I am a very picky phone owner, let me just say that right away. I always have a different phone cause I need to have the latest and greatest. After having the moto x I truly feel as if this is the best overall phone out right now for me.
The s4 was just too damn big and I felt like I always need to use both hands to do anything. Sure the camera was nice but it my daily use its not as big a difference as people make it out too be. Battery was OK, but my x is way better!!
The htc one def has the nicest screen out. But unless your staring at both of these phones side by side the difference is negligible. The camera on the one was absolutely horrible no matter what the conditions! Blurry and over processed colors. Battery life was good but again the x is way better.
I think that overall for what I use the phone for, the x is gonna be with me for a while. I love the size!!! Feel perfect, a good size screen and yet I don't need two hands to always use it. The active notifications are awesome!! Screen is good for me, I'm not one to purposely stare at the screen to try and see if I can see pixels etc. Battery life is awesome, I'm easily getting 4+ hours of screen on time. The camera is not nearly as bad as most reviews report, in my findings. Yes the s4 is better but the moto x holds its own!
I'd like more dev support cause I'm a crackflasher. I'm sure it will come. But if it doesn't happen I'm OK with it because the phone is pretty much the way I'd want a ROM to be anyways.

As someone who was a hardcore flashaholic this is the first phone I've had that I don't feel the need to immediately load a new ROM onto.
Agreed - I've had tons of android phones (G1, G2, evo and evo 3d, moto backflip, droid and droid 3, galaxy S2, nexus 1, nexus S, gnex, and even the kyocera echo), but once I went to an iphone 5, I swore I'd never go back.
Once ios7 was out though, android started looking more appealing to me again. Moto X is the phone that brought me back! I've gone to the store multiple times to play with the GS4 and the HTC one, but I could never pull the trigger.
The Moto X is the phone that brought me back to android. I love it

I'm glad I'm not the only one. MOTO X is nice.
This phone with a few tweaks with Xposed is really really great. Battery is stellar. The camera is not the best however once the software is fixed it will be fine. The only thing I'm missing is t9 dialer. I'll find a way to push the CM apk.

How is the video recording? Have you used it to record any concerts with bass? I'm about to get the X in November. How does it record in comparison to the HTC One? I heard the One has really good speakers and recording.. Thanks!

I agree. I also tend to always have the latest and greatest and waffle between ios and android. Most recently I came from the HTC One Developer Edition and although I really liked that phone the Moto X is much better for me. The ergonomics are just great, not much bigger than an iphone 5, and the battery is very good. The active notifications are just brilliant and with them I rarely need to use the power button, just a quick swipe and I'm were I need to be. Killer phone.
Agreed. I had the HTC One and then the GS4 Active shortly after that and now I have the Moto X. This thing runs circles around both those phones in every regard. Don't miss a single thing about either of them.

Yeah same here. Best phone I've ever owned. I got over 5 hrs screen on today with 25% left. Came from the HTC one and no regrets. Haven't rooted Yet, probably won't. Exposed framework looks interesting though.

Im also very picky in how I like my phone look and function both hardware/software. im still waiting for my moto x to get unlocked But so far I still need a new ROM.
Need to remove att garbage
Need quick toggles to be customizable. Add WiFi tethering/ flashlight etc. Also don't like how single click takes you to the menu on a specific toggle instead holding it toggles the feature.
Would like paranoid ROM, halo is a nice feature I got used to on my nexus 4
Id settle for quick toggles fix and halo (not that I have a choice) STOP SAYING YOU DONT NEED ROMS!!
That being said I like how minimalistic (ROM) Motorola is now and see myself buying more of their devices. Personally hate Samsung galaxy series. There is no need for a physical buttons on screen is the way to go.
Hope the moto x gets some good people working on Roms. I love the size of this phone and really want to stop jumping from phone to phone chasing that perfect combination. But my guess is the grass will always seems to be greener on the other side......nexus 5.

Elsnake, I never said that I don't need ROMs. I said that I would like Dev support, once some issues get worked out. But I also said that I'm OK if we stay with the level of mods we have now.

Still getting used to the smaller screen from my S4 GPe. Just got the moto x on Tuesday so gonna stick with it for a few weeks.
If I HAD to decide today I would go back to my S4. Which is why I committed to at least two weeks. We'll see.

The icons and fonts are much smaller than a s4 screen. Especially when you factor in the on screen buttons the actual usable screen is much less than than I was expecting. In fact I am not to sure if it is much bigger than my iPhone 5.

After soft bricking my GS4, I had to get a new phone while i work on that. I had been eyeing the Moto X and it was cheap. But now that i have been playing with it for a few days, its great. For me the Software is great, I love the voice commands, coming from an iphone i sorely missed siri and I feel that Moto X realy handles this better then the GS4.
As for hardware, I miss my GS4. The bigger screen was nice, and I loved the IR blaster.
If I could get the Moto X Rom on to the GS4 ( after I unbrick it) that would be ideal.
I've been looking at this phone but the fact is Nexus 5 will be a better device in terms of hardware, software and future updates.
Also I love the people here saying this is the best phone they've ever used. I think they copy paste that from their post on their prior phones.
I'm sure moto x is a great phone but its momentary. When you get your next phone that'll be the best one yet.
Prove me wrong, keep your moto x for 1 year and I'll be impressed. Doubt many of you in this forum will do that.

Coming from the Note 2 (and about every phone before that) I'm happy with my decision.
Something definitely feels off the first two days transitioning from the Note 2. Then I realized what it is: I'm not holding a mini-tablet anymore.

On AT&T and have the option to switch to Next and pick up a LG G2. I currently love my Moto X and it has been an amazing phone, perfect size and great battery life. Wondering if I should switch to a G2 now or wait for the next round of phones to be released in a few months.
Depends - if you love your Moto X you may have a hard time with the G2. Its UI takes a bit of getting used to when you come from a nearly stock build of Android. You're going to lose some of the cool functionality of the Moto X, but you'll also gain a better camera and some neat software tricks that LG added.
I was actually thinking of going from the G2 to the Moto X. But the G2 is the first phone I've had in years, and I've had a bunch, that I'm having trouble letting go of. The screen is fantastic and it's insanely fast.
The UI is not an issue, I prefer stock Android as I have usually always had Nexus Phones or phones that were unlocked. I had a Optimus G before the Moto X. The LGOG was running CarbonRom
The Moto X is the first phone that has tamed me from needing to ROM a phone to have it perfect. I have root and I am on 4.4 and it works great amazingly well with Xposed fixing the last few issues I have with stock android.
I would pickup the Nexus 5 but the battery is not as strong large as the one in the G2 and they are basically the same hardware with a slightly larger screen on the G2.
The Moto X does perform amazingly well and blow the socks off any phone I have owned in all aspects. It is a dual core still performs like none other. My LGOG would still get a bit hiccupy when running with it only using 2 cores.
If I am happy that much with my phone, the X, I wouldn't even thinking about switching it for the next 2 years. People jump immediately 'cuz they hate their phones, you are in the other hand.
The Moto X is a great phone, but the G2 is a beast. Dont forget you can run @houstonn PA Rom to get back to stock Android.

I use to run Houstonn's stuff on my LGOG and it was great! The biggest thing I believe I would miss would be the Active Notifications, and it isn't the same on an LCD screen, I have tried it on my Nexus 7

It's running beautifully on my phone. I got it last weekend, root and installed PA right out of the box. :victory:

What carrier are you on? The G2 has better camera, better battery, faster CPU, better GPU, and a larger screen. The G2 is pretty cheap too so I'd say go for it. There's plenty of AOSP Roms to flash for most variants.

Both LG G2 and Moto X cost the same here. Can i get the active notifications on LG G2 as well?? And how easy is it to root LG G2?
Want the best of both worlds? I've had both and currently have a droid maxx. Really does combine the best parts of both phones
Pretty significant difference in screen size, I think the G2 is the sweet spot, but my wife has a moto x and it is a killer little phone.

Droid Maxx is a Verizon exclusive. If he's in Germany it won't be available for him.

There's no Active Notifications but there is the tap to wake which is amazing. The rooting process is insanely easy. It's literally just a 1 click.
I'd recommend the G2 over the Moto X unless you prefer a device with less than a 5" screen.

I dont think im going to be very helpful but here goes. I own the G2 and my wife the moto X and strangly enough we would NOT trade each other. To put it bluntly they are both very great phones and performance wise youll "feel" about the same on each device. I have the bigger screen but i have bigger hands..hence my wife thinks my screen is too big. The X does feel a bit more "i could drop this...and not break it" and moto maker is pretty cool i have to say. However I have to say the native knock on is really nice and if you look around at some xposed modules you can get some pretty neat notification features that, while not exactly the same, give you a bit of the 'active notifications' feature the X has.
Stock wise the X will always get updates quicker than the G2...LG has a reputation for being slow on updates but did pretty well getting KitKat out this time around.
Non-Stock *Like i am* is a mixed bag. you will lose some of the lg features "like split view, the spiffy lockscreen, and some other LG features that admititdly are pretty nice. I found myself not using them that much after about 2 months and started missing that AOSP charm i was used to on my previous phones. Took the dive to Mahdi a couple weeks back, have loaded the following xposed modules as a must on top of Mahdi Rom "ACdisplay, gravity Box, Tinted Status Bar, Xtended NavBar" and wow i feel like i have everything i ACTUALLY need without the bulk.
But i still pick up my wifes X sometimes, stock, non rooted and go "hmm.. good job motorola, still feels good"

What about the battery life? I travel a lot in the Blackforest region and the lack of proper network signal means the battery drains pretty quickly.
My moto razr i used to last maximum 24 - 28 hours

I feel like i may be unfairly baised answering that one BUT i can say the G2 has a much bigger battery than the X but thats also to support a higher resolution/ bigger screen. THAT out of the way though when I am just idling i get AMAZING battery life on mine. A couple days ago after sleeping for 8 hours I awoke to find that i had lost 0% percent
My wife on the other hand it seems a mixed bag on the X. In the beggining she seemed to be getting great battery life but in the last month it seems to drain way to quickly. Im not sure if thats her doing or something on the device side *She made me promise not to touch her android experience on this device..she likes it as is*
I dont like making this comparison because when i told the wife this she glared at me.. Some people like to say "The iphone just works", and a majority of the time i can understand where they are coming from seeing all these different android devices. Ever since the X came out and I hear a die hard apple fan say that quote i stop them right there and say "Pick up a moto X and use it.. It just works..your arguement is now invalid".
The G2 is like having a Nexus 5 that was given a steroid treatment. Which is awesome but can get in the way sometimes as stock. Its why i went to AOSP after awhile. I realized i didnt need all that bulk after awhile

Go for Moto X, G2 is sh**! (owner of G2). Hangs all the time, screen problems, battery problems, most important - very very bad reception compared to all other phones(no fix for this)
i haven't had any of the problems your problem is rare and unusual my g2 almost never freezes

No hangs, no screen problems and great battery life for me...
G2 have faster and newer CPU and GPU, much better camera, bigger screen with higher resolution,
Rooting and installing recovery is very easy.
I do occasionally have problems with the radio but I'm using a Verizon wireless phone on T-Mobile but most of the problems you're experiencing I'm not

I'm living about 30 km away from you
Battery life, (normal use) is about 48 - 60 hours. Great phone, no problems with signal. Only thing is GPS signal is not the best. Sometimes takes a while for a sat-fix and is loosing signal while driving under a blue sky without a single cloud. My ole HTC and Nokia were better GPS wise.

I dont really use the GPS much, travel as in between VS and Furtwangen two times a day in the Bus or Bahn via Donauschingen

I really like the Screen size in X but G2 has a better battery and easy to root with custom roms...

Depends on the phone. My first G2 was perfect but took a while to lock GPS. The second one is perfect and locks GPS very quickly with no issues.
Both are very good phones but the advantage goes to the G2 for many reasons already discussed. You'll be very happy with it rooted or stock

If you like the screen on the Moto X, you'll be blown away once you see the G2. Only screen that's better is on the new G3

I switched my Nexus 4 for a LG G2 and couldn't be more disapointed. In the process of trading for a Nexus 5.

I'm talking about the G2. Dont't know the Moto X.
If GPS don't matter for you I'd definitely recommend the G2. Great performance, great battery life. And a lot of different custom ROMs to choose from (LG Stock based, gflex ported, gpro ported, G3 ported and lots of AOSP)
So through a whole of problems with the GS4, and a little stroke of luck, I happened upon a Moto X 2014. I must say, the phone is smooth as butter. But I still feel like something is missing. My battery isn't a great feet, my camera is poor at best. The phone however is the fastest and smoothest I've ever seen an android phone. It makes me melt. But after using the LG G2 which I had for 2 days before this....I miss it comparatively to this. Just as fast, much larger battery, beautiful screen. The Moto X doesn't even have a "power save" feature, and that would at lest be helpful. I almost want to wait for the Droid Turbo, but by then my 14 days would be up. I'm just not sure what to do. So my question to others.....Are you happy with this device? or would you switch, given the opportunity? If so, to what?
In happy, if the camera was better, I would be happier, but I'll hold out for L in hopes of improved camera performance. If not, I have another upgrade in April, maybe grab a turbo if it doesn't look as bad as it has in the leaked photos.
I'm think off going back the LG G2. The camera may be the breaking point for me.

I don't take many pictures, but the ones I have taken have been fine. On par with a majority of the smart phones I have owned except a few that were above average. Most of them are just "meh" and any difference is still not great so I just don't let it get to me. If pictures were priority I would still be on the Lumia 930 hands down, or maybe the iPhone 6 plus, but not most of the Android handsets available that's for sure.
Overall I love the phone though. It just a great phone to use and really when it comes down to it that is what matters. There are things that could use improvement (screen brightness, camera, battery life). But none of those factors are BAD, just not exceptional. I get through a day with ease and the screen is fine except in bright sunlight. The phone makes up for it with a great feel and ease of use. Its super fast and fluid, and little things like ActiveDisplay just make it all that much better of an experience. Of all the phones I have owned in the last year (a lot) it is the first one I feel content with and not pining for a new phone (which is rare for me). I am excited for Android L .
I love my Moto X. I too came from a Galaxy S4 running CyanogenMOD and this is so smooth without having to do any tweaking whatsoever. I've had this phone for 11 days and I already try to wave my hand over other people's phones and expect it to just turn on when I pick it up. These may be new features I can't live without.
Short answer....best phone I have ever owned
I came from the HTC One, HTC One M8, and LG G3. Also had the Nexus 5 as my daily driver before leaving it for LG G3. ... This phone trumps them all (still use m8 for low light photos)
The bad......nothing really. The camera and battery are decent enough.....just nothing to brag on.
As far as performance....nothing is close. So smooth...so fast.....so fluid.
The phone screen looks amazing and the stereo headphone jack is provides the best sound I have heard outside of the HTCOne.
No phone is perfect.....but this phone came very close
I think it's too top heavy and not comfortable to hold. Maybe cuz I got leather and have a subconscious fear of scratching it or something. Ultimately, its fate w/me is doomed due to no root on verizon.
I'll give up the X if nexus comes out on verizon.

This is the only downfall for me as well. I want gravitybox so bad. Just for the PIE controls so I can hide the nav bar. That extra screen real estate along with the one handed reachability would make this phone perfect for me.
I don't care about the camera quality, not a big deal for me. And the battery life is sufficient for me.

you'll be happy that L will bring this:
1. power saver built in
2. native code for camera stuff
3. project volt, which is supposed to help in battery
4. ...and much more
right now, there is nothing on the market that I want. so no, i would not switch. next year, maybe
after a week or so of using its okay. battery life sucks, i dont care about the camera, not sure why but many apps crash on it more than my nexus 5, and i can barely just barely see some hiccups/lag when navigating through the homescreen and some apps ill wait for android L tho

This phone is not top heavy, the center of its mass is right in the middle of the phone.
Just balance it on the index finger and you will see.
Best phone I used so far as well. But I never had any flagship devices before. Just a last years moto x, moto g, galaxy i9070... and an HTC one m8 as a phone for work, that's it.
But I saw many friends struggling with flagships while I was enjoying my moto x 2013.
I gave the HTC one m8 back to my boss and use the mx2013 now for my work and the mx2014 for private uses.
The mx2013 gave me an excellent experience, so I had no other choice than buying its successor.
BTW I hated the m8 even compared to the mx2013.
If Motorola doesn't **** it up, I'll buy their devices for a long time.

How do you enable ART and what does it change? I assume this is the ART vs dalvik thing?

It's in developer options. Don't enable it. Several users have reported an increase in force closes.
It's a bigger, faster, smoother moto x. If you liked the 2013 x but wanted something bigger, this will make you happy.
I like it, originally I let all the negative reviews get to me and even went back to my nexus 5 for a day. Then I realized how much nicer the moto x is. Its a great well rounded device. Unlocked bootloader with full warranty in tact, good camera, decent battery life, fast updates, near aosp and other great specs. Oh, and every time I'm on the phone I can smell wonderful leather lol.

Unlocking the boot loader on the pure edition does not void the warranty? I have heard it does not but not sure.

That's what I read from the Motorola feedback network administrator, he said they are "treating the pure edition like the 2013 Dev edition."
I love it, but I am interested in seeing what the Turbo and Nexus 6 bring to table, especially since it'll be on VZW. That being said, jumping to 5.2" from 4.7" was noticeable, can't really imagine carrying around 5.96"...
So...after 4 months with the Verizon version, I'm making what I call a "lateral"transfer to the LG G2. Specs are becoming moot. The G2 offers a lot, the battery being a big factor.
Did anyone else let go of there Moto X 2014?

I'll never let go of the Moto X, best phone ever made. I always sell my old devices to pay for my new ones, but that's not gonna happen this time around. This bad boy is going in the museum when I upgrade.
A friend just got the G3 as there was some issue getting the Moto X (corporate account). It's a great phone, but I wasn't a big fan of their software overlays. Plus cell radio quality is a big factor for me and the Moto X has better radio/antenna system. Camera on LG is noticeably better, but still not good enough if it is low light and something I really care about. Nice that it has removable battery and SD card, but have really never needed either.
And I do like the Moto X add ons... if they'd only get 'Attentive Display' working on Lollipop!
I'm finding that the battery isn't holding up long term.I need more. It's great for what it does, but it's a legitimate step back. It's rather disappointing.

Attentive display seems to be working quite well in the newest lollipop build (5.0.1) that was just released for Telus in Canada.

Its the best phone for who dont have an att branded device. I cant unlock it and dont have lollipop.. Next time i will pay more for a pure.
The moto x series is really a breakthrough, this phone is (the) smartphone, I spent an hour or two receiving and responding to messages and calls without touching it not to mention other genius features which are hardware dependent.
Cons: no sd card and no easily removable battery
Pro: everything else
A very nice phone
The battery life is really bad, and has gotten worst. Even with Lollipop, which made it better, I'm not happy. As much as I love the speed of the phone, the battery is killing me hard! The G2 will give me near similar speed with much better battery, not to mention greater storage. This may be on Swappa soon...
I went from a nexus 5 to a G3 to now the moto X² PE and won't give this up unless something crazy comes out or the X³ arrives.
I have not had any battery issues with this phone as I consistently get 4.5 hrs SOT with 12+ hours total. I will say that the camera on the G3 was much better, but the moto X isn't horrible. And the hands free/voice actions with this phone are second to none.
That's just my humble opinion though.
As someone on Verizon, this phone is BY FAR the best available. No bloatware other than AcDisplay and some nice Moto things that make the phone better. Coming from a GS3 and a Galaxy Nexus (switched after my GS3 cracked), this phone is a god when it comes to battery life. I consistently get three, if not four hours of SoT per day. This phone already has lollipop and had it before some Nexus devices got it, and some flagships still don't have it, let alone on Verizon. The only thing not so good is the camera, but it gets the job done fine as long as there's good lighting. If I had the choice (unlocked cell service), I would still choose the OnePlus One, but I didn't have a choice.

I'm on Verizon, and you must not have used a G3 or the Turbo at all. The LG skin is light (I come from Samsung) and the Turbo is the X beefed up.

The Turbo looks great on paper, but the actual device is only so-so. I spent a good deal of time with one and walked away unimpressed. The X has FAR better build quality, is as fast if not faster (no QHD screen to waste resources on) and was generally smoother. Sure the turbo has better battery life, but my X easily lasts through the day and then some so it's a non-issue. The G3 is ugly, the skin is still pretty bad, and it is underpowered for the screen it has. Aside from the N5, everything LG puts out is just meh. People need to stop looking at only specs, they don't matter nearly as much as they used to. That said, the X still provides the best user experience out of any phone on the market, and that is what's important.

My feelings exactly. I really, really didn't like how the Turbo was built and even though the G3 build in my opinion is sleek, it's nothing special compared to the X. I've never used either phone as a daily driver, so I may not be the best one to judge it, but the Moto X is blazing fast with "good enough" features that work for me as a user who just wants to get through the day being able to use features like Google Now, something I was never able to keep on with my previous phones. The experience of the X is perfect for an everyday user, like most people are, and in my opinion that's what matters most in a phone. Again, I may have bias as this is my only phone I have been using.

Well, from the beginning of time until now, numbers haven't lied. That's not up for debate. But with user experience..I have to install nova launcher on the X because stock is lacking. The G2 (which I'm going to) offers equal speed. A smaller os, better battery and excellent build all while being a year older. The X while being customizable is just not enough for a power user.

I never said numbers lie, but they aren't always representative of the actual experience that the phone provides. If numbers meant everything, than the iPhone would have the worst battery life and performance of any smartphone out there, but that couldn't be farther from the truth. The same applies to the X. While the Turbo has better numbers, the X has the better UX. I don't see how the X isn't enough for a power user, I'm the very definition of a power user and it is pretty much everything I can ask for in a smartphone, with storage being the sole exception. Who cares if you have to put Nova launcher on it? That has no bearing on the quality of the phone itself. At least it doesn't have a nasty UI like the G2 does, even Nova cant save it from LG's hideous software, not to mention the plastic fantastic build. But everybody is entitled to their own opinion. If you think the G2 will serve your needs better, than that's wonderful. For me, the X is where its at.

i personally like pure vanilla aosp and this both have almost same though moto has some modification i don't think it will impact badly on performance ( does it? )
i love N5's fast update smooth performance even with some hardware compromises
but on other has moto x have better SD801 , and GUP freq 578 (vs 450 on N5) { will gaming performance be better ? } which in theory make it batter performance so if any anyone here can tell it's really an upgrade or i won't feel anything better
finally i like amoled but read somewhere that amoled pannel on moto x is worst qauily that samsung can make (really ?!!) , othere thing about camera ppl says it's 13MP is not as good as 8MP of N5 !! ( is it right ? ) and moto don't have notification led & OIS ( while taking pictures only does it matter ? )

old generation phone vs new one. I really have no doubt which one to buy between 2 candidates.
maybe take a look to lg products or htc but don't make a step into the past.

I have and use both of those phones regularly and while the N5 is still a beast of a phone, the Moto X is easily the better of the two. The software mods that Motorola has done don't affect performance at all, and actually go a long way to making the Moto X what it is. Moto Display and Moto Voice are game changers. Gaming performance is great on both devices but slightly better on the Moto X. I can't say anything about lollipop because I don't like it at all and am keeping all my devices on KitKat indefinitely. If you get the X, which you should, make sure you buy the Pure Edition or at least one that's not branded by a carrier who doesn't allow bootloader unlocking. You need that unlockable bootloader in order to be able to root the phone.
