Tips on how to save some battery! - One (M7) General

Heyy, so i figured out how to get a better battery life off of your htc one device! If you go under settings>apps>all, and disable the ones you DONT use as much or at ALL it will help out a whole lot. I also only use the power saver option, i keep sleep mode turned off...
I have also posted a picture of what my battery usually is from day to day...
Would love to find out what everyone else does to save battery!

[Q] Very High Power Consumption Android On HD2

Hi,
Ive recently installed Android 2.2 Froyo on an SD card on my HD2 and the battery is going down so quick... it wasnt great in Windows mobile but now I'm struggling to get it to last all day...
I'm saying to myself this cant be normal, I'm also trying a Samsung Galaxy S and the battery is so much better!!
Is there anyway I can improve the battery power on my HD2, I know in a HD2 the battery is a 1350mah and the Galaxy S is a 1500mah battery.
Should that make such a difference?
I'm considering going back to Win Mobile but dont really want to but havent got any other choice if the battery carrys on like this....
I also notice the screen and back get really quite warm... I suppose Android is making the system work harder?!?!?!
Its safe to say that you havent read any of the threads about battery life.
Before you say I did a search and didnt find anything Ive already typed in battery in search and found a bunch of threads.
Now what you need to do is find out why its running so warm.
It could be the kernal version you are using.
Ways to improve battery life are using setcpu and underclocking. A lot of members use current widget as a method to see when High drain is occuring.
In sleep mode you should be seeing less than 10ma. If you dont see less then this there is a problem.
Set current widget to 1 min intervals.
Dont use task killers they dont help anything no matter what anyone says.
Dont compare the captivate to the hd2. 2 different phones.
I am using mccm 1.5 customize, and CurrentWidget shows 5mA on standby which I think is good enough. Sometimes, it shows 60mA on standby in a while and my battery drains very fast, even I use Advanced Task Killer but it does not help. I have to reboot the phone to get it back to 5mA on standby.
Anyone has any idea of what may cause my standby power that high (60mA)?
Thanks.

Thanks for your tips for better battery life. I was curious about a few things and hope you could clarify a few things for me and some instruction or threads on how to do so. And yes I have searched, that's the first thing I always do before I do anything web based as far as positng.
1. How do you setcpu and underclocking?
2. How do you find the amount of battery that standby takes? i.e. 60mA? How do you get to that setting in android?
Thanks for your help in advance.
Setcpu is an app used to control your cpu speed.

To check ma's use (current widget)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=776085
long press on the desktop and apply current widget. It will ask you if you want to create a log. Create a log for 1 min intervals. Put the phone to sleep and leave it for a good 5 mins.
You can then open the log file usint astro file manager and check your drainage while sleep.
One thing I found is that If i am having high drain i turn my gps on and restart then it usually settles down and I can turn the gps off.
If you have apps that are syncing you will a higher than normal drain during those times the apps sync. if you set your apps to sync at longer intervals the amount of batter drain will be unnoticable.
I have major battery ocd. I constantly check my battery and have to force myself not to look but still use my phone as any normal person would.
I can pull more than 12 hours easy!
Thanks hazard99!
The first time I ran android I don't think I've had any battery issues and now that I'm looking at the percent on my homescreen Im beginning to feel battery OCD too. It's like I lose 1% atleast every 15 minutes when I look at my screen. But I did take and apply all the tips you told me and I do see that it only uses 5ma when screen is off. I truely don't understand. :/
Stop looking at your screen. Stop worrying. The more you look the more juice you use while the screen is on. There will be more points where the phone is off.

Ive also been trying to investigate this, my standby drain is usually 60+ mA, and during use it jumps to the 200's, strange stuff indeed....For you to have 5mA, lol i wish that was for me too =/

What radio and wm are you using? Do you use SetCPU?
I had high battery consumption, too. But now I found something interesting...
Due I'm not allowed to post links, yet, search for the post with topic:
[SOLUTION] Possible solution for heavy battery drainage.
With this fix: over night I only lost 20% instead of 59% of battery.
uninstall SetCPU

im using the same radio as you (2.10), energycookie rom 21916, and my setcpu is at interactive 245/729, and for sleep its at 245/384, hastarin kernal.
Use a Battdrv.dll from older HD2 ROM 1.48 Etc. I'm not sure if you recmod the module and replace the current one in Windows if you will get the same benefit as if you cooked the driver in.
i just updated my kernal to the latest zimage in mattc's froyosense's evo tree, and my standby is around 6-11 ma now, guess that solved some issues lol, anyone know whats the normal operating ma power consumption for texting?
EDIT: Now when i try to enable wifi i simply get "error", did i mess up on something? =/
EDIT: Solved above problem. WOOT!

[Q] Battery and WP7

So i went with WP7 on the HD2 and love it.
The only issue i seem to have is the fact that the battery is draining pretty fast. It was full this morning and its only been 6 hours and its at what appears to be 30% (its hard to tell without percent icon)
I installed the xmod rom.
Is this normal? is there a fix? I see lots of things when i do search on registry fixes, but i dont know much, if anything about registry editing this rom nor what it means.
Any advice is apreciated.
Battery drainage is a common issue. You could try some regediting and see if that helps. Just search around the forum to find out how to do it.
Is this drainage going to screw up the battery? I have a spare, just prefer not to have to waste a good battery
On my phone I've found no difference with battery drainage...
check this out:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1041912
At the first release from DFT, i had a batterylifetime from 6 up to 7 hours as a maximum.
Now i will test a newer ROM, so i would tell ya!

[Q] i9505 battery draining overnight

Hi
i don't particularly have problems with the battery life of my s4, but sometimes i get weird drains, like 25% overnight. The weird thing is i deactivate every toggle except for flight mode and battery saving mode. I thought it's rather peculiar that my battery drains in what in my opinion should be like the most battery friendly mode i could think of.. anyone any suggestions on how to solve this? On the first picture i dont really complain about the first 2 drops because that could be caused by gaming, but maybe it's in there too, the last one however is with all toggles off from a certain point (you can see my wifi and screen turn off), but there isn't really a change in steepness of dropping... the second picture is my toggle setup. Any help would be appreciated

I have exactly same problem! Any ideas?
well as always... first check your wakelocks with better battery stats (free on xda forums).
i had a drain over night too. even on my s2.
it was my routers fault... bought a new one and drain is fixed.
but maybe it's just an app for you which gets your phone out of stand by. so check out better battery stats
Same here. Already used better battery stats. Nothing suspicious which could've drained the battery that much
Send from my Galaxy S4 packed with awesomeness

tips on how to improve and calibrate your battery

Some people get battery life less than others and the simplest most common answer is the battery calibration. There are so many other reasons to take into account from having defective unit to what are you using your phone for. people spending more time on light apps such as simple chat app will get alot more screen on time compared to other who spend more time playing heavy 3D HD games. Additionally, wifi, 3G/4G, GPS, auto sync, bluetooth, NFC and brightness of the screen will have an impact on the battery life thus screen on times, so you should take into account all of these things. Comparing screen on times is useless as you don't know what the other person was doing during the screen on times and what other things were on.
Therefore, I decided to make this topic. I saw people complaining that their screen on of there phones is alot less than others, although they have all other services off and brightness to the minimum. before going into calibrating your battery, you should check whether your phone is going into deepsleep as expected or not. If not then this is what is draining your battery, you can use wakelock apps to check if any thing you installed preventing your phone from going into deepsleep.
Apart from previous reasons, calibrating your battery could be the solution. First, you should note that you need to do this once every ~2 months (avoid doing it alot). There are so many ways to calibrate your battery, and I will mention two here:
if you are rooted:
1- run down you device's battery until it turns itself off
2- charge it until it is 100%
3- use any app from the play store to delete batterystats.bin
4- you can stop here but the following steps will speed up the calibration process
5- repeat step 1
6- charge it fully without pause
7- use your phone normally and the battery will improve in the next few days (steps 5&6 should speed it up)
if you are not rooted:
1- run down you device's battery until it turns itself off
2- charge it fully without pause
3- turn it on
4- wait few minutes
5- charge it for one hour
6- use your phone normally and the battery will improve in the next few days (repeating 1&2 should speed up the process)
if anyone has any suggestion or comments or if I made any mistake please let me know.
please hit thanks if I helped in anyway
What to do after calibrating your battery?
now you calibrated your battery, you need to understand few things to squeeze the most out of your battery. the basic answer is to monitor your battery and avoid things that drain your battery. so what uses more battery, I will but list of things that use the most battery in order (what use the most to the least). The list came from me monitoring every single one alone (it might not be accurate)
1- Processor
2- screen
now people would say that screen uses more than processor. In order to test this, charge your phone to 100% unplug it and directly play heavy HD game for 30-60 min and go and check battery stats, you will see the game no.1 then screen no.2. the problem with the processor is that when it heats up, it wastes ALOT of battery as the heat is just energy came from the battery. if you want to extend you battery life, you should start with these two as they use more battery than everything else. To make it simpler I would say 1 hour of screen on uses battery enough to keep your wifi on for >1day (and I mean wifi not the whole phone with wifi on)
Recommendations:
a- avoid using apps/games that heat your phone (most games does, but try to avoid when possible)
b- Avoid using your phone while hot (this will degrade the battery and the screen and will hurt other internals such as processor in the long run and will also waste too much battery)
c- underclock your processor if you play to much heavy games (to protect your phone from heat and extend battery life)
d- reduce the brightness will save you good few hours of use
3- auto sync
4- 3G/4G
5- wifi
I put auto sync first because in order to have working auto sync, you will need wifi or data + processor to process what are you syncing
6- GPS
GPS actually consume more battery than wifi when both are working, but the good thing about GPS is that if it is not in use even if it is on, it doesn't use battery unless it was needed to locate the phone.
Recommendation
Turn them off when not needed. There are certain apps in the play store that turn off wifi, data and auto sync when screen off then turn them back on when screen is turned on. I use tasker which does this and check for downloads before turning off wifi or data.
you are more than welcomed to add any tips or make comments or suggestions
Are you sure you are talking about Xperia Z1 and not lets say Nokia 3310? You should not overcharge modern batteries, as they dont have the memory effect. In realoty discharging it to 0% and charging to full will actualy make battery worse and cause decrease of battery life. You should also avoid charging overnight if you want to keep your battery in good condition. The best thing to do is to keep it between 15% to 85-90%, and dont let it discharge/overcharge.

I do understand what are you talking about and I do know about battery memory. But you still need to completely discharge your phone once every ~2 months for calibration purpose. But you are right about overcharging it. I will modify the main topic to make these changes, Thx

No you don't, that's completely unnecessary with modern batteries.
Also, wiping batterystats.bin just clears the info in the battery usage page in settings, it gets wiped automatically every time you charge over 90% and has nothing to do with calibrating the battery.
So much misinformation in this thread.

you could have said it in a better way. any source about what are you saying?. There are tons of sites that agree with what I said, a quick search found this
http://gizmodo.com/how-to-take-care-of-your-smartphone-battery-the-right-w-513217256/1416982678
at the end they said this
"To get the most out of a lithium-ion battery, you should try to keep it north of 50 percent as much as possible. For the most part going from all the way full to all the way empty won't help; in fact, it'll do a little damage if you do it too often. That said, it's smart to do one full discharge about once a month for "calibration," but don't do it all the time. Running the whole gamut on a regular basis won't make your battery explode or anything, but it will shorten its lifespan."
and regarding wiping batterystats.bin. There are tons of articles and apps the recommend this and so many people said that it helped them. it is not just useless because you said so, unless you have strong evidence which I want to see.
This is old advice. With the new technology batteries it is not advisable to completely empty the battery.
There is no need to "condition" the batteries and they do not suffer from "charge memory"
Plus, there is already a thread in this forum about battery handling and tips
