Shield on twitch or capture - Shield General

Hi, I want to show to my friends all the games that i can play on my shield. Not steam games, only android games.
I bought an avermedia capture model lgp that works with all consoles with hdmi, ps3 with component especial cable because it has hdcp protection.
Nvidia shield has the same protection. I dont understand why if we can program on it and make roms and root the system... Anybody help me?
Please i want to capture or/and stream.
Thanks

I haven't tried it yet... but you there is an option in the developer options that is in regards to HDCP checking. You might be able to disable it there. (Of course you have to enable Developer Options first). There are also some other fun things in there, like forced 4xMSAA for OpenGL ES titles. Do be careful with what you change stuff though if you aren't used to or don't know what things are.

Thanks. I dont find the disable hdcp option. I have readed it and saw it in other mobiles but not in the shield. Are you sure it must be there? I have Development menĂº enabled.
Thanks

[Q] Nexus 10 as additional monitor?

I've seen a lot of threads about using your tablet as an extended desktop or second monitor, however most of these are achieved over wifi and therefore I imagine are quite laggy.
I'm not that bothered about having it wireless, as I'm going to have my tablet next to my laptop anyway, I'm looking for something that connects through the usb port or micro hdmi so I can extend my laptop desktop to my nexus to utilise the touch display for things like photoshop editing, without having the lag that comes with wifi.
Anyone know of any solutions to this?
Oh also the max supported display res by the laptop is 1920x1080.... does that mean the desktop will look rubbish on the nexus screen?
Cheers.
Anyone know if its possible?

Having it connect through usb is very unlikely. HDMI is impossible. Your best bet would be to use Splashtop or a similar wireless program. Splashtop is pretty damn close to real time (from what I've experienced). It also depends on the resolution you set it to stream. 720 might be better for what you're trying to do.

I agree with the gentleman above. Splashtop is extremely good at streaming a desktop. I have yet to try something like extended desktop with it but I can vouch that you can really even watch things such as netflix (not that you would for any reason, but things that require a good amount of bandwidth) without much trouble. I'm always impressed. Let me know if you're able to fix up an extended monitor situation with it.

I've had luck telling windows to "expand" even though there isn't an actual monitor. Then set the resolution of that "monitor" - connect through Splashtop - and switch to that monitor. I've had luck playing games, movies, and using desktop applications quite well using that method.

Yep, gonna necro a thread.
Anyone else had luck with this? I tried iDisplay and it continuosly crashed. I worked with support for weeks trying to get it resolved. Of course, they only answered me once every few days.
I think some of the problem might have something to do with the ridiculous resolution of our 10s.
Any other tried-and-true suggestions besides iDisplay? I used to use ScreenSlider, but that appears to be gone.

Bluetooth issue on GT-I9505

Hey guys, I have a little problem on my new GT-I9505. Bluetooth cannot connect whit my Pioneer sound car. A message about pin error is showed and link fails.
I noticed S4 send a serial key to be confirmed when trying to connect whit other devices like S3. This is a protection but i belive my Sound player can't understand this procedure.
Someone had same issue?
Any suggestions?

It's the same for whit Galaxy S and S3. Easy connection. But it is been hard on S4, since first time I turned it on.
I've read some reports about Bluetooth issues on Nexus 4 on 4.2.2, too.
Anyway, its weird

Xperia Z4 Tablet Remote Play + GCM10 mount = Fantastic!

Hey guys, just want to first say hi am a new registered user have always been impressed with how helpful this community is
Anyway, seeing the tablet is still fairly new and no threads have been created so far I just want to talk a little bit about my awesome experience with the remote play functionality of the Xperia Z4 tablet. I've had my tablet for a few weeks now bought mine from Yatango as soon as it came out (black standalone no keyboard). I bought mine mainly because I wanted to try an android tablet for once other than Ipads and plus I am a Sony fan with many of their items such as Bravia TV, HMZ T3W, Xperia phone series etc so this tablet was naturally the choice.
WIFI Remote play function was the the first thing I tested out as soon as I unboxed my tablet ( in fact was first thing I tried too with Xperia Z3 phone lol). Registering the device onto my PS4 was a breeze and mounting it onto the new GCM10 mount was just as easy. As soon as I power up the remote play app and connect it to my PS4 I was immediately impressed! The GCM10 mount was supposedly designed fo the Xperia Z3 series but because the Xperia Z4 tablet is so lightweight it doesn't fall back or off and still very comfortable to hold the controller. Display quality was fantastic, maybe just a little washed out because it's game streaming but that's only if you're being really picky. My home internet is extremely slow so I use my mobile phone 4G tethering as a hotspot for my ps4 and Xperia Z4 tablet to connect together while my controller is connected to the console rather than tablet to prevent lag bluetooth interference.
Anyway to sum up how well this worked I have finished the game named Bloodborne (Difficulty: NG++++) and am ploughing through Chalice dungeons without any problems. I was also able to play games such as Drive Club, Dark Souls 2, GTA5, Journey, Final Fantasy Realm Reborn, FFX and J-Star Victory Versus no problems. Now like I said though because my ps4 is only wirelessly connected to hotspot so the performance is not exactly optimal, my remote play setting streaming video quality is set to high but the frame rate quality I could only set to standard otherwise there will be noticeable lag. I'm sure somebody with ethernet connected console with great internet at home will certainly have no problems whatsoever setting everything to high.
Other than remote play, everything is good and I'm very happy with the purchase. I have just bought a keyboard seperately and because I'm not exactly a big man only 175cm in height so it's quite comfortable for me to use even for a long period. I've been playing around with Microsoft Office, Office Suite, editting PDFs etc and can fully see myself using this for University. One thing I do wish the tablet had was multi window tasking (small apps are good but not enough) similar to Samsung's, but I've heard rumours future android updates may bring such a function so am looking forward to it.

It will leave a little mark on the back of the tablet but no biggie (for me anyway):
EDIT: I'm aware some people may experience some troubles (most notably input lags with controller) when remote playing, hence I have included in the following some simple solutions (which worked for myself) that may improve the functionality . I claim no credit for these solutions as I also only found them on other forums:
I can't connect the DS4 controller to the Tablet via USB OTG cable.
try going to Settings => XPERIA Connectivity => USB Connectivity => Detect USB Device; it should now detect your connected USB devices. See how that goes. From what i gather the tablet is designed such a way not to auto connect possibly due to the waterproofing feature.
There are input lags due to the Bluetooth Interference.
This is a good method if you're playing at a close distance to your PS4. Create a New User with a new PSN account (i.ee. sign up to PSN with a new email), then register your XPERIA Z4 Tablet with this new account. The reason being for doing this is because it can bypass having to connect your controller to the tablet which as a result may cause input lag due to Bluetooth connectivity. Essentially what you've done here is your controller is still connected to the PS4 while you are remote playing. All you have to do is just hit the PS button on the controller and change back to your main account. By the way this is the method that I use since the PS4 is always close to me when i play. Now if you're at a distance then another solution may be available:
Have your controller connected to the XPERIA Z4 Tablet, download "Bluetooth Auto Connect" from UniqTec on Play store. Leave everything default, but while your connection to the Controller is active open Bluetooth Auto Connect - Hit "Connect Now" in the Advanced Options Submenu - And now the Lags should disappear. I found this on a forum quite a while back; sounds crazy and no idea which genius figured it out lol. Just a warning though I haven't tried this method yet so no idea if it really works.
Thanks for reading guys hope you find this helpful, :good:

Hey man! Uploaded some pictures for you on the post to demonstrate the sturdiness of the mount. It doesn't fall back due to the weight nor will it ever fall off with the surprisingly strong suction - It's definitely legit :good:
And to answer your comfortability question, I would say Yes. Comfortability in long season play does depend what you personally consider as "long season" and I would imagine everybody have different level of tolerance. For me the longest session so far I've played with the tablet mounted is approximate 5 hour straight with friends in an action RPG Bloodborne which requires a lot of moving around slashing enemies (like a hack and slash). Most of the pressure obviously would be around the pinky and ring fingers of course depending on the size of your hands and adjusting the mount just at the right angle to find the correct ergonomic position also helps. Admittingly after 5-6 hours long play your hands and forearm will feel a little tired but in no way will it give you a complete dead arm or hand. Plus the more you play the more you're use to it.
Thanks for the pictures!
5 hours it's a pretty long season for me, so no problem.
The mark on the back is permanent or can be cleaned?

I hope it's not permanant but I can't be sure. I'm pretty sure it can be cleaned but I don't know how to... to be honest the matte back is pretty hard to clean, It's not just this circular mark even finger print stain I can't get rid of. I've even tried using tissue dipped with alcohol to try cleaning it but still unsuccessful the mark is still there (though it did improve). The material of the GCM10 mount suction attached to the tablet is made of plastic, it is sticky when you first unbox taking off the protective layer but I doubt it's something that can damage the matte layer. I hope somebody will find a good solution to clean the back of the tablet in near future.

I thought about it but I couldn't really figure out how to film myself while playing on the tablet since I only have a mobile phone with no accessory to attach onto my head. Quite a few good videos does lie around on YouTube for example like this one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xr8OxKF_59I
I know this is only an Xperia Z2 tablet but trust me judging by his latency it's pretty much 1 to 1 with no lag so I can say for sure his internet is better than mine. Since the Xperia Z2 can do so well there should be no reason why the Xperia Z4 can't. Remember also that this is pre 2.50 patch so high quality resolution and high quality frame rate setting in the remote play app is not yet available.
Hello Garysan,
I've just bought the xperia z4 tablet, and i found it great too.
I have a question for you, can the dualshock 4 controller can be use with Android games as well? (coupled with the GCM10 mount also of course)
I don't have a ps4 but i think it could be more comfortable to play android games with the dualshock controller ( like FF IV or other RPG Games for instance) but I want to be sure before buying the whole package.
Thanks in advance to test is for me .
You can use DS4 with Xperia devices over BT as long as the android game supports it. Check at the game's feature list.

Hey Clem,
Though I've never used the DS4 for any mobile games before but i have seen my friend do so it is possible. There are 2 possible method from what I know;
First method is th simple method, which is what eeeasy have said if the android game/app itself is designed to support Bluetooth controller it should work. It should be a listed feature on the description but if you're not sure you can always contact the developers.
Now however if you want ALL games to work with controller, then what you would need is a key mapper app, which requires rooting and is also what my friend do on his Galaxy. The apk that he used is called Tincore and you can find it on the play store, but once again you need to root the XPERIA Z4 tablet first.
I will probably be interested in this at some point, since i can see more and more games utilising controller support with the release of new Apple TV.
Finally if you have some spare cash I would definitely suggest getting a PS4 later down the track because next year the console is going to be exploding with new games, especially if you're into Japanese RPGs etc. Well worth the investment.
Thanks,
Gary

Hey Ramon,
I that's awesome to know! I'm interested in what method you use to connect the DS4 to the tablet when you use moonlight streaming. Do you use the OTG USE cable or just via Bluetooth to tablet? Reason I'm asking is I heard there may be interference if you use BT to connect the DS4 straight to the tablet. Is that true?
Thanks,
Gary

Thanks for your answer, effectively it's what I saw online, but I have an interrogation, the fact to root your tablette isn't without risk? Did it not delete the manufacturer warranty? Or impact the OS future updates? I have never rooted any of my devices yet so I don't know a lot about this.
And about PS4 i know it's a very good console but im more a PC gamer with a very good rig, anyway thanks for the advice!
Hey Gary, sorry for the late reply... The DS4 connects directly to the tablet. It's a Sony feature. It connects via Bluetooth (I believe).

Anybody has checked to connect the Dualshock4 with a cable USB OTG to the Z4? because I try to connect my DS4 with my Usb otg cable -( this cable works with DS4 and Galaxy S4 and Lg G3) and don't works with the controller.
The curious is that this otg cable works if I connect a pendrive, mouse or keyboard to the Z4. But not the controller.
Can any test if can connect his DS4 to the Z4. I am beginning to think , that Sony block the DS4 via usb OTG cable, for operate only via Bluetooth with the xperia menu controller.
I want to connect via usb for not pair all the time with the ps4, and for the lag of bluetooth.
Sorry for my english. I am from Spain.
Hola Calibra3, saludos desde Zaragoza!!!
According to this answer from the xperia support forum, you can't use USB OTG to connect a dualshock 4. Only Bluetooth.

I got my shield a couple days ago. I'm not a gamer. I got it mostly for media consumption. I learned about kodi a few days before my shield came. I have to say it runs much better in the shield than it did on my windows laptop, it also ran better than it did on my phones. I love kodi now.. Haha it makes my shield so much more enjoyable. All the movies, the live streams of channels.. It's awesome.. I feel like I'm back in the 80s when people had those big satellite dishes and would get TV from all over the world.. Haha. The use to have a laptop plugged into the TV that I used for all media but the shield has replaced that. Really love the device.

I see a lot of praise for the streaming abilities of this device. But how is it at streaming those 35+ GB full bluray rips with HD audio? Neither the Roku3 nor the AfTV were able to handle the video (let alone the lack of HD audio support) without transcoding down quality. Assume end to end hardwiring for the scenario.

Well, 'be-all' means different things to different people, so YMMV.
I was looking for a way to consolidate my streaming media sources (HBO, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon) and have my movie collection accessible (Kodi) so that I didn't have dozens of movies cluttering up my shelf. If you're looking for the same sort of arrangement, you'll need some method to rip your collection to ISO (or another format) without the copy protection kicking in to prevent playback.
The one thing that the SATV lacks which would be great is a TOSLINK (optical audio out) so that I could connect it to a DAC for my semi-high-end audio system. Yes, I'm a bit of an audio snob and keep my two systems separate. But it's not a deal-killer and I can always either get a USB/DAC dongle for the Shield or cobble a Raspberry Pi2 and a TOSLINK daughter board to connect that to the NAS for my audio needs.
Anyway, feel free to PM me. In the meantime, you'll find some great information at these links here:

I never used Kodi BEFORE I got my Shield (2 weeks ago), but I've fallen pretty hard for it pretty quick. Obviously, as such, I have no past experience with Kodi to compare it against, but my experiences have by-and-large been quite positive.
The Aeon Nox skin is working very well for me. Arctic Zephyr is as well. I tried Bello, but things moved pretty slow/slugishly, so that ended pretty quickly... not sure if that's unique-to-Shield or not, though.
I hooked up an HDHomeRun Prime, and added the Add-On to view Live TV within Kodi. I feel that motion-blur is a lot worse with this add-on than it is with the native HDHomeRun View app for Shield. I think this might be a deinterlacing issue? Hopefully SiliconDust improves this when they update.
Movie playback within Kodi is exceptionally. Kodi 15.2 is currently properly decoding Dolby TrueHD internally and outputting the LPCM. DTS-HD-MA is hit-and-miss, but all reports indicate that they have that nailed down for the upcoming update to Jarvis 16.0 (which just moved from Alpha to Beta this week).
The Shield is very snappy, moving into and out of menus and into and out of apps. I'm liking it so much I already ordered a second, it should be waiting for me when I get home tonight.... I think it's a great little device.
Kodi on shield.
Every this runs as smooth as silk on the nvidia console. I have had mine since june from the USA. paid import tax the lot, But it was worth it. Updates every other week you dont get that on any other china box.
Beta Build with working DTS/DTS-MA/TRUE-HD Passthrough
For those waiting for HD Audio Passthrough, there is an experimental build here(NOT MY WORK.. ALL CREDIT TO AUTHOR):

Also looks like the senior devs at kodi are rejecting this change as android Home Theater is not their "Vision". I strongly encourage people to sign up and post your opinions to the kodi devs/admins and show your support for the dev working to bring this to us!
I have loaded this and while I am still testing, all appears to be working perfectly with makemkv library full of truehd and dts-ma

Thinking about getting a shield tv...

My concern is compatibility. Arent most android games setup to use touch controls? I dont want to spend the money only to have a hand full of games to play on the thing. Are there any mods to convert touch conrols to a controller input? Thanks to anyone that can educate me
There are quite a few games that work with controllers, not all but I've found a bunch. What Games are you looking at, someone could look and tell you if there compatible.
