[Q] Safe Root? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Are there any safe roots available for the Rogers version? One that doesn't increase the boot flash count and mess up the knox thing?

Did you try the new safe root .bat file? It worked on my att phone, I'm sure your phone isn't much different.

As long as you don't mess with the update programs from your carrier you should be good. It is a good idea to use super user pro and do a root survival anytime you get an ota update. Going to sleep now, have fun.

Your sig says you have an i9505. Your info says you are on Sprint. And...you are asking about a Verizon ROM in the AT&T forum. Wow.
Might need to clarify a few things before you can get some help.
Oh wow haha lol. Funny story here. I recently switched from sprint (about a month ago). Never bothered to change that to att I guess lol. Second, I'm running goldeneye 8.0 so I guess that's a build prop thing by Tapatalk

You just need to fish the T-Mobile compatibility module right after flashing the rom.

[Q] root for latest android 4.3 update?

I recently received the ota 4.3 update for my at&t gs4, but I've been dying to try cyanogen mod on my phone or at least be able to remove a little bloatware. Could anyone point me to a tutorial somewhere to root this thing if it's possible yet? I do have a little experience with flashing roms and rooting with my old samsung replenish, but only with odin... thanks.
-EDIT Also is kingo really malware like many people on xda say? And does kingo work with the new MJ9 build for AT&T's S4?
If you have a little experience flashing Roms than you'll be experienced in the art of Google search. There are many threads about this already
Use this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2531704
Works the same for att even though its for verizon. Same root method but beware it could add malicious stuff to your phone and computer. Do a little researching first before you do anything. Good luck

And even when your rooted there is still no custom recovery for 4.3...so no rom flashes are possible

Thanks for the link to the tutorial. I've been looking stuff up about vroot and apparently it contains some sort of trojan... I also read a comment on YouTube where someone with the at&t MJ9 build had success with it but what are the risks other than bricking?

[Q] Root method 4.4.2?

Hi i was just wondering if there has been a root method for the 4.4.2 OTA update. I updated a few weeks back and have been dying for root access.
The baseband version is N900VVRUCNC4.
Thanks in advance!

Im sure there will be in time?
Would we be able to downgrade thru Odin and then root and then flash rooted version of 4.4.2?

Doubt it...most of the devs that might be capable moved on from Verizon and really do not care. The reason being soon as a exploit is found and released it then is patched by the next update. It's a cat and mouse game not worth playing. There are methods out there that allow you have rooted 4.4.2, The sticky at the top of this section explains it all. "Never Accept OTA Updates".

No The Verizon N3 is model N900V and this article deals with the UK model N900
Also, in the UK the status of the Knox warranty counter doesn't matter. In the US it does.

How do I perform system update without losing root?

Not sure what you are looking to gain from updating. I've been told adding mods as you like to mock update, as oppose to taking the update and losing root because of the patched exploit is the better way to go.

Nope, locked bootloader prevents changing the kernel, so once you upgrade that's it.
To the OP: 4.4.4 for the Verizon S5 isn't even out yet.

I saw a question just like this about a month ago and one the replies was something like this... " if you people out there want the new stuff just to be running NEW, you shouldn't even be rooted because you don't really understand the value of it. You don't even appreciate it." You should be happy, as it is, with the fact that that there are at least 5 Custom Rom's out there AND all you had to do was sideload an apk. Updates are not necessarily stable OR really add anything...usually just a patch for those that are too eager for "New", so you can't be rooted.
Why do you think there are OTA blockers on these Rom's? For a reason. It's just too easy now. You didn't even have to plug your phone into your PC and execute a console exe like for the S2. Some of us actually had to wait patiently for like a month just hoping for a developer to find an exploit! :SMH:

Thanks,
I updated my guide HERE: http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...bilized-process-to-unlock-bootloader-t3375527 to say N910VVRU2BPA1 but I think, at this time, it will work with any version. HOWEVER, Future OTA updates may block this exploit.

Well after I bricked mine from a bad Rom install and no back up would work. I didn't want to mess with a phone that wasn't mine. I was to frustrated. Now I know it is possible and after getting sleep I'll probably do it this week.
