Moto G Worries - Moto G General

So reading about some things like buttons rattling, dead pixels has got me worried since i ordered the phone via amazon and i'm using hopshopgo to send it to singapore, which may caused some problems if the phone is defective because i dunno how am i gonna replace it (it will reach me around 30 december)
What about u guys? what are some problems that u are worrying about from buying the moto g? and how many people here are using such services to get the moto g to your country

My moto has ZERO problems.
8GB german version (amazon.de)

Mine is perfect too. 8GB, UK from Phones4U.

No problems here! There will always be faults on any device. You'll always hear about them more on XDA. Nobody is going to post "hey my device is fully working!" try not to worry.

My 8gb Moto G has 0 issues...I just ordered me a 16gb version last night as well.

You have to realise the majority of people will never come to this forum unless they have something to complain about. And a lot of those people obsess over the smallest thing, look for and ultimately find a fault.
As far as I am concerned the hardware is high quality, and any issues will be resolved with time through software updates and custom ROMs.

My 16GB version is perfect. Bought from Amazon UK.

My Moto G feels very well built and solid in my hand. I used a friends S4 for a few days before I got it and I prefer how the G feels in hand. But damn the S4's screen was beautiful.
About the button rattling, if I hold the phone up to my ear and shake it really hard I can hear a little wiggle, but I never would have noticed it if not for the thread here.

My Moto G is perfect!

Mine does have slight button rattle, but not enough to bother me. I have not noticed any other problems.

I have a 16gig single sim uk version and no problems at all.
I work in really dusty place and always have issues with dust getting in the screen but so far its all good.
Also if you have not already you should check out the videos in the reviews thread in this(general) section to see just how robust this model is.
Happy Flashing!!!

Why do you have a 16GB version? I ordered mine 2 weeks ago (amazon.de) and I'm still waiting because it's not available yet

Everyone has their own preference/requirements. A perfect device for one may not be perfect for all. Moto G has flappy buttons, poor battery stability (80% to 0% in a second) dreadful diagonal viewing angles, visible display mounts (bottom corners, extreme angle)
Most people focus here on the positives, but it doesn't mean the phone is perfect.

YOUR Moto G had flappy buttons, poor battery stability, dreadful viewing angles, and visible display mounts. The G I have to my left right now has none of those issues. Not all devices are made equal, keep in mind. You just got unlucky.

I've had 3 Moto G's, all had the same issues in different stages. The OP has his doubts, and all of the posts here are praising the phone, I'm just being honest.

note 2 vs one x

frnds which one is the best ?
galaxy note 2 vs. htc one x
and why? better
...why
the gn2 is way batter than the HOX... no argumentation needed
depends what you want,
ive just moved from a one x to the note 2 and for me it was a wise choice.
the battery on the one x was awful at best, it would never last the whole shift at work unless i had a mobile charger.
the ui on the one x is much more pretty than the note 2 (i still really dont like that touchwiz [email protected]) but touch wiz has more features and can be customised more.
the screens are imho nicer on the one x, (ducks) expecially when put side by side, but on thier own they both look really nice so dont make that a deal breaker.
build quality is very nice on the one x, the note 2 is plastic but fills solid so no worryies there.
if your a very light user that very rarely plays with the phone get the one x (dont even think about gaming or videos), it will last all day and some if you dont use it, but if you want to use the smartphone as intended get the note 2, i run audiobooks all day with mine and still walk in though my front door with over 60% battery life, the one x would be on its second or third charge at that point.
memory is the other deal breaker for me know along with removable batterys, the note 2 has both of these removable the one x is fixed (iphone like). After 6 months of useage nearly of the one x i would never ever EVER pick a phone that had non removable batterys and memory again.
the other deal breaker is you cannot root the one x without (maybe) voiding your warrenty - htc cannot make its mind up to void or not so they put a may* in the terms and conditions, result being if you have a minor fault with your phone thats been rooted they will change the mainboard every time even if its nothing to do with it and charge you for the priviledge.
these are the issues i came accross look in the htc one x area and you will see excatly what i mean.
you just need to decide if the phone is too large - i fine it a bit cumbersome but fine to use as a every day phone / media player.

Seriously...this will go no where. Everyone has his personal opinions and needs. You have websites designed to judge that.

I could understand one x+ but one x doesnt even come close. At least the one x+ has a larger battery and a higher clocked cpu. It should be note 2 vs optimus G or nexus 4.

Well, seeing as the Optimus G was released, i'd say in terms of performance, that is top dog (the S4 beating out Exynos... although no S pen or cool features like S apps, etc). But of course, both phones are extremely fast (and some people dislike LG phones due to lackluster support)

I will say this though SLCD2 > AMOLED! For daily viewing nothing tops SLCD2 at the moment however AMOLED has better blacks for videos and gaming, apart from the 5" devices coming soon SLCD3 et al.

Thanks for the pics, I have to say, the HOX has seriously large bezels (I used to bash on Samsung phones for that, but this latest generation fixed that problem).

Should I buy a Nexus 4?

Hey,
I have had my one x since release day, but now it is in a bad way.
The screen has become partially delaminated, allowing dirt into the screen and causing a section of the touch screen to not function. The back is also very scratched.
Assuming I can do the repair myself, the parts would cost around £115.
My question is, should I get a nexus 4 or would I be in any way downgrading?
I could do my best to disguise the problems (clean under screen and reseal) and I might get around £150 from a recycling company.
A few things to note are that I love stock android and the idea of getting updates almost instantly.
I also don't think I would need more than 16gb given the use of Google drive and 35gb of Dropbox.
I do however love my phones screen and the community for the One X.
Anyway, I would love to hear people's opinions and have discussions about this as choosing my phone is one of the most important decisions I have to make haha.

Inspite of its design shortcuts and glass back, the n4 is a good deal.
If your device is shot, I'd say get one.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I'm not sure whether I like the idea of a glass back. To be honest, whilst the plastic on my phone is battered the screen is still completely pristine.
Unless it is found to be super fragile, I would welcome the addition of more glass.
Does anyone know how the screen on the n4 compares to the one X?
It's on par with the X, it beats it in certain areas vice versa but One X probably has the better screen that's not saying the IPS on the N4 is bad as it's just as good.
However you lose a bit of screen estate due to the on screen buttons.

Yes most of the reviews state its not as good as all the other phones. But it's decent according to the reviews. Just check out the sample shots on various sites and see if you can live with the results.
One X camera isn't bad at all for a mobile device, the Nokia 920 and iphone 5 beat the HOX camera.

I think I have just two more questions. When will it stop receiving updates first? Does the nexus s or galaxy nexus still get updates first or do they have to wait?
Also, how easy it to to root and install kernels etc? The one was a hassle and I had to void my warranty.

Not sure about the first question as I've never had a Nexus device but I'm sure they are still getting updates.
Unlocking a Nexus device is the most simplest simple command and your done, so it should be a breeze installing roms and kernels and shouldn't affect warranty like the HOX does I believe as it's a developers phone end of the day.
I for one will be getting one to try out hopefully on release day if permitting. Getting a bit angry with the HOX battery life it can last me through the day but when I start using it dies quickly.

Good point. The battery will be much better on the N4 since it's a 28nm cpu.
Well honestly.. You seem to have a rugged lifestyle, or is real rough on your phones. I would suggest you get something more like the Casio commando phone.
I don't think the n4 would be good for kids in school, or anything that could possibly harm a glass bodied phone.
But as a backup, out going out phone, sure. Plus the price is right, and wouldn't hurt you too bad if you are stuck in a contract.

I honestly couldn't suggest it, if you do a lot of bike riding, or if it's you're main source of transportation.
You Europeans do a lot more bike riding than us lazy Americans though, I think the price of gas has a lot to do with it.
I remember when I bought my evo, I was floored when I found out that someone in the UK basically paid double what I did, after vat.
My sensation would be great for bike riding, since the gorilla glass screen curves inward to avoid scratches, and the battery cover is the whole phone case, just get a new one for 30 bucks when the old one gets scuffed up. Battery life is meh, though.

Hello all!
Question - As far as I understood - Menu Buttons are on-screen.
That means Menu Buttons are taking a lil' of the 4,7 inch screen?????, so that actually the usable screen without buttons is smthng like 4,6 or so?
Or rephrased:
Is the usable part of screen bigger in the case of the HOX than in Nexus 4?
I don't know what to do to be honest.... i could sell my hox for smthing like nearly 350 Euros, and hopefully i would get a Nexus 4 for it....
But is it really worth???
Pluses of the HOX in my opinion over the Nexus:
1. Sense
2. Screen + Camera
3. Beats Equalizer
4. HOX community
Now... I would change it for a Nexus 4 for the following reasons:
1. Updates directly from Google
2. Phone designed together with google, so it will be their hardware reference when google issues an android upgrade
3. Design (Glass-back)
4. 2gb of RAM and better processor
Now, to be honest I miss iOS in terms of buttery user interface, clean interface, no force-closes, etc.
I don't want to switch again to iOS, but it would be nice to find something alike in an android....
I had the best experience with the HOX for a sense ROM, and with i9100 a very fine experience with CM9.
I am searching for THE Android device.... Is Nexus it?
If not, then I would bet on the next flagship from HTC (not the HOX+, but the next one).
Samsung is totally out of the question due to it's cheap recycled-plastic design!

Kinda have to comment on this. I can GUARANTEE you that within a month or so the Nexus will have better community support, its 75% of the reason i got rid of my HOX and went back to my old Galaxy S. Granted the HOX community is much more established now, but nothing beats Nexus devices for community and devs and so on.

Nexus 4 Ghosting wtf

Sent from my Evo V 4G using xda app-developers app
The only time I've ever seen this is with my razr that has an oled display. A quick transition between whites and blacks would create that issue. In terms of lcd, it is a standard 60hz screen like most desktop monitors.
I don't think there are any ips panels that can support 120hz so this is probably as good as it gets. What you're noticing is probably visual lag of some sort.

Bah 4.2.2 does not fix that. Its a hardware issue, software can't remedy that. I also noticed that pure android on that phone lack some quality if life feature compared to cm10.1. Surprisingly enough... Oh well I'll wait for the next nexus device I guess.

You're right, ghosting on that panel is pretty bad. LG did a pretty bad job with it, overdrive+proper calibration would have made the screen noticeably better. Coming from an amoled panel (which have about 0.1ms response time) the difference is staggering.
A lot of people don't notice it, just like a lot of people don't notice the difference between colors in TN and IPS panels, 128kbps mp3 and CDs or 40 and 80 fps in games. It's a matter of being used AND sensitive to the better quality.
Franco is right when he says that 4.2.2 brought lots of improvements to fluidity, but ghosting hasn't really changed, it's due to the pixels' response time and that hasn't changed. You're wrong saying that software cannot fix it tho, because huge mitigation could come from a software lcd overdrive implementation, which is probably not going to happen anyway: it needs to be implemented at driver level, afaik nobody on linux has done it yet (just ATI and maybe nvidia on their latest windows drivers).
But hey, that's far from being a deal breaker, it's A PHONE. First of all, you get used to it; second, it doesn't really matter all that much.
16gb max, no sdcard and otg support can be a deal breaker. But LCD ghosting? Get outta here.

New phone and screen questions.

So I'm getting a new phone for Christmas and I'd prefer not to spend more than 400 dollarsish. With that in mind the main phones I'm looking at are the LG g flex 2 ($300), the LG g4 ($430), and the moto x pure ($400). With the LG g flex 2 I'm wary of the last gen camera as well as some people complaining about graininess on the p-oled display. It is oled which I love. The overheating isn't a problem for me since I very very rarely game. The g4 has what I've heard is an amazing display but from what I've seen it looks a little blueish and it isn't that accurate. Plus, it's ips but I've heard it's contrast is excellent. Now, the moto x pure. I love the looks and supposed feel of this phone but there are two things keeping me from this phone as well. While it's display is bright and accurate, I worry about contrast ratios which seem pretty average. The second thing is that from what I've heard most if not all tempered glass screen protectors don't fit properly and leave a halo. If anyone's had any experience with any of these three you advice is welcome. Other suggestions are welcome but please try to keep it at around $400 or less
Do you like LG software? The Moto X is stock android which for folks that prefer that makes LG skin undesirable. My Moto X pure runs so smooth with very little lag (not specifically NO lag but it's few and far between) and I love the screen. Came from a 2013 x and galaxy s6 (both amoled) and I don't miss the technology at all. It's nice to have peace of mind that burn in isn't a worry and the brightness is absurd on this device. That said, I'm a bit annoyed at moto display, as you can see the whole screen turn on (since it's not amoled).
Finally, the larger screen with smaller form factor of the Moto X is a huge plus to me. The screen to body ratio is best between comparable phones. The bezels are small, the curved back gives it a nice feel and it's still one handable despite being so large.
Edit: I'm not using any case or screen protector and must day there's something about this device. The screen doesn't pick up finger prints like other phones. I find myself needing to clean this one off far less than other phones even with no screen protector.

Temp glass screen protector is a non issue mine was applied perfectly. Honestly I think people just don't know how to apply it properly sometimes. Mine looks perfect you wouldn't even be able to tell its on. I have to agree with MKBHD that this moto x pure is the best phone in its price range.

I had the G4 and loved it. My vision isn't that great so as long as there's no screen burn in I can't tell one display from another. I loved being able to swap batteries and of course the sd card slot. I'm on Verizon so the locked bootloader and lack of development eventually drove me away. I also had touchscreen issues. Sometimes touches didn't register at all or they did incorrectly. And LG has by far the worst stock keyboard I've ever used. It would autocorrect words that were typed correctly to gibberish. But that's an easy fix to change the keyboard. Even so, it would often miss keystrokes so a good keyboard would still be off sometimes.
I've been using a MXP since they released and I love it. I honestly have no major complaints. I sorta wish it had a fully functional notification light but I have a Wear watch so that's really not needed. I installed a $5 eBay glass screen protector and it fits like a glove. I paid extra for the 64gb and sorta wish I'd have saved money and got the 16gb. The imminent Marshmallow update will allow you to format an sd card to be used as internal memory.

Had the g4 and its a beauty especially the camera but I'm a sucker for stock Android and this moto is excellent . Bright high resolution screen and stock plus a few extra moto apps that make stock even better, love motos notifications ... I'd take the pure over the g4 I have not regretted it one bit. And moto maker is awesome I got Ref bezels and black leather it looks phenomenal

I just recently switched from an LG G3 to this phone. No regrets so far!
The screen is fine, might be better than my G3. Performance difference is almost night and day! The G3 is one of the most laggiest I've had. Even the LG G2 beats it in that regard.
As for the camera, I rarely use it, but it seems like it's on par with the G3.
As for the user experience, I might hand it to the G3 (or I'm still adjusting?). I miss the double tap to wake/sleep, ability to customize nav bar icons, organize quick toggles etc.
I just feel that stock android is too much restricted now (I'll definitely give CM13 a try in the future).
There's a major annoyance/bug in the Moto X Pure - the notification/ringtone sounds are buggy. They always fail to play the notif/ringtone sound. What an annoyance. I always miss texts/FB messages, you name it.
Lastly for the battery, it's slightly better. I'm always getting 4-5hrs of SoT compared to my G3 (3-4hrs max only).

Can you give me a link to your protector?
Thanks everybody for your replies I think I might go for the X pure if anyone has any other suggestions in this price range I'm still open to suggestions also, is it worth it to spend the extra $50 for the 32 gb version? I have a micro SD card so media storage won't be on the phone storage primarily. many thanks
Might be depending the SD card you have. Android mm can use SD as internal so the 16 might be on if you've got a big card. I personally went with 64 and I have 128 GB card so I'm maxed out.
Here is the link to the protector I got

I've also tried the skinomi in the past but I like this brand better

Sweet I've got a 32gb SD card from Samsung's evo line so I think I might go with the 32gb option just to play it safe. Thanks a bunch
The LG G3 skin is ugly. The dialer is the ugliest thing I have ever had to look at. Go with the Moto.

Unfortunately it doesn't. It's still there. I may have to root just for this annoyance.

I was going to say MM fixed it for me, but I also seen your comment about root, I mean I'm rooted but why would rooting depend on if the notifications sound bug happens or not?

There's a flashable mod to remove the increasing notif/ringing sound. Hopefully that clears it.

Got a North American H915 V20, ask me anything

Hi all,
I am lucky enough to get a hold of a North American V20, H915 (Unlocked from local Carrier) locally through connections after seeing one on sale on ebay.
I also have a G5 as my daily driver prior to this and thought that it was the most underrated phone in 2016 (other than build quality). I have had every single mainstream phones out there since 2007, including the recently returned exploding Note 7
Ask if anything that you might have about it, and I will try my best to answer.
Cheers.

How's the battery life? I had a note 7 as well and now I'm checking this one out. I think I read it's a 3200m. I'm using a oneplus 3 and I'm honestly liking it. Haha

The first day was stellar, had a full charge when I start the day and ended with 46% by the end of the day. It runs extremely cool and seem to manage the battery much better than the Note 7 and G5. The G5 does well most of the time but it's inconsistent, it could be due to the better Doze as well.
I will monitor it over the next few days and report back.
How's the camera? It seems from media they use the dual lenses in a less effective manner than the iPhone. The wide angle looks a bit weird. Can you give some overall impressions of video and stills?

I too would like to know about the camera, as reviews have only been for the preproduction units. If you could, possibly upload a few of them. Thanks.

Glad to hear that. I had the G5. It was horrible. Main reason I got rid of it. I liked the camera and features though.

So. This.
How is the build quality? Sturdy? Slippery to hold? Awkwardly large?
How's the fluidity of the software? Is Nougat pretty awesome? LGs skin pretty minimal?
How's the fingerprint scanner? Fast? Accurate? Positioned well?
How slow is the camera in terms of opening?

Of the reasons I'm interested in buying the V20, the audio quality and loudness is tops. Appreciate if you can give some feedback on your experience so far, thanks!
Speaker power compared with iphone 7 plus if you can?
Hurry back! How's the Speaker sound, Camera quality, UI Performance, etc.?
How does the v20 sound with wireless headphones vs wired headphones (same, better, worse)? Also how is overall sound vs note 7?
Please tell us the screen on time you get after you cycle through the battery a few times.
