[New App] NaviShop- Shop while you Drive! - General Marketing & SEO

Hi people!
I just published an application "NaviShop- Shop while you Drive" in Play Store.
The idea is niche and I've not quite found anything exact that this app does. Still, I'm facing trouble getting downloads (11 downloads in all!).
Here's the description:
-------------------------------------
Got a lot of errands to run?
And having trouble with choosing and remembering the places where you can get them done?
Not sure of the routes to take?
Sit back and drive while this app handles it all for you!
> Start with Creating a list of Tasks you need to complete. Say,
1. Get a Bouquet for girlfriend
2. Buy Beer for party
3. Get Groceries
4. Get Gas in the car
> Save and select "Synchronize"!
With the click of a button, the app will start synchronizing with your location in real-time and keep suggesting you the Shops/Places where you can get a Nice Bouquet for your girlfriend or Buy Beer for the party!
> We show you the Distance to each shop, so you could conveniently go to the nearest shop.
> Worried about the traffic?
Don't! Because, the app enables you to Navigate to the Shop/Place you select with Traffic View (Google Navigation).
> Not sure if the Shop will be Open or Closed at this time?
The app shows you the real-time Status of the place. (Open or Closed)
> When you have run an errand out of your list, just select the Task and select "Mark Completed" and we'll stop nagging you with suggestions for this task in future.
> Conveniently manage (Edit, Delete) your Lists.
So, why wait?! Put on some music, drive and let us worry about your tasks!

App Review Exchange
Hi,
Hope you doing good. Your App is really interesting. I was wondering if we can do a 'Review Exchange' on Google play for each others App. I have recently launched a very interesting and Innovative App that will very much change the way we use Apps on our smartphones. My App is titled as 'Hipscan'.
Google Play Link: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bobby.hipscan
Do let me know if you agree for a Review Exchange. I will Review your App in-turn on Google play and it will help in increased ratings.

What do you want? (Developing Silverlight App)

It looks like the future of applications for Windows Mobile is leaning towards silverlight 2. So My goal for this summer is to create a good, fun or useful application using silver light. I just need some ideas. What do you guys want?
One app I've been looking for for years. Some apps have some functionality but nothing puts it together in a simple package.
Location Aware Reminders
set up points on a map where a reminder of user defined text would pop up when the device is within a specified distance from that point.
Case #1:
I get off of my freeway exit going home, pass the stoplight before the store, my device plays a recording "DUDE! PICK UP SOME MILK!".
Case #2:
I drive away from my house on a vacation, my device plays a recording "Did you remember to pack your underwear?"
User should be able to:
1. View a map with current location based on gps.
2. Move map to different locations.
3. Define and save a point on the map.
4. Define a distance from that point where reminder would fire.
5. Define the text of a reminder.
6. Define an audio file as a reminder.
7. Define a title for reminder
8. View list of reminders
9. When reminder fires there should be a Snooze and Delete Option.
10. Reminders should have a date/time window of when to fire.
10 ex. All Days, only between 4pm and 7pm.
10 ex. On May 25th. any time.
Yes, there are apps that "sort of" do this. But they are unuseable for this use.
Keeping the functionality simple and specific will ensure EASE OF USE and actual functionality.
I will GLADLY pay you $10 for this app.

Would it use GPS or the GSM/3G Network to determine location? Also what navigation software would this use for the maps? This is a good idea however this seems very intermediate. More ideas people.
I'd like this...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=426089
I would hope it would use the internal GPS.
I like the voice mail thing Like the iPhones right?
It would be nice if my wife could easily make entries via a website or a client on her desktop. (maybe not).
Actually, it would be kinda interesting. Driving down the street and having the app pop up something my friend put in there.
So you could have a group, and allow people to post GPS Pop Ups to your app.
"This is where I proposed to my wife".
"Don't even bother coming to the game tonight sucka cuz you're goin' down".
That would be kinda fun.
Just thinking out loud.

This is a great Idea. Only problem it is not even close to easy and I have no gps experience. But i might assemble a team to create this.
An XDA-Developers forum program that tracks your threads and alerts you when there's a new post, etc. Something that would be cooler than the actual site, and if you could, make it for our phones too.
This is very easy to answer:
1) To the date there isn't a SINGLE mobile e-mail client on the market, which is SIMPLE and FINGER FRIENDLY. In fact, there isn't any finger friendly e-mail clients at all. I think hords of users would welcome this kind of app.
2) Also there still isn't an on-demand connection chooser - look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=408243
Thank You.

Wow. I had the exact same idea. I'll be making this in silverlight/xaml since I know it's the future of WinMo.
Me and a couple of friends are trying to do this on 3 different platforms - and will be using WPF/Silverlight for WinMo
Don't we kinda need the WM Silverlight runtime first? Last time I checked, it's not out yet.

@ Sean D:
About #2. You remember back in the dial-up days when You started Internet Explorer it had an option whether to ask the connection to use or not? Well, I think for PPC and the apps that need internet connection this would be the ideal solution - if You start PIE for example, the system will ask You whether You'd like to use WiFi or GPRS or whatever else connections You have and You'd just check the option that suites You the most at the given location. If You're in a cafe with free WiFi You'd choose to use WiFi, if You're in the woods You'd choose GPRS (or 3G or whatever similar). Instead of manually connecting to desired network before launching browser. I hope You get the idea...
G-profile is not asking You how to connect, it just manages Your connections with profiles for different occasions. You'd still have to manually choose a profile with the desired connections before launching a browser.
Ha!

Okay, I misunderstood you. But the funny thing is, i was just thinking that WM needs this function the other day.
So yeah, this gets my vote too.
Good, then it's settled
Well, OK, just one minor issue left - kinda have to wait for the approval from the thread starter too

The whole point of this thread is that since it's pretty much confirmed there will be a silverlight or some type of WPF subset for WinMo, applications can be designed so that when devices do release, some changes can be made (e.g. support for accelerometer) so that the program can be released from the get-go.
It's also to provide devs with some practice with WPF/Silverlight

I could care less about how it's written....I got $10 burnin a whole in my pocket for this app...
BTW...did you read my post about the community part of the app?
OK, seems it's again just one of those countless threads that get started with a big hooray and then is forgotten forever. I mean I still do post in these in hope that someone will some day build the connection manager I keep asking for, but having posted it already to couple of threads and seeing that after couple of days the thread just dies and the original author of thread mysteriously disappears, I think there are some dark forces behind it. OK, just kidding, but seriously, just from top of my head You can check this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=413600 - or this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=506672. They have all died as far as I know. Or if You just wanna have a laugh (completely off-topic) check this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=425424

Vlingo Android Beta Test Opportunity
New SuperDialer Product Testing
Hello Android Users,
Thanks for volunteering to be part of our Android test crew! We have a new beta launching and hoped you might be able to lend a hand.
How Can You Help Us Out?
This beta is focused on a new product, codenamed "SuperDialer." It's even cooler than it sounds, if that's even possible. It really is a pioneering product that allows you to call any business, anywhere, anytime, just by speaking a few words to Vlingo. After that, you can review ratings, get directions, call with just one-click - just about anything you would need.
We would appreciate it if you focused your testing and feedback on this specific product. Sure, if something else jumps out at you, we're always happy to get your thoughts. But the new functionality is really all around SuperDialer, and that's what we could use your perspective in fine tuning before the public release.
Be thinking of things like:
How useful is this in my everyday life? Is the user experience easy and intuitive? How does this compare to other stuff on the market? What else would be great to include? Is there anywhere SuperDialer breaks down?
Of course the application still has all the same functionality of previous versions - send texts and emails, update Twitter, search the web, voice dial friends from your address book, etc. So please feel free to use those as you normally would. We just want to focus your feedback on the new SuperDialer product.
When Would You Use SuperDialer?
Short answer
Any time you need to make a phone call to a business that isn't already in your address book.
Long answer
Friends in town and you want to make dinner reservations at your favorite joint, but don't have the number handy?
SuperDialer.
(Tap & Speak: "Call Toro")
Desperate for General Tso while in an unfamiliar neighborhood?
SuperDialer. (Tap & Speak: "Chinese food")
Forgot your sister's birthday and need a flower shop near her apartment for a quick delivery?
SuperDialer. (Tap & Speak: "Find a flower shop on Greenwich Ave in Manhattan")
How Do I Install Vlingo?
*** Note: Must have OS 2.0 or 2.1 to Download ***
1. Check the Unknown Sources item in Settings > Applications
This is required since Vlingo this version of Vlingo is not yet available in Android Market
2. Please be sure to uninstall all versions of Vlingo before you download the new beta.
Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Vlingo > Click uninstall button
3. To install the beta:

UFO sighting app

I think this is a great idea:
http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread662169/pg1
I have an idea for a UFO Sightings App that I want to share with you all. I'm sharing it because I have zero intention of making it. I don't have the skill or the money to it. I am sharing this with you because I would like to see it get made. I want no compensation in any form for this idea.
So here is the idea: Want to see a UFO? Yeah? Here is an app for that...
When someone with this app sees a UFO he/she must quickly open the app and hit the "Report A UFO Sighting In Progess" button. This would open a scroll menu that gives the witness different options that would help describe what is being seen. ie, saucer, glowing orbs, unknown aircraft, chemtrail, planet x...Once selected another scroll menu would pop up asking estimated altitude ie, 0-1000ft.,1000-10,000ft, 10,000ft-40,000ft., space...One last scroll menu would pop up asking the UFOs direction of travel ie, north, south, east, west, static. Once this info has been given the app switches over to the phones built in camera or video. The app will place an overlay or HUD that gives information on the screen and is recorded as the witness films the event. The information displayed would include direction/heading, time/date, inclination, as well as a timecode stamp to each frame of footage. When the witness stops recording, a button type option will appear asking "Do you wish to stop recording this sighting?" If "yes" is clicked a copy of the sighting is immediatley sent to the "UFOster (or whatever you name the app) Website."
Clicking "No" would bring back the phones camera. One last menu option would be "UFO Sighting Advise." This gives tips on what to do, how to film, what to show, and other info to best capture the UFO.
Here is what makes this App really cool. As soon as the UFO witness answers the three questions, after selecting the report button, an alert goes out IMMEDIATELY to ANYONE who has the app on their phone. So if you have the app you'd recieve a message that would say "ATTENTION! Glowing orbs have been reported __ miles from your location (amount of miles from you based on the witnesses location detected by the phones GPS) and is heading __ (the direction reported by the witness) at an altitude of __ (based on which option the witness choose). This message would then ask if you would like to open "UFOster?"(or whatever you name the app)
When you open the app from the alert message prompt it takes you straight to the phones camera/video with a different overlay or HUD. This HUD has all the same info as a original witness would have but with the addition of a small red arrow that points you in the direction of the reported event. This makes it easy for the directionally challeged to know where to look. Once you start recording you become a new witness and your footage is sent to the website once you stop. This will help stop CGI trickery to help limit hoaxing.
Safegaurds against hoaxing should include limiting the distrobution of the app to people 17 years of age and older. A user rating system and "report hoax/bogus alert" option should be included in the app. Users who have been reported as hoaxers will not have their reports distributed.
Customization options should allow the user to decide the radius of sighting alerts. For example, someone may choose to only recieve alerts within a 30 mile radius. App users may also report a sighting that is no longer in progress in which alerts are not sent out to the app community. The option to be alerted of only specific types of UFOs should be available as well.
The purpose of this app is to gather more witness, more footage, and more camera angles of UFO events. This would greatly increase the chances of putting to rest the age old question, are we alone? Imagine, if a UFO sighting happened in Los Angeles, seen by a witness with this app and we had a few thousand people with it on their phones in the area. Imagine the footage you might get! Imagine the traffic to your website when everyone comes to see the collection from the event.
Thanks for reading. I hope someone out there makes this!
Best of luck,
Quantum D.

Would someone be interested in creating an app for UFO sightings?
That's a great idea, except you would need some server with lots of storage for all those videos and a good connection for it which won't be cheap.
I can't help you out now though, I'm taking a java course this semester so down the road perhaps.
Sweet idea. I could have used it a couple of times. The video storrage can be your google account linked to youtube. Pictures can be shared via p2p. If someone starts this app, I will donate time and money.
Really great idea. I have to say you did a fantastic job. please share and update any progress.
soo...whats is going with the app?

[Q] New Omnia 7 owner - recommended apps? Tips?

I've got a Samsung Omnia 7 coming my way this week and it already has WinPho 7.5 on it. I own an Android phone and I won't likely be changing from that but I am very interested in what WinPho has to offer. With that said can anyone recommend some good apps and offer any tips on things that annoyed or frustrated when you first got your handset? Specifically I'm thinking of anything that might be simple on others phones but took you a while to find like a setting or some toggle option.
I'm really liking the idea of the unified messaging where you go from SMS to Facebore etc all without leaving the screen. Any other things that I should look forward to?
Thats the thing about WP, you really dont need any apps. If you have an unlocked device however, there are a few interesting apps here on xda.
Well It’s kind of hard to recommend you app's when you’re not from the Netherlands (since allot of app's that I use every day are Dutch). App's that are handy to have are the xda app, autopanorama, advanced config, windows phone device manager 1.7 (when your Omnia is unlocked), battery status and flashlight-x
Some games are really fun to play are; farm frenzy 2, OMG, rocket riot and tentacles
Welcome to WP7 Hope you enjoy using it, I personally love the Me and People hubs and like you mentioned the messaging integrated with FB chat! Put my favourite/most used/most useful apps etc. below to give you some ideas and also the more technical side if you're willing to get into that. Very easy to do and allows you more freedom for apps and hacks. You mentioned problems - the only one I have ever had which was very annoying was the in-call sound wasn't loud enough. I posted the fix below enjoy
Apps
Amazon Kindle - Kindle ebooks.
Apict - Polaroid
Baconit - Reddit
BBC News Mobile - News.
Convert2Go - Currency & measurement conversion.
Face Mask - By Microsoft Research. Add funny effects to your photos. (You'll love this and your girlfriend/kids even more so.)
Flashlight 7 - Perfect flashlight app. Constant LED.
Flixster - Movies app w/ Rotten Tomatoes.
The Guardian - News.
The Hype - Trending music app.
Metro - News.
MyEncyclopedia - Wikipedia.
NAVIGON - Very good SatNav.
Stop the Music! - When opened it removes any "Now playing" songs from the volume bar.
SkyDrive - By Microsoft. SkyDrive online storage.
Suggestion Box - By Microsoft. Make suggestions for improving WP7! You can vote up suggestions too. I urge you to download this for all our benefit
TipIt - For when you need to split a bill between friends.
TuneIn Radio - Excellent radio app.
WPCentral - WP7 news. Good app.
XDA
Games
Breeze, Minesweeper, Shuffle Party, Sudoku (free Microsoft games)
geoDefense - Addictive tower defence with a Geometry Wars feel.
ilomilo - Cute 3D puzzle game from Xbox.
Plants vs Zombies - On par with Angry Birds for quality and much more interesting.
Tiki Towers
Bejeweled LIVE
Fruit Ninja
Settings
Turn camera shutter sound off in ringtones+sounds
Battery Saver is the best thing ever invented, turn it on!
Set brightness to Low rather than auto, it's bright enough and saves a ton of battery life.
In pictures+camera settings you can choose whether to take pictures by pressing the screen. I do this because it then attempts to focus on what you pressed. Also whether when the phone is locked you can launch the camera using the h/w button.
Choose a background for your picture hub by hitting the three dots at the bottom right. Can also shuffle.
If you have more than one email account, you can link them together into one tile and inbox. When you send a new msg it will ask you what account. Love this. To do it go into one of your email tiles, hit the three dots and there should be an option to link.
Hacks
Sound Volume Fix
1. Open the diagnostic app by calling ##634#. From now on there will be a Diagnosis app on your App list.
2. Type *#0002*28345# to get to the Audio menu.
3. Locate the last option named “Device Gain (max/min)”, hereafter called profile, and select which volume to adjust in the first field (2 for call ear speaker, 5 for headphones, 7 for back speaker)
4. Push “Get”.
5. Input these values. [Profile 2] [Profile 5] [Profile 7]
5. Push “Set” after each one.
7. Exit Diagnosis and restart your phone.

Developer unlock (allows you to sideload any apps you want and perform some more effective hacks!)
You can get a free unlock from Microsoft if you are a student.
If not you can pay a tiny fee and get a officially supported unlock here through Chevron Labs. UPDATE: Tokens for Chevron unlocks have run out for the time being.
It's all very easy and completely safe.
Internet Sharing and Interop Unlock
Installs new option in settings menu for turning your phone into a WiFi! Interop unlock is included and that allows sideloaded apps to utilise native code. Very useful.
Instructions here.
Sideload/homebrew apps (can be installed once developer unlocked and some need interop unlock.)
Supreme Shortcuts - add tiles to go straight to WiFi for example.
Screen capturer
ImageWind - nice timewaster
Tango video call
Wario's Jewels - Gameboy emulator
Advanced Configuration - deserves to be in bold. This app contains a whole bunch of useful tweaks and allows for new theme colours and sounds.
I am using:
Handysafe (also with Desktop client)
Geocaching from Groundspeak - not perfect but there is no c:geo on WP7
Amazon Kindle
Amazon Hunter
Board express for Tapatalk
facebook
Mobiletag
MySPC 2011 (Sharepoint)
Schnelle Übersetzer (english - german)
Angry Birds
Bejeweled
Fable Coin Golf
Harbor Master
Bubble Birds

Oh wow.. so much for being notified about updates to this thread! Thanks for all the suggestions, if only I'd read about the Chevron unlock sooner I'd be a much happier user. Unfortunately by the time I realised how great a deal it was and how useful it would be they'd sold out of tokens. I'm hoping they will get some more in the future or I'm gonna be stuck with what MS choose to allow and that feels far too much like Apple's world for my comfort.
I've taken a look at the volume profiles, so far the only sound I'd wanted to change was the headphone volume but now that's done. I'm gonna take a look at some of the apps mentioned, already got Apict though since I loved how it was when I tried it.
I hardly use phone for anything else than game development, texting and calling.
oh, and I use "Endomondo Sports Tracker" frequently when I go hiking
I think it is the best App beside my games

I've heard of this new one, I'll need to try it
Hi guys. I've asked this on another forum but I didn't get any answer so far, so I'm asking here too. Being a new omnia 7 owner too, I think this thread is good enough.
So:
"Does anyone know how can I sync Hotmail contacts with my Omnia 7? Here's why I'm asking:
As you probably know, the contact pictures that come from syncing with Google are pixelated and look horrible. Why they didn't fix this so far is beyond me.
I've noticed that if I create a new contact, the phone asks where to "save" it, Windows Live or Google. If I select Live and then assign a picture to that contact, it has the same quality, so it's much better than Google. However, I don't want to manually create all the contacts, so I went into the account settings and unchecked the "Contacts" option in the Google "what to sync" section. The Live account doesn't have this option, only "Email" - why is that?!
To my surprise, the People section only shows 3-4 contacts after I unchecked that option! I really don't know why, because on Hotmail I have all my contacts listed, so I assumed they'll be synced with the phone.
So, what would be the best and fastest way to do this? Or some other workaround for the contact images problem...at least until Google finally fixes this mess...
Thank you. "

Hiya mate,
Sorry it's not the answer you're looking for - I have no idea!
I understand the problem. Don't know why Hotmail can't sync more than mail.
If you have some way of getting them onto Outlook that could be the way to go.
Other than that, best to ask here.
Good luck

My First Android App - Released to the market - Named "PicAround" :)

Hi Guys,
I have just released a new app for the Android users.
I am an excited entrepreneur/developer, worked and developed the App all by myself
The app is free and I would like the world to enjoy it
I am posting here for 2 reason.
The Obvious one: to reach out! :fingers-crossed:
But the more important one:
I would love your feedback and notes and maybe some tips for how to get it out there with no budget
All of my friends are already running "alpha" for me on their personal devices.... but it`s only the tip of the iceberg from a technical point of view.
So this is where you guys come to the rescue :highfive:
So.... some details:
My App is Named: “PicAround”.
Basically PicAround is a "Mobile Camera App That Instantly Shares Everyone’s Event Pictures"
The App tries to reduce the hassle of getting your pictures from other people that were present at the event as you did. no need for emails Facebook, Dropbox, etc,
and it is easy to use:
Step 1. Select the event your are at from a list of local events (GPS Based)
Step 2. Capture the moment with the PicAround camera!
Everybody’s pictures taken at the event will be saved to a shared album instantly!
I believe it will match perfectly for large scale events, such as weddings, concerts, football games and so on..
You can find it on the app store:
Just search "PicAround"
I will also post a blog post soon enough about the process of developing the app - the server side.... tools and so on....
Hope you give it a try and like it
Hi there,
Nice idea! Congrats for the work.
My remarks:
1) Why do you force your users to use Facebook?
1.1) App opened and the first thing that poped up was Facebook login screen. I closed it and then.... that's it. I couldn't do anything else with the app. Just saw the logo. Had to leave the app and come back again to,, again, see the Facebook screen.
1.2) I was shown the Facebook login screen, asking to entenr my e-mail and password. I do have Facebook installed in my phone, so I would expect just to press OK and seamlessly log into Facebook, without having to enter my credentials... are you using API 3.0?
Give me a shout if you need some help with point 1.2, I have implemented it.
I left you rating/review to support ya
Cheers and good luck!
Ps: Dont forget to update this post with links do Google Play and Screenshots when you have 10+ messages in this Forum

Hi, thanks for the relay and remarks:
I would like to respond to some of your remarks and maybe you will have some tip for me.
The events are public, meaning: all people at the area of the event can take pictures (currently there are no restriction).
So the least I am doing is to display a layout over the image with the name of the person who took it.
If I would create my own unique login mechanism (leaving the technical Burden aside) - users will be able to pick an unreal name - which I think is unfair to the users with real names
I could add login with google or some other login sdks available - do you think it will make it better? would you like to login with a different network instead?
In addition - In the future - I could use the social goodies Facbook offers (with the user approval of course) Which I would not be able to do without.
Currently (and in the future) I am not doing anything "bad" with the user info - only using it to display his name over his pictures at the event album.
As for SDK 3.0 - I was trying to use it - but is seems to fail - probably because the new SDK does not support android 2.1(update) versions (SDK < 8 not support) - it is not official (or at least I could not find a reference for it) - so I submitted a defect to Facebook about that.
(cannot post the url for the defect yet - 8 more to go - but I can email it if needed.)
I do not want to leave 2.1 behind as long as I have the option (my phone is 2.1 nexus one!! )
Would love any tips about this issue. (I have tried hard to use the native sdk).
about the timing of when to popup the facebook login screen...
If I would not do that immediately - then there is a chance that exactly at the moment the user is trying to take a picture - I would have to popup the login screen - sound bad to me.
(On the other hand - I am pretty sure - nobody will have his first try of the app - during an event - he would probably try it at home first).
What do you think about this? should I postpone the login screen to a later time? or maybe I could show an explanation to the user before the login, for the reasons I want her/him to login with facebook?
Again thanks for the replay and the Google Play review
Nice!
