[Q] Screen lock during call - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Greetings,
I've got a question. Do You have the same problem when calling someone else?
When I hold my phone up to my ear the screen turns off, everything perfectly. But now I wonder if You have the same issue:
My screen won't turn back on when I take the phone away from my phone. This means After every call I've got to press the Home/Lock button to get back to the phonescreen.
I am used to stock android where the phone turns back on when You take away the phone from your ear. Is this normal for Galaxy devices?
Thanks in advance!

a little problem

I bought a blackstone a few months back. It works fine but just recently it has been doing something annoying. I press the top button to turn off the screen so i can put it in my pocket or belt holder. It just randomly turns on again. So i thought the belt holder was pressing the button, but i noticed at nite, it just randomly turns on sitting on my desk. I was like ok, I'll download S2U2, so that way if it turns on it wont accidentally call someone. Then i noticed that when it randomly turns on, the S2U2 screen appears at first then it goes straight to the home screen. It is driving me crazy and i have searched the forums for answers to no avail. Could someone help me please!?!
What Rom are you using? I used to have a similar problem, until I sent it back to HTC for a repair. It has not done it since I got it back. Obviously I have no idea if it was the repair or just re-flashing and re-hardSPLing the device.
How do i check the ROM? thanks

any body can help me please?

Power button not working (unlocked device, 2nd owner?)Update!

So the power button on my nexus one completely stopped working. I shut off the device and could not turn it back on. After popping battery in an out a few times I finally somehow, got it to turn on. Now i'm going to need to make sure it stays on all the time.
Now my question. To me this looks like a manufacturers hardware defect, so would the unlocked bootloader and me being the second owner of the device make any sort of difference here?
Any other way to turn the device on when its completely shut off?
Update #1: 7/30/10
Called HTC, then i got transferred to Nexus one department then back to HTC. Described my problem to everyone. They were nice to say they will get that taken care of. Told him i got the phone as a gift, updated my info, and I'm doing the swap option. He also said that any "physical" damage to the device might be charged, aka broken screen or w.e, regular wear and tear is fine. Mentioned nothing at all about software. I'm flashing back to stock either way. Will update as time goes
Same power button problem. Haven't checked into warranty with bootloader being unlocked, but if you plug up the usb cord, wait for the little led light to come on, take out the battery and put it back in as soon as the light goes off, then it will power the phone back on.
Ah i guess that's how i got lucky with turning it on then.
Hmm, i might give them a call tomorrow and see what they say.
Let us know what they say if you don't mind.
No worries with HTC. I was a second owner of my first N1. I traded my Iphone 3GS for it. Unlocked the bootloader first 10 minutes i had the thing. Few weeks later. I saw dust under the screen. Called up HTC. Gave them IMEI. Told them my girl got it for me for my birthday. They gave me an address.(original owners). I said nope and gave them mine. Went through the process. I had them put a hold on my credit card for $525. They sent a replacement phone next day. I packed mine up and sent it back. I had to do this twice because the replacement after 3 weeks started getting dust again and i could tell the power button wasnt really working well also.
Now im a second owner of another N1. I traded my tmobile N1 for a ATT N1. woot.
You can also root the phone and put trackball wake on it....also, when the phone is off completely, the trackball WILL boot it - tested this myself today.

Honestly when my phone was off I tried booting by pressing trackball and holding, just pressing and nothing. How did you do it? is there a specific process? I already have trackball wake selected thankfully before this even happened.
Another question is, how in the hell would i get into recovery or any of those functions now?

Light sensor

There is one on the G2, right?
The reason I ask is I'm pretty sure if there is, mine is broken, or something. Problem is, when talking on the phone, I am consistently either inadvertently putting it on hold, or muting the phone as it touches my face when held up to my ear.
Anyone else have similar problems?
yeaa there is i have had that happen on my tp2 so many times as well

It has a light sensor and proximity sensor. Mine works perfectly. Whenever I'm on a phone call the screen turns off every time. Next time try setting your phone down while you're on a call and placing your hand over the top portion of the phone. Screen should turn off completely when you get within a few inches of it.

Thanks, that's exactly what I needed to know. Mine does not. The screen does turn off once the time out interval passes, but until that time it stays on, and the hold/mute problem occurs.
Now let's see what I can get done warranty wise.
Thanks for the replies.....
When making a call, my screen only goes dark when the phone is in a vertical position and then you put your hand over the sensors, otherwise if its on a table or laying flat the screen stays on while making a call.

Really? Mine turns off no matter what position it is in. Flat on the table or vertical/horizontal. Maybe it helps to say I'm post-OTA with no root.

Im post OTA and rooted with CM6.1RC2.
Ill try my wifes phone thats post ota only when she gets home.
I did notice that since I put CM6.1 on my phone, the in call features work WAY better.
I have noticed this but only when using the speakerphone button...when I have tried to bring it to my cheek without getting out of speaker, i have put calls on hold and also hung up on them......
I got to see if coming from speaker to headset also has issues...
Just got off the phone with customer service. They are going to warranty it. They didn't say it was a known problem, but I was told by one rep that its not the first time they have seen this problem.

Sounds good. Hopefully the replacement doesn't have any problems. But it seems like they are starting to get their stuff together and sending out some good phones recently.
P.S.
Have you tried a factory reset to fix the prob?

I did. No go.
And on that note, and this might make me sound like an idiot, but since the reset, no matter what I do or how hard I try, Angry Birds refuses to install.
Weird, huh?

Is my touchscreen dieing?

I was running an older Paramid version of dunphp's ROM, and right before swtching the ROM my touch screen start to not function. I could not pull the ring up to unlock the screen. I rebooted multiple times. Cleared Dalvik and fixed permissions. It finally worked after attemptiing to unlock it for what seem like abother 500 times.
I was going to change over to his latest Deisre HD ROM anyway. So I did a Task 29, and cleaned and reinstalled everything from scratch. It worked perfectly for about 5 days. Now I am getting the same issue with my touch screen. It just seems to go out. Is this typically what happens when it's about to die?
Never mind. I Task29, and flashed a Windows Mobile ROM just to see, and yeah...it's dead...

You have semi-dead digitizer. But it is nothing you can't temporarily fix every time it happens. Just push red (end call) button really hard for a while and it will get fixed for a while. I recommend you using button savior and lock screen with it and unlock with any other button than red one, it should be permanently fixed then. Please hit the thanks button if I helped you.

I hit the thanks button as you gave me hope. I am currently using my old TouchPro 2 with an old NRG Titanium Rom on it for the time being, but will try this today. I’ll install “button savior”, but what am I supposed to do with the app? What settings do I run? I think you are totally right about this, as I noticed when I was unlocking my phone, using the green call button worked most often, but now that’s not even working.

Yes, I have exactly the same problem as you have. My phone was working flawlessly for like a year and a half, but last week all of a sudden the touchscreen sometimes didn't work and sometimes it did. So I tried literally everything, I was fixing my permisions all the time, wiping dalvik, task29, remaking parrtitions, even bought a new sd card. But few days ago I found a solution, by pushing red button really hard (because the digitizer is right behind it) and not using it after. The Button Savior app is a simple app that makes a very little transparent icon on your screen and when you tap it, the menu of buttons will come up (with the same buttons as your hard buttons on your device) so every time you will want to lock the device you will do it on your screen, and won't have to push the hard button and come through all the hassle of pushing the digitizer. I really hope I helped you, as this very same problem was driving my crazy for the past few days.

Aww, that's a shame. I really tought it would help. It doesn't work every time, maybe you can try it few more times. If it's not even then going to work, then maybe you should get your digitizer replaced.
Cheers

How long do you hold the red button? Also, I am pushing down really hard. I didn't know you could get the digitizer replaced...I wonder who would do that (no way would I send it to HTC and wait a month), and how much that costs...?
HTC sends phones back crazy quick. Atleast that's how it was for me. They actually sent it back the day they got it from what I remember. It did take a while though for the phone to arrive to HTC (this depend who and from where you send it though) If your phone still has warranty I seriously recommended you send it yo HTC. Just remember to flash it 100% stock before sending it.

Well believe it or not, after pressing the Red phone off button for an eternity and applying a ton of pressure, it's working. I am sure it won't be for long. I have a shortcut to lock the phone on the screen. So basically your saying I should stay away from hitting the Red phone off button, or else that will kill it again? What about the other hard buttons?
I am in the UAE at present, so it might be better for me to just order a digitizer and do the repair myself. I see there are a lot of YouTube videos on the subject.
Thanks everyone for your help!

Dead screen :'(

i received my Galaxy S4 I9505 a week ago and have been happily using it until today it turns on vibrates make notification sounds but the screen doesn't turn on i have taken the battery out and restarted it many times makes sounds and vibrates but still no picture and it doesnt have picture in recovery mode either.
i have never dropped the phone or scratched it its in perfect condition so i cannot see why it would stop working
i need help quick its like a child to me :crying:
pls no hate i am a noob
Screen seems to really be dead. If you've only had it for a week, you should be able to exchange it without any issue. I don't know where you live, but in Europe we have a 14 day exchange period covering us.

Try to take out the battery then put it back and press the volume down button without loose press also the power button.
Is anything on screen?
If no then service is the only way.
