What is a Raspberry Pi?
---------------------------------
The Raspberry Pi is a credit-card sized computer that plugs into your TV and a keyboard. It is a capable little computer which can be used in electronics projects, and for many of the things that your desktop PC does, like spreadsheets, word-processing and games. It also plays high-definition video. We want to see it being used by kids all over the world to learn programming.

BerryBoot v2.0 - bootloader / universal operating system installer like dualboot ,but you can have more!!!!!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How to install the awesome BERRYBOOT (multiple boot) and different OS on one SD Card,online/offline?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For people short on SD cards: Berryboot is a simple boot selection screen, allowing you to put multiple Linux distribution on a single SD card.
In addition it allows you to put the operating system files on an external USB hard drive instead of on the SD card itself.
------------
Download link Berryboot for the Raspberry Pi: BerryBoot.zip
-----------
To install: extract the contents of the .zip file to a normal (FAT formatted) SD card, and put it in your Raspberry Pi. This can be simply done under Windows without any special image writer software.
Once you start your Pi it will start an installer that reformats the SD card and downloads the operating systems files from the Internet.
----------
Other devices
In addition to running on the Raspberry Pi, Berryboot also supports Android tablets, TV sticks and boards that have an Allwinner A10 processor.
For more information see the BerryBoot A10 page
--------
Walkthrough:
------------------
If your Pi is connected to the Internet BerryBoot will try to detect your location based on your IP-address, and set the right timezone automatically. Verify that it is correct and press “ok"
Select where you want to store the operating system files, and press “format” You can install the operating system files on the SD card itself or an external USB stick/disk. Be aware that if you choose an external drive, the files of the operating system will be stored there, but you still need to keep the SD card in the Pi to boot from.
"WARNING: all existing files on the disk will be erased."
Select which operating system you want to install. You can add more later.
It will download the files from the Internet automatically.
In the Berryboot menu editor you can install more operating systems, rename them, delete them, etc. Press “exit” to exit the editor and start using the operating system you installed.
HDMI CEC support:
---------------------------
When attached to a HDMI TV, you can also use the arrows on your TV remote to select an operating system to boot, instead of using your keyboard or mouse.
Available options in menu editor:
----------------------------------------------
“Add OS” (or CTRL+A on keyboard, red button on TV remote)
Single click to download additional operating systems from the Internet.
Hold down your mouse button over the “Add OS” button and select “copy OS from USB stick”, to install an operating system saved on USB stick.
“Edit” (or ENTER on keyboard)
Change the name of the selected operating system.
You used to be able to change the memory split setting here as well, but for new installations (that have CMA enabled) this is no longer used.
“Clone”
Creates a copy of the selected operating system.
It is possible to create either a copy that includes the file system changes you made, or create a copy of the original operating system image as downloaded from the Internet.
“Backup”
Creates a backup of a single operating system or all of them to a USB stick, or SD card (requires USB SD card reader).
Backups of individual images can be restored by holding down the “add OS” button and selecting “copy OS from USB stick”
“Delete” (or DEL on keyboard)
Deletes the files of the selected operating system.
“Make default”
Makes the selected operating system the default. On boot, this operating system will be started automatically unless another is selected within a number of seconds.
“Exit” (or ESC on keyboard)
Exits the menu editor.
--------------------------------
Advanced options:
--------------------------
Click on the ”»” button to the right of the screen to see all options.
“Advanced configuration”
------------------------------------
Editor for configuration files such as cmdline.txt and config.txt
When using a Raspberry Pi you can specify kernel parameters and Berryboot parameters in cmdline.txt (use uEnv.txt if you have another device).
Special Berryboot parameters:
bootmenutimeout=<number of seconds> - number of seconds before default operating system is started. nobootmenutimeout - do not start the default operating system automatically.
---------------------------------------------------------
In config.txt advanced overscan, HDMI and overclocking settings can be specified. See the RPIconfig page on eLinux.org for details.
Note that overclocking is known to cause SD card filesystem corruption, so only use that when you are using an USB stick or drive as storage and know what you are doing.
-----------------------------------
“Console”
Activates a console on tty2
Press CTRL+ALT+F2 to access, username “root”, no password.
“Set password”
Password protects access to the menu editor, so that unauthorized users cannot delete or edit the operating systems.
“Repair filesystem”
Performs a file system check and repair. Attempts to repair file system corruption. Can perform a lot of writes to the SD card, so you might want to make a backup of important files first.
Alternative installation method using disk image:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
If you are experiencing problems unpacking the installation files to a FAT formatted SD card (the easiest and recommend installation method), you can alternatively use a tool like Win32diskimager or dd to write this disk image to the card.
The disk image is meant to install Berryboot on another device, but it includes the Raspberry Pi boot files as well.

HOW TO MAKE SD CARD PARTITIONS EASY AND SAFE
HOW TO MAKE SD CARD/USB STICK ABLE TO BOOT MY RASPI ???
SOME NICE WALLPAPER FOR DESKTOP!!!!
DOWNLOAD AT THE END OF THE THREAD
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THATS ONLY 2 EXAMPLES FROM HOW I HAVE DONE IT WITH OPENELEC
ON LINUX MINT 32bit+1gb SD CARD
Windows 8.1 64bit and 1gb SD CARD
AND MINITOOL PARTITION WIZARD.
AND Win32DiskImager
---------------------------------
HOW TO MAKE SD CARD PARTITIONS:
Under Windows the following ingredients are required:
a properly formatted SD card
the distribution archive
a brain
---------
Formatting the SD card
A properly formatted SD card for OpenELEC requires to have two partition on it whereas one of them is formated with an ext4 filesystem. This requires a third party tool like the MiniTool® Partition Wizard. It happens that MiniTool is offering a Home Edition which is free for home use only.
MiniTool® Partition Wizard
The first step is deleting all partitions and then create the first one afterwards.
The original script is creating a FAT32 partition occupying 16 cylinders resulting in approx. 130 MB. So did I and named it “System”. In addition I assigned drive letter S: to it (the assigned drive letter will be used later).
On the left side of the Partition Wizard you can follow the actions that will be performed upon apply. Next the ext4 partition is created and named “Storage” consuming the remaining space on the card. You will receive a warning stating that Windows will only show the very first partition on a removable media. Acceptable in our case.
The new partition layout now should look similar to this:
-----------------------------------
At this point the modifications can be applied (via the button “Apply” in the upper left) and in a last step the first partition will be marked as “Active” (right-click over the partition; Modify -> Set Active).
Copying OpenELEC to the SD card
The distribution comes as compressed tar archive which needs to be extracted first (7zip will do this job). At the end you should have a folder OpenELEC-RPi.arm-3.2.3 containing the distribution. Assuming that you have assigned drive letter S: to the SD card the following sequence will copy the required files to the card:
------------------------------------------------
cd OpenELEC-RPi.arm-3.2.3
copy target\KERNEL S:\kernel.img
copy target\SYSTEM S:\
copy 3rdparty\bootloader\*.* S:\
copy openelec.ico S:\
copy README.md S:\
--------------------------------
Last but not least you need to create a file ‘cmdline.txt’ on the SD card with the following content:
boot=/dev/mmcblk0p1 disk=/dev/mmcblk0p2 console=ttyAMA0,115200 kgdboc=ttyAMA0,115200 console=tty1 ssh
-------------------------------
That’s it. Insert the SD card into your Raspi and power it on. The Raspberry will boot OpenELEC!!!!
-------------------------------
THE WINDOWS METHOD IS MUCH EASIER,THE ONLY THING YOU NEED IS A FRESH ---- FAT ----
FORMATTED SD CARD,A RASPBERRY OS AS IMAGE FILE,A PC + Win32diskImager.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
AFTER INSTALL,BLA;BLA FROM DISKIMAGER OPEN IT AND GO TO BROWSE,SEARCH YOUR IMG.
AND ENABLE IT BY OK,NOW PUT THE PATH TO SD CARD IN SECOND ROW AND PRESS OK,IT
MIGHT BE WARNING YOU THAT SOME CARDS ARE GOING TO HEAVEN BY DOING THIS,BUT
NO FEAR,I HAVE DONE IT MORE THAN 100 TIMES WITH ONE CARD AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM!!!!
JUST PRESS OK AND WAIT TILL YOUR CARD IS READY -1-2 min.,THATS IT!!!!!!

Android_*^ Easy Installer
Finally, an alternative installer. I am having difficulty in installing my android_x86. The installer won't detect my local hard drives even if the grub menu says "Install to Harddrive". I only get endless dots after the "Detecting Android_86". The installer only detects flash drives and SD cards and is willing to install the system onto the SD card. I tried various .iso images that are compatible with my machine and they all have the same story. Then I thought of tricking my PC. So I installed Android_x86 onto my SD card. Then using Gparted, I copied the partition (where I installed Android) onto my local harddrive. Afterwhich I edited my Ubuntu grub menu to be able to boot the partition. It worked! But not fully. I am again stuck with the "Detecting Android_x86..............(endless)". Same story, it will not detect my local harddrives even the very partition where the kernel and initrd files were succesfully loaded from.
I next experimented with VirtualBox. They all worked and detected the virtual hard disks just fine. Its just that the jellybean system runs slowly. However I am still keen on running Android alongside my other operating systems without virtual machines.
So I was very happy to have heard this easy installer. I just need help. when I first ran the Android Easy Installer, it went looking for grldr(grub4dos). So I downloaded and decompressed Grub4dos. I ran the installer again and it copied the necessary files to C:\. But this time, it came looking for "menu_VESA.lst". I looked everywhere including the internet but I do not know how to provide this file. How do I generate it? Please Help, Thanks.

OK, I don't know what's happened in your PC but this is the first time i see result like this.
I tested installer with (PC/Laptop/Netbook) with different Version of Windows but this is new to me.
I think you are using GRUB as bootloader or something like that.
FYI, The Installer packaged with All Files Required including GRUB.
menu_VESA.lst is grub config file, i created it for devices which use Intel HD, Nvidia or ATI Graphics Cards (you will not find this on the net )
menu_VESA.lst (Attached)
1. extract menu_VESA.zip
2. copy menu_VESA.lst to root of C:
3. Rename it to menu.lst
I hope this fixed your problem
waiting for your feedback
Thank you very much

Thank you for the file.
Yes I am using GRUB. Actually, Windows XP occupies my first partition. My other partitions are populated by Ubuntu, Pear 6, Zorin 6, and Fedora 17. (in that order) We all know that these operating systems use GRUB2 and I installed each operating system's own grub in their own respective partitions (as you will see why later). The next partition is DATA. After that dwells Oracle Solaris 11 which uses GRUB 0.79. Since Oracle uses the ZFS filesystem, I thought that its not a good idea to have Linux GRUB2 boot Solaris partition since it does not recognize ZFS. In fact these systems cannot find the ZFS partition. So I decided to install Oracle last. Oracle's GRUB 0.79 on the other hand can readily "see" the Windows partition but also cannot see the Linux operating systems. However I found a way to boot them all using Oracle's GRUB 0.79. I chainloaded all of them from my Solaris menu.lst. And since I installed each Linux's own GRUB2 in their local partition, GRUB 0.79 simply chainloads booting to the GRUB2 of whichever Linux OS I choose. As I mentioned in my previous post, from GRUB2 I found a way to boot Android_x86 (on the hard drive partition copied from an SD card partition) and it worked. However, Android's kernel won't continue loading after the kernel and initrd, since it does not detect any of my hard drives. (I think) It only continues loading if it detects a flash drive or an SD card inserted. (and android is installed on that removable disk)
I am yet to try reinstalling using the Easy Installer. I will update you. Thank you very much

Okay I tried over again. I followed your instructions and just to be safe, I also put a copy of menu_VESA.lst to the folder where the installer is located. (There is already a menu.lst in that folder from the Grub4dos package that I downloaded). Good news...it is no longer looking for menu_VESA.lst, so that satisfies it. Now however at the point where status says "Creating Android boot" an error window pops up: "System cannot find the file specified" and then halts installation. This time I do not know which file it is looking for. I have the iso image properly selected, the install destination has been selected (drive G:\ - a newly formatted 30GB NTFS partition) and User Data was set to 10GB. Now I do not know what file it is looking for. By the way, I downloaded and unzipped in the same directory of the Easy Installer a Grub4dos package since it was looking for these files. What do you think? Thanks for any help you could extend me.

Thank you for the file.
Yes I am using GRUB. Actually, Windows XP occupies my first partition.
Now however at the point where status says "Creating Android boot" an error window pops up: "System cannot find the file specified" and then halts installation.

That's True, the file is: bcdedit.exe which isn't included in Windows XP because it uses NTLDR not Windows Boot Manager.
The Installer Works with Windows Vista/7/8
Thank you

Okay, so does this mean that the installer works only with Windows Boot Manager and not with NTLDR? The way I understand it, the installer also invokes grub4dos to boot android_x86. From what I know, boot.ini can be edited to accommodate alternate booting with grub4dos and this is compatible with NTLDR right? What my Oracle Solaris GRUB 0.79 does is that it chainloads to the Windows partition thereby transferring control to NTLDR. Then, NTLDR via boot.ini, can boot grub4dos which in turn could boot Android_x86. I think this could work.
However, I want to know if simply supplying the bcdedit.exe will continue the installation of Android_x86 and afterwards I can just manually edit grub4dos' menu.lst? Also, what other files (not included in your installer) should I have on hand to satisfy a complete install? Thanks for your reply.

thanks for this info.
I wasn't implement support of NTLDR, because i think a lot of people are using new Versions like Vista/7/8
just copying bcdedit.exe will not solve the problem, because bcdedit.exe is just boot config editor not the Boot Manager itself
Thank you

Turning note into a Linux laptop: a step by step guide

Turning note into a Linux laptop: a step by step guide
The main advantage of the method here is that you can run android app and linux program side by side. Moreover, S-pen can act as mouse
Device: p600
ROM: P600UEUBMK1
(Following method may be applicable if your device is rooted and has other selinux permissive ROM installed)
1 Root and flash selinux permissive kernel
a. for root method, see
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2490805
b. Flash selinux permissive kernel, for instructions, see
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2590311
Please read the instructions completely.
c. Install SElinuxModeChanger
Install SElinuxModeChanger from Google Play (app is free and without ads) and change selinux mode to permissive.
Reboot note, if SELINUX status is Permissive in the Setting--about device, you can move on to next step.
2 Install Linux distro using Linux Deploy
Install Linux Deploy from Google Play (app is free and without ads), Start Linux Deploy and push the Download Button, and then in the Deploy option, you have the following choices:
a. Distribution
I have tried Debian and Ubuntu, both have been successful installed.
b. Distribution suite
For Debian , choose Jessie.
For Ubuntu, choose Trusty.
c. Architeture
Choose armhf.
d. Mirror URL
For Debian, http://202.141.160.110/debian
202.141.160.110 is the IP address of debian.ustc.edu.cn (one of the Debian mirrors in China)
You can choose other mirrors from
https://www.debian.org/mirror/list
but remember to convert the web address into IP address
For Ubuntu, http://18.7.29.125/ubuntu-ports/
18.7.29.125 is the IP address of mirrors.mit.edu
The above mirrors are chosen because they are stable and fast for users in China.
e. Installation type
File(default option)
f. Installation path
For Debian, /storage/emulated/0/debian.img
For Ubuntu, /storage/emulated/0/ubuntu.img
In fact , You can choose whatever file name you like. I chose the above names, because I actually installed both Debian and Ubuntu on my device.
g. Image size
Automatic calculation (default option)
h. File system
Auto (default option)
i. User name
Android (default option)
j. DNS server
Automatic detection (default option)
k. Localization
en_US.UTF-8 (default option)
l. Desktop environment
Xfce
m. Select components
Just check all components
After the Deploy options have been set, choose Install under Action options.
The installation time taken depends on the mirror chosen and how stable the internet connection is.
When you see “end: Install”
Push the Stop Button, and then Start Button.
If no information about failure of starting SSH and VNC services are shown, then the installation is successful.
3 Configure startup environment using Linux Deploy
Push the Download Button, ensure that both SSH and GUI are checked under STARTUP option.
for Graphic subsystem, choose VNC
for GUI setting, Display is set to 0, Depth 24, DPI 270, Width 2560, Height 1600.
check Custom mounts
For Mount points, add /mnt/extSdCard/ so that you can access external sdcard under linux environment.
or add /mnt/0/ to access internal sdcard.
Back to the main page, push Stop and then Start Button to see if external sdcard and internal sdcard can be mounted.
4 Set up ssh and vnc client
a. Install JuiceSSH from Google Play (app is free and without ads),
Launch JuiceSSH, under Connections, choose New Connection,
In basic settings, Type is set to SSH, Address is set to 127.0.0.1 (IP of local host), and Identity is android.
Back to the main page, connect to 127.0.0.1, when prompting for password, enter changeme. You are now login into Debian or Ubuntu.
b. Install bVNC from Google Play (there are free and pro versions, free version is fine)
In the Connect Type, choose Basic VNC.
In the VNC Connections Settings, Address is set to 127.0.0.1, port 5900, and password changeme.
Push the connect button, You are now login into Debian or Ubuntu desktop.

It's impractical at best. I mean I appreciate the time it took for you to write this, but linux through chroot is not very useful, it cannot be. It's like trying to run linux on a p3 machine, which is painful to see especially since our machines have the raw power of a fast core 2 duo (if cross platform benchs are to be believed).
What we need is a custom bootloader which would enable dual boot of Linux and android and then a proper linux kernel including driver support for all our tablets main components. Native linux. I've always dreamt of an ultra portable do-it-all machine and my note is almost that, with *almost* being the imperative word.
Note 2012 has it, raspberry f....ING pi has it even though it includes 1/10th of the firepower of our note, we don't, and I miss it oh so much for certain apps. The pen via hovering can act like a proper ultra portable mouse (tapping -> left click, pressing the key + tapping -> right click) + a floating keyboard (like Sammy 's official one) and we're golden. Alas without a proper kernel and a proper bootloader we're nothing.
Appreciate the effort, I really do, but linux deploy is mostly a toy :/
I'll await for the day that native linux comes.
does it work with framebuffer option (instead of vnc)?

Linux through chroot is sufficient for the following purposes:
1 have a taste of different linux distro
2 learning programming in R, python, and octave.
3 editing and compiling no so large latex files
4 learning and practicing the universal editor emacs ( I use it with R,python and octave) if equipped with a physical keyboard.
In sum, note 10.1 with linux through ssh and vnc is perfect for educational purpose.
For developer, at least, they can learn how their linux program looks like in a 10 inch screen with 2560*1600 resolution.

I have the same question for op or anyone in the know. Can you start gui without vnc?
I have tried framebuffer on several devices, including note , without success.
Are there any prerequisite to use it?
Thank you for the guide. I am stuck in point 4th setup ssh and vnc when I try to connect I think it doesnt rcognize address 127.0.0.1 as I recive this msj: failled to connect to /127.0.0.1 port 22 connect failed ECONREFUSED. Any idea why?

Actually there are several Linux applications I would like to run, which require very little processing power and I believe would run just fine.
WikidPad and FreeMind are the obvious ones for me; but I also have a proprietary simulation package that would probably benefit from running slower
Their value to me would because they are always available so using them would lack the friction I currently endure- I have to be at home to use them.

i had the same issue. dont paste the drivers directly to windows folder. open device manager and install drivers for intel HD graphics and I2C touch controller and touch will start working. for rotation need to install bosch accelorometer drivers
Memory problem
I was told Memory 32 GB expandable upto 500 GB. How can it be expanded? It looks there is no room for HDD of 500 GB. Windows 10 was unable to update due to low space ie less than 4 GB, Windows needs 5 GB space.
In Android they gave 8 GB ROM for me. They said 32 GB ROM, atleast I understood in that way. I didn't know Windows 10 also was there, dual boot.

My hands on experience
Please do not try based on the info available in this site/thread regarding installation of Windows, installation of Android, unless further progress is there because of the following hands on experience.
1) The tablet is manufactured by little known company, hence not much development support can be expected.
2) the company is having only one service center at mumbai, they are not ready to share windows drivers or android files through downloads.
3) This looks like laptop but they say it is a tablet with keyboard, hence it is similar to phone with so many secrete partitions and files.
4) It has UEFI type BIOS only, (No legacy BIOS), it has 32 bit only hardware, it does not popular other hardware chips hence it is difficult to get worked open android OS or windows drivers* . (further I suspect it might have locked Bootloader this is the point i have missed before my attempt)
I have backed up all the 17 partitions and restored back with Easeus To Do back up (so far other image backup software are not even working on this type of environment). I have backed up various methods , as some problem i was anticipating (like Partition backup, Disk Back Up (sector by sector method), System Back up & Disk Clone while it was running OK )
But on requirement , when restoration was done with partition backup (as My windows was not booting , not resetting, not restoring , vendors asks to send it back to Mumbai)
windows problem was not solved but android was intact. when tried System restore, windows problem solved but android not booting, when disk clone restore attempted nothing was booting. when restore from Disk back up was done only windows was restoring. Hence they have locked somewhere.
I have tried to install Android -x86 5x it is 32 bit but not EFI compatible . No other s like 4.4, 6.0 etc is successful (these are installed at c drive, not same as manufacturer provided which hides in some partition )
In view of this , if windows corrupts and becomes non bootable , only Windows 10 32 bit UEFI version may be installed as per the procedure specified at initial [But screen auto rotation does not work, OS Switch is missing but we can go to bios (esc key to be pressed while booting) switch OS-but the may considered minor ]
In my case i have expanded my disk to full 28GB for Windows 10 and backup copy of OS and all imp programs like WinOffice etc & settings are stored (8GB) on my SD Disk of 32GB, which I also made bootable and selectable from BIOS. If any major corruption of windows occurs, as always saves my data on SD card, it can be temporarily removed and important work will be backed up, tablet can be restored in 40 min at click.
UEFI bios reset blind method
After some setting change in advanced video menu the screen blank
To reset / to load defaults we have to follow actual steps in blind method.
Press ESC key when you feel it is starting
Left left enter
F9 enter to load defaults
F10 enter to save
The following mentioned at Cube iWork 10 ultimate dual boot rooting at techtablets
please note that no matter what backup software you use, if you restore the entire disk image (specifically, the android partitions) android will NOT boot anymore. This is because Cube (or rather, their ODM) enabled dm-verity so the system detects that it has been “tampered” and just hangs at boot. to fix that you should reflash the official android image with the files provided by Cube, or use a modified boot.img (see rooting section)
Hey there guys, just wondering if anyone else is having the same issue as me, I have the TWG ces 101, pretty much the same tablet but with a different bios, I am having a weird issue with the touch screen, it worked fine before I nuked windows attempting to install android x86, and upon installing windows again and finally getting all the drivers working again, the touch screen is going crazy, every touch registers as it being somewhere entirely different from where you have touched, some spots on the screen when touched show up as 2 fingers on 2 random parts of the screen etc, I have tried calibrating to no avail as I cant even click where it asks me to, I have tried multiple versions of the driver (which I only found through a driver search program called SDI and right clicking it and searching the part number on microsofts download database (as it came up as unknown device and had no name)
not sure what else to really try...its driving me a bit batty

Extract the content in the rar file. Using a mouse browse the contents of the folder and open Drivers > HIDClass > KMDF HID Minidriver for Touch I2C Device

[Updated JAN 12][Deodexed]Phoenix OS v1.1.3 Bootable .iso SE and Stock

What's PhoenixOS you ask?
Phoenix OS, much like Remix OS is designed to run on x86 tablets or larger screen devices with features often found only within desktop OS's. These features include a comprehensive start menu, fully resizable multi-window support and keyboard shortcut functionality. Phoenix OS provides the desktop UI functionality, with the benefit of access to the vast array of games and applications available to the Android operating system.

Here is my newest creation. 32bit only. Root privileges need to be enabled in Developers Options.
DO NOT use the ArrowMod from previous editions. It will cause a Bootloop.
I have included 1 arrow for now. I need to test further.
Installation Guide and Rufus Installer included.

Hi, how can I modify this .iso so that I can install ala Android x86 or Remix_OS (w/ "INSTALL=1). I`ve installed both x86 and Remix from a bootable USB with the stock .iso's. I`m comparing x86 compatible OS`es for a stand-alone system. I`m running Linux Mint on my main pc. Thanks.

With linux you can use Unetbootin to burn the iso. The Phoenix grub menu has the same option to install as Remix. Rufus has more options as far as install location, formatting. It even has a partition editor. Are you trying to instsll to an empty drive?

Thanks for the quick reply, yes I`m installing the different x86 OS'es I`m trying out to an external HD that I have formatted at ext4. I plan to eventually install it as a stand-alone on a chromebox setup I`m putting together. I`ll give unetbootin a try. I haven`t tried Rufus yet, first because I assumed it would only run on a windows pc and second because I didn't want to touch my main pc's grub/bootloader.

With Linux you can just unpack the iso in the partition and invoke from the command line.
Try this tutorial:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/remix/remix-os/how-to-install-remix-os-alongside-t3352890
Also, Rufus does not have a Linux version.

I tried unetbootin which did work as far as booting into the selection menu but then it gave an error after I selected "install to hard disk"...
....(sorry for the poor pic quality, lol). I`m hesitant to try the method you mentioned since I don`t want to touch my main pc`s grub / bootloader. Thanks again for all the help.

I forgot to ask, should I try it with the "INSTALL=1" and/or debug boot options?

I'm starting to get lost. The problem is you can't get a Phoenix USB to install or you can't get it to boot after installation?
IF you can install to your external HD make sure to install grub on the external as well. When in Linux don't update-grub while external is attached. In the past I have used the Bootable cd to "Jump start" the partition I want. The probe will find the bootable Phoenix partition. Also Grub disk 2 has a feature to manually boot any partition as does Parted Magic. I'm a tad confused as to how you have Linux as your main OS but are worried about manipulating Grub. That's what it's for.
When in Phoenix Grub menu at first boot. Hit Tab or "e" to edit commands. It will show the same INSTALL=1 command?

Look, It`s my fault, I should`ve just stated from the beginning that I wanted to make a Live USB with your PhoenixOS .iso so I could install it on a fresh hard-drive. The stock Android x86 .iso is capable of this and so is the extracted .iso of Remix when you invoke the "INSTALL=1' parameter at it`s grub. I`ve succesfully installed both of these on to an external hdd that I plug in to my main pc, whose BIOS I`ve set to boot off of a usb drive first. Then I can setup said OS`es like I want them and clone them to use on to a separate system I`m slowly putting together. Are we clear now? If not, forget it and I`ll stick with one of the other two.
I haven't downloaded this .iso, but are you guys @bg260 @dave157 sure that it has install.img included? According to @dave157 picture I may suspect that there is no such file in his Phoenix directory.

I've got an external HDD. I'm going to run some tests starting with the download from the link above.
I'll try to figure out what's up.. I think we can figure it out as long as I know what it is you are trying to do.
Also of note, the Remix installer works well with Phoenix.

There is a ramdisk.img in the extracted folder of the PhoenixOS .iso, what isn`t is the boot folder (the one right next to the efi folder in the screenshots of the stock .iso`s). I`m taking a guess here but wouldn`t that be needed for legacy (non-uefi) installs through live cd/usb?

The boot directory is located in the EFI directory. I have downloaded, and installed both versions successfully to my external HD. I have booted it successfully on three different machines. I used Unetbootin with Linux to accomplish this.
Here are my steps:
1. Formatted desired partition Ext4.
2. Burn iso using Unetbootin.
3. Reboot to BIOS boot selection menu.
4. Select Install PhoenixOS to hard drive.
5. Selected pre-formatted partition, chose do not format.
6. Grub2 - Skip
7. Grub - Yes
8. Rebooted to BIOS boot selection menu.
9. Chose external HD
10. JOY.
Don't know what more I can do to help, but I want to.

Sorry to hear that as PhoenixOS is superior. IMO.
Thank you for this iso. i was able to install Phoenix OS on blank 160GB hard disk lying around gathering dust. My old netbook doesn't have any other OS except now Phoenix OS. I followed the instructions included in the download file from the OP and everything went smoothly. My netbook has legacy boot mode. I didn't encounter any problem installing to the hard disk. Now my Netbook is running solely Phoenix OS. My internal Storage is around 150GB!
And, oh, I also tried installing on an external usb hard drive using this iso and I was also successful. Tried booting from the external USB drive, and Phoenix OS booted successfully. I also tried the same external usb hard drive on another computer, and it booted successfully. (Both have legacy boot with option to boot from USB drvies from bios setup). Now i have my Phoenix OS on an external hard drive and I can use it on any computer (that allows booting from external usb drive)! Cool! Read/Write speed is only around 40Mbps, but it's ok for it's purpose.
Thank you @bg260 for this .iso!

Format the USB to EXT4 with a third party application, though NTSF might work as well. Fat32, the default for most USBs is limited to a 4gb block size. Therefore your data.img can only be 4gb.

How To Guide Make Windows Completely Private

Yes you can make windows completely 100% private as if it was linux.
Ofcourse privacy doesn’t fix zero day security exploits, this guide is about privacy not security.
For a first impression of what a truely optimized windows system looks like check the screenshots below.
Make a backup of your data is always the first thing to do.
➤ 1 Download the official windows iso from microsofts website (The iso NOT the mediacreationtool !!)
If you can’t download the iso install the useragentswitcher browser extension and switch to linux (microsoft's website detects your operatingsystem and doesn't let you download the iso if you are on windows...)
https://microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10ISO
User-Agent Switcher and Manager – Get this Extension for Firefox (en-US)
➤ 2 Download rufus and use it to create a bootable usb drive with the windows iso file you just downloaded
Rufus - Create bootable USB drives the easy way
➤ 3 Use the bootable usb drive to Install windows 10 pro offline
You will have to boot into BIOS mode and change the primary boot device to the usb drive
➤ 4 Use https://privacy.sexy 10 to generate a script that will rip the guts of microsoft out of windows
Use either one of the predefined settings (standard, strict, all) or create your own script via the options.
Be careful when creating your own script, you can break functionality like windows search, to keep functionality only standard and strict are recommended.
➤ 5 Install Device Drivers
If you have an nvidia GPU use NVCleanstall for an installation that will remove MOST of the
integrated driver spyware https://techpowerup.com/download/techpowerup-nvcleanstall/
Install your CPU chipset but DO NOT install intel management engine or AMT vPRO, these are known backdoors so governments can potentialy remotely access your pc.
Intel Desktop Chipsets - Latest Motherboard Desktop and PC Chipsets
https://amd.com/en/support
➤ 6 Install Netframework Offline
Many programs require old netframework version to work, you don't need windows update for that.
To install offline without using windowsupdate you need a copy of the windows iso you previously
downloaded.
Mount the windows iso
Open powershell as administrator
Use this command to install netframework:
Dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFX3 /All /Source:X:\sources\sxs /LimitAccess
Replace Source:X: with whatever the location of your mounted iso is, for example Source:
To find out where your iso is mounted, open the windows explorer, rightklick on the mounted iso and select open file location.
➤ 7 Install Visual Studio Redistributables
Latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable downloads | Microsoft Learn
➤ 8 Install Librewolf WebBrowser (no extensions required, ublockorigin is already preinstalled)
Installation – LibreWolf
Searchengines:

Duckduckgo cannot be trusted anymore since they had a tracking agreement with microsoft.
Don't use startpage search engine or waterfox browser, both have been acquired by an adversting company called System1.
Librewolf is a modified version of firefox for increased privacy and security, while google chrome and microsoft edge collect your entire browsing history and every website you visited.
PS: Opera Browser is now owned by china, delete that if you haven't already.
➤ 9 Use ShutUp10 to modify windows privacy settings
Recommended: Klick on “actions” select “activate all privacy settings”, then manually uncheck what
you need.
Examples: microphone, camera, bluetooth, notifications.
O&O ShutUp10++ – Free antispy tool for Windows 10 and 11
➤ 10 Go Online for the first time, instantly install Portmaster from https://safing.io
Select Quad9 as your DNS server, they are non-profit, unlike most other providers like your internetservicepovider (ISP) are commerical and spy on everything you do on the internet.
Configure portmaster to block all connections by default and only allow what you need. (must have for privacy)
Unlock the systemdnsclient in portmaster otherwise you cannot connect to the internet. (all other windows services can be fully blocked)
Now klick on systemdnsclient and block connections that you don't trust, for example:
go.microsoft.com
ctldl.windowsupdate.com
services.gfe.nvidia.com (block this if using an nvidia GPU, even if you use nvcleanstall)
There should not be many connections to block if you used https://privacy.sexy 10 to cleanup windows.
➤ 11 Install a trusthworthy VPN, for example ProtonVPN or Mullvad (They have a free plan and are based in switzerland)
If you are currently using one of these, nordvpn, expressvpn, surfshark, you're making a big mistake. These providers are known to share your data with advertising companys and law enforcement.
They also use google trackers and analytics, source:
why not to use nordvpn
why not to use surfshark
why not to use expressvpn
why protonvpn is probably much better

Obviously as you will do almost all of these steps offline you will have to downloaded all the software beforehand and copy it to an offline drive which you can access without any internet connection.
A usbdrive would be enough.
Software that is generally recommended and you should use because https://privacy.sexy 10 will delete all preinstalled garbage apps.

If you wish to delete certain parts of windows or take ownership of them which by default your administratoraccount has no access to, use NSudo which is an extremely powerfull windows admin-tool that lets you take full control over windows.
https://github.com/M2TeamArchived/NSudo/releases/download/6.2/NSudo_6.2.1812.31_All_Binary.zip
Examples of what you should delete with nsudo: (No deleting those won’t break anything, renaming also works)

upfc.exe

CompPkgSrv.exe
mobsync.exe

https://github.com/M2TeamArchived/NSudo/releases/download/6.2/NSudo_6.2.1812.31_All_Binary.zip
Examples of what you should delete with nsudo: (No deleting those won’t break anything, renaming also works)
smartscreen.exe
upfc.exe
Compatibility Telement.exe
CompPkgSrv.exe
mobsync.exe
GameBarPresenceWriter.exe
microsoftedge

I don't use Windows, only Linux, but I thought this looked interesting. The bloatware decreases are crazy. Do you think this would work running in VirtualBox (I know VBox is proprietary, but at least cut down on how much spyware is on Windows)? The only time I do use Windows is on Linux to flash phones with Odin like this.

Yes the same steps described here work with virtualbox.
Odin should work offline, so you can disable the checkmark "networkadapter" in virtualbox to cut the entire os from accessing the internet.
Or you could install portmaster to block microsoft from spying on your vm.
As described above there's a setting to block all connections by default, use that and only allow programs to access the network that you trust or need.
All in all, debloating is great for performance and privacy, but if you are just after privacy then portmaster should be the only thing you need (simplewall is another great option and they can be used together), ps: portmaster also supports linux.

Yes, I just installed PortMaster and it's amazing. Thanks!
Bumping this so more people will see and benefit from it.
Needless to say ANY windows users should install portmaster from safing.io, a must have.

Perhaps I should make tutorial on switching from Windows to Linux as well. Although I'm probably not the best for that, seeing as how I haven't used Windows. Oh well.
