Cannot change the font for HDX - Kindle Fire HDX 7" & 8.9" General

I tried to change the Japanese font for HDX(the default one is so ugly)like what I did on other android devices before but I failed.
My HDX is already rooted and get SuperSU and RootExplorer installed, but I cannot mount r/w system/fonts folder so the fonts pasting failed, however other folders in /system can be mounted r/w without any problems.
Could anyone tell me the reason?

Maybe you could try and use some other browser for mounting r/w?

root explorer problem switching mount ro/rw

hey,
I am trying to do the WPA suplicant file swap but I cannot get swap to stick. I paste the new file over the original but nothing changes. The file still reads Oct 14th when the new one should read nov 28.
The problem seems to be the inability to change mount r/o to mount r/w/. I can only click the Mount rab when I am in the first folder. As soon as I click on the System folder the Mount button greys out and does nothing.
When I try to delete the original WPA file it comes back as soon as I leave the folder, if I copy the new one over the old one the old one remains.
any ideas?
btw: sprint Tab
Exact same problem here, Root Explorer had served me well on other Android devices but this time, no go. There must be some extra protection on the tab, not sure how to defeat it...
I presume you are rooted, and the Superuser app shows that Root Explorer has been granted root privileges?
Regards,
Dave
^ Thanks for for tip.
I have been experiencing the same problems with my Captivate...couldn't get Root Explorer to mount as R/W. Took a look at Superuser and sure enough Root Explorer was not being granted the permissions. So went into recovery and re-rooted and after reboot it was good to go...Root Explorer was listed as one of the apps in Superuser that had been granted permissions and I was able to mount as R/W.
I know that I have a Captivate and not a Galaxy Tab, but this is subject related and just wanted to share my learning experience and appreciation for the help from others even when searching outside of my device forum.

[Q] How to replace files in filesystem

Hello,
i need some help.. the gps in my phone takes alot time to lock(?)...
someone created a gps.conf to replace the original file in system folder.. however i cannot replace the file neither edit it (i have root and tried it with ES Explorer)..
am i doing anything wrong? and how can i access the filesystem by usb? i tried booting the phone with power+vol up/down.. but there (pink screen) no drive was mounted..
thanks and sorry for possible english errors!
if you are using ES File Explorer, you need enable 'root' option and 'mount / /system as read/write' option to replace the gps.conf file
I have same problem.
I had rooted and flashed CW to get 2.2.1 -> Official 2.3 -> ICS
But on step 2. what needs to root and CW to get ICS it is impossible to get the system rooted and flashed again.
When going with + - on boot to magenta screen, Windows (Or Linux) does not recognize any drives to be mounted. Were there a external MicroSD card in slot or not.
I have now rooted device two different way and both say that device is rooted. Even the phone itself says that it is rooted. But no sudo is working so I can not even enable SE Manager root functions or to re-mount any partition as read-write mode because applications does not have root rights.

[Q] Ics 4.0.3 rooted but unable to copy to system/fonts

Hello,
Thank you for helping me solve this problem. I am completely new to android.
I needed to install Indic fonts on acer a500. I used Blackthund3r's Easy tool to root ICS 4.0.3. But then when I try to copy the fonts into system/fonts on the device the copy always fails. I have tried Root Explorer, EZ File Browzer, etc.
What am I doing wrong? Ofcourse the rooting tool is successful in rooting the device... at least it says so. And I set the file system in the a500 root tool app to RW. But the copy still fails.
TIA.

You have root access but your system folder is still on read only. You need to set permissions to RW.
if using root explorer go to the folder you wanna copy from or to and click the grey box at the top saying "mount -rw" you will then be able to copy.
its like setting a windows file from read only to read, write, delete
Going from memory, but I think I remember reading that Blackthund3r only gives half root. You may not be able to mount the system folder as rw the usual way.
But Blackthund3r should have also installed an app called A500 Remount. If you have it, open and you will see an option to set system to mount r/w.
Then you should be able to paste what you need. After that, r/w permission will last until your next reboot. After reboot you'll need to use A500 Remount again if you need to access /system again.
Good luck...

How to Edit build.prop file in Nexus 4

Hi ,
i like to install My galaxy app in my Mako running on lollipop - unable to edit build.prop tried multiple tools.
Can some one help me to edit the file .
Thanks in advance
You need root, and a root file manager like root explorer from play store. Mount the /system partition as r/w, open the file, make changes, and then save and set the partition back to r/o.

Can't seem to make write changes to system

EDIT: Fixed by flashing latest factory images via fastboot, then the latest TWRP, then MagiskSU.
Hi there,
I'm rooted on stock 7.1.1 but I can't seem to make write changes consistently on the system partition. I was trying to rename NotoColorEmoji.ttf in /system/fonts so I could copy across the version with the iOS emojis, and somehow the rename worked so it's now named NotoColorEmojiOld.ttf - I managed to do this with root permissions in Solid Explorer. However, when I try and copy across the new NotoColorEmoji.ttf to the fonts folder, Solid Explorer says it's unable to do so. I've tried rebooting into TWRP, mounting system and using the file manager but it fails with Error 1. What's worse is I can't seem to rename NotoColorEmojiOld.ttf back to NotoColorEmoji.ttf either - neither Solid Explorer nor TWRP work for this despite both obviously having root access, both throw errors. As a result I have no emoji font file so all my emojis are blank boxes.
Any help in fixing this would be appreciated!
Try flashing a zip version of notocolor in twrp

Are you using either phh superuser or magisksu?
Try changing your SELinux to Permissive with this app https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2524485

Nope, just plain old systemless SuperSU.

For some reason the app claims I don't have root permission despite the SuperSU dialog popping up and me granting it root.

Selinux didn't work for me at first on 7.1.1, I got the same error as you. But I went into twrp made sure system mounted, go into twrp terminal and cd into /system/bin and /system/xbin and in both of these directories type in (touch su) with out parenthesis. Reboot and see if that makes selinux changer works now.

That got the app working and I was able to change SELinux to permissive, but I still can't make lasting changes to /system unfortunately.
Bumping - anyone else have any ideas? I'm not so much concerned with not being able to change emoji fonts as I am concerned with the ramifications of not having system write access - if anything breaks or comes up in the future that I need rw system for, I won't be able to fix stuff unless I sort this out.
