Yes

Yes FoxFi does still work. It does however get finicky and not wanna work sometimes for me. I even have to uninstall and reinstall sometimes before getting it but yes it does work. You must let foxfi install the VPN, have a pattern lock screen set, and also have "nolockscreen" typed for the hash tag or hash code, whatever its called. Even then like I said I still have problems sometimes but it's only since the latest Verizon update that I've had any issues at all. Thankfully though u can still get it working.

im on stock mje and have not had one problem with foxfi other than my hotspot closing out if there is no activity after a certain amount of time goes by. other than that it has worked flawlessly. I have the pro key as well along with some other add on that im not even sure of its purpose so I dont know if that makes a big difference.

The stock hotspot does the same thing.
I use Beans ROM which tethers fine without FoxFi (I have the paid version of FoxFi but don't even bother to install it anymore) or any other software but it does close after not using it for a while.

Suitable Tether App

hey all,
I recently got a nexus 7 and I want to tether my sweet, sweet verizon 3g to it with my xplay, but none of the apps I try work. Barnacle doesn't even show up in in my n7's wifi networks list, and the Google Play release of Wifi Tether for root shows up but my n7 never connects and the app inevitable encounters errors on my xplay. Anyone have good recommendations?

I have the AT&T Xperia Play version and not rooted. I use a free app called FoxFi to Bluetooth Tether (Bluetooth DUN) to my Nexus 7. On my Nexus 7, I have PDAnet Tablet app to catch the bluetooth tether. Works great and easy to setup!
Hope this helps

I ran into that exact problem with wifi tethering in foxfi, too. Still looking for a fix
From what I can tell, bluetooth works for a basic internet connection (web browsing, etc) , but you can't do anything that requires a "wifi" connection, like downloading apps or streaming from google play services like music. It's a blessing and a curse, because it doesn't provide a full networked experience, but it saves you from potentially running through your data quota on intensive tasks which, if you have a 2GB plan like me, can be handy

I'm grandfathered into a Verizon Unlimited data plan, Once I got rooted I downloaded Barnacle Tether ( for free ) and set my phone up as a WiFi hotspot. Tested it at school back in the day and people had no problem connecting to it, had an iphone 4 and an iphone 3GS connected at the same time.
Can't you just turn the phone into a WiFi hotspot from the settings?

Nope, no such feature, and the root free tether apps require you to buy a tethering plan.
...Barnacle Tether... Install it.

Yeah I agree with KindaUndisputed. I have that setting too and have used it before to let my friend download apps with his phone because he's got no internet.

Its not locked out it just tells you you have to pay for it. But after that ruling by the FCC maybe they will stop this, I don't know.

They did, FCC made Verizon pay 2.5 million. So now there's no extra charge unless you go over the amount of data you signed up for.

Probably a stupid question on XDA, but are you rooted and running custom roms on your S2s? I'm interested if anyone has tried this on stock firmware with one of thee non-root tethering apps. I would test myself but I can't remember the last time I had a phone with stock firmware.

Yep I used both the s2 and s3 sucessfully.....
There is also another topic explaining another method of replacing ur apn in the general subforum of the tmobile s3
As for the s2 there is threads for apns and then for user agents
Live throws a code stating that some items may not be available but playing and netflix green light
Updates you have to dl on ur pc then transfer it to ur xbox by disc, etc storage medium
I have also changed my dns servers but I can still use tmobiles dns and do both
I use to have a full live experience until the last 360 update and now something borked....nebody have ideas? Lol
So I should have no problem using my sensation as a hotspot to power my roku box to stream Netflix to my t.v. right? Thanks!!!

WiFi tether

All the methods I've tried either don't work or no longer are available. Are there any current methods that work? AT&T tells me it would cost me $50/mo and I'd lose my unlimited data plan because tethering somehow doesn't work on unlimited data plans "square peg in a round hole" they tell me. Of course they couldn't explain why it wouldnt work nor could they explain why the tether feature is nearly double my unlimted plan cost.

on stock u can replace their wifi verification file (TetheringProvision.apk) with a hacked one "root required" or u can put practically any compatible rom on your phone and they work great. i recommend option b personally. i tried goldeneye and never looked back.
I am rooted but I'm not comfy with SS yet which is why I havent flashed a ROM yet. I used to use barnicle but I think its no longer available. So my best met is to use a costom ROM?

ss wont break your phone as long as you dont touch your stock rom with it. i never had great success with the hacked provision file, it worked, but not great. i get ridiculous speed and stability on a rom. or u can get a saw and square that hole out to fit the peg.
I'm on a rooted, stock phone and use ES File Explorer to allow me to Wifi tether. Works perfectly for me.

This worked for my att s4
Dl the tether app here http://downloadandroidrom.com/file/GalaxyS4/SGH-i337/tether
Then dl root browser off the play store
After you dl the tether app open root browser and go to system /app
Then you will see a tether apk file
Press and rename the. Apk to. Bak.
Then go to your download folder via root browser and look for the tether app you dl.
Press copy and then go back to system/app and paste it.
Reboot
Start the tether app and enjoy..

I was able to get the other method to work. When the att message pops up all I have to do is hit the home button...guess it bypasses the "you can't do this" message.

Native Hotspot Working

Just wanted to put this out there since I haven't seen anyone talking about it yet.
I was working with a friends ATT Note 3. I rooted it for him and then began working on modding the native hotspot. When I went to make the smali edits I saw that they were already there. So I fired up the hotspot and it worked. I am assuming this is also true if you are completely stock unrooted but didn't check first.
So if you have not rooted yet please test your hotspot and let us know the results. If you are rooted then the hotspot is definitely open.

That is odd. Maybe his account is messed up. Because he swears he never paid for the hotspot. But the mod which makes the native hotspot work on Sprint devices is already included in the rooted system, again didn't verify the non rooted system. So not sure what is up.

Wifi hotspot should work out of the box if you have any mobile share plan. The only group of people who will need any type of third party mode will be those with the grandfathered unlimited. AT&T does not allow hotspot on the unlimited.

I use TWRP, but you could also install it using Clockwork. You will need to get the carrier-specific ROM for your version of the G2.
