with that (having done it successfully before).

Autorec is just the first step to twrp. Go to https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/development/twrp-twrp-2-8-0-0-kernel-f2fs-tools-t2898705 and get the bumped version 3.1.0-1.
Then put it in your phones memory, boot into twrp you got from autorec and flash the new version.

Hi,
It seems I have the same issue :
I tried to install LineAge, using TWRP 3.2.1 (from CM12.1), but nothing is working (I tried 20180425 and 20180404 nightly versions). After reboot I can see the backlight on the lcd screen but nothing else. Then I tested the installation of a CM12 version, all is right, normal boot. No error message written in the console. i tried also a CM13 install, same as Lineage.
Do you think I have to flask back to LG "OS" ?

Are you clean flashing? Make sure to factory reset, wipe system, data and cache before flash. Never wipe internal storage. Swipe factory reset again after flash. Try flashing gapps later after confirming that Rom boots fine.

Hi,
yes I wiped Dalvik, system, data & cache through TWRP, before flash. But I don't wipe after, I rebooted without GApps...
Maybe, because I read that somewhere, I need to flash a bootstack. I don't know when I have to di it, if I have to do.
Thanks

Yes, you don't wipe after flash, but you swipe the factory reset, it does not wipe but resets the flashed Rom. Give it a clean shot again. Check MD5 of the all files you downloaded with original MD5 to confirm the file didn't get corrupt.
Boot stack flash not needed. Please read the first post thoroughly in lineage thread
"""
Requirements:
Custom recovery (TWRP or any other)
KitKat (KK) bootloader (included in the lg-devs LP bootstack)
KitKat (KK) bootstack minimum; Please read the entire FAQ for important bootstack information. Installation of bootstacks is NOT recommended.
Clean flash if coming from another ROM or CM 13 (no dirty flash, wipe system too check you bootstack(needen bump support)

Hi,
what do you mean by "you swipe the factory reset", I'm not sure what it is, either "give it a clean shot again".
Sorry I'm not very aware of all those processes ^_^, and I'm french so not very aware of some vocabulary words
Thank you
