[Q] Does LG G2 Front Touch Buttons have multi-tasking button? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
By default, multi-tasking on LG G2 works by holding the home button.
Actually, I love Nexus' buttons because I'm a sucker for multi-tasking and I hate pressing & holding/waiting.

I was planning on buying Nexus 5, after hating the multi-tasking on my current Samsung S3, but it seems LG G2 is a better choice in terms of battery, screen and also camera.
So my question is, can I put that multi-tasking button on LG G2? Holding & waiting is a deal breaker for me.

Custom rom?

this is not q and a section
but if u root u can probably ad a different button and remap it

You can customize your navigation buttons to some degree on the stock ROM, and I'm pretty sure Recent Apps is one of the buttons you can configure.
Though personally I like Halo))) for multi tasking a lot more. But you will need a custom ROM for that.

Nope. This phone is highly customized and I don't want to lose features.
Also I'm afraid of dealing any kind of invalidated warranty issues. I wouldn't use a custom rom for this phone, instead I'd buy Nexus 5 if that's the case.

Well the "new thread" page has a "if this is a Question" option, and I chose it. Why is it there otherwise?

That customization option of LG G2 is why I asked this question. At this youtu.be/YLS9T2oFsWY?t=25s YouTube Video I see that there's no multi-tasking touch button option. See the attachment #1 here please.
However, on the attachment #2, from this youtu.be/lKUUkGEs5hc?t=59s YouTube Video the guy seems to have multi-tasking button. He commented that he uses "GMD Auto Hide Soft Keys", but I don't know if that app made the multi-tasking button or it can be enabled without a 3rd party app.
I'm still thinking it can't be done without a custom rom. I'd like to know this as certain before buying a phone, so if anyone knows I'd be glad.

Root, install Xposed Framework and buy Xposed G2 premium features. You will then be able to use the Recents button.

Rooting would void the warranty as well, so that's not an option for him.
Unfortunately I don't have a stock ROM to go and test for you. I've got mine all set up the way I want and flashing back would mess up all of my custom notification sounds even with a nandroid backup.
GMD Auto Hide also requires root access, so I think you're boned either way. If you aren't willing to make the modifications to get your device working the way you'd like, then I don't think this is the phone for you. I hope you find one that has the default features you're looking for.

There is literally no other way than at least rooting and following my steps. I believe a clean flash will reset the root flag so his warranty will be alright (perhaps also selecting Unroot in SuperSU before clean flashing).

What you see circled in red below is the option button, not multi tasking unfortunately

I believe if you need to root a new model phone at the day one , you shouldn't buy it at all.
My rooting experience
Once I was using HTC Desire, its volume down button was stuck. It wasn't starting up, because volume down button makes it enter the boot menu. It was also rooted and wasn't able to unroot it in any way since it wasn't opening. Even the boot menu was not working because the volume down made the menu continuously select the next item.
Thank god the warranty service replaced the phone entirely. If they would have started it up, the warranty would be probably voided.
And I don't live in U.S., warranty services much more *****y around here. You cannot even return a product after you open the sealed box, even if you opened it in the store. It goes to technical service, gets approved for refunding, takes weeks. Less customer rights around here.
That's why I will never pay hundreds of $$$ to some phone I need to get into risk. Also I don't have time for it. I start rooting the phone, then customizing, then more options, more apps, other roms, it takes too much time. I prefer to use what I buy with a clear head. If it's not for me, I wouldn't buy it. So I'm here to understand if this phone is for me or not. This is how I feel. I believe many of you believe otherwise, but we are not all the same.

I disagree with your opinion, the great thing about Android is that if you can think it, you can do it.
But I understand what you are saying and it is your money and your choice. Ultimately, what makes you happy is the most important thing to consider when making a purchase, and it sounds like this feature is a deal breaker for you.

I'm not from the US either, so I am also subject to harsher warranties.
However, what you are requesting is not something ordinary, and definitely not something offered by other manufacturers (everyone uses a preset layout of buttons, the G2 is AFAIK the first phone with a customizable navigation bar out of the box). It is normal that you will have to modify the stock ROM for that, and this kind of customizing is the very heart of Android. If you take risks, you can get amazing results.

I use Apex launcher and I assign Swipe Up gesture to open the Recent Apps / Multi-tasking function (even without root)..

I disagree that what I want is not ordinary. LG G2 allows customizing the buttons. They could have easily let users run an app when tapping a custom button (there are apps to show multi-tasking window up) or let users execute a command from a list.
Allowing customization but presenting only a few options is just meaningless.
For example instead of Quick Notes button, or opening notification panel button there putting a search button might help some people, like HTC had in previous phones.
In new models HTC also presents multi-tasking touch button. Again, multi-tasking button is ordinary enough.
For example I could have liked my current Samsung S3 if it allowed me to open multi-tasking window by swiping the menu touch button. But Samsung doesn't present any customization in that area, so I never even searched anything about that on the internet. Most people I know and I prefer to tap Samsung's back button 3-4 times to return to home screen instead of pressing the physical button. Because it is faster to tap the back button, and my phone's home button really needs some pressure to work.
I was amazed when I saw LG offered customization for touch buttons, but disappointed right now because their customization offers only more or less 8 options.
The bottom buttons are the constant and most used user interaction point, I don't understand how manufacturers don't see this.

Hmm, I should try this. This sounds it may work for me. Thanks!

It can be done without a custom ROM by using G2 Xposed. That of course requires root, but who would want to not root? Rooting is amazing!

Yes. With root.
This is my phone, with stock LG ROM. Rooted and installed G2 Xposed (free version).
Fine if you do not want to root, you can try using LG's (dumb) feature called Slide Aside where you can use 3 fingers to hibernate apps and resume them, similar to recents. It's the dumbest feature I've seen from ANY phone maker, but it's there.

I use recent apps button frequently, so holding & waiting is not my first choice. I'm aware of that feature. I hate holding and waiting. My current Samsung S3 is like that too. You hold & wait for things like moving icons, which are not frequently used. I'm addicted to alt+tab on my desktop pc too. I use many apps simultaneously.

Android Softkey Buttons instead of Hardware Buttons on HD2

Hi Guys,
I think it is absolutaley essential to have Softkey Buttons for Android instead of breaking our Hardware Keys by obsessively using Android.
A nice approach can be seen by the Xda Dev Fireslave who integrated this in his Wphone 7 Theme, which looks quite nice (look at the two Phone Pics on the right ):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=662034
There is a need for this, because there are already Users who complain of breaking their Hardware Buttons by heavy use of the HD2.
Therefore another Developer made this program for the HD2:

I wonder why nearly all outcoming Android Devices from HTC have no hardware buttons anymore?! I think it is for practical use and not only because its a trend in the smartphone developement.
I hope to see a ROM or a Mod for Android in the future...would be very useful!
I am not going to comment or do anything in this Thread as it should be taken as a push for this issue...so if you support this or you get any news about this you can leave something here...

Completely agree, I miss this feature in android over the WinMo. For every single app i have to use h/w keys. Though I am not in favour of completely removing h/w keys as they have their own use from time to time. But the softkeys are must to make it a fully touch screen experience.
hey, what about modifying the keyboard, or notification bar similar to cm6.1?
im not programmer, but on a UI perspective those would be the only places that would be nonintrusive to the rest of the systems UI and would not reduce active screen size.
+1...I'm in for it also.
It's a very good idea!!!!!!!
Isn't especially the HD2 predestinated for this becoz of its huge gorgeous sreen?!
some solution for now ...
A great cause to start an app development! Thumbs up!!!
I have been looking for some "easy to switch app" application, without touching the hardware buttons on my HD2. I saw and experienced the Desire HD rom on the HD2, but still it is far from a final state I stick to the "Mdeejay-6.11.2010-Froyo_sense_v2.3_Clean-kernel-15" which runs like native on my HD2.
So, on the Desire HD Rom there is an easy to "switch between apps" possibility, by tapping on the taskbar, then you have a view of recent apps ...
Some more functions, easy accessible like the software buttons would be cool (for the HD2)!
I had a look on the Android market for "program switcher" and found "smart taskbar". It places a transparent arrow on the right (or left side) of the screen. This arrow is the access to the switcher, you have inside a Home button, Exit button, Recent apps ... All apps access ... or whatever you customize! Or you can customize the access not through the arrow, but the taskbar.
This tiny arrow places itself above nearly all apps. You are able to switch between apps, or show Home screen by only tapping to the arrow.
I found the User Interface inside the app a bit uncomfortable, but there is enough room for improvement (more finger friendly, may be Softkey buttons on bottom?!) ...
This app reduces dramatically the use of the hardware buttons!
A specialized app with Softkeys would be awesome
Cheers and have fun!
yeah thanx,
good app...it is really an enrichment for android and will answer our purpose too...
i think android softkeys are kind a challenge for the developers Let us furthermore hope that it will come true...

Gestures on the HD2 would blow the imagination of usability, i guess! Great idea "clio94"!
We already have some gesture controls, as the pinch to zoom, applied to the desktop, it shows all 7 screens. I can imagine that a gesture would show the Home screen or functions as the Back key! Something like Exposé in Mac OS X
Apple is one of the leading developers in the field of gesture control of interfaces, they have some patents in this field:
http://www.sefranet.net/apple-patents-multitouch-gestures/
... but there is for shure room for imagination and workaround Do not get discouraged developers!
I do not know how the Screen touch sensors of the HD2 are capable of recognition of more than 2 fingers?! Is it all a software driven possibility, can a simple app be installed and the HD2 (or nearly every other android touchscreen phone, that allready has pinch to zoom) would have multi-gesture controlls?
A shame I am not a developer of apps, with some knowledge on that I would initiate something ...
Best regards!
Softkey Project- Android!
Hello
I have been the last night dreaming about those ideas of a Softkey app for HTC HD2 (or Android in general).
This morning I threw some ideas in Photoshop. It is a way how it could look like.
The principles are based on the "smart taskbar" app i mentioned earlier.
Description:
-four soft keys (home, menu, back, search)
-they place themselves over the user interface of a running app
-transparency, position, size can be adjusted over the apps interface
If some of you are developers themselves, you can ad some ideas too?!
It seems like a not too complex code behind, at least those keys would be only shortcuts to the hardware buttons.
I have no knowledge of how to develop Android apps, but would support if someone pics up the Idea (I can provide him/her with graphics etc.).
P.S.Does anyone have some insights about gesture controlling (multi-touch with more than two fingers)?
Cheers
Maybe someone will try to port the buttons from archos 70

Its a great way to quickly press and toggle on/off your radios, BUT what i think would be FANTASTIC is that a long press or a hold on that same icon (so you're not wasting any more space)... Will launch the settings for that button.
Example, long press on:
1. Wi-Fi - takes you to WiFi setting
2. Bluetooth - takes you to Bluetooth settings
3. GPS - Maybe have this launch an application,
(i prefer GPS-Status, but I could see others wanting Google Maps)
4. Silent/Vibration - (see notes below)
or have it take you to settings/Sound/volume popup
or /setting/sound/vibrate popup
5. 4G - (see notes below)
or have it take you to Wireless/network settings
I understand cyanogenmod has a feature that allows you to select which widgets to display in this area. Great feature, because who really uses the silent button up top, that's what the volume rocker is for... And im sure 60-80% of us are not in a 4g area so that's a waste too.
I see no need for the Silent/Vibration in the pull down, we have a hardware rocker that does the same thing. So i say replace it with Brightness Auto on/off (with a long press going to settings/display)
Optional (i would like some feedback)
For most of us not is a 4g I would like 1 of three things
1. I love the tiny flashlight app/widget so it would be nice to pull down and turn flash light on/off https://market.android.com/details?id=com.devuni.flashlight (long press opening app?!?)
2. Open Phone, (log press open contacts)
3. DroCap (so you can take a screen shot.)
4. IDK what do you think????
So 1st off from a development point is this possible, The log press to other action and changing default action of slient/4G?!?!
And what do you thing about this request?!?!?
Thanks to the great delevorpers here and mkasick for his Ringer volume fix!!
That is a huge request lol. Not impossible but some major framework editing required. I don't have the time right this second but I'll look at trying to get one button to work just to see how hard it is

Even 3g toggl in place of 4g toggle would be a huge help to me =D i know it's not so hard to press the power key, but (half?) of the US doesn't have 4g lol
Lol, I guess it is a big request, I'm not a developer so I wasn't thinking what would be involved.
I was just throughing it out there.
...But I was pretty sure that if it could be done, it would be incorporated into most of the Roms here.

As someone who travels quite a bit, I can tell you that the vast majority of the country does not have 4g. Population-wise, 4g is near a lot of people (major cities/large population), but geographically it is almost non-existant.
As for the idea in this thread, if someone could get this to work it would open up a whole mess of new possibilities. I'd imagine if you could make the toggles open up the settings, you could also make them do a whole slew of other things, and maybe even replace the dock entirely for those of us who prefer things minimalistic. Not holding out any hope, but it would be really really cool.

Swipepad does pretty much what you are asking, only in a slightly different way. It's even a little better, I think, because the swipepad will appear even at times when you can't get the drop-down thing because you are inside an app. Anyway, it's a free app in the market that I use for a lot of the stuff you are wanting (basically it gives you 12 quick launch buttons that you can set to whatever you want and which appear when you swipe on an area of your choosing) --- try it out and see if it meets your needs:

I love this app! Key to it is say you on default top right. Don't slide down the edge and to the right it opens notifications. Put your finger right where the screen color ends and the black border starts anywhere that red line showes when you set it up. It vibrates then slide to the left

Concept: HD2.5

Hi XDA,
I just want to start of by saying that the HD2 is probably the best thing I ever bought. Still, after more than 2 years, it remains a highly functioning phone. I sometimes run Android (TBD Sensation XL) on it, and sometimes Windows Phone 7.5. (The latest version by Pdaimatejam is amazing, and 100% working, including multitouch and camera) Both amazing roms which run extremely well on our aging phone.
There is on thing, however, which bothers me. This might seem to many as a minor flaw, but to me, keeping a perfect design philosophy in mind, really is a dealbreaker sometimes. This is the fact that the illustrations on the buttons don't represent their true functions in both OS's. The other day I brought my damaged back cover back to life by giving it a brushed metal finish (http://blog.whitesites.com/Chrome-HTC-HD2-Battery-Cover-Tutorial__634103488469591250_blog.htm) Now this got me thinking, what if we could somehow modify the HD2 in order to make it feel like a new phone, which natively runs Android and/or Windows Phone. Together with the chrome back cover it would look awesome!
Now, there's already a tutorial for chroming the back cover. However, to modify the illustrations on the buttons would be more difficult. First and foremost, Android and Windows Phone bother require different buttons. Windows phone requires a power button, a camera button, a back button, a home/start button and a search button. While Android (looking at Sensation XL/Runnymede) requires a power button, a menu button, a search button, a home button and a back button. Both configurations, in my opinion, are optimized for their respective OS's. And for those who might not know, the HD2 has a call button, a home button, a windows start button, a back button and a power/call end button. I haven't really figured out how to actually modify the buttons themselves. Possibly, some sort of extra though stickers would do. These would maybe also allow to be removed, so the phone can be sold again. But, XDA, all difficulties aside, behold, the HD2.5:

Looks awesome, doesn't it?
The button configuration, in my opinion, makes sense for both OS's (WP and Android). Let's talk about them from right to left. The on the far right is obviously the power button. It's function is straightforward. The conscientious reader might notice that the original HD2 also has a call end icon on it. Well, it doesn't fulfill this function in both OS's so I removed it. The button next to the power button is the search button. Also, the function of it is self-explanatory. The original HD2 lacks a search button, but in my opinion WP and Android work well with one. In the middle there's the home button. In Android it would redirect the user to the home screen (duh), and in Windows Phone it would bring the user to the start menu. A reasonably representative icon for both right? To the left of the home button is the back button. Again, a necessity for both OS's and the function of which is pretty self-explanatory as well. In Windows Phone it serves a more powerful function in my opinion though And finally, to the far left, there's a peculiar icon. Let's zoom in to have a closer look:
I actually came up with this icon while brain-storming for an icon which means both 'camera' and 'menu/options'. Well, tadaa. While using Windows Phone it would represent a shutter, which would more accurately describe its function than 'camera' anyway. In Android it would have the menu/options function, which makes sense, as it also looks like a gear. Like it? And while only a mock-up, I think it's the best solution for the problem of button configuration. Oh, and the order of the buttons (which could have been any, obviously) is thought through. It's based on the Windows Phone order, with the less important ones (power and shutter/options) on the sides.
Here's a mock-up of it running Windows Phone:
And here's one of it running Android with sense 3.5 (Sensation XL):
They both look amazing right?
I hope you guys like this concept. AND, if anybody can figure out a way to get the icons on the buttons (as said before, maybe some sort of sticker) please let me know! And by the way, the actual function of the buttons in the OS is easily changeable. In Android it can easily be cooked in, and there are numerous apps in the marketplace for it. In WP, the extra settings app by Cotulla does the job.
We modified the HD2 so thoroughly that we might as well modify its name as well! HD2.5!
Thanks devs btw!
Looks really nice! for the buttons; Maybe we could rub the icons off with white spirits (dont know whether it would work) then use some transfers to put teh new icons on? or some stickers would do the job but I reckon transfers would be a more professional finish

I don't think we can rub it off; I assume the shapes are deeply engraved into the button strip. Since they conduct light? or is it just a finish ? And a sticker would block the light.
I did a random grind on mine. The picture doesnt show it too well but it looks awesome and with the Pdaimatejam (the best thing thats ever happened to the HD2) it's a whole new phone.
The HD2 has light pipes for the buttons.. so you could paint black over them then silkscreen the white icons, but you'd loose the ability to have light up buttons.
Hmm... I have a silkscreen department here at work, I might give that a try.
Surely the place for any stickers is in the gap between the buttons and the screen where it says HTC
Nice Idea though.
@theDante, last time I did silkscreen printing was at school, ink everywhere good luck.
whats the construction on the buttons, might it be easier to get replacements?
Hi guys, thanks for all the attention! I have also submitted this to the portal, to help it get more attention. Please do so as well! Wouldn't it be awesome if we could make this happen? I'm more than willing to modify mine btw, never going resell it anyway!
I don't like the back cover at all, but the buttons are really, really nice.
I hope you guys find a way to do it!

haven't needed to yet. There are plenty of tutorials around on xda, not sure how easy it would be to just replace buttons.
just sent a message to the supplier on Alibaba asking whether he could do a custom design on the keypads, I will post back when he answers me.
Maybe we could all chip in for a bulk order, dont know how much he will want but im willing to chip in for it.
Awesome, let me know!
FYI XBmod will release easy hardkey remapping in his next ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22215801&postcount=1328. Also in android there are many choices of softkey mods see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1413582.
I am not entirely sure I would want the camera button on the left. With Yuki's NODO rom I had many blank photos which were shot from in my pocket, although I think you can disable the camera-on function. It is the LHS and RHS buttons which are more likely to be accidentally pressed. A camera button is needed though for panorama shots.
I hate to throw any spanners but thought the above worth mentioning.

Yeah it's not ideal, it has happened to me once before as well. However, I like keeping it enabled as it does help to snap that perfect moment Thanks for both apps, those will come in helpful when we find a way to modify the buttons.

ICS improvements list

Hey guy so like many of you I am enjoying the awesomeness that is ICS. It seems like everyday we are finding new improvements not listed on general android websites. This is why I'm making this thread to compile the list of added improvements to our transformers. So as you guys find new features, throw them on the list so everyone can enjoy!

Why my TF no in kitchen!
Here's the official list. Asus may have added a few other things. And of course, there may be other smaller items left off of Google's list.

Here's the developer centric version, which echos much of the above link and additionally covers the SDK improvements:

The same happened to me when sleeping in dock. It shut of at the "dip" and never came on automatically. I started charging from the dock again when I turned it on.
Asus Weather Widget
I noticed the other day that if you have the Asus Weather widget on your home screen you can now make it bigger by holding your finger on it and dragging the border down. this will then give you the next 4 days forecasted weather underneath. I am pretty sure it didn't do this in HC.
Saw an interesting vid/fix for poor GPS/Wifi here

Anyone know where I might see the mythical birds/ satellite indicators. Never seen one in either Navigation or Maps.

That's one of the features of ICS, resizable widgets. The ICS launcher also supports scrolling for widgets. Features from custom launchers and ROMs that got added to the basic Android system.
As far as handy, fancy features go, have you tried the swipe to remove feature for notifications? Works just like stopping recent apps. It's nice to see feature consistency in Android.

I found a neat new setting... under "ASUS customized setting", you can reconfigure the Right Button and Middle Button actions on the keyboard dock trackpad or mouse (There is no Mid Button on trackpad). I immediately changed the right button to "Show Context Menu" from "Act as Back Key". I cant count the number of times I exited SpashTop from clicking the right button as I would normally do in Windows.
I don't know if this was part of honeycomb or new to ICS, but if you drag one icon on top of another it turns into a folder.

I saw that as well. The only problem I had with remapping the right click was that to show the context menu you still have to hold down the right click button same as you would the left click.
Also, when using rdp/vnc apps, ones they all registered the new right click as left click whereas before they registered them as normal right clicks in the windows environment being remoted to. It seems that these apps are programed to convert the "back" command to right-click.
Apart from that, it is a neat feature.
Anyone else notice the music control buttons on the lock screen? I had tried to get that working with an app before and failed, and gave up / got bored ;-)
I hope by the time I get my Transformer back it will be in working order and the ICS update is out for Australia I had to return it for repairs as the screen was moving inside the casing
I wonder how many new things I'll find on it over the ICS on my Galaxy S phone here's hoping for a lot of good things and hopefully things that wont break it. I don't think I could stand having it broken again only had it for probably 3 weeks

I just notice while watching Netflix while connected to TV via HDMI, the Tablet screen goes black, leaving just the remote display playing. I don't know if this is a new ics feature, but on honeycomb, netflix would leave both screens active.
Plus, while typing text, if you tap and hold over any text area, a blue selection arrow appears. If you drag this arrow around, a magnifier window appears so you can finely place the text marker exactly at the word or letter you want. Double tap a word to quickly select it.

You can add tons more apps out of the box. Apps available are now common to both multiview and Pen Window. You can now directly open Pen Window apps without using Air Command or having to draw on the screen. You just open the multiview panel from the right and tap an app (vs. dragging it). A box comes up allowing you to open it in traditional multiview mode or floating like Cascade view worked on the OG Note 10.1. Pretty cool.
Tapping the box with the "+" sign shown below opens an app in a floating window, the box below it opens it as a standard multiview window.

S Note Improvements

So far with S Note, I've noticed some features that I either didn't know existed before, or are new. Inserting an image there is now a "Take picture in drawn frame" option where you draw the frame for the picture, and the camera is loaded inside of the frame for you to take a picture of something. Quite useful I must say. Another, definitely new option is that for annotating. A new button at the bottom of S Note, with an "A" and a pen as the icon, allows you to zoom in or your notes and write on them with greater precision in a zoomed in box at the bottom of the screen. You can resize the box to a size that suits you.

*Lock Screen "Cards" Replace Lock Screen Widgets
Note: This exists on the Pro 12.2's, it doesn't exist on the 8.4 and 10.1 Pro's so it's highly doubtful we'll be getting it. So there's nothing to replace the now missing lock screen widgets
*Note 10.1 2014's Getting Hancom Office (all Samsung 4.4 tablets including the $199 Tab4 7 are getting it)
Samsung e-Meeting's Available
Available In Samsung App's. So the only thing we don't have from the Pro's officially is the new keyboard, M-UX, and Remote PC. The latter's available here ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2624986 )and can be loaded as a standard APK. Personally, with M-UX so barren of widgets and tiles, the loss of another resource hog of questionable value isn't really a loss; at least to me. I would like (without rooting) to have the new keyboard but such is life.

The new multi window bar is nicer, no more little tab it just swipes in from the right.
Although I cant get more then 2 tabs going with the mods ive installed.
Overall look is nicer and more modern. I cant discuss TW since I prefer Nova launcher....
Okay, I'm pretty curious about and need to know: did s note app update?
Plus, I'd love some screenshot, really. And please, can someone record a simple video? That would be GREAT. Thanks.
Multitouch issues?
Are the multitouch screen issues resolved, or at least lessened, by this firmware? I'm somewhat new to Android and may just wait for the OTA US update, but I do wonder. Would it be advised to update to another recent firmware that DOES fix the issue prior to updating to Kitkat? Or would Kitkat firmware totally just overwrite the previous update anyway? Thanks all.
Did it get the Pro 10.1's keyboard?
No, it seems like the same keyboard as previous.
Perhaps we can port that one over unofficially.... The arrow keys are nice.

Yes, this 'cheat' works. But what did you mean with 'softkey'? I don't have one... and the menu key is still a menu key. So, we still have to long press the home key for the taskmanager (also with this cheat). But first time I long press the home button (before the cheat) I got a info popup, which is talking about the menu key. This is for me another hint that this is not a final version. Also some system settings entries didn't work but crash and so on.

To that point the rom's build date is apparently 2-4-2014 there has got to be a showstopper bug in there somewhere that they are fighting with or samsung would have probably released this after fixing up the small things ppl are noticing... Yes it is possible to use the menue softkey to open up the task manager.
But you have to be rooted.
Use an root file explorer to navigate to /system/usr/keylayout/Generic.kl
Edit line 139 and change "MENU" to "APP_SWITCH"
Save the file and then reboot. now you have a recent apps softkey
I'm obviously new to Samsung tablets, only having Samsung smartphones in the past. But why is the SM-P600, a Wi-Fi tablet requiring regional roll outs? There is no carrier bloat to deal with. I can understand language and possibly keyboard differences, but really? I bought the WiFi version to avoid this type of roll out. I guess back to Nexus devices if I want direct updates...
