I'm using adw launcher. It's not extremely tablet optimized but everything works

Nice question.
I'm using Google Experience Launcher (GEL), but no wallpapers... And I've realized that not everything is working with it and it doesn't replace the panels.
Correct me if I'm wrong, the problem is with framework-res.apk.
I'm going to compare or push it unchanged from mantaray-kot49h system.img (or from prev. version) but I'm sure this is wrong decision, Amazon have done nice customization which became to kind of "vendor lock".

I've just downloaded Nova and it's pretty neat. It does have widgets but I'm unsure about wallpapers. There's a auto rotation issue that causes the screen to flip around but locking the orientation fixes that and then you can unlock.

As noted before under the "Nova" topic, Nova Launcher works fine if you're rooted, and wallpaper works. Just not "live wallpaper". Same with widgets.
I think I did the "gapps-rom" update, which added Apex launcher, which should also work. I just happen to have paid for Nova on my phone so I prefer that.

do you mean the nova launcher can show the wallpaper on a rooted HDX? How did you do it?

Yes, wallpaper works with Nova, including Wigets. But, you have to go here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2591547
and #1 Root Kindle and #4 Fix Wallpaper to be sure it´s working.

I never did the wallpaper fix, so I'm relatively sure that's NOT the key problem.

buzz launcher wallpapers but no widgets
You can use buzz launcher and use wallpapers but no widgets. I'd recommend using the gapps ROM or the aosp ROM for a better launcher.

ADWLauncher EX or Honeycomb Stock Launcher.

What do you guys use Honeycomb Stock Launcher or ADWLauncher EX? Their seems to be some problems on Stock Launcher on 3.1. ADWLauncher is superfast. Does anyone know how to get rid of ADWLauncher's dock?
There's an ADW setting to get rid of the dock, and not use a "hidden" dock, and even to hide the menu bar on the top (as well as edit what is there).
Takes some dicking around, but once you've got ADW set up, you won't want to go back to the space-wasting, tacky "Tron" blue neon, sluggish stock launcher, unless you really really really miss the fancy widget/wallpaper/app placement + menu.
Yeah, figured it out. Phew. I think most of widgets that I use should work. It's blazing fast.

How is adw fast when it's pretty much an overlay on TW?

I can't tell you science behind it. Lol it doesn't hurt to try. It won't change anything on your system.

To my understanding adw is not an overlay but a replacement. You use either stock launcher or an alternative.
he's right, it's fast because it replace the stock one. When you press home it fires up the ADW apk instead of the default one.
ADW is better programmed, has more options and is a lot faster than the default.
It's a good purchase.
ADW all the way!!
To tell you the truth...if it weren't for ADW, I was seriously considering selling my Tab. The lag was just killing me. Love the customization abilities of ADW.
Was close to sticking ADWLauncher EX, but could not find a way to get the menu bar to be translucent like the stock launcher. The black didn't look good to me, and hiding it still left a black bar at the top. Am I missing a setting? I looked and looked. Thanks.
I think Honeycomb isn't ready for widgets.

ADW is NOT faster or smoother than Touchwiz launcher. Touchwiz launcher is actually better.
ADW is amazing on the tab. Its MUCH faster than stock. I turned off all animations on the stock launcher and its still faster than stock. My only gripe is that ADW hasn't totally optimized widget sizing when it comes to turning the tab. For example, when you look at a Gmail widget horizontally and then flip the screen the widget looks way to stretched vertically. You can edit the number of columns and rows but I can't get it to look all that great.

But the Touchwiz launcher is still faster than ADW....
Is it possible to use multilive wallpaper widget? Meaning so you can have different wallpapers on each screen. For some reason I cant make it work.

No, it's not. It's much much faster than TW.
You are using ADW EX, right, and not just the free ADW?

It's handled via themes. Mine is transparent, but it's been a month or more, forget what I did to get it that way.

Incorrect by scientific standards. I can load up widgets on my home screens and the Touchwiz launcher runs perfectly smooth while ADW shutters and I used the paid version of ADW.
ADW is not as optimized for the tab10 hardware.
Sorry for mixup when I said ADW is faster than stock I meant touch wiz as it is now the default launcher on my tab. TW brought improvements to honeycomb but in my experience ADW trumps it.

Semi-Transparent/Transparent application menu while keeping original launcher

Is it possible to make the applications menu semi-transparent/transparent while keeping the original launcher? I don't like it when I press the app drawer and the app menu turns the background black.
Its something like this(in the attachments) but I also want it to be completely transparent.
If you get an alternate launcher from the Play Store like Nova or Apex, I believe there is an option in the settings to adjust the opacity of the app drawer. I don't think there is a way to do this with the stock launcher, though.

I hope to keep the stock launcher because I want to keep it original while doing some mods to it to make it look better
Unless you somehow mod the stock launcher and change the background transparency then no you can't do it. I use Nova launcher and my app drawer is semi transparent. Nova is much better than the stock launcher IMO. Maybe talk to a dev and see if they can help you out with the mod if you wanna keep everything stock.

here is the blog post i wrote about it Top 5 android theming apps

Also Apex Launcher (similar to Nova but some slight differences).
I tend to use either Nova or Apex (currently Nova since they were the first to add in KitKat's transparent status bar) but Themer is on track to be very cool for people who want something a little less like an extended version of the stock launcher. It's still in beta but it's from the folks at mycolorscreen who have become the best source for custom theming on Android.
My number 1 spot would go to Themer. Liked it from my old phone. Since I'm not that keen on customizing anymore, and I want to have Google Now with just 1 swipe away on my homescreen, I don't use it currently. But from all the launchers I have tried so far, themer is my favorite one. The second place goes to Action Launcher.

about the launchers, my favorite atm is holo launcher...
cos all i need from a launcher is gesture swipes.. up & down for notification & app drawer..
nova & apex have these only in paid version..
i wish GEL would incorporate gestures..
along with access for google now & LMT, that would be perfect
Sliding Explorer
Sliding Explorer have full screen on 4.4:laugh:

I was always a nova user since i had a galaxy nexus. Since getting the nexus 5 though, i discovered more customization tools for themes and widgets, and ive been using Go launcher just because it works with the aesthetic/homescreen setup im currently using.
If nova launcher had a few more tweaks to it like icons not clipping/cropping, id probably go back to using it.

Yeah they updated it to work on their website but the play store version wasn't updated yet. I had a thread on it. The only thing I don't like about it is non transparent nav bar. The notification bar is transparent but not the nav bar. In the broken version it was transparent. Not sure why it was removed unless that's what caused the issues

working launchers

Hey guys just wanted to see what luck everyone has with launchers on the hdx 7.
My favorite launcher is nova, but until the wallpaper issue is fixed for non rooted users then it looks I'm stuck with using aviate.
In case you haven't gotten around to trying it, aviate seems to be 100% working, widgets wallpapers and all. Great alternative to mojito.
I haven't tried on a non rooted device but apex works great on my rooted hdx.
Sent from my KFTHWI using Tapatalk
None if you don't root. AND the reason Aviate Works is it's portrait only, so it never has to worry about the reverse rotation issue.

That would be cool. I'll check both of those out when I get home tomorrow. I use go launcher ex but it sucks with no widgets or background. I'm non-rooted.

Best - Third Party Launcher

Post here which third party launcher you guys are using
I'm using inspire launcher & it works so smooth
Touchwiz ...and forever touchwiz
I usually use Google Launcher with Xposed GEL settings
but as for third party launchers, I prefer Inspire Launcher or Next Launcher
On a side note, "Best" anything threads are discouraged on XDA
Best ???, choose what you like most.
For me Nova Launcher works fine.

GO launcher
i have searched NOVA launcher as best , but i find Go launcher nicer than Nova in some points like : I am not able to hide app like i can do in GO launcher, other like nice effect and icon in go launcher ( yes, you can install huge icon pack in go launcher).
:good: try go and Nova launcher and share your experience here.:good::good:
[ tried Dodol and themer beta, they have cool themes but i dont like those much ]
